Länsi-Afrikassa sijaitsevassa Guineassa kymmeniä ihmisiä on kuollut jalkapallofanien yhteenotoissa Nzérékorén kaupungissa. Uutistoimisto AFP:n haastattelemien lääkäreiden mukaan arviot kuolonuhrien määrästä vaihtelivat kymmenistä jopa noin sataan.

"Sairaalalla ruumiita on jonossa silmänkantamattomiin. Osa makaa käytävillä. Ruumishuone on täynnä", kertoi AFP:lle kommentoinut lääkäri.

AFP:n haastattelemat silminnäkijät kertoivat, että vihaiset väkijoukot olisivat lisäksi sytyttäneet paikallisen poliisiaseman tuleen.Ranskalaisen radiokanava RFI:n mukaan väkivaltaisuudet alkoivat guinealaisturnauksen finaalin lopulla ottelun tuomarin kiistanalaisen päätöksen jälkeen.

Kongon demokraattisessa tasavallassa Afrikassa riehuvan mysteerisairauden taudinaiheuttaja on toistaiseksi tuntematon.

Ainakin 79 ihmistä on kuollut. Oireina on esiintynyt kuumetta, päänsärkyä, yskää, hengitysvaikeuksia ja anemiaa.

Yli 100 000 ihmistä on paennut viikon aikana taisteluja Kongon demokraattisessa tasavallassa keskisessä Afrikassa, kertoi YK:n humanitaaristen asioiden koordinointitoimisto OCHA.

Ruandan tukemat M23-kapinallisjoukot ottivat viikonloppuna haltuunsa Masisin kaupungin alueella. Ruandan mukaan aluetta ovat viime aikoina hallinneet hutujoukot, joilla on yhteyksiä Ruandassa vuonna 1994 tapahtuneeseen tutsien kansanmurhaan.

The 23-year-old Guinean from Beelitz-Heilstätten, who is strongly suspected of having killed the 24-year-old CDU politician Christoph Rosenschon, is Mahmadou-Alpha Barry. NIUS learned this from security circles.

After the killing on January 14, the Guinean lived undisturbed at his home address for two weeks - before he struck again.

During the night from Saturday to Sunday, the 23-year-old Guinean is said to have tried to kill a 54-year-old Ukrainian woman . She is said to have strangled Barry before he stabbed her - and then jumped out of the bathroom window herself. The police were able to arrest him at the scene of the crime. It is unclear what the relationship between the Ukrainian woman and the Guinean was; as Bild reports , the woman was said to have previously stayed in the perpetrator's apartment and was massaged by him.

Revolt of Schramme Mercenaries Congo Crisis '67 - Africa O Morte

The tales of mercenaries in the Congo, never fail to impress. Many characters took on new personas and carved their names into the pages of history, either by their courage to fight or their tragic tale of ragged-to-riches. Nonetheless, the life of Jack Schramme is definitely one that deserves to be told. Hopefully, this video sheds some life on these legendary figures who fought for their cause, during a very troubled time.

On the morning of 5 July 1967 10 Commando ANC, Schramme's unit, launched surprise attacks on Stanleyville, Kindu, and Bukavu. Schramme led the attack on the army's barracks at Stanleyville, leading a force of 11 white mercenaries and about 100 Katangese in the assault. The attack killed hundreds of Congolese soldiers and their families, leading to the wrathful Congolese to execute 30 mercenaries not involved in the coup attempt. The attack that Schramme planned was described as "badly executed" as he behaved with over-confidence in believing that his small force would be enough to take Stanleyville. The Congolese fought back and within a week, Schramme had been forced to retreat from Stanleyville.

Schramme tried to take control of Stanleyville, Congo. Defeated, his force retreated south into Kivu province. By August 10, his troops conquered the border town of Bukavu and had grown considerably in number. Schramme was able to hold Bukavu for seven weeks and managed to defeat all ANC troops who were sent to retake the town. The ANC suffered from a lack of artillery and was frustrated and demotivated over its continuous losses. By accident, some ANC T-28 flying missions even attacked their own troops instead of Schramme's. The shortages of ammunition were a major problem for the ANC, but Schramme's forces suffered from even greater shortages of ammunition as the expected support from abroad failed to arrive. Extra forces including the elite 2nd Parachute Brigade helped the ANC to finally defeat Schramme on 29 October 1967. The surviving rebel troops fled into Rwanda.

Trivia: A number of Katangese gendarmes fled into Angola, where they retained their loyalty to the Mwaant Yav, the traditional king of the Lunda people. The exiles were recruited by the Portuguese colonial authorities to fight against the Angolan guerrillas. Thomas Tshombe, the brother of Moise Tshombe and the current reigning Mwaant Yav, pressed for Schramme to be placed in charge of the Katangese exiles in Angola, a request refused by the Portuguese authorities who did not want such a well-known man in Angola.

More than 100 female prisoners were raped and then burned alive during a jailbreak in the Congolese city of Goma, according to the UN.

Hundreds of prisoners broke out of Munzenze prison last Monday, after fighters from the M23 rebel group began to take over the city.

Between 165 and 167 women were assaulted by male inmates during the jailbreak, an internal UN document seen by the BBC says.

The report states that most of the women were killed after the inmates set fire to the prison.

Goma, a major city of more than a million people, was captured after the Rwanda-backed M23 executed a rapid advance through eastern DR Congo.

The city was plunged into chaos, with bodies lying in the streets and missiles reportedly flying over residential homes.

Film directors Octavio Getino and Fernando Solanas harshly criticized the film in their manifesto Toward a Third Cinema (1970), calling Jacopetti a fascist. They said that in the film, man is "viewed as a beast," and is "turned into an extra who dies so Jacopetti can comfortably film his execution."[17]

Film critic Roger Ebert, in a scathing 1967 review of the shortened American version of the film, called it "racist" and stated that it "slanders a continent." He drew attention to the opening narration:

"Europe has abandoned her baby," the narrator mourns, "just when it needs her the most." Who has taken over, now that the colonialists have left? The advertising spells it out for us: "Raw, wild, brutal, modern-day savages!"[18]

US Ambassador to the United Nations Arthur Goldberg condemned the film as "grossly distorted" and "socially irresponsible," noting the protests of five African UN delegates.[19] In West Germany, a protest movement against the film emerged after Africa Addio was awarded by the state-controlled movie rating board. The protest was chiefly organized by the Socialist German Student Union (SDS) and groups of African students. In West Berlin, the distributor resigned from showing the film after a series of demonstrations and damage to cinemas.

Lapset söivät lepakon – Nyt yli 50 on kuollut mysteeritautiin
Tauti havaittiin Kongon demokraattisessa tasavallassa ensin lapsilla, jotka olivat syöneet lepakon.

Tuntematon tauti on surmannut viiden viikon sisään ainakin 53 ihmistä Kongon demokraattisessa tasavallassa, amerikkalainen uutistoimisto AP kertoo.

Epidemia sai alkunsa maan luoteisosassa sijaitsevassa Bolokon kylässä 21. tammikuuta, kun Maailman terveysjärjestön Afrikan-osaston mukaan kolme lasta kuoli syötyään lepakkoa.

Sairauden oireisiin kuuluvat kuume, oksentelu ja sisäinen verenvuoto. Useimmissa tapauksissa kuolema on seurannut vain 48 tunnin sisällä ensimmäisten oireiden ilmaantumisesta.
