Italian prosecutors on Sunday impounded rescue vessel Sea-Watch 3 for breaching immigration rules despite government attempts to block the ship from reaching an Italian port.

The ship rescued 65 migrants off the coast of Libya last week. It had originally signaled its intention to disembark them at an Italian port, but was blocked by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.

Salvini, who leads the far-right League Party, had closed Italian ports to the ship and banned it from entering Italian territorial waters. But days later, the Italian coastguard agreed to take custody of families with children and transferred them to Lampedusa.

The remaining 47 migrants disembarked at Lampedusa on Sunday evening as part of the order to seize the ship.

Italian hallitus on ryhtynyt sulkemaan vastaanottokeskuksia. Tämän seurauksena niiden työntekijöistä 4000 on saanut lopputilin, ja vuoden loppuun mennessä kilometritehtaalla saattaa olla 50 000.

AFM rescues group and says it is bringing them to Malta

A group of 75 migrants found stranded on a tuna pen were rescued by the Armed Forces on Wednesday evening and brought to Malta early on Thursday.

In a statement, the government said the AFM and the Italian coast guard conducted multiple joint rescue operations supporting the Libyan coast guard.

The Italian coast guard carried out other rescues and is taking migrants to Lampedusa.

The rescue is reminiscent of another similar incident in 2008 when a group of 56 migrants were also found clinging on to a tuna pen. The pictures of the rescue then had shocked the world.

The Italian Navy ship Cigala Fulgosi on Thursday intervened to rescue 90 migrants aboard a rubber dinghy that had been in difficulty since Wednesday morning off the coast of Libya.

According to sources, the decision to intervene was made based on worsening weather and the fact that the boat was floating in dangerous condition without an engine.

Thus far no victims aboard have been confirmed.

However, the Alarm Phone hotline for migrant boats in distress in the Mediterranean on Thursday tweeted that it had spoken with migrants aboard the boat just past 8 a.m., and they reported a five-year-old girl had died on board.

The migrants said they saw a helicopter overhead and a ship not far off in the distance.

"They told us that the helicopter was still there and that the boat they saw was not a cargo but a military boat," Alarm Phone tweeted.

The UNHCR confirmed Thursday the evacuation of 149 refugees and asylum seekers from the most vulnerable groups from Libya to Italy.

The evacuees, including 65 children, were of Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia, according to UNHCR statement, adding that the evacuation was carried out in cooperation with the Libyan and Italian authorities.

Tunisian viranomaiset ovat kieltäneet egyptiläistä hinaajaa tuomasta 75 mereltä kansainvälisiltä vesiltä pelastamaansa merimatkailijaa Zarzisin satamaan Tunisiassa. Tunisia accused of refusing to allow migrant boat to dock

Tunisian authorities have stopped 75 migrants saved at sea from coming ashore, according to a rights group and the captain of the ship which rescued them.

The migrants were adrift in international waters in a boat with a broken engine when an Egyptian tug boat brought them on board, the captain said on Saturday on condition of anonymity.

After notifying authorities in Italy and Malta, the crew headed for the southern Tunisian port of Zarzis, where authorities refused to allow the ship to dock.

"We're in a critical situation, we're nearly 100 on board and we don't have more than two days of supplies of water and food," the captain told AFP news agency by phone.

Tunisian rights organisation FTDES said the regional governor demanded government support before accepting the migrants, following an increase in new arrivals from neighbouring Libya in recent months.

Tunisian authorities did not respond to AFP's requests for comment.

The crew of the tug boat rescued 64 Bangladeshis, nine Egyptians, one Moroccan and one Sudanese, who had departed from Zuwara in western Libya, according to FTDES.

The EU and member states should be prosecuted for the deaths of thousands of migrants who drowned in the Mediterranean fleeing Libya, according to a detailed legal submission to the international criminal court (ICC).

The 245-page document calls for punitive action over the EU's deterrence-based migration policy after 2014, which allegedly "intended to sacrifice the lives of migrants in distress at sea, with the sole objective of dissuading others in similar situation from seeking safe haven in Europe".

The two main authors of the submission are Juan Branco, who formerly worked at the ICC as well as at France's foreign affairs ministry, and Omer Shatz, an Israeli lawyer who teaches at Sciences Po university in Paris.

The allegation of "crimes against humanity" draws partially on internal papers from Frontex, the EU organisation charged with protecting the EU's external borders, which, the lawyers say, warned that moving from the successful Italian rescue policy of Mare Nostrum could result in a "higher number of fatalities".

The switch from Mare Nostrum to a new policy from 2014, known as Triton (named after the Greek messenger god of the sea), is identified as a crucial moment "establishing undisputed mens rea [mental intention] for the alleged offences".

It is claimed that the evidence in the dossier establishes criminal liability within the jurisdiction of the ICC for "causing the death of thousands of human beings per year, the refoulement [forcible return] of tens of thousands migrants attempting to flee Libya and the subsequent commission of murder, deportation, imprisonment, enslavement, torture, rape, persecution and other inhuman acts against them".

The Triton policy introduced the "most lethal and organised attack against civilian population the ICC had jurisdiction over in its entire history," the legal document asserts. "European Union and Member States' officials had foreknowledge and full awareness of the lethal consequences of their conduct."

"EU officials sought to end Mare Nostrum to allegedly reduce the number of crossings and deaths," the lawyers maintain. "However, these reasons should not be considered valid as the crossings were not reduced. And the death toll was 30-fold higher."

The subsequent policy, Triton, only covered an "area up to 30 nautical miles from the Italian coastline of Lampedusa, leaving around 40 nautical miles of key distress area off the coast of Libya uncovered," the submission states. It also deployed fewer vessels.

The first mass drownings cited came on 22 January and 8 February 2015, which resulted in 365 deaths nearer to the Libyan coast. It is alleged that in one case, 29 of the deaths occurred from hypothermia during the 12-hour-long transport back to the Italian island of Lampedusa. During the "black week" of 12 to 18 April 2015, the submission says, two successive shipwrecks led to the deaths of 1,200 migrants.

Jos tuo yllä menevä menee läpi, niin silloin viimeistään on syytä vetäytyä pois ICC:stä ja niistä kaikista "kansainvälisitä sopimuksista", jotka sotkevat EU-maat ja vain EU-maat tähän lakimiesten ja migranttien hyväksikäytön suohon. Maltese patrol boats rescue over 350 people

Three boats that departed from Libya full of migrants have been rescued by the Maltese armed forces in the last few hours, said the Times of Malta.

It said Wednesday was one of the busiest days for migrant arrivals in the island's recent history.

Two rescue operations have already concluded - one in which patrol boats rescued 63 migrants aboard a drifting rubber dinghy in the Maltese search-and-rescue zone; and the other a boat with 208 men, women, and children aboard, it said.

A third rescue operation is underway to rescue 99 people from a rubber dinghy.

It is not clear whether any of these operations included the 75 people aboard a boat that was reported on Wednesday morning by Alarm Phone.

Tunisian viranomaiset ovat kieltäneet egyptiläistä hinaajaa tuomasta 75 mereltä kansainvälisiltä vesiltä pelastamaansa merimatkailijaa Zarzisin satamaan Tunisiassa. Pelastetuista 64 on bangladeshiläisiä, 9 egyptiläistä, yksi marokkolainen ja yksi sudanilainen. He olivat lähteneet merimatkalleen Zuwaran kaupungista läntisestä Libyasta. Hinaajan kapteeni kertoo tilanteen aluksella olevan kriittinen, koska ruokaa ja vettä riittää vain kahdeksi päiväksi.

Tunisian viranomaiset eivät ole vieläkään päästäneet alusta satamaan, mutta lähettivät ruokaa, vettä ja sallivat Punaisen Puolikuun ja Arabian ihmisoikeusinstituutin lääkäreiden tarkistaa matkustajien voinnin.

Matkustajat huusivat videolla "we don't want food, we don't want to stay here, we want to go to Europe!" Paikallisten lähteiden mukaan he myös kieltäytyivät terveystarkastuksesta (he taitavat olla hyvässä kunnossa).

Paikallinen kansalaisjärjestö Ftbes vaatii Tunisiaa päästämään aluksen satamaan, mutta (Aquarius-meritaksia aiemmin operoinut) MSF vaatii heidän viemistä Maltalle tai Italiaan, koska Tunisiassa ei ole eurooppalaisen mittakaavan antelasta turvapaikkajärjestelmää (ja korkeaa elintasoa). Rescued migrants off Tunisia for 7 days 'want to go to EU'

Seventy-five migrants aboard a towboat that rescued them off Libya, who have been waiting for the past seven days off the Tunisian port of Zarziz for an authorization to disembark, said in a newly published video that they want to go to Europe.

''We want to go to Europe, we don't want food, we don't want to stay here, we want Europe'', the migrants screamed in the video published on the Facebook page of the NGO 'Tunisian forum for economic and social rights' (Ftdes). The towboat Maridive 601 rescued them off Libya.

According to local sources, the migrants refused to be checked by doctors who were sent on board by the international Red Crescent and the Arab Institute for Human Rights.

The governor of Medenine, Habib Chaouat, authorized the medical checkups and food and water to be sent on board.

However, he is not allowing the boat to dock and offload the migrants, saying the region doesn't have adequate logistical means. He has asked other Tunisian governorates to help.
