Spygate - Donald Trumpin kampanjaan ja hallintoon kohdistunut vakoilutoiminta

Ja Trumpin hallinto on tehnyt sitä vuosittain viisinumeroiselle joukolle ihmisiä. Se on rutiinia.

On, mikäli sille on predikaatti. Amerikkalaisen kohdalla kun suoritetaan unmaskingia, sille on oltava perusteltu syy. Michael Flynnin tapauksessa unmaskingia suoritettiin ENNEN kuin hän puhui Venäjän suurlähettiläs Sergei Kisljakin kanssa. Miksi? Millä perusteella Flynnin perustuslailliset oikeudet asetettiin vaaraan?

Jotenkin kaikilla täällä unohtunut, se, että Flynn, mies joka oli johtanut amerikkalaista tiedustelupalvelua, hyvän harkinnan jälkeen tunnusti itse syyllisyytensä. FBI:llä oli täysin riittävät perusteet ihan puhtaasti vastavakoilutoimenpiteenä kuulla tulevaa presidentin turvallisuuspoliittista neuvonantajaa, joka varsin ilmeisesti ole valehdellut valitulle varapresidentille kontakteistaan, ja jonka valheista venäläiset olivat sekä tietoisia, ja luonnollisesti olisivat ne tarvittaessa pystyneet todistamaan. Lahjonnan ohella toinen henkilövakoilun perustyökaluista on kiristys.

Jos FBI:lla oli perusteltu syy kuulla Flynniä ja FBI:n toimet sekä aikeet olivat kaikin puolin hyväntahtoiset, miksi

1. FBI ei normaalin proseduurin mukaisesti ilmoittanut valkoisen talon väelle tulostaan etukäteen?
2. Flynnille ei kerrottu hänen olevan tutkinnan kohde, jolloin hän olisi voinut varautua tilanteeseen pyytämällä lakimiehensä paikalle?
3. Hänelle asetettiin ns. perjury trap?

Vain banaanitasavalloissa valtion viranomaiset eivät kerro aikeistaan haastatella valtionpäämiehen henkilöstöä ja eivät anna tutkinnan kohteena olevan henkilön tietää olevansa tutkinnan kohde. Yhdysvalloissa asiat ei toimi noin. Tai ainakaan ei pitäisi toimia.

Julki tulleista dokumenteista ilmenee selvästi, että tapausta työstäneet yrittivät saada Flynnin valehtelemaan saadakseen hänet syytteen alaiseksi tai että Trump antaisi hänelle potkut. Tämä ei ole millään tavalla kiistanalainen asia.

Jos näitä tukimuksia Trumpin aikana tehtäisiin jostain muusta kuin poliitisista syistä olisi kuvitellut jo selvitettävän ne ainoat vuodot, jotka vaikuttivat vaalitulokseen, ne Clintonia vastaan tehdyt juuri äänestyksen alla. Vaikka FBI:ssä oli menossa vastavakoilutukimukset Trumpin kamppanjaa kohtaan ja Venäjän tuesta sille, yleisö sai kuulla vain Clintonin sähköposteista. Lopulta vaallit voittikin se ehdokas, joka julkisesti pyysi Putinin apua, sai sen, ja onkin vaalien jälkeen suunilleen kaikessa toiminnassan noudattanut Putinin etua.

Jännä juttu muuten, että yksikään suurmedia ei ole missään vaiheessa vaatinut Assangen luovuttamista Yhdysvaltoihin, jotta hän todistaisi Venäjän dumpanneen sähköpostit Wikileaksille. Miksiköhän?

Clintonin sähköpostit olivat syystä iso keskustelunaihe. On Yhdysvaltain järjestelmän kannalta kestämätöntä, että Clinton piti ulkoministeriaikoinaan yksityistä, luvatonta serveriä kotonaan ja aktiivisesti tuhosi sähköpostejaan tajutessaan, että nyt käy käry. Vielä tähän päivään menneessä Clintonia vastaan ei olla nostettu edes syytettä asian tiimoilta. Ei oikeuden estämisestä, todisteiden tuhoamisesta, ei mistään. Miksi tämä ei huolestuta sinua? Justice for all vai justice for some?

Ja näin bai tö vei: Jenkkien suurmedia uutisoi isosti vain muutama päivä ennen vaaleja siitä, että Trump oli FBI:n tutkinnan kohde. Näytteen uutisoinnista tässä antaa New York Times.

Adam Schiff julkaisi Crowdstriken johtohahmon Shawn Henryn antaman lausunnon ja kun tätä juttua lueskelin niin ei ihmetytä yhtään että demokraatit halusivat tämän piilottaa.

CrowdStriken "varmat" todisteet venäläisten DNC:n serverille kohdistamasta hyökkäyksestä ovatkin aivan jotain muuta.

CrowdStrike President Shawn Henry's admission under oath,  in a recently declassified December 2017 interview before the House Intelligence Committee, raises new questions about whether Special Counsel Robert Mueller, intelligence officials and Democrats misled the public. The allegation that Russia stole Democratic Party emails from Hillary Clinton, John Podesta and others and then passed them to WikiLeaks helped trigger the FBI's probe into now debunked claims of a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia to steal the 2016 election. The CrowdStrike admissions were released just two months after the Justice Department retreated from its its other central claim that Russia meddled in the 2016 election when it dropped charges against Russian troll farms it said had been trying to get Trump elected.

Henry personally led the remediation and forensics analysis of the DNC server after being warned of a breach in late April 2016; his work was paid for by the DNC, which refused to turn over its server to the FBI. Asked for the date when alleged Russian hackers stole data from the DNC server, Henry testified that CrowdStrike did not in fact know if such a theft occurred at all: "We did not have concrete evidence that the data was exfiltrated [moved electronically] from the DNC, but we have indicators that it was exfiltrated," Henry said.

Henry reiterated his claim on multiple occasions:

- "There are times when we can see data exfiltrated, and we can say conclusively. But in this case it appears it was set up to be exfiltrated, but we just don't have the evidence that says it actually left."

- "There's not evidence that they were actually exfiltrated. There's circumstantial evidence but no evidence that they were actually exfiltrated."

- "There is circumstantial evidence that that data was exfiltrated off the network... We didn't have a sensor in place that saw data leave. We said that the data left based on the circumstantial evidence. That was the conclusion that we made."

- "Sir, I was just trying to be factually accurate, that we didn't see the data leave, but we believe it left, based on what we saw."

- Asked directly if he could "unequivocally say" whether "it was or was not exfiltrated out of DNC," Henry told the committee: "I can't say based on that."

Lisäksi Obaman apulaisoikeusministeri Sally Yates kertoi valan alla, että Obama nosti tuon puhelun esiin Valkoisessa talossa käydyssä keskustelussa 5. tammikuuta 2017. Yaetes ei osannut tuolloin sanoa, että miten Obama oli saanut tietää puhelusta.

Miten he sitten saivat kopion itselleen, jos kaikki kolme kaistaa on tukittu? Noh, neljättä kaistaa pitkin, joka vaati hieman luovempaa ajattelua ja toimintaa.

McCabe kuvaili valan alla annetussa lausunnossaan (katso ylempi linkki), että hankkivat kopion vastauksena ylempää tulleeseen määräykseen. Presidentillä on siis valta oikeusministerin kautta valtuuttaa maksimissaan vuoden pituinen elektroninen vakoilu ilman oikeuden päätöstä jos;

A) Sillä on tarkoitus hankkia tiedustelutietoa ulkomaan kansalaisesta
B) Sen kohteena on vain ulkomaisen tahon kommunikaatio tai omaisuus
C) Ei ole merkittävää todennäköisyyttä, että vakoilun kautta saadaan haltuun minkäänlaista Yhdysvaltain kansalaisen kommunikaatiota

Tässä vaiheessa tämä vyyhti alkaa muistuttaa Trumpin kampanjan tutkimista, jossa nimellisesti kohteena oli venäläiset, mutta todellinen kohde oli Donald Trump. Tässä tapauksessa elektronisen vakoilun kohteena oli nimellisesti Venäjän suurlähettiläs Sergei Kisljak, mutta todellinen kohde oli Michael Flynn. Ja minä selitän, miksi asia on näin.

Kisljakin kaikkea elektronista kommunikointia tarkkailtiin, mutta hän ei ottanut yhteyttä tulevan presidentin kansallisen turvallisuuden neuvonantajaan Michael Flynniin. Todennäköisesti näissä instituutioissa tiedetään tarkalleen, että mitkä ovat Kisljakin lempitäytteet kun hän tilaa pizzaa ja mitä reittiä hän yleensä ajaa työpaikalleen.

Obama ei tietenkään voinut soittaa Kisljakille ja pyytää tätä soittamaan Flynnille. Tottahan toki Kisljak tiesi varsin hyvin, että Obama vihasi Flynniä täydestä sydämestään ja tällainen puhelupyyntö olisi haissut kilometrien päähän. Tarvittiin katalyytti. Sellaisena toimi Obaman päätös karkoittaa 35 venäläisdiplomaattia kostona vaaleihin sekaantumisesta. Tämä oli riittävä tönäisy, jolla Kisljak saatiin ottamaan puhelin käteen ja soittamaan Flynnille. Eihän Venäjä tietenkään halunnut lähteä avoimeen diplomaattisten suhteiden katkaisemiseen Yhdysvaltojen kanssa juuri kun uusi presidentti on astumassa virkaan. Kisljakin oli pakko soittaa Flynnille ja keskustella asiasta säilyttääkseen maiden väliset diplomaattisuhteet.

Tässä vaiheessa moni varmasti kysyy, että miten ihmeessä Obama ja kumppanit sitten tiesivät Kisljakin puhuvan Flynnin kanssa, elleivät he suorittaneet unmaskingia? Yhtä hyvin hän olisi voinut keskustella lähes tulkoon kenen tahansa Yhdysvaltain kansalaisen kanssa. Syy on ilmeinen: koska heidän ei tarvinnut.

Flynn oli matkustanut raskaan vaalikamppailun jälkeen lomalle Dominikaaniseen Tasavaltaan ja vastasi Kisljakin puheluun siellä. Näin heidän ei tarvinnut suorittaa Flynnin unmaskingia. Heidän ei tarvinnut käyttää FISA-lupaa eikä kokeilla onneaan saadakseen tavallisen poliisin myöntämää salakuuntelulupaa. Ja tämän tiedon julkitulon pelossa Obama hikoilee kuin syöttösika ja näyttää siltä kuin olisi vanhentunut kahden vuosikymmenen edestä.

The US Treasury Department was regularly spying on Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, Paul Manafort Jr., senior staffers on the 2016 Trump campaign, members of the Trump family, and congressional lawmakers, according to The Tennessee Star's Neil W. McCabe.

The whistleblower said she only saw metadata, that is names and dates when the general's financial records were accessed. "I never saw what they saw."

By March 2016, the whistleblower said she and a colleague, who was detailed to Treasury from the intelligence community, became convinced that the surveillance of Flynn was not tied to legitimate criminal or national security concerns, but was straight-up political surveillance among other illegal activity occurring at Treasury.

"When I showed it to her, what she said, 'Oh, sh%t!' and I knew right then and there that I was right – this was some shady stuff," the whistleblower said.

"It wasn't just him," the whistleblower said. "They were targeting other U.S. citizens, as well." -The Tennessee Star

"Another thing they would do is take targeted names from a certain database – I cannot name, but you can guess – and they were going over to an unclassified database and they were running those names in the unclassified database," she added.

In May 2017, she filed another complaint with the Office of Special Counsel.

This surveillance program was run out of Treasury's Office of Intelligence Analysis, which was then under the leadership of S. Leslie Ireland. Ireland came to OIA in 2010 after a long tenure at the Central Intelligence Agency and a one-year stint as Obama's daily in-person intelligence briefer.

The whistleblower said Treasury should never have been part of the unmasking of Flynn, because its surveillance operation was off-the-books. That is to say, the Justice Department never gave the required approval to the Treasury program, and so there were no guidelines, approvals nor reports that would be associated with a DOJ-sanctioned domestic surveillance operation. -The Tennessee Star

Flynniä vakoiltiin siis usealla eri rintamalla ainakin vuoden 2015 lopusta lähtien, mutta silti hänestä ei irronnut mitään millä hänet oltaisiin voitu iskeä telkien taakse. FBI oli jo tammikuun alussa valmis sulkemaan Flynniä koskevan tutkinnan koska he eivät löytäneet mitään sellaista informaatiota, jolla tutkinta voitaisiin pitää käynnissä. In truth and in fact, however, FLYNN then and there knew that the following had occured:

a. On or about December 28, 2016, then-President Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13757 which was to take effect the following day. The executive order announced sanctions against Russia in response to that government's actions intended to interfere with the 2016 presidential election ("U.S. Sanctions")

Tuossa lausunnossa Obama selvästi tekee eron sanktioiden ja diplomaattien karkoittamisen välillä. Ne ovat toisiinsa sidoksissa olevia, mutta silti kaksi eri asiaa. FLYNN noted he was not aware of thethen - upcoming actions as he did not have access to television news in the Dominican Republic and his government BlackBerry was not working.

The interviewing agents asked FLYNN if he recalled any conversation with KISLYAK which the expulsions were discussed, where FLYNN might have encouraged KISLYAK not to escalate the situation, to keep the Russian response reciprocal, or not to engage in a " tit- for- tat. " FLYNN responded, " Not really. I don' t remember. It wasn ' t , ' Don' t do anything. " The U.S. Government' s response was a total surprise to FLYNN. FLYNN did not know about the Persona -Grata ( PNG ) action until it was in the media. KISLYAK and FLYNN were starting off a good footing and FLYNN was looking forward to the relationship. With regard to the scope of the Russians who were expelled, FLYNN said he did not understand it. FLYNN stated he could understand one PNG, but not thirty- five.

The interviewing agents asked FLYNN if he recalled any conversation with KISLYAK in which KISLYAK told him the Government of Russia had taken into account the incoming administration ' s position about the expulsions or where KISLYAK said the Government of Russia had responded, or chosen to modulate their response, in any way to the U.S. actions as a result of a request by the incoming administration. FLYNN stated it was possible that he talked to KISLYAK on the issue, but if he did, he did not remember doing so. FLYNN stated he was attempting to start a good relationship KISLYAK and move forward. FLYNN remembered making four to five calls that day about this issue, but that the Dominican Republic was a difficult place to make a call as he kept having connectivity issues. FLYNN reflected and stated he did not think he would have had a conversation with KISLYAK about the matter, as he did not know the expulsions were coming . How Russiagate Began With Obama's Iran Deal Domestic Spying Campaign

Barack Obama warned his successor against hiring Michael Flynn. It was Nov. 10, 2016, just two days after Donald Trump upset Hillary Clinton to become the 45th president of the United States. Trump told aide Hope Hicks that he was bewildered by the president's warning. Of all the important things Obama could have discussed with him, the outgoing commander in chief wanted to talk about Michael Flynn.

The question of why Obama was so focused on Flynn is especially revealing now. The Department of Justice recently filed to withdraw charges against the retired three-star general for making false statements to the FBI in a Jan. 24, 2017, interview regarding a phone call with a Russian diplomat. The circumstances surrounding the call and subsequent FBI interview have given rise to a vast conspiracy theory that was weaponized to imprison a decorated war hero and a strategic thinker whose battlefield innovations saved countless American lives. There is no evidence that Flynn "colluded" with Russia, and the evidence that Flynn did not make false statements to the FBI has been buried by the bureau, including current Director Christopher Wray.

So if the Obama administration wasn't alarmed by Flynn's nonexistent ties to Russia, why was he Obama's No. 1 target? Why were officials from the previous administration intercepting his phone calls with the Russian ambassador?

The answer is that Obama saw Flynn as a signal threat to his legacy, which was rooted in his July 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran—the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Flynn had said long before he signed on with the Trump campaign that it was a catastrophe to realign American interests with those of a terror state. And now that the candidate he'd advised was the new president-elect, Flynn was in a position to help undo the deal. To stop Flynn, the outgoing White House ran the same offense it used to sell the Iran deal—they smeared Flynn through the press as an agent of a foreign power, spied on him, and leaked classified intercepts of his conversations to reliable echo chamber allies.

In March 2017, after seeing evidence of the Obama administration's surveillance of Trump associates, Congressman Devin Nunes said it had nothing to do with Russia or the FBI's ongoing Russia investigation, or similar Russia probes conducted by congressional committees. Nunes' contention was difficult to make sense of at the time. Wasn't everything about Russia and whether or not there was, as Congressman Adam Schiff said, more than circumstantial evidence of collusion?

In fact, as Trump prepared to take office after his 2016 upset victory, the Obama White House was focused on the Middle East. "Russia collusion" was the narrative that Hillary Clinton operatives seeded in the media and fed to the FBI to obtain a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. After the election, the Obama team took it over and used it to hobble the incoming administration.

That Obama has publicly criticized the Justice Department's decision to withdraw its case against the retired general shows how personal the anti-Flynn campaign still is for the former president. In leaking his supposedly off-hand comments to Michael Isikoff, a journalist whose work was central in pushing the Trump-Russia collusion conspiracy theory, Obama was effectively taking credit for pushing the larger anti-Trump operation that grew out of the anti-Flynn campaign. While the Russia collusion story was a handy instrument for many to advance all manner of personal and political interests, for Obama the purpose of Russiagate was simple and direct: to protect the Iran deal, and secure his legacy.

Obama and his foreign policy team were hardly the only people in Washington who had their knives out for Michael Flynn. Nearly everyone did, especially the FBI. As former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon's spy service, and a career intelligence officer, Flynn knew how and where to find the documentary evidence of the FBI's illegal spying operation buried in the agency's classified files—and the FBI had reason to be terrified of the new president's anger.

The United States Intelligence Community (USIC) as a whole was against the former spy chief, who was promising to conduct a Beltway-wide audit that would force each of the agencies to justify their missions. Flynn told friends and colleagues he was going to make the entire senior intelligence service hand in their resignations and then detail why their work was vital to national security. Flynn knew the USIC well enough to know that thousands of higher-level bureaucrats wouldn't make the cut.

Flynn had enemies at the very top of the intelligence bureaucracy. In 2014, he'd been fired as DIA head. Under oath in February of that year, he told the truth to a Senate committee—ISIS was not, as the president had said, a "JV team." They were a serious threat to American citizens and interests and were getting stronger. Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence Michael Vickers then summoned Flynn to the Pentagon and told him he was done.

"Flynn's warnings that extremists were regrouping and on the rise were inconvenient to an administration that didn't want to hear any bad news," says former DIA analyst Oubai Shahbandar. "Flynn's prophetic warnings would play out exactly as he'd warned shortly after he was fired."

Flynn's firing appeared to be an end to one of the most remarkable careers in recent American intelligence history. He made his name during the Bush administration's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, where soldiers in the field desperately needed intelligence, often collected by other combat units. But there was a clog in the pipeline—the Beltway's intelligence bureaucracy, which had a stranglehold over the distribution of intelligence.

Flynn described the problem in a 2010 article titled "Fixing Intel: A Blueprint for Making Intelligence Relevant in Afghanistan," co-written with current Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger. "Moving up through levels of hierarchy," they wrote, "is normally a journey into greater degrees of cluelessness." Their solution was to cut Washington out of the process: Americans in uniform in Iraq and Afghanistan needed that information to accomplish their mission.

"What made Flynn revolutionary is that he got people out in the field," says Shahbandar, who served in Iraq under Flynn in 2007-08 and in Afghanistan in 2010-11. "It wasn't just enough to have intelligence, you needed to understand where it was coming from and what it meant. For instance, if you thought that insurgents were going to take over a village, the first people who would know what was going would be the villagers. So Flynn made sure we knew the environment, the culture, the people."

Influential senior officers like Gens. David Petraeus and Stanley McChrystal credited Flynn for collecting the intelligence that helped defeat al-Qaida in Iraq in 2007. In 2012, he was named DIA chief. The next year he secured access for a team of DIA analysts to scour through the documents that had been captured during the 2011 operation to kill Osama bin Laden.

"The bin Laden database was unorganized," says a former senior DIA official. "There had been very little work on it since it was first captured. The CIA had done machine word searches to identify immediate threats, but they didn't study it for future trends or strategic insight." Flynn arranged for a team from United States Central Command, based in Tampa, Florida, to come up to Washington. The subject of their investigation was a potentially sensitive one. "We were looking for ties between al-Qaida and Iran," says Michael Pregent, a former Army intelligence officer who was working on the bin Laden documents as a contractor. "We're arguing with everyone—NSA, whoever else—telling them what we wanted and they kept saying 'there's nothing there, we already went through it.' The CIA and others were looking for immediate threats. We said 'we're DIA, we're all-source analysts and we want everything to get a full picture.'"

Just as the CENTCOM team was preparing for their trip to Northern Virginia, they were shut down. "Everything was set," says Pregent. "we had our hotel reservations, a team of translators, and access to all of the drives at the National Media Exploitation Center. Then I get a call in the middle of one of the NCAA basketball tournament games from the guy who was running our team. He said that [CIA Director John] Brennan and [National Security Adviser Susan] Rice pulled the plug."

The administration was, it appears, clearing space for Obama to implement his big foreign policy idea—the Iran nuclear deal. Another aide, Ben Rhodes, had said in 2013 that the Iran Deal was the White House's key second-term initiative. Evidence that Tehran was coordinating with a terror group that had slaughtered thousands in Manhattan and at the Pentagon would make it harder to convince American lawmakers of the wisdom in legitimizing Iran's nuclear weapons program.

What was the information about al-Qaida's ties to Iran that Flynn wanted his CENTCOM team to get out? According to published news reports, the bin Laden database included "letters about Iran's role, influence, and acknowledgment of enabling al-Qaida operatives to pass through Iran as long as al-Qaida did its dirty work against the Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan." One of those letters showed that "Al-Qaeda was working on chemical and biological weapons in Iran."

After decades of anti-Iran campaigning, Republicans were expected to oppose Obama's deal, but didn't have the numbers to stop it in the Senate. What concerned the White House therefore was their own party. Senior Democrats on Capitol Hill were uneasy about the deal, as were large numbers of Jewish voters—more than half of whom identify as Democrats.

Jewish organizations offered two major objections to the deal: First, the outlines of Obama's nuclear deal suggested that it might legalize a bomb pointed at the Jewish state. Second, in striking an agreement with Iran, the White House might normalize relations with a regime that embodies anti-Semitism.

In return, Obama confronted Iran Deal skeptics in his own party with a hard choice—either support the deal, or you're out. There would be no room in the Democratic Party for principled disagreement over the keystone of Obama's foreign policy legacy. Opponents were portrayed in harsh, uncompromising terms: They had been bought off, or were warmongers, or Israel-firsters.

Chuck Grassley (R-IA) released the transcripts between then-incoming National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kisliak, which revealed that Flynn asked Russia to take "reciprocal" against sanctions levied by the Obama administration over interference in the 2016 US election.

"I ask Russia to do is to not, if anything, I know you have to have some sort of action, to only make it reciprocal; don't go any further than you have to because I don't want us to get into something that have to escalate tit-for-tat," Flynn told Kisyak.

Despite clear evidence to the contrary, Former FBI agent Peter Strzok used that conversation as a basis to continue his investigation into whether Flynn was a potential Russian agent, according to recently unsealed court documents. The agency used the call as leverage to try to get the retired general to admit to a violation of the Logan Act - an obscure old law nearly a quarter-century old which prohibits private citizens from interfering in diplomacy (which, as it turns out, is standard practice among members of transitioning administrations).

General Flynn, his legal team, the judge and the American people can now see with their own eyes – for the first time – that all of the innuendo about Lt. A three-judge panel on the US Court of Appeals in Washington, DC, ordered the federal judge overseeing the case against Michael Flynn to dismiss the prosecution on Wednesday, marking another big twist for the most high-profile former Donald Trump official to face criminal charges from special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.

In a 2-1 decision, the appeals court also overturned US District Judge Emmet Sullivan's decision to bring in a retired federal judge and veteran prosecutor to argue against the Justice Department's motion to dismiss Flynn's case. Sullivan had scheduled a July 16 hearing to weigh whether or not to toss out the case against President Donald Trump's former national security adviser.

The appeals court ruled that Sullivan does not have the authority to prolong Flynn's prosecution or examine the Justice Department's motivation for wanting to drop the case.

WASHINGTON — A former F.B.I. lawyer intends to plead guilty after he was charged with falsifying a document as part of a deal with prosecutors conducting their own criminal inquiry of the Russia investigation, according his lawyer and court documents made public on Friday.

The lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, 38, who was assigned to the Russia investigation, plans to admit that he altered an email from the C.I.A. that investigators relied on to seek renewed court permission in 2017 for a secret wiretap on the former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, who had at times provided information to the spy agency. Mr. Clinesmith's lawyer said he made a mistake while trying to clarify facts for a colleague.

President Trump immediately promoted the plea agreement as proof that the Russia investigation was illegitimate and politically motivated, opening a White House news conference by calling Mr. Clinesmith "corrupt" and the deal "just the beginning." Mr. Trump has long been blunt about viewing the investigation by the prosecutor examining the earlier inquiry, John H. Durham, as political payback whose fruits he would like to see revealed in the weeks before the election.

Attorney General William P. Barr has portrayed Mr. Durham's work as rectifying what he sees as injustices by officials who sought in 2016 to understand links between the Trump campaign and Russia's covert operation to interfere in the election.

Late on Thursday night, online document wizard @TechnoFog posted a series of "screen grabs" from an FBI 302 memorandum of an interview of an FBI Agent named William Barnett.  In the 302, Barnett is identified as the original Case Agent on the "Crossfire Razor" investigation, the foreign counterintelligence investigation of General Michael Flynn opened by the FBI under the "umbrella" of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation of the Trump Campaign.
