Dutch police have arrested three people after traces of their dna were found on guns in an IS hideout in France with links to the 2016 Brussels terror attacks.

The three, aged 26, 30 and 54 were picked up following raids in Groningen, Rotterdam, and a hotel room in Schinnen as well as a jail cell in Zaanstad where one of the three was being held.

A fourth suspect, a man from Sassenheim is already in jail for violent crime and will be questioned by police, the public prosecution department said on Tuesday.

The arrests are connected to the discovery of an IS safe house in a suburb of Paris, two days after the 2016 attacks in Brussels.

The apartment contained five automatic rifles, guns, 30 kilos of explosives, detonators, false passports, mobile phones and jihadist literature. The tenant, named at the time as Réda Kriket, was arrested.

Friend jailed for failing to alert police of 'imminent' terror attack

A young woman who knew about her friend's imminent plot to launch a knife attack on Westminster has been jailed for two years and four months.

Khawla Barghouthi, 21, also faces deportation to Tunisia after she admitted failing to disclose Rizlaine Boular's Islamic State-inspired plan to authorities.

Boular, 22, had discussed and even practised her proposed knife attack at Barghouthi's home in Willesden, north-west London, shortly before her arrest on April 27 last year.

In a bugged conversation, the women were heard laughing as Boular talked about her fears that she might "flop so badly" and cut her arm by accident.

But passing sentence at the Old Bailey, Judge Mark Dennis QC said the defendant knew Boular was serious and did nothing to alert authorities or put her off.

He said she "failed to disclose information about an imminent attack in which a knife would be used to endanger the life of multiple individuals".

He said: "There was a growing awareness over a number of days of the nature of the attack by Rizlaine Boular."

He added: "There is no reason, in my view, to doubt that Rizlaine Boular intended to carry out her violent action, even at the cost of her own life."

Man from Bradford faces terrorism charges

A man from West Yorkshire is set to appear at court tomorrow morning charged with terrorism offences.

Asim Majid, 29, of Cranbourne Road, Bradford has today been charged with one offence contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 (Possessing a record of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of Terrorism).

He has also been charged with one offence contrary to Section 17 Terrorism Act 2000 (Terrorist Funding).

Majid was arrested on Wednesday June 13 by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East (CTP NE) following an investigation.

A warrant of further detention was granted on Friday June 15 which gave officers until Wednesday June 20 to hold and question him. He has been remanded in custody and will appear before Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrow (Thursday).

Al-Ghazi, who changed his name from Robert McCollum last year, pledged his support to ISIS and Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi via social media in 2014.  From July 2014 to June 2015, Al-Ghazi made multiple statements trying to persuade others to join ISIS.  He also expressed his own desire to perpetrate an attack on the United States and had attempted to purchase an AK-47 assault rifle.  Al-Ghazi has communicated with individuals he believed to be members of ISIS in the Middle East and took steps to create propaganda videos for ISIS, according to court documents.

Aziz Ihab Sayyed, 23, of Huntsville, Alabama, was sentenced today to 15 years in prison followed by lifetime supervised release for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers, U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town for the Northern District of Alabama, and Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharp Jr. of the FBI's Birmingham field office, made the announcement after sentencing by U.S. District Judge Abdul K. Kallon.

"We will not tolerate threats to our national security from terrorist groups like ISIS, which continues to radicalize and encourage terrorists through the internet," said Assistant Attorney General Demers.  "The defendant, a citizen of this country, plotted to carry out attacks on his fellow Americans in our country, but was thwarted by the close cooperation of our partners in law enforcement.  This successful outcome should send a clear message to any other would-be terrorists that the National Security Division will find them and bring them to justice."

New York Man Pleads Guilty to Attempting to Provide Material Support to ISIS

Parveg Ahmed, 22, of Queens, New York, pleaded guilty today to attempting to provide material support or resources to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers, U.S. Attorney Richard P. Donoghue for the Eastern District of New York, Assistant Director in Charge William F. Sweeney Jr. of the FBI's New York Field Office, and Commissioner James P. O'Neill of the NYPD, announced the guilty plea, which was accepted by U.S. District Judge Ann M. Donnelly.

As detailed in publicly filed court documents, the defendant is a U.S. citizen who traveled to Saudi Arabia in June 2017, purportedly to celebrate an Islamic religious holiday.  Upon his arrival in Saudi Arabia, the defendant attempted to travel to Syria to join ISIS.  The defendant was apprehended in a country bordering Syria, during his attempted travel to ISIS-controlled territory.  Ahmed was deported back to the United States on Aug. 28, 2017, where he was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

Prior to his travel, the defendant had repeatedly expressed support on social media for ISIS and for individuals who provided support to the foreign terrorist organization's mission of violent extremism.

Terror raids lead to arrest of 21-year-old man in Brisbane

A 21-year-old man from Kuraby, south of Brisbane, has been charged with terrorism-related offences.

The man was arrested at his home on Didcot St this morning, following a raid by the Australian Federal Police, Queensland Police Service and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation.

It will be alleged that between late 2016 and early 2017, the man made preparations to travel to Syria to engage in "hostile activities".

It will also be alleged he encouraged and recruited children to join him in travelling to Syria, so that they could also "join organisations engaged in hostile activities against foreign governments".

The Kuraby man and the kids he was encouraging were not successful in leaving Australia.

The man has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

He has been charged with five counts of preparations for incursions into foreign countries for the purpose of engaging in hostile activities (preparatory acts), two counts of recruiting persons to join organisations engaged in hostile activities against foreign Governments (both juveniles), and seven counts of preparations for incursions into foreign countries for the purpose of engaging in hostile activities (preparatory acts).

The maximum penalty for the preparation for a foreign incursion offence is life imprisonment, and for recruitment for foreign incursion offences, 25 years.

An Iranian diplomat has been arrested along with two people suspected of plotting a bomb attack on a meeting of an exiled Iranian opposition group in France attended by Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani, Belgian authorities said on Monday.

Three other arrests were made in France.

Several former European and Arab ministers also attended the meeting of the Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) - an umbrella bloc of opposition groups in exile that seek an end to Shi'ite Muslim clerical rule in Iran.

Iran's foreign minister called the news a sinister "false-flag ploy" and said Tehran was ready to work with all concerned parties to get to the bottom of it.

Two suspects in Belgium were intercepted by Belgian police on Saturday, with 500 grams of TATP, a home-made explosive produced from easily available chemicals, as well as a detonation device found in their car, a joint statement by the Belgian prosecutor and the intelligence services said.

The 38-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, identified only as Amir S. and Nasimeh N., were charged with attempted terrorist murder and preparation of a terrorist act, it said.

The diplomat at the Iranian embassy in the Austrian capital Vienna was arrested in Germany, the Belgian statement said.

Three people of Iranian origin were arrested in France to assess their link to the Brussels' suspects, a French judicial source said.

"How convenient: Just as we embark on a presidential visit to Europe, an alleged Iranian operation and its 'plotters' arrested," Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted.

Norway's police security agency PST has arrested a man after linking him to Islamic fundamentalism.

The man, who lives in Oslo and is in his thirties, was arrested last weekend. He is reported to have made 'Islamist-motivated' threats against media organisations and individuals, broadcaster NRK reports.

He will appear at Oslo City Court on Tuesday with regard to preliminary detention.

Although PST's senior advisor Martin Bernsen declined to comment on whether the man was previously known to the security agency, he does not have any prior convictions.

Bernsen said that PST became involved in the case due to the nature of the threats and who they were made by.

"PST arrested the man with the assistance of an emergency response unit. We took over the investigation after an overall assessment," he told NRK.

Threats were made against several individuals by the man, he added.

"Several threats against several persons and institutions will be dealt with in the district court today," he said.

The man will be charged with breaching paragraph 117 of Norway's criminal law, which relates to "interfering with the operations of important societal institutions, such as for example a public authority, political party or media organisation" through "the use of force, violence or threats, or in other illegal and organised ways".

Up to six years imprisonment can be given under Norwegian law for crimes of this type.

Mette Yvonne Larsen, the man's defence lawyer, told NRK she did not wish to comment.

Assadollah Assadi, a Vienna-based diplomat, is suspected of contracting a couple in Belgium to attack an annual meeting of an exiled Iranian opposition group in Villepinte, near Paris, German federal prosecutors said.

He allegedly gave the Antwerp-based couple a device containing 500 grams (one pound) of the explosive TATP during a meeting in Luxembourg in late June, prosecutors said in a written statement.

Six foreign workers deported, one arrested over terror allegations

Six migrant workers have been deported this year over allegations they supported international terrorist groups.

This followed a joint operation by South Korea's top law enforcers.

Police, prosecutors, the national intelligence service and the justice ministry discovered evidence that the suspects endorsed the terrorist groups "beyond curiosity" and shared information about them with others.

The information came to light in a report revealed during the national anti-terror committee's regular meeting at the Seoul Government Complex on Monday. Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon presided over it.

Another report said a Syrian migrant worker was arrested in Incheon for inciting co-workers to join extreme Islamic terrorist group ISIS. The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's international criminal investigation bureau arrested the man, 33, for showing ISIS promotional video clips to the workers and encouraging them to join it. The authority sent his case to prosecutors early this month.

The Syrian is the first to be charged under the nation's anti-terror laws that were introduced in 2016 to thwart domestic aggression.

A special feature of this case is that the suspects were summoned by the Public Prosecutor via social media for the hearing. Presumably they were at that moment in the battle zone in Syria or Iraq. Although none of the suspects appeared at the hearing, the court finds that they knew about the session and did not want to use their right to exist or, as it were, have withdrawn from their trial. In the latter case, the seriousness of the accusation was the decisive factor in deciding the case in public.

A fourth suspect, like the others, was suspected of participating in a terrorist organization but was acquitted. He can be seen in a video while he holds a weapon. However, it is not clear where this video was made and in what context. In addition, there is no supporting evidence that the suspect actually participated in a terrorist organization.

On July 19, 2018, the court pronounces judgment in a similar case against 7 suspects. They too have been called up via social media and are suspected of participating in a terrorist organization.

Isis-jihadistijärjestölle uskollinen mies on tänään keskiviikkona todettu syylliseksi Iso-Britannian pääministeri Theresa Mayn murhaamisen suunnitteluun.

20-vuotias Naa'imur Zakariyah Rahman suunnitteli, että räjäyttäisi pommin pääministerin Downing Streetin asunnon sisääntuloporteilla, tappaisi vartijat ja hyökkäisi Mayn kimppuun puukon tai käsiaseen kanssa.

FBI:n tutkijat pureutuivat tapaukseen perusteellisesti. He seurasivat Elshinawyn puheluita, rahaliikennettä ja sosiaalisen median toimintaa. Selvisi, että mies oli vannonut uskollisuutta ISIS:lle verkkokeskusteluiden yhteydessä. Hän oli kuvannut itseään sotilaaksi, joka oli sitoutunut "verisen jihadin toteuttamiseen".

Khalid Ali: Westminster plot bomb-maker jailed for life

A plumber has been jailed for life for planning a terror attack in Westminster and making bombs for the Taliban.

Khalid Ali, 28, from Edmonton in north London, was arrested on 27 April 2017 in Parliament Street, London, where he was caught carrying three knives.

It was later revealed that he had spent five years in Afghanistan making bombs.

He will serve with a minimum term of 40 years for preparing an act of terrorism in the UK and two counts of possessing an explosive substance with intent.

Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC said that all three convictions were "very grave indeed".

Ali had been "part of a very substantial operation engaged in terrorist activity in Afghanistan", he said.

The judge said the UK plot was designed to attract "maximum publicity and instil terror".

He added: "I am sure your plan was to attack and kill someone in central London.

"Your preparations were complete and you very simply had to identify your precise target and his or her death was very likely to be caused by a knife attack.

"I think you would have killed any police officer you could."

Judge Hilliard passed life sentences with minimum terms of 40 years for the explosives offences, and life with a minimum term of 25 years for planning an attack in the UK - which will run concurrently.

Terror-accused teens claimed knives were for 'pig hunting', court told

Two teenagers accused of planning a terrorist attack in Sydney told a shop assistant they were going pig hunting as they bought two large knives at a gun shop, a jury has heard.

The two teens, aged 17 and 18, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are on trial in the Supreme Court in Parramatta.

In his opening remarks, Crown Prosecutor Ian Bourke SC told the court the pair were both 16 years old at the time and were under surveillance from an Australian security agency in the lead-up to their arrest.

He told the jury the teens, who were friends and both held extremist Islamic views, went to a gun shop in Bankstown on October 6, 2016 and bought two knives.

He said that is when they made the remark, "we're going pig hunting, we want to buy some pig hunting knives" to the shop keeper.

Mr Bourke told the jury the statement was significant because when the pair were arrested six days later, the police officers were called "pigs" and told, "you're going to burn in hell".

He told the court the teens were taken into custody after a second trip to the same gun shop on October 12th, where two M9 bayonets where purchased.

This type of blade is normally fixed to the barrel of a rifle.

Defendants wrote note 'pledging allegiance'

The jury heard an unfinished note was also found on the teens, written half in English and half in Arabic.

"The crown says that handwritten note amounts to... some kind of pledge of allegiance to the caliphate — which is an expression that's used in connection with ISIS, Islamic State," Mr Bourke said.

He said both teens had electronic devices like phones and laptops seized by investigators, which when analysed showed numerous internet searches for content such as terror attacks and Islamic State figures on websites like YouTube.

Two arrested for planning attacks in Netherlands, Paris

Two men were arrested in Rotterdam on June 17th on suspicion of planning attacks in the Netherlands and France, the Public Prosecutor announced on Monday. The suspects are 22 and 27 years old, and both of Moroccan nationality. They were arrested based on information from intelligence agency AIVD, the Prosecutor said.

The AIVD received information that one of the suspects wanted to commit an attack in Paris after Ramadan. "He wanted to die as a martyr and was excited about what he would find in paradise", the Prosecutor said. Investigation into chat conversations revealed a possible plan for an attack aimed at the security services in the Netherlands. "In one chat conversation, one of the suspects mentioned a plan for an attack. He also sent a photo of the Veranda police station in Rotterdam."

No weapons or explosives were found when the men were arrested last month. The arrests were only made public today, as the two suspects were in restricted custody until now. They were arraigned on Monday and remanded into another 90 days of custody.

Rotterdam police chief Frank Paauw said that the photo of the Rotterdam police station that surfaced in this investigation made police officers uncomfortable, according to NU.nl. "It has an impact on the Rotterdam unit and on colleagues across the country", he said. The officers stationed at the Veranda station were notified on Monday.

Germany arrests wife in foiled 'biological attack' plot

German police on Tuesday arrested the wife of a Tunisian suspected jihadist already in custody over a foiled biological attack with the deadly poison ricin, prosecutors said.

The federal prosecutor's office said in a statement that the suspect identified only as German national Yasmin H., 42, had been picked up on suspicion of "planning a serious act of violent subversion".

Police commandos on June 12th stormed the Cologne apartment of Yasmin H.'s husband, the 29-year-old Tunisian Sief Allah H., and discovered "toxic substances" that turned out to be ricin.

On Tuesday, they said Yasmin H., reportedly a convert to Islam, had organized a trip to Poland for her husband in late 2017 to buy explosive materials.

Later, they allege, she allowed him to use her online accounts to order ingredients to make ricin. They then bought a hamster to test the potency of the poison.

Yasmin H. has been considered a radical by the security authorities for some time, according to a report in Spiegel Online. The mother of six is said to have sought contact with Islamists in the past. However, she initially denied any involvement in her husband's plans.

She met her current husband, who comes from Tunisia, via Facebook, according to Spiegel. The two met for the first time in October 2015 and married immediately afterwards. Sief Allah H. worked as an intern in a post office in Tunisia. In winter 2016 he moved to Cologne to join his wife there.

Sief Allah H. had been in contact with radical Islamists and had tried twice last year, allegedly with Yasmin H.'s help, to travel via Turkey to Syria, "presumably to the 'Islamic State'" bases there.

Man jailed for distributing terrorist-related material in east London (24.7.2018)

A man has been jailed for distributing terrorist-related flyers and CDs in east London.

Khalid Javed Baqa, 53 (29.06.64) from east London has today, Tuesday, 24 July been sentenced at the Old Bailey to four years and eight months' imprisonment.

Baqa previously pleaded guilty to five counts of dissemination of terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act – the offences spanning a 12-month period between June 2016 and June 2017. He received the same sentence for all – to run concurrent.

The investigation, which was carried out by the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, revealed how Baqa was distributing extreme Islamist and terrorist-related material via printed flyers and audio CDs containing various speeches and dialogue encouraging jihad and violence.

Commander Clarke Jarrett, Head of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command said: "Baqa was reproducing and distributing terrorist related material in the hope of getting others involved and drawn into the same toxic ideology he was peddling.

"Not only that, but he also radicalised and involved a young impressionable 17-year-old, whom he then used to help distribute his pamphlets and CDs.

"This investigation came about after a vigilant tube driver found suspicious items that had been left on his tube and reported this to police. As a result, we were able to link the material to Baqa and uncover what he was up to. It shows the importance of reporting this kind of activity to police, however small, and I'd urge the public to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious."

On 13 June, 2017 officers arrested Baqa and searched his home address. They found several copies of CDs identical to those found at the hospital chapel, which contained speeches inciting violence and jihad.

Further enquiries revealed Baqa was using a printing and copying shop in east London to make copies of the jihad-related fliers he was then distributing.

In October 2017, officers also arrested the 17-year-old, whom they suspected as helping distribute the material Baqa was reproducing. Analysis of phones and computers seized also showed how the pair had sent digital copies of the fliers to each other.

Baqa was charged on 11 October with dissemination of terrorist material. The 17-year-old was subsequently charged on 17 January 2018 with one count of dissemination of terrorist material and two counts of doing an act encouraging or enabling another to commit an offence, contrary to section 44(1) of the Serious Crime Act.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to the offences and was sentenced at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on 5 March to a 12-month intensive referral order.

Kahta ISIS­ille uskollisuutta vannonutta teiniä syytetään terrori-iskun suunnittelusta Australiassa. Nämä olivat ostaneet lokakuussa 2017 kaksi isoa veistä ja kertoneet lähtevänsä "sikajahtiin". Pidätettäessä he kutsuivat poliiseja sioiksi.

Piti ihan tarkistaa. Villiintyneet kesysiat ovat tosiaankin Australiassa vieraslajina ongelma. Olisi ollut melkoinen kuningasveto sanoa metsästävänsä sikoja maassa jossa niitä ei ole. Australiassa, myös Sydneyn ympäristössä niitä valitettavasti on.

Neljä Ruotsia vastaan terrori-iskua suunnitellutta äärijärjestö Isisin jäsentä on tapettu Syyriassa. Asiasta kertoo Yhdysvaltojen Lähi-Idän sotatoimien päämaja Centcom.

Yhdysvaltojen johtama liittouma kertoo tappaneensa kevään ja kesän aikana Syyriassa kuusi kuusi Isisin jäsentä, jotka olivat joko korkeassa asemassa järjestössä tai suunnittelivat terrori-iskuja eri maihin.

Suunnitellut iskut olisivat Centcomin tiedotteen mukaan kohdistuneet Yhdysvaltoihin, Ruotsiin ja Saudi-Arabiaan.

Neljä tapetuista oli suoraan mukana Ruotsia vastaan aiotun iskun suunnittelussa. Ruotsin-iskua suunnitelleet tapettiin kesäkuun 12. ja 26. päivän välisenä aikana.

Yksi kuudesta tapetuista oli Isisin korkea-arvoinen tiedustelu-upseeri ja toinen belgialainen vierastaistelija.

July 24, 2018 — SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition strikes have killed six Daesh leaders and planners since April 24.

The removal of these leaders has prevented Daesh external attack planning, facilitation and operations targeting Saudi Arabia, the United States and Sweden.

Munawwar al-Mutayari, a Syrian-based Daesh member planning external attacks to be carried out in Saudi Arabia, was killed by a Coalition kinetic strike April 24.

A Belgian foreign fighter, Soufiane Makouh, who came to Syria to plan attacks against the U.S and its interests, was killed by a kinetic strike June 2.

On June 12, Coalition forces conducted a kinetic strike against Simak, a Daesh intelligence official linked to a terror cell plotting attacks in Sweden. Two additional individuals directly associated with the Sweden attack plot, Abu Awf and Abu-Quddamah, were killed on June 24. Additionally, Swedish attack cell member Sharif al-Ragab was killed June 26.

"With its conventional forces under heavy pressure in Syria, Daesh is desperately seeking to remain relevant through operations that threaten all the nations of the world," said Brig. Gen. Brian Eifler, director of operations for Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve. "The Coalition and its partners will continue to deny Daesh safe havens in Syria and Iraq in order to disrupt the terrorist group's capabilities to plan, coordinate and carry out attacks on the nations of the world."
