France's interior minister says two potential terror attacks have been thwarted in France since January.

Minister Gerald Collomb says Sunday on CNews television that one attack was targeting a major sports center, and the other French soldiers. He said both plots were "not totally finalized." He didn't elaborate.

Collomb said several suspects in the cases have been arrested and jailed. They were known by authorities as radicalized, he said.

The French government on Friday unveiled a wide-ranging new program to counter radicalization, as French jihadis return from the battlefields of Syria and Iraq and the watch list grows of people showing risk signs.

The plan, made up of 60 measures, puts the accent on prevention, notably aimed at trying to catch danger signals within society.

German Prosecutors Detain Syrian Asylum Seeker Accused of Terror Links

German prosecutors say they have detained a 28-year-old Syrian man on allegations he fought with an extremist organization in Syria.

Frankfurt prosecutors said in a statement Monday that the suspect, whose name was not released, was detained last week upon his arrival at Frankfurt airport.

Prosecutor Alexander Badle says the suspect is accused of membership in the ultraconservative Ahrar al-Sham group since 2013 or 2014, and that he is also accused of having participated in battles in the Syrian civil war.

He first entered Germany in 2015 as an asylum- seeker, but left the country again last summer. When he tried to re-enter Germany last week, he was detained.

Prosecutors said they could not reveal any further details because of the ongoing investigation.

Isis supporter who tried to recruit terrorists around the world from UK home jailed

Mohammed Kamal Hussain was turned in by man he targeted abroad

A man who tried to recruit Isis fighters around the world from his London home has been jailed after one of his targets turned him in.

Mohammed Kamal Hussain, 28, sent thousands of messages aiming to generate support for the terrorist group using Facebook, WhatsApp and the Telegram messaging service.

Police only discovered his activities after a man who lives outside the UK emailed the Home Office in March 2017, saying he had received a Facebook message from a stranger inviting him to join Isis.

Hussain, a Bangladeshi national who had overstayed his visa and was living in east London, was jailed for seven years at Kingston Crown Court.

The jury found him guilty of two counts of encouraging terrorism and one count of supporting a proscribed organisation.

Commander Dean Haydon, head of the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, said: "This investigation started with one conscientious individual trusting his instincts and reporting something suspicious.

"He could have ignored the message Hussain sent him but instead he took a screenshot of the message and contacted the UK authorities immediately. It is in great part thanks to him that police were able to bring Hussain to justice."

'Teacher' guilty of recruiting 'army of children' for London attacks

Umar Haque swore children to secrecy and trained them for atrocities with terror-attack role play and physical exercises.

A self-styled teacher has been found guilty of trying to recruit an "army of children" for Islamic State inspired attacks in London.

Umar Haque was convicted on Thursday of training young people, with role play and physical exercise, for attacks on 30 landmarks across the capital.

The 25-year-old plotted to target landmarks including Big Ben, the Queen's Guard and Westfield shopping centre, using guns and a car packed with explosives.

He groomed children as young as 11 at the Ripple Road mosque in Barking, showing them a violent IS video to give a more "holistic" view of the group and swearing them to secrecy, the court heard.

One victim told police that Haque had aimed to gather an army of 300 men.

"Umar has been teaching us how to fight, do push-ups, given strength and within six years he was planning to do a big attack on London," the boy said.

"He's training us now so by the time I'm in Year 10 we will be physically strong enough to fight."

A self-styled teacher with no formal qualifications, Haque was able to access 250 young people over five years at two schools and at the Ripple Road Madrassa, potentially attempting to radicalise 110 of them.

Parents at the fee-paying Lantern of Knowledge Islamic school in Leyton were "horrified" when it emerged that Haque had been teaching their children religious studies and PE.

Abuthaher Mamun, 19, and Muhammad Abid, 27, were convicted of attempting to help the would-be terrorist with fundraising and support.

In bugged conversations, Haque was recorded telling conspirators they were "here to cause terror" and saying he had been inspired by the 2017 Westminster Bridge attack.

"We are a death squad sent by Allah and his messengers to avenge my Arab brothers' blood," he said.

Isis follower tried to create jihadist child army in east London

A dangerous extremist who attempted to build an army of child jihadists by radicalising pupils has been convicted of a range of terrorism offences.

Umar Haque, 25, taught an Islamic studies class despite having no teaching qualifications and being employed as an administrator. He was allowed to supervise classes of 11- to 14-year-olds on his own, during which he re-enacted attacks on police officers and showed students videos of beheadings.

Police fear Haque attempted to radicalise at least 110 children, some of whom he was in contact with at the Ripple Road mosque in Barking, east London. Thirty-five of the children are receiving long-term support.

Haque also worked at the £3,000-a-year Lantern of Knowledge Islamic school, where he was again allowed access to children alone under the pretence of teaching Islamic studies when he was in fact employed as an administrator.

Jurors were told he attempted to radicalise children at the school, but were unable to agree on a count of disseminating a terrorist document which related to his time at the school.

Haque was convicted by a jury at the Old Bailey on Friday of a number of offences, including plotting terrorist attacks. He had previously admitted four charges of collecting information useful for terrorism and one count of disseminating a terrorist document in relation to his attempts to radicalise children at the mosque. He was acquitted of conspiring to possess firearms.

Two other men, Abuthaher Mamun, 19, and Muhammad Abid, 27, were convicted for their roles in helping him. A fourth defendant, Nadeem Patel, 26, who had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a handgun, was acquitted of plotting with Haque.

"His plan was to build an army of children," said Commander Dean Haydon, the head of counter-terrorism at Scotland Yard. "He had shown them graphic terrorist videos of barbarity, beheading videos and serious injuries mostly in terrorist attacks overseas.

"He had instructed children not to say anything in relation to not telling their teachers or their parents. We had a wall of silence.

"He tried to prepare the children for martyrdom by making them roleplay terrorist attacks in London. Part of that re-enactment including attacking police officers."

Haque was employed at Lantern of Knowledge from September 2015 to September 2016 as an administrator but also carried out duties as a classroom assistant. He allegedly used his laptop in the school to project images of guns, knives, beheadings and passports being burned on to a whiteboard, the court heard.

He was also involved in running evening classes in a madrasa based in a large marquee attached to the mosque in Ripple Road in late 2016 and early 2017.

He told the boys, aged about 12 to 14, that he had established contact with Isis and showed them a series of videos projected on to the wall inside the marquee, ensuring the doors were closed.

The images included blood, wounds and people falling from buildings. One film showed the exhumation of a boy. Haque told the children the child's body had deteriorated because he had been beaten after death when he was unable to answer questions put to him by angels.

He also had the children in the madrasa doing push-ups, races and grappling with each other in order to train them.

There were sessions of roleplaying during which the children would be divided into police and attackers, and there were demonstrations of how to sever a head. After the Westminster Bridge attack by Khalid Masood last March, Haque used the atrocity as inspiration for the roleplays.

A teenager from south Wales has been found guilty of plotting a terror attack in Cardiff.

The boy, from Rhondda Cynon Taff, who cannot be named, was arrested on the day of a Justin Bieber concert at the Principality Stadium on 30 June.

The 17-year-old has been found guilty of five terror-related charges at Birmingham Crown Court.

Lloyd Gunton locked up for Bieber terror plot

A 17-year-old boy who was "hours away from committing an act of atrocity" in Cardiff has been detained indefinitely and must serve at least 11 years.

Lloyd Gunton was arrested after researching the security arrangements of a Justin Bieber concert, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

The jury was told he plotted to commit mass murder in an Islamic State-inspired vehicle attack.

Police investigated after he uploaded terror-related social media posts.

Gunton, from near Llantrisant, south Wales, was arrested after he uploaded social media content to photo-sharing social media site Instagram in late June 2017 which promoted jihad and supported al-Qaeda.

The former A-level student, who has an autism diagnosis, had published images of terrorists, as well as pictures of the so-called Islamic State flag, and photos encouraging a terrorist attack in Cardiff.

Police found the password for the account was "truck attack".

One post read: "May Allah bring terrorism to Cardiff on 30th June."

He had researched how to carry out a vehicle ramming attack and how to stab and kill and had also looked into the security arrangements of the Justin Bieber concert in Cardiff's Principality Stadium.

His internet history included searches for "Isis beheading video", "how to create a terror attack" and "what does getting shot feel like".

When arrested, the teenager was found with a gutting knife and a hammer in his school rucksack, and the "martyrdom letter" said he was a "soldier of the Islamic state" and "more attacks will follow".

He was found guilty of one charge of engaging in the preparation of a terrorist act, two charges of encouraging terrorism, and a further two charges of possessing terrorist information.

He was detained at Her Majesty's Pleasure at Birmingham Crown Court and will be returned to a young offenders institution where he has been held since his conviction.

BRITANNIA Äärijärjestö Isisiä tukeva mies suunnitteli terrori-iskuja muun muassa Big Beniin, pankkeihin ja suureen ostoskeskukseen.
Britanniassa äärijärjestö Isisiä tukevan miehen todettiin perjantaina syyllistyneen lasten värväämiseen jihadistien riveihin. Uutistoimisto Reuters kertoo, että 25-vuotias Umar Haque oli näyttänyt 11–14-vuotiaille lapsille teloitusvideoita ja muuta väkivaltaa sisältävää propagandaa sekä pakottanut lapset leikkimään roolileikkejä, joissa he hyökkäsivät poliiseja vastaan.

Lontoon poliisin mukaan miehen toimien tarkoituksena oli värvätä lapsia toteuttamaan useita terrori-iskuja Lontoossa. Haque suunnitteli syyttäjän mukaan käyttävänsä lapsia esimerkiksi Big Benin torniin, kuningattaren vartijoihin, pankkeihin, suureen ostoskeskukseen ja medioihin kohdistuvissa iskuissa.

– Hän yritti ja uskoaksemme radikalisoikin 11–14-vuotiaita, haavoittuvaisia lapsia, Dean Haydon Lontoon poliisin terrorismiyksiköstä kommentoi.




Lapsista 35 on nyt Reutersin mukaan nyt viranomaisten erityistarkkailussa. Kuusi lapsista todisti oikeudessa kertoen yksityiskohtaisesti, kuinka Haque oli opettanut heille, että taisteleminen on oikein. Haydonin mukaan lapset olivat olleet hyvin peloissaan, koska Haque oli sanonut kuuluvansa Isisiin ja uhkaillut lapsia videoilla nähdyllä kohtalolla, jos he kertoisivat vanhemmilleen tai opettajilleen.

Haque ei virallisesti työskennellyt koulussa opettajana, eikä hänellä ollut valtuuksia opettajan tehtäviin. Poliisin mukaan hän oli kuitenkin esiintynyt kuin opettaja ja levittänyt propagandaa 110:lle lapselle. Kyseessä oli Lontoon itäosissa sijaitsevan moskeijan yhteydessä toimiva pieni islamilainen koulu.

– Hänen ei olisi pitänyt opettaa. Meillä on ollut haasteita sekä paikallisen yhteisön että instituutioiden kanssa, Haydon sanoi.

Abuthaher Mamun suunnitteli Haquen kanssa iskua, jossa he ajaisivat räjähteillä täytetyn auton väkijoukkoon Lontoossa.


Viranomaiset uskovat Haquen radikalisoituneen internetissä ja saaneen inspiraatiota Lontoossa viime maaliskuussa tehdystä terrori-iskusta. Tuolloin Khalid Masood ajoi vuokratulla autolla jalankulkijoiden päälleen Westminsterin sillalla tappaen neljä ihmistä. Myöhemmin hän puukotti kuoliaaksi myös poliisin.

Haque oli lisäksi keskustellut vastaavan iskun tekemisestä 19-vuotiaan Abuthaher Mamunin kanssa, joka niin ikään opetti moskeijalla. Miehet olivat suunnitelleet aseistautuvansa ja täyttävänsä vuokra-auton räjähteillä. Suunnitelmat olivat poliisin mukaan kuitenkin vasta alkutekijöissään.

Mamunin lisäksi myös 27-vuotias Muhammad Abid todettiin syylliseksi iskujen suunnitteluun ja avustukseen siihen liittyvässä varojenhankinnassa. Tuomiot luetaan myöhemmin.

21 foreigners plotting Daesh attacks in Istanbul captured

Counterterrorism police in Istanbul captured 21 foreign Daesh suspects on Friday in multiple operations. Police officers raided 15 locations in the city's 12 districts in the early hours to capture suspects who were allegedly planning to carry out attacks in the city.

Daesh is responsible for several attacks in Istanbul as well as other cities. In June 2016, three Daesh militants killed 45 people in an armed attack followed by suicide bombings at the city's Atatürk Airport. Last year, during New Year's celebrations, a Daesh militant killed 39 people at a popular nightclub on the Bosporus shore. The militant was captured alive in Istanbul's Esenyurt district a few weeks later.

Amid fears that Daesh militants who fled Syria could hit Europe and Turkey, authorities have heightened crackdowns on the terrorist group with almost daily operations.

Viime viikon perjantaina afgaanimies uhkasi räjäyttää pommin Bernissä Heiliggeistkirche-nimisessä kirkossa, mikä aiheutti useamman tunnin poliisioperaation sekä häiriötä liikenteeseen. Poliisi nappasi miehen kiinni.

Bern bomb alert operation ends with one arrest

A young Afghan man threatened to detonate a bomb on Friday afternoon in the Swiss capital's Church of the Holy Spirit, prompting a five-hour police operation that disrupted traffic around Bern's main train station, according to a police spokeswoman.

Speaking after the police operation ended, she said Bern cantonal police had received a bomb alert early in the afternoon saying that a man was behaving strangely in the church.

When they arrived, police found suspicious objects on the 21-year-old man inside. The church was evacuated and the young man was detained for "further clarifications", according to a police statement in the evening.

It further said two objects were neutralized, namely two components linked by cable that the man was carrying on his person. They have been taken for analysis, which police said would take time.

The area around the church, which sits right next to Bern train station's main entrance, was sealed off for hours for security reasons. Traffic was unable to move, while certain tram and bus lines were also affected. The main entrance to the station was closed, but without disruption to rail services.

The security cordon was lifted early evening on Friday, but the zone immediately next to the church and the church itself remain closed for purposes of the investigation. Police cannot yet say whether the objects found on the young man in the church presented a real danger to the public or not.

UK terror-related arrests rose almost 60% to record high in 2017

The number of people arrested for terrorism-related offences in Britain rose by 58% to a record high of 412 in 2017 – one of the most intense periods of terrorist attacks in recent history.

The Home Office quarterly statistics published on Thursday show there were 412 arrests in 2017 compared with 261 in 216.

The record figures include 12 people arrested for the Westminster attacks in March, 23 people linked to the attack in Manchester in May, 21 arrests connected with the London Bridge attack in June and one arrest in connection with the Finsbury Park mosque attack later that month. A further seven arrests were made in connection with the attack on Parsons Green tube station in September.

The figures reflect the growing threat from jihadists in Britain. The director general of MI5, Andrew Parker, spoke in October of "a dramatic upshift in the threat this year" to the "highest tempo I've seen in my 34-year career".

The detailed Home Office figures show that the 412 arrests in 2017 resulted in 135 people being charged – 110 of them for terrorism-related offences. More than half – 228 or 55% – were released without charge, 33 were released on bail pending further investigation and 13 faced alternative action.

So far, 29 of the 110 people charged with a terrorist offence in 2017 have been prosecuted. All of them were convicted. A further 76 are awaiting prosecution. The remaining five cases have either not proceeded or are pending.

The latest figures show there were 224 terrorist prisoners in jails in Britain at the end of 2017 – an increase of 24%, or 43, over the previous year – and continuing the upward trend seen in recent years. The overwhelming majority – 86% – held Islamic extremist views while 9% were rightwing extremists including from the recently banned National Action,. The remaining 5% were classified as "other ideologies".

Yamen A. tuli maahan syyskuussa 2015, haki turvapaikkaa helmikuussa 2016 ja sai 3 vuoden oleskeluluvan huhtikuussa 2016. Ehta punahilkka siis.

Germany charges Syrian refugee for alleged bomb plot

A Syrian national had attempted to kill at least 200 people, prosecutors said. The suspect tried to "create a climate of fear and uncertainty" by detonating explosives "in the midst of a large concentration of people."

German prosecutors on Thursday indicted a 20-year-old Syrian refugee for allegedly planning a bomb attack.

Yamen A., whose last name was not given in line with German privacy laws, plotted an Islamist-inspired attack with the goal of "killing at least 200 people," the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe said.

The suspect was arrested in Berlin last October.

According to prosecutors, A. made the decision last July "to detonate an explosive device in Germany in the midst of a large concentration of people." It is unclear where the alleged bomb plot was to be carried out.

"It was important for him to create a climate of fear and uncertainty in the population of the Federal Republic of Germany," prosecutors said.

He is not believed to have been part of a terror cell.

Investigators said A. had acquired precursors to make the explosive TATP and other bomb-making materials. A search of his residence found bomb-making supplies.

According to the Interior Ministry, A. arrived in Germany in September 2015 and applied for asylum in February 2016. In April 2016, he was granted a three-year residency permit.

Malik F. is said to have used Facebook propaganda for the IS and to have promoted supporters. In addition, the Attorney General accuses him of being informed about the use of various chemicals in Islamist attacks as well as the construction of a silencer for firearms.

The offenses that began after the police investigation in mid-2014, were allegedly after the arrest of F. in February 2017 in the Frankfurt detention on. There he is said to have offered a fellow prisoner for the support of the IS money. Later it turned out, however, that the fellow prisoner had spent out of fear as a Muslim and is in fact Christian. According to the charges F. threatened him with death if he should give the police something about the previous contacts.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences following a raid in Nuneaton.

Specialist officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit supported by Warwickshire Police swooped on an undisclosed address in the town this morning.

They arrested a man, who has not been identified but is aged 25, on suspicion of terrorism offences after allegedly attending a terrorist training camp.

At the moment, he is being questioned at a police station in the West Midlands.

Officers are continuing to search the raided property as part of the operation, which police have been quick to say was pre-planned, intelligence-led and posed no risk to the public.

Colombia blocks ISIS linked plot to kill US diplomats

Police in Colombia have arrested a Cuban man suspected of plotting to kill American diplomats in the name of the Islamic State.

Police in Spain said Thursday they had been monitoring the online activities of the suspect, Raul Gutierrez, and that over a period of several weeks he showed signs of gradual indoctrination in radical Islam. In late February he allegedly said he had obtained an arsenal of explosives that he planned to detonate at a popular dining area in Bogota frequented by U.S. diplomats.

He was arrested Monday in the western city of Pereiera as a result of the operation between Spanish authorities, the FBI and Colombian police.

Gutierrez pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance Wednesday.

The U.S. Embassy in Colombia did not immediately comment.

American sentenced to 45 years prison for role in al Qaeda bomb attack

A U.S. citizen was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Tuesday for supporting the militant group al Qaeda and helping to prepare a 2009 car bomb attack on a U.S. military base in Afghanistan, less than the life sentence sought by prosecutors.

Muhanad Mahmoud Al Farekh, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Brian Cogan in Brooklyn federal court. Al Farekh's lawyer, David Ruhnke, said at the court hearing that Al Farekh would be appealing his conviction.

Before Cogan imposed the sentence, Ruhnke read a letter written by Al Farekh, who did not speak himself. Al Farekh did not directly address the crimes of which he was found guilty, but asked the judge to consider that young men could be misled into violence. Al Farekh said in the letter that he was now opposed to violence.

Al Farekh was found guilty by a jury in September of the charges of conspiring to murder Americans, using a weapon of mass destruction and supporting a foreign terrorist organization.

U.S. prosecutors in 2015 accused Al Farekh, who was born in Texas, of conspiring to support al Qaeda by traveling with two fellow students from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada, to Pakistan with the intention of fighting U.S. forces.

Al Farekh had helped prepare an explosive device used in a Jan. 19, 2009 attack on a U.S. Forward Operating Base Chapman in Afghanistan, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said an accomplice detonated one device, injuring multiple people including a pregnant woman, while Al Farekh's fingerprints were found on packing tape for the second device, which another accomplice carried but failed to detonate.

One of the other university students with whom Al Farekh traveled in 2007, Ferid Imam, has also been indicted, though his whereabouts are unknown.

A court in northern Greece has convicted a Syrian refugee of having been a fighter with the Islamic State group in Syria, and sentenced him to eight years' imprisonment.

The Komotini court acquitted the man Monday of murder and explosives-related charges concerning his alleged activities with the group, his lawyer said.

The 33-year-old has not been identified pending his appeal.

The man denied any link with IS, saying he had belonged to the Free Syrian Army armed opposition group.

He was arrested in October after applying for asylum in Greece, when authorities found pictures of military activity on his mobile phone.

The man entered Greece as a refugee from Turkey with his wife and two children, reaching the Aegean Sea island of Leros by boat in 2016.

Terror Charges Against German-Algerian Man Over Islamic State Links

German prosecutors say they've charged a German-Algerian dual national with supporting a terrorist organization over allegations that he aided Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq.

The federal prosecutor's office said Thursday that 32-year-old Samir K. was arrested Wednesday in Baden-Wuerttemberg after a series of searches in the southwestern state, as well as in Brandenburg, Hamburg and Lower Saxony.

Prosecutors say K., whose last name wasn't released in line with privacy laws, organized email, Telegram, Twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook accounts under aliases for four IS militants between the years 2015 and 2017.

Using the accounts, prosecutors say, the militants from Germany were able to maintain "comparative communication" with other members of IS and distribute messages on the internet.

K. is being kept in custody as the investigation continues.

Last year, during New Year's celebrations, a Daesh militant killed 39 people at a popular nightclub on the Bosporus shore. The militant was captured alive in Istanbul's Esenyurt district a few weeks later.

Amid fears that Daesh militants who fled Syria could hit Europe and Turkey, authorities have heightened crackdowns on the terrorist group with almost daily operations.

Australian 'Barbie bomber' brothers in Sydney plane plot facing death sentence in Lebanon

FOUR Australian brothers are facing a death sentence by a Lebanese military court over the "Barbie bomb" plot to explode an A380 plane with 400 on board after it left Sydney airport.

Amer Khayat, his three brothers and another Sydney relative allegedly planned to detonate bombs hidden in a Barbie doll and a meat grinder on a Dubai-bound Etihad flight on July 15 last year.

Hidden in hand luggage, the self-timed bomb inside the Barbie doll was allegedly set to detonate a second bomb inside a meat grinder, killing 400 passengers and crew somewhere over NSW.

It would have been Australia's most catastrophic terror attack, and the world's biggest airline disaster in three decades, outstripping the 239 victims who died on MH370 in 2014.

Amer Khayat is the only member of the alleged "Barbie bomb" plot in custody in Lebabon who will likely be hanged or face a firing squad, The Australian reported.

Lebanese military court judge Alaa Katib is preparing to pass the death sentence on the alleged terror cell members, including the brothers and relative in absentia.

Evidence before the military court suggests the alleged bombers were relying on a person who worked at Sydney airport to help the bombs' path through security checks before departure.

Amer Khayat is currently in a Roumieh facility in east Beirut, one of the world's most dangerous prisons where suspected Islamic terrorists are held.

Authorities detained Amer Khayat last year after the Sydneysider and dual Australian-Lebanese citizen made several trips to the Lebanese city of Tripoli, where he was to be married at his family home.

But his multiple journeys and quick divorce prompted suspicions.

When authorities questioned him, Amer Khayat allegedly revealed that he had attempted to smuggle the two bombs aboard the flight.

The plot was allegedly made in Raqqa where relatives had been fighting for Islamic state.

A third brother Tareq, an ISIS commander, is hiding in Syria.

Beirut alerted Canberra and in raids across Sydney last July, Amer's brothers Khaled, 52, and Mahmoud, 32, were arrested and charged with two counts of allegedly planning a terrorist attack.

Israeli intelligence corps claimed its "exclusive intelligence" had helped thwart the alleged attack.

Australian police investigated the fifth alleged "Barbie" plotter, but found there was not enough evidence to charge him.

However, all five men are accused in Lebanon of participating in terrorist activities, being part of a terrorist group and scheming to commit mass murder.

Judge Khatib has recommended Amer and the four alleged bombers outside Lebanon will be tried in Beirut on May 4 and sentenced to death.

The Australian government is unlikely to agree to extradite the two Khayat brothers in custody here to face potential execution in Lebanon.

Amer Khayat reportedly suffers from a mental health condition and is incarcerated in overcrowded conditions in Roumieh where 4000 inmates live in squalid conditions.

Cops detain 7 terrorists planning attacks on houses of worship

Seven suspected terrorists allegedly planning multiple attacks in the country have been detained in Sabah and Johor.

The suspects were arrested by the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division in multiple operations held between Feb 27 and March 15.

Six of the suspects arrested in Johor were members of an Islamic State (IS) cell and had planned attacks on non-Muslim houses of worship as well as the kidnapping and killing of police personnel.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the first series of arrests involved three suspects on Feb 27.

"The mastermind is a 37-year-old technician who spearheaded plans to attack houses of worship in Johor Baru. He was also actively recruiting new militants.

"The second suspect is a 49-year-old security guard and adviser to the terror cell," he said adding that the suspect was in charge of keeping the cell and its plans secret.

"He also threatened to kill any cell members who leaked the secrets.

"The third suspect, a 30-year-old security guard, was tasked with acquiring firearms from a neighbouring country.

"He also scouted several houses of worship targeted by the terror cell," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Mohd Fuzi added that the suspects planned to escape to a neighbouring country and seek refuge from a terror group there after carrying out their plans.

Umar Haque, who wanted to create an "army of children" to carry out attacks, left some of them "almost paralysed with fear".

A man who trained children as young as 11 for terrorist attacks has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 25 years.

Self-styled teacher Umar Haque, 25, was planning to use guns and a car packed with explosives to hit 30 high-profile targets including Big Ben, Heathrow Airport and the Queen's Guard.

Some of the youngsters had been "almost paralysed with fear", police said, adding that Haque was a "really dangerous individual" who could have "moved at any time".

Nine youngsters aged between 11 and 13 - assessed by a specialist social worker - suffered "flashbacks" and "nightmares".

Sentencing Haque at the Old Bailey, Mr Justice Haddon-Cave described him as "narcissistic" and a "dangerous liar", adding that he "clearly enjoys the power he wields over others".

Haque was planning to hit "multiple sites using multiple weapons".

Despite having no teaching qualifications, he had access to 250 youngsters at two east London schools and a madrassa over the course of five years.

He tried to radicalise 110 of them, police said.

The Islamic State supporter trained youngsters by role playing attacks at Ripple Road mosque in Barking, east London.

"Part of that role play was re-enacting attacking police officers," Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon said.

Haque also played IS propaganda to pupils at a fee-paying Muslim school - Lantern of Knowledge in Leyton, where he taught Islamic studies and PE between April 2015 and January 2016.

Parents at the school were said to be "horrified" when they found out.

Italian anti-terror police arrest man accused of links to Isis

A man suspected of links to terrorist group Isis was arrested in southern Italy on Tuesday, accused of using an Islamic cultural centre to spread jihadist propaganda.

Anti-terrorism police arrested the man, identified in the media as 58-year-old Abdel Rahman, an Egyptian with Italian citizenship, in the city of Foggia in Puglia.

His bank accounts were seized and the centre he ran, Al Dawa, was searched and sealed off.

Accused of apology for terrorism and association for the purpose of terrorism, Rahman is said to have praised Isis attacks on social media and shared material glorifying the terrorist group.

He is suspected of attempting to spread similar propaganda at the cultural association of which he was president, and where he was in charge of teaching religious lessons to children as young as 4 years old, according to La Repubblica. 

Secret recordings caught him telling youngsters to attack "unbelievers" with swords and bombs, the newspaper said.

The newspaper said Rahman was arrested as part of an investigation codenamed "Bad Teacher", the latest in a series of anti-terror operations in Foggia within the past year.

... The driver and his female passenger, reported to be his partner, have both been taken into police custody after the incident Varces-Allieres-et-Risset, near Grenoble.

The pair had first in been circling the barracks at around 8am this morning, with the man shouting insults and threats in Arabic at soldiers jogging outside.

They then returned and attempted to run down another group of soldiers returning from a jog, forcing them to dive into a ditch to escape unharmed.  ...

Torinossa on eilen pidätetty marokkolainen ISIS-terroristi Elmahdi Halili, joka suunnitteli useiden "yksinäisten susien" kuorma-auto- ja veitsi-iskuja. Lisäksi poliisi teki ratsioita monissa muissakin Italian kaupungeissa, kuten Milanossa ja Napolissa.

Halili on kertaalleen tuomittu pariksi vuodeksi vankeuteen vuonna 2015 ISIS-materiaalin levittelystä netissä, mutta vapautumisen jälkeen sama meno jatkui.

Anti-terror raids across Italy, suspected Isis militant arrested

Anti-terrorism police carried out searches across Italy on Wednesday morning, arresting a man in Turin who is accused of plotting attacks for the violent Islamist group Isis.

The suspect, named by Ansa as 23-year-old Elmahdi Halili, was detained in the north-western city on suspicion of "participating in the terrorist association Islamic State [Isis]".

The Moroccan-Italian is said to be the author of the first piece of Italian-language Isis propaganda.

Police believe he hoped to organize attacks in Italy using trucks and knives, and may have tried to recruit "lone wolves" to carry them out.

"It was time to intervene. We couldn't afford to wait until he identified a target to strike," said the head of Turin's special operations police squad, Carlo Ambra.

Halili is known to have contacted a number of people, both Italians and foreign nationals, some of them already known to police, in what investigators believe was an attempt to recruit them for acts of terrorism.

Police conducted a total of 13 searches as part of Wednesday's operation, raiding premises in Milan, Bergamo, Modena, Reggio Emilia and Naples.

Several other people are reported to be under investigation, accused of attempting to radicalize others online.

Halili has already been convicted of terror-related charges once before, in 2015, when he was found to have published Isis texts on the internet.

He was sentenced to two years in prison as part of a plea deal. After his release police found that he continued to publish material glorifying terrorist acts, including videos of Isis violence and its militants in Syria and Iraq, as well as playlists of speeches by infamous radical Islamists.

"He's a highly motivated individual with no intention of reforming," Ambra said.

As officers led him away on Wednesday, he reportedly shouted: "Tyrants! I'm going to prison with my head held high."
