Kohtalona voi hyvin olla palautus takaisin, pimeille työ- tai seksibisnes markkinoille joutuminen. Sitten on jotenkin humaania auttaa näitä uppoamiskuntoisia veneitä missä tuhannet ihmiset lähetetään haukkumaan.  Ja niitä veneitä ei olisi, jos ei meripelastusta olisi. Tässä katastrofissa ei ole odotettavissa kuin kymmeniä tuhansia hukkuneita jos aikaa yli vuosien katsotaan. Huomaatteko miten aina uutisoidaan yhden veneen uppoamisesta tai korkeintaan yhden vuoden aikana tapahtuneista hukkumisista. Siinä unohtuu mittakaava. Entä jos hukkuneiden tai meren ylittähien määrä laskettaisikin siltä ajalta kun meripelastus on toiminut? Tämä aikahan se faktisesti on, jolloin tapahtumiin on  tietoisesti vaikutettu.

Rescuers saved 484 migrants from boats in the Mediterranean on Saturday and found the bodies of seven men who had died in the attempt to get to Europe, Italy's coast guard said.

The migrants were rescued from four separate rubber boats by the Italian coast guard and navy, an aid group and two private vessels, the coast guard said in a statement.

The coast guard gave no further details. Most sea-borne migrants to Italy are originally from Sub-Saharan Africa or Bangladesh, and pay Libya-based smugglers to organize their passage.

2017-05-14 The Local: Italy and Germany call for EU mission on Libyan border

The German and Italian interior ministers have called for an EU mission to be installed on the border between Libya and Niger to stem migrant crossings to Europe.

In a letter to the European Commission dated May 11th, which AFP obtained a copy of on Sunday, ministers Thomas de Maiziere and Marco Minniti said they "are convinced that we all must do more" to "prevent that hundreds of thousands of people once again risk their lives in Libya and on the Mediterranean Sea in the hands of smugglers."

It called for the setting up of "a EU Mission at the border between Libya and Niger as soon as possible."

To close the migrant route from Niger to Libya, the ministers are seeking "support for growth and development programmes in local communities" along the border.

Other measures include "technical and financial support" for Libyan authorities fighting illegal migration, particularly at the border with Niger.

Mafia controlled Italy migrant centre, say police

One of Italy's largest migrant centres has been in the hands of the mafia for more than a decade, police have said.

Police say the Arena clan made money by providing services at Isola di Capo Rizzuto in Italy's far south and siphoning off state funds.
The clan is alleged to have hidden behind a local Catholic charity which officially runs the centre.

The claims came to light on Monday, when officers arrested 68 people, including a local priest.

Another of those arrested was Leonardo Sacco, head of the Catholic Misericordia association that is supposed to control the Sant'Anna Cara immigrant centre. The centre holds 1,500 people at a time.

It is alleged the Arena clan, part of the powerful 'Ndrangheta crime syndicate, may have taken more than a third of the €100m ($109m/£85m) destined for the centre in the past 10 years.

The priest, named as Edoardo Scordio, had received €132,000 already this year for "spiritual services", an assistant prosecutor alleged.
Police in Catanzaro, a city in the southern Calabria region, said more than 500 agents were involved in the arrests of suspects "accused of mafia association, extortion, carrying illegal weapons, fraud, embezzlement to the detriment of the state, (and) theft".

The arrests come two years after L'Espresso magazine published an investigation, alleging funds were being stolen and managers were making money by starving the migrants who lived there.

A year earlier, it was alleged the number of migrants said to be living at the centre had been greatly over exaggerated, while in 2013 a health inspection found asylum seekers were being fed small portions of out-of-date food.

Police believe the clan, through Mr Sacco, was awarding contracts, including for food supplies, to other members of the 'Ndrangheta syndicate, as well as setting up its own associations.

According to Rosy Bindi, the head of parliament's anti-mafia commission, the centre had effectively been transformed into "a money printing operation for organised crime".

"This operation shows the ability of the mafia to take advantage of the weaknesses and fragility of our times with its predatory and parasitic approach," she added.

Eteläisessä Italiassa poliisi on iskenyt voimalla paikallisen 'Ndrangheta-mafian operaatioihin. Yli 500 poliisia osallistui operaatioon, jossa pidätettiin 68 ihmistä ja paljastettiin vastaanottokeskus, jolla mafia tienasi.

Olisi mielenkiintoista tietää mikä vaikutus mafian toiminnalla vastaanottokeskuksessa on ollut tavallisen italialaisen kannalta.

Kun YLE:n uutisen mukaan mafia on pyörittänyt tuota keskusta 10 vuotta, niin siellä ei ainakaan olla valitettu "paskasta riisistä, joka kelpaa vain naisille ja koirille".

Terveystarkastuksessa vuonna 2013 ilmeni, että turvapaikanhakijoille annettiin surkean pieniä annoksia vanhentunutta ruokaa.

Vuonna 2015 italialaislehti L'Espresso uutisoi, että vastaanottokeskuksen johto varastaa turvapaikanhakijoille tarkoitettuja rahoja ja tarjoaa esimerkiksi liian vähän ruokaa. Kun keskuksessa olisi tarvittu 500 ateriaa, niitä tehtiin vain 300. Loput turvapaikanhakijat jäivät nälkäisiksi.

Luultavasti mafia on myös pitänyt järjestyksen hallussaan, häiritsemästä hyvää rahastusta, eli ympäristö on pysynyt siistimpänä.

Italiassa nuivilla on rasitteenaan vajakit ja muut rikolliset, sekä kirkko ja avustusjärjestöt.
Ilmeisesti rikollisten ahneus on pitänyt liiketoimet nipussa näinkin pitkään, liikemiehistä siihen ei ole kuten Suomessa voimme nähdä.

Anti-Immigration Groups Block Migrant Rescue Ship

On Friday, members of the white nationalist groups Generazione Identitaria Italia and Identitäre Bewegung Österreich boarded a small boat and stationed themselves in front of the migrant rescue ship Aquarius, blocking her departure for a regular patrol off the coast of Libya.

SOS Mediterranee, the Aquarius' operator, says that the vessel operates a rescue mission aimed at stemming the growing number of migrant deaths at sea. She has participated in about 100 rescues so far, saving a total of about 18,000 people from the overloaded rafts and boats that human smugglers provide for the crossing. Once they are rescued, the migrants are taken to Catania and other Italian ports, where they can apply for EU asylum.

The "identitarian" activists see things differently: according to a translation of a recent statement, they claim that rescue vessels "take on illegal immigrants destined for our ethnic replacement," part of a "silent genocide against Europeans." Antifascist organizations contend that these "ethnic" allegations bear similarity to neo-Nazi beliefs.

The activists' ambitions extend beyond Saturday's brief protest, which ended peacefully when the Italian coast guard intervened. If they can gather more resources, their next action may take place at sea: "We are looking for a ship, a captain and crew who are willing to join with us in this battle of civilization," said Generazione Identitaria in a statement.

As for the Aquarius, her operator says that she headed out to sea without further incident (video below), and stands ready to perform her mission.

A total of around 20 migrants are feared to have died trying to cross the Mediterranean on Saturday, the United Nations refugee agency said, citing testimony from survivors arriving in Italy.

Seven men were found dead during Saturday's rescues, but survivors brought to Trapani in Sicily indicated a further 13 had been lost at sea, UNHCR spokeswoman Carlotta Sami said.

"When they saw the rescuers coming there was probably some agitation," Sami told Reuters. "Some of the people on board may have already been unwell, (the survivors) told us people were squashed, suffocated and then many ended up in the water."

Among the people reported missing are a child, several Nigerian women, men from the Ivory Coast and possibly other men from Bangladesh, Sami said.

Italian Police chief Franco Gabrielli said Monday that ships involved in the rescue of asylum seekers in the Mediterranean will not be allowed to dock in Sicily until after this month's G7 summit in Taormina. He said the move, which kicks on Monday and runs until May 28, "derives from the need to not put a burden on the police involved in summit security".

Gabrielli said the ships carrying rescued asylum seekers would be diverted to ports in other regions in this period. On Sunday Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti said the armed forces were making a big contribution.

"There are 7,000 armed-service officials who help the Carabinieri (police) and (State) police with anti-terrorism measures and around 3,000 will be deployed for the G7," she said. Pinotti added that "our defence forces are recognised the world over as among the world's best and we should be proud of them because there are great professionals who know how to relate to populations they must help and restore stability where there is conflict. "And it is a defence that is called to defend our country at a time when the security challenges are many".

Arena-klaania syytetään myös aseiden salakuljetuksesta, suojelurahojen kiristämisestä, varojen kavaltamisesta ja veronkierrosta. Calabrian 'Ndrangheta on eräs maailman mahtavimmista mafia-organisaatioista.

Italia on tällä hetkellä pakolaisten tärkein kohdemaa Euroopassa. Viime vuonna saapui noin 180.000 maahanmuuttajaa - tänä vuonna odotetaan saapuvan vielä enemmän. Italia saa kuluvan finanssikauden 2014-2020 aikana pelkästään EU:n turvapaikka- maahanmuutto- ja integraatiorahastolta yli 310 miljoonaa euroa. EU-komissio ilmoitti, että se ei tunne tätä tapausta ja se kehotti kääntymään Italian viranomaisten puoleen.

Green Party MP Went to Sea With 'Migrant Rescue' NGO Under Criticism for Helping People Smugglers

German Green Party leader in Hamburg Anna Gallina accompanied one of the several migrant rescue NGOs accused of helping or encouraging people smugglers by the European Union.

Ms. Gallina joined the crew of Sea-Eye, one of the German NGOs which operates in the Mediterranean looking for migrant boats, taking them onboard and bringing them to Europe, Die Welt reports.

The left wing politician took part in the NGO's sixth voyage off the coast of Libya, saying:"I am going to Libya in the next few weeks because I want to contribute to the salvation of the people." Gallina indicated she was not going just to observe the NGOs actions, but rather to participate in the rescue operations.

"My commitment is also explicitly seen as a solidarity document for local NGOs, which are massively discredited in Italy," she added.

Italian politicians and members of the public are describing the actions of the NGOs not as rescue operations but as "taxi services" for migrants looking to get to Europe. As a result, many of the non-profits have lost much of their former funding.

Italian prosecutor Carmelo Zuccaro has taken the issue even further suggesting many of the NGOs may actually be working with people smugglers. "We have evidence that there are direct contacts between certain NGOs and people traffickers in Libya," Zuccaro said.

"We do not yet know if and how we could use this evidence in court, but we are quite certain about what we say; telephone calls from Libya to certain NGOs, lamps that illuminate the route to these organisations' boats, boats that suddenly turn off their (locating) transponders, are ascertained facts," he added.

Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano said he agrees with the assessment of Mr. Zuccaro, saying: "If magistrates have usable and credible information (regarding Zuccaro's claim), the government will certainly not stand in the way."

The European Union border agency Frontex has said that pro-migrant organisations may be encouraging more people to make the voyage.

Sea-Eye spokesman Hans-Peter Buschheuer hit out at critics saying: "We are definitely not a taxi for refugees."

The NGO has been operating in the area since spring 2016 and maintains its ships in Malta. The group claims to have saved over 8,000 migrants from drowning in the Mediterranean.

"Sea Eye" -organisaatio aikoo lähteä aluksellaan ensi viikonloppuna Maltalta Libyan rannikon edustalle. Laivalla tulee olemaan mukana myös Gallina, ilmoitti "Sea Eye" maanantaina.

"On katastrofi, että joka vuosi Välimereen hukkuu tuhansia ihmisiä. Kauempaa on helppo delegoida ongelmat muiden hoidettavaksi, mutta paenneiden kannalta tämä on fataalia. Olen seuraavien viikkojen ajan liikkeellä Libyan edustalla, sillä haluan osallistua ihmisten pelastamiseen", ilmoitti viherpoliitikko.

Ihmissalakuljetusta koskevat tutkimukset

"Tarvitsemme turvallisia pakoreittejä ja meidän tulee taistella ennen kaikkea pakenemisen syitä vastaan. Niin kauan kun näin ei tapahdu ovat pelastustehtävät välttämättömiä. Minun osallistumiseni toimiin on nähtävä myös solidaarisuuden osoitukseksi paikalla toimiville ei-valtiollisille järjestöille (NGO), jotka Italia on saattanut erittäin huonoon valoon." Viranomaiset tutkivat tällä hetkellä Italiassa useita saksalaisia pakolaisavustajia ihmissalakuljetussyytteiden johdosta. Heidän joukossaan on myös "Sea Eyen" jäseniä. Heitä syytetään laittomien maahanmuuttajien kuljettamisesta Afrikasta Italiaan.

"Sea Eyellä" on käytössään kaksi muunneltua kalastuskutteria, joilla vapaaehtoiset ovat vuodesta 2016 lähtien vuorotellen lähteneet Libyan rannikolle ottaakseen afrikkalaisia maahanmuuttajia kumiveneistä kannelleen. Regensburgissa päämajaansa pitävä organisaatio on omien sanojensa mukaan pelastanut jo 5.000 pakolaista.

Karkeasti arvioiden Sea Eye on jo aiheuttanut Euroopalle 5 miljardin euron vahingot, jos lähtökohtana pitää valtiolle koituvia miljoonan euron keskimääräisiä elinkaarikustannuksia per matu.

Some 2,300 people were picked up Thursday in the central Mediterranean Sea, according to the Italian coastguard, adding to the rescue tally from the world's busiest and most dangerous sea migration route.

The migrants were travelling on 12 dinghies and 10 small vessels, meaning that each had on average more than 100 passengers. They were intercepted by the Italian coastguard, the EU naval mission Eunavfor Sophia and by non-governmental organizations.

The Local Libya on Thursday asked Italy to arm the patrol boats it uses in the fight against illegal immigration across the Mediterranean from North Africa to Europe.

Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti this week handed over to the Libyan coastguard four patrol boats repaired in Italy as part of a cooperation deal against people traffickers.

Another six patrol boats are to follow soon after the training of their Libyan crews, he said.

"These boats are not fitted with arms. We can't use them for patrols when the traffickers are increasingly armed," Abdullah Tomia, a senior naval officer in charge of cooperation with Italy, told a news conference in Tripoli.

Medical Charity Slams "Hate Campaign" Against Orgs Bringing Migrants To Europe From Mediterranean

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has complained that there is a "hate campaign" being directed against Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) rescuing migrants from the Mediterranean by Italy and others.

The Director General of MSF in Italy, Gabriele Eminente commented on the current wave of negative publicity toward the NGOs. He also mentioned the actions of the hipster right Identitarian youth Movement who blocked one rescue ship, the "Aquarius" from leaving port late last week Salzburger Nachrichten reports.

"Our ship has only been able to leave the Libyan coast after the deployment of the Italian coast guard," Eminente said at a meeting of the Immigration Commission at the Italian Parliament in Rome.

Eminente also railed against the various reports in which Italian prosecutors have accused various NGOs of collaborating with people smugglers in order to provide what has been described by some as a "taxi service" from North Africa to Europe.

According to Eminente,  the allegations of collaboration were, "unacceptable, false and ridiculous," and he said that as a result the reputations of the NGOs working in the Mediterranean had been severely damaged. Many of the organisations are said to have lost large amounts of cash over the past several months due to dwindling donations.

The Italian MSF chief touted the organisations work in the Mediterranean saying that their efforts had led to the rescue of around 60,000 individuals since April of 2015.

MSF spokesman Marco Bertotto argued against stopping the flow of mass migration saying, "the containment of refugee flows can be reasonable in the eyes of the public, but from a humanitarian point of view, the impact would be devastating."

Bertotto argued for the creation of a "humanitarian corridor" to allow migrants from Africa safe passage into Europe.

The Italian government recently commissioned a report from the Senate's Defence Committee which argued for stricter rules to be placed on NGOs based in Italy and was firmly against the idea of a private "humanitarian corridor."

There are around ten different organisations that carry out rescue operations in the Mediterranean, many of which are based in Germany. While MSF is the largest and most well-known, they have also received their fair share of criticism.

Aside from Italian prosecutors, the European Union border agency Frontex has also slammed MSF and others, saying that their actions only serve to encourage people smugglers and migrants.

"We must avoid supporting the business of criminal networks and traffickers in Libya through European vessels picking up migrants ever closer to the Libyan coast," said the Frontex director, adding, "This leads traffickers to force even more migrants onto unseaworthy boats with insufficient water and fuel than in previous years."

A migrant stabbed a group of Italian police officers with a knife in Milan.

A migrant from North Africa stabbed a group of Italian police officers with a knife in Milan and injured two people, local media reported.

The incident took place late on Thursday at the central railway station, La Repubblica newspaper reported on Thursday.

During a routine check of documents, the migrant snatched the knife and attacked the law enforcement officers, injuring a police officer and a serviceman, the media outlet said.

The injured men were taken to a hospital, while the attacker was detained. According to the publication, the migrant was previously held accountable for drugs related activities.

Earlier in May, Milanese police conducted a large-scale operation at the railway station to check migrants' documents and detained about 50 people.

Some 2,300 people were picked up Thursday in the central Mediterranean Sea, according to the Italian coastguard, adding to the rescue tally from the world's busiest and most dangerous sea migration route.

The migrants were travelling on 12 dinghies and 10 small vessels, meaning that each had on average more than 100 passengers. They were intercepted by the Italian coastguard, the EU naval mission Eunavfor Sophia and by non-governmental organizations.

There's no let-up in the migrant influx to European shores.

A reported 5,000 were rescued on Thursday and Friday, during multiple operations in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Italian and Libyan Coast Guards coordinated the missions, which took place off the coast of the African nation. One lifeless body was also found.

It comes days after the Italian Senate Defence Committee recommended stricter monitoring of NGOs and other humanitarian organisations operating in the Med.

The parliamentary commission also proposed that Malta and Tunisia, which lie geographically closer to Libya, should do more to help combat the huge numbers of migrants using the country as a launchpad for reaching Europe.

True, the whole operation is well coordinated between the Italian coast guard and NGOs; still, the refugees are running a substantial risk. Since the NGOs constitute a vital part of the journey to Europe, not to say that they are indispensable to the human trafficking across the Mediterranean, they are entirely responsible for the casualties, for without their readiness to collect people from make-shift rafts of which Africans are well aware, there would be no human traffic; therefore those in charge of these organisations should be held accountable for no less a crime than manslaughter.

The real intention of the people behind the NGOs is not clear. Their motive can be money, and we would not be surprised if it turned out to be so. They may also be politically driven ...

The NGOs, seemingly occupying high moral ground, dump them literally onto Italian soil with a "clear conscience" of having done good. Only 2.65 percent of those migrants who arrived in Italy were granted asylum as genuine refugees, according to the United Nations.

The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) said 181,436 migrants arrived in Italy last year, most of them crossing the Mediterranean from north Africa in flimsy boats.

UNHCR said only 4,808 were granted asylum in Italy and 40% of the arrivals were found to be in need of international protection.

At least 34 migrants, mostly toddlers, drown off Libya: rescuers

At least 34 migrants, most of them toddlers, drowned on Wednesday, as coastguard boats and other vessels tried to save hundreds of others packed into boats off the coast of Libya, rescuers said.

One of a group of boats listed suddenly, sending about 200 people tumbling into the Mediterranean, Italian Coast Guard commander Cosimo Nicastro told Reuters.

"At least 20 dead bodies were spotted in the water," he said. Rescue group MOAS said it had already recovered 34 bodies. "Most are toddlers," the group's co-founder Chris Catrambone said on Twitter.

The coast guard called in more ships to help with the rescue, saying about 1,700 people were packed into about 15 vessels.

More than 1,300 people have died this year on the world's most dangerous crossing for migrants fleeing poverty and war across Africa and the Middle East.

In the past week, more than 7,000 migrants have been plucked from unsafe boats in international waters off the western coast of Libya, where people smugglers operate with impunity.

Despite efforts by Italy and the European Union to bolster the Tripoli-based coast guard and funnel training and equipment to fight trafficking to the U.N.-backed government, record numbers of migrants are coming this year.

More than 50,000 migrants have been rescued at sea and brought to Italy so far, a 46 percent increase on the same period of last year, the Interior Ministry said this week.

Most rescues take place just outside the 12-mile mark that separates Libyan territory from international waters.

It is a busy stretch of sea where humanitarian vessels, the Libyan Coast Guard and even scavengers hoping to recover abandoned migrant boats and their engines all operate.

The Libyan Coast Guard on Tuesday fired shots as non-governmental vessels conducted rescues nearby, humanitarian group Jugend Rettet, which operates the Iuventa rescue ship, said on its Facebook page.

The shooting prompted about 100 migrants to jump into the water and swim toward humanitarian vessels. It was unclear if anyone had been killed or wounded. The Libyans then towed two migrant boats back to shore while humanitarian groups brought more than 1,000 on board.

Libyan coastguard 'opens fire' during refugee rescue as deaths in Mediterranean Sea pass record 1,500

Members of the EU-backed Libyan coastguard have allegedly opened fire while forcing refugees back to the war-torn country in the latest clash with international rescue ships.

It came as more than 30 migrants, including several toddlers and children, drowned in the Mediterranean Sea in the deadliest period ever recorded.

The Luventa, a vessel operated by German charity Jugend Rettet, was among the vessels deployed by maritime commanders in Rome to help around a dozen refugee ships carrying more than 1,800 people on Tuesday.

Crew members said they were on the scene when the Libyan coastguard arrived in several speedboats, despite the refugee vessels having reached international waters.

"The personnel of the Libyan boats were armed and first fired in the direction of a fishing boat," a spokesperson said.

"Afterwards they directed shots to the [refugee] boats in distress."

The Luventa's crew photographed a member of the coastguard on a migrant dinghy pointing what appeared to be a large weapon at refugees, saying officers also beat those on board.

Around 100 people jumped into the sea in the ensuing panic, swimming towards Jugend Rettet's ship and others waiting nearby.

The Iuventa's captain, Jonas, said the refugees were saved by life vests provided by his crew before they were forced back.

"For ourselves, the situation was extremely tough," he added. "We are here to help, but we were compelled to stand inactive, so we would not catch a bullet."

Save the Children, which had also been deployed to the rescue, said the coastguard started off by sinking empty boats but changed to "aggressive behaviour" as missions continued.

"They boarded several boats and multiple gun shots were fired," a spokesperson said.

"While we believe these were warning shots, this hostile behaviour caused panic and tens of people entered the water as a result...this type of aggressive behaviour during rescues of multiple dinghies is extremely dangerous and endangers lives."

It was unclear whether the coastguard unit involved was among those trained by countries including the UK as part of the EU's Operation Sophia mission.

Libya has also recently received new boats from Italy, while the EU considers a lengthy list of requested equipment including armed ships.

Authorities linked to the fragile Government of National Accord (GNA) have been forcing boats launched by smugglers back to the coast in what human rights organisations say is a violation of non-refoulement protections under international law.

Unicef: Välimerellä kuollut tänä vuonna useampi kuin yksi lapsi päivässä

Ainakin 200 lasta on kuollut tänä vuonna Välimerellä matkalla Pohjois-Afrikasta Italiaan, arvioi Unicef.

Tämä tarkoittaa useamman kuin yhden lapsen kuolemaa päivittäin. Sekä yksin tulevien lasten että pakolaisten kokonaismäärä on kasvanut alkuvuonna viime vuoden vastaavasta ajasta.

Unicefin mukaan toukokuun 23. päivään mennessä Italiaan oli tullut meriteitse tämän vuoden aikana yli 45 000 pakolaista ja siirtolaista. Lukumäärä oli 44 prosenttia viime vuoden vastaavaa aikaa suurempi.

Yksin tulleita lapsia heistä on noin 5 500, mikä on 22 prosenttia enemmän viime vuonna vastaavana aikana.

Valtaosa Välimeren keskisen reitin kautta Italiaan saapuvista lapsista matkustaa yksin. Unicefin mukaan 92 prosenttia kyseistä reittiä pitkin Italiaan tulevista lapsista liikkuu yksin.

Unicef arvioi, että Italiaan saapuu tämän vuoden aikana ennätysmäärä yksin liikkuvia lapsia. Viime vuonna heitä oli yhteensä 26 000, mikä oli silloinen ennätys.

As summer approaches, growing numbers of migrants have been attempting the perilous crossing to Europe in rubber dinghies and rickety boats from lawless Libya, where people smugglers operate with impunity.

Nearly 500 refugees are feared drowned after a wooden boat capsized in the Mediterranean Sea between Libya and Italy, the UN migration agency said on Friday.

"On Thursday (25 May) a wooden boat carrying approximately 500 people capsized. A day later the IOM is reporting the remains of 34 people have been recovered from that sinking. It is still not known how many more may have died in that incident," the International Organization for Migration said in a statement.

"The unofficial number of migrants rescued Thursday is around 2,000, indicating that a total number of survivors rescued between Tuesday and Thursday would be close to 6,000, all believed to have sailed from Libya," IOM said.
