Pelotevaikutus olisi aivan valtava.

Vielä lisää Italian terrorismipidätyksiä.

Perjantaina Fossanon kaupungissa pidätettiin 19-vuotias marokkolainen Ilyass Hadouz, jonka epäillään levittäneen runsaasti jihadistipropagandaa ja kuuluvan terroristijärjestöön.

QuoteMoroccan terror suspect held in Piedmont

A Moroccan man residing in Italy was detained by Carabinieri police in a dawn raid in the northern region of Piedmont on Friday over alleged terror links.

The operation was related to a Rome probe into the "criminal activities" of Ilyass Hadouz, a 19-year-old resident in the Piedmont town of Fossano, and suspicions he is part of a terrorist association. Investigators believe the young Moroccan conducted "intense jihadist propaganda", via a number of accounts on social media sites including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Hadouz is thought to have radicalised himself at home, via videos and extremist Islamist online chats.

"It's depressing to die of old age," he allegedly said via Facebook. "The unbelievers are set for dark days that will make their children's hair turn white". Friday's is the latest in a string of operations targeting suspected Islamist terrorists this week.

These included the arrest of five people in Rome and Latina on Thursday accused of being linked to Anis Amri, a Tunisian who carried out the 2016 Berlin Christmas-market truck attack in which 12 people were killed. Interior Minister Marco Minniti called for an additional reinforcement of security checks at crowded places "in view of the Easter holidays" at an extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Strategic Antiterrorism Analysis (CASA) on Wednesday follow the terror-linked arrests.

In an interview with La Stampa newspaper Wednesday, Minniti said "the picture of the ISIS threat remains unchanged".

Tällainen on mennyt ainakin itseltäni ohi.

Algerialainen Othman Jridi yritti ajaa autolla Pompeijissa kirkon edessä olleeseen väkijoukkoon, mutta hyökkäys pysähtyi betoniesteisiin. Jridi sanoo yrittäneensä iskua allahin nimeen.

QuoteAlgerian Illegal Migrant Arrested After Italian Church Attempted Terror Attack

A 22-year-old illegal Algerian immigrant was arrested on a charge of attempted terrorism after trying to drive a stolen car into a crowd in front of the Shrine of Pompeii Basilica, only to be stopped by concrete bollards.

The attempted attacker, 22-year-old migrant Othman Jridi, told police his motivation for the failed attack saying, "I did it in the name of Allah," Corriere del Mezzogiorno reports.

Jridi came to Italy after being expelled from France and was also told to the leave the country by the police chief of Cagliari, yet remained in in the country.

Judge Fernanda Iannone, an expert on international terrorism, agreed to allow prosecution against the failed asylum seeker to go ahead and ordered him to be put in pre-trial detention due to the severity of the crime.

The Algerian was also charged and found guilty of the two lesser offences of stealing a car and lying to public officials. According to police, after being arrested Jridi lied about his identity and gave investigators the address of one of his friends rather than his own.

When police took him to the address he gave, Jridi is said to have told his friend, "You say I live here, otherwise they will arrest me," in Arabic. Judge Iannone handed down a two and a half year sentence for the minor charges and passed on all of the information to the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office who will prosecute the terrorism charges.

QuoteDramatic moment 'ISIS' sleeper cell is busted in Russia 'while plotting attacks during the World Cup'

The secretive group called themselves the 'Krasnoyarsk jamaat' and the FSB alleged it had 'links to international terrorist organisations'

DRAMATIC footage shows FSB raids on a suspected Russian terror group just two-and-a-half months before the start of the World Cup.

The large "sleeper cell" was broken up by Vladimir Putin's security service in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk.

FSB agents smashed their way through doors and windows and nabbed alleged terrorists moments before they caught a crowded flight.

There was no immediate information on whether attacks were planned on the passenger flight or if they were for the during the footie tournament.

The FSB has stated that terrorism is the number one threat to the FIFA World Cup which opens on 14 June.

The secretive group called themselves the "Krasnoyarsk jamaat" and the FSB alleged it had "links to international terrorist organisations", and possibly ISIS.

Some 16 addresses were searched and nine alleged jihadists were detained - three organisers and six cell members.

Manuals on manufacturing explosive devices and banned religious literature was seized, according to the FSB.

The suspects are believed to have received training in unidentified foreign countries.

"Strict secrecy measures were employed in the unit," it was reported.

The group didn't use social media to talk to each other and used "non-verbal means of communication in public places", according to FSB sources.

The target of their alleged future strikes were Krasnoyarsk and other unidentified places.

The raids were carried out by the FSB with the Russian national guard and police.

The FSB said: "Searches conducted at 16 locations resulted in the seizure of prohibited religious books, and manuals on how to make an improvised bomb.

"Some of the detainees have started making confessions."

The secret service added: "The gang was in fact a sleeper unit.

"It was created to support terrorism, its propaganda and funding.

"New members were recruited in Sobornaya mosque and halal cafes (in Krasnoyarsk).

"Leaders were brainwashing supporters.

"They were asking them to unite against the infidels and promised to destroy traitors."

USA:ssa notkuva Mohammed Elshinawy on saanut 20 vuoden vankeusrangaistuksen otettuaan vastaan terrorismiin tarkoitettua rahoitusta Walesista.

QuoteUS businessman 'took payments from Welsh firm to finance Islamic State terror attack'

An American businessman took payments from a Cardiff -based firm to finance an Islamic State (Isis) terror attack in the US.

Mohammed Elshinawy, 33, has been jailed for 20 years after he admitted accepting payments to support an attack by the terror group.

An American court heard Elshinawy, of Edgewood, Maryland, received payments totalling $8,700 (about £6,200) from a Welsh company.

According to a Department of Justice news release issued on March 30 "Elshinawy conspired with others to knowingly provide material support and resources to Isis".

The statement continued: "From February 2015 through about December 11, 2015, in Maryland and elsewhere, Elshinawy conspired with others to provide material support and resources, including personnel, services (including means and methods of communication), and financial services, to Isis.

"Elshinawy and his co-conspirators utilised various methods of secret communication in order to conceal their criminal association and activities from law enforcement.

"As a part of the conspiracy Elshinawy expressed his support for an Islamic caliphate and his belief in the legitimacy of Isis.

"In addition he expressed his hope that Isis would be victorious and its enemies defeated and discussed his readiness to travel to live in the Islamic State.

"In various other conversations Elshinawy pledged his allegiance to Isis, described himself as its soldier, committed to making violent jihad, and asked that others convey his message of loyalty to Isis leadership.

(...)

Elshinawy will now serve 20 years in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release for conspiracy to support Isis, providing and attempting to provide support to Isis, terrorism financing, and making false statements in connection with a terrorism matter.

Last August FBI documents revealed Pontypridd businessman Siful Sujan financed Islamic State plots in the United States.

The 31-year-old. who left Wales for Syria in July 2014 and became a computer hacker for IS, was killed in an air strike near Raqqah in December 2015.

Following his death a Pentagon spokesman was quoted as saying the terror group had "lost a key link between networks".

Sujan was alleged to have used companies based in Wales to send military-grade surveillance equipment to Spain and to an address in Turkey close to the Syrian border and to transfer money to an Isis supporter in the US.

FBI documents revealing the links were released following a court case in Baltimore, Maryland, last year.

Operated out of an office on the Alexandra Gate business park, Tremorfa , Ibacs Electronics Ltd (Ibacs) was directed by Sujan.

Filed in a US federal court in Baltimore, the FBI documents showed Elshinawy received $3,000 on May 14, 2015, from Ibacs.

Iso-Britannian Dewsburyssa on pidätetty Savile Town -nimisellä alueella isä ja poika, joiden epäillään suunnitelleen terrori-iskua vapaa-ajankeskukseen.

Savile Townin asukkaista 98 % on "aasialaisia" eli mitä ilmeisimmin pakeja yms. ja sen kerrotaan olevan Iso-Britannian etnisesti segregoitunein alue. Tuolta on moni muukin terroristi ponnistanut, esim. Lontoon vuoden 2005 pommi-iskut tehneen ryhmän johtaja Mohammad Sidique Khan. Siellä sijaitsee myös radikaalin muslimiryhmän Tablighi Jamaatin Euroopan päämaja.

QuoteTerror Arrests in Dewsbury Muslim Enclave Home to 'Army of Darkness' Radical Group

Two men have been arrested by armed police on suspicion of a terror plot in Savile Town, a hardline Islamic enclave in Dewsbury, one of the UK's most religiously segregated areas.

The men, aged 21 and 52, have been detained on suspicion of "being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism" and detained for questioning, counter-terror police said.

"The public may have heard loud bangs at the time police entered the properties," the police statement added, explaining that the noises were linked to officers gaining entry.

The arrests were described as "pre-planned and part of a proactive, intelligence-led investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East".

There has been a recent spate of anti-Muslim letters send out to Muslim areas of the UK including Dewsbury, and last month police announced a "full and thorough investigation" into the letters that seek "to cause fear and offence among our Muslim communities".

West Yorkshire Police Superintendent Marianne Huison said after Tuesday's raid: "I understand our local communities will have concerns about this morning's police activity but I want to offer my reassurance that we will continue to serve and protect the public of West Yorkshire.

"We work very closely with our colleagues in CT Policing North East and with local partners and we will ensure we maintain these strong links in order to provide a high level of service and delivery to everyone in our community. Public safety is our utmost concern."

Savile Town is around 98 per cent "Asian" and has been described as the most segregated area of Britain.

A Deobandi school of Islam that was founded in colonial India, specifically to oppose Western culture, dominates the town, and Mohammad Sidique Khan, the leader of the group responsible for the 7 July 2005 bombings in London, grew up in the area.

The town is home to the European headquarters of the 'Army of Darkness' Tablighi Jamaat, a radical Deobandi movement which has described its mission as to save Muslims from corrupting Western and Jewish culture.

Most recently, the group has been linked to a bomber who targeted New York City last year, the London bridge attacker, and the San Bernardino shooter who struck in 2015. Tablighi Jamaat denies extremism.

QuoteCops 'foil terror plot on British leisure centre' as dad and son arrested in raids

A FATHER and son were arrested yesterday on suspicion of planning a terror attack on a leisure centre after raids on two homes.

Neighbours of the men, aged 52 and 21, said they feared bombs had gone off after hearing loud bangs as officers forced their way into the houses in Dewsbury, West Yorks, early on Tuesday.

One said: "I heard a very loud bang. I looked outside and there were armed police crouched down and more at the door and a load of smoke in the street."

A source told the Daily Mirror: "It is believed police have been investigating a plot on a leisure complex in the UK."

A North East Counter Terrorism unit spokeswoman said: "We can neither confirm nor deny any speculation about alleged targets."

Police later confirmed the noise neighbours heard had been "part of the method of entry to gain access."

The raids were on two houses 300 yards apart in Dewsbury.

The houses are a few streets from the former home of suicide bomber Talha Asmal, who blew himself up in Iraq in 2015.

Mohammad Sidique Khan, one of the 7/7 bombers, also lived in the town.

Ranskassa on pidätetty "belgialaisen jihadin kummisedäksi" kutsuttu 72-vuotias ranskalais-syyrialainen imaami Bassam Ayachi, jonka epäillään taistelleen jihadistien riveissä Syyriassa sekä lähettäneen kymmeniä musulmaanitaistelijoita ulkomaille.

Ayachi on perustanut islamilaisen kulttuurikeskuksen pahamaineiseen Molenbeekin lähiöön Brysselissä ja viranomaisilla on ollut kyseinen tyyppi tähtäimessä jo pidemmän aikaa.

QuoteFrance detains Belgian imam suspected of Syria fighting

French authorities have detained and charged a Belgian-based radical imam suspected of fighting with jihadists in Syria, sources said Wednesday.

Bassam Ayachi, 72, the founder of the Belgian Islamic Centre in Brussels' largely immigrant district of Molenbeek, was arrested on March 27 in northern France under a warrant issued by a Parisian anti-terrorism judge, one of the sources said.

Franco-Syrian Ayachi was jailed in 2009 on another terrorism-related case before being freed three years later before heading to Syria. The French sources did not say when and how he returned to Europe.

Ayachi, a French national by marriage, was cited last month in the case of a French jihadist fighter arrested after spending time first in Syria then Japan, which deported him to France on March 8.

The judge who charged the Frenchman in that case then issued a warrant for Ayachi's arrest for suspected association with terrorists in the belief the pair had been in contact in Syria.

Prosecutors did not confirm Ayachi's detention.

Ayachi helped to found the centre at Molenbeek more than 20 years ago but the down at heel district of the Belgian capital hit world headlines as a supposed hotbed of extremism after it emerged that several of the jihadists behind the November 13, 2015 attacks on Paris came from there.

Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam was arrested there in March 2016, near his family home.

In November 2009, police arrested Ayachi with a young French convert to Islam after discovering they were sheltering a group of illegal immigrants in their camper van.

Italian authorities accused the pair of being involved in a network facilitating international terrorism. After three years in jail, they were freed on appeal and returned to Belgium
.

In 2016, broadcaster France 2 broadcast a documentary, "The Father, the Son and the Jihad" on the Ayachi family.

The film notably recounted how Ayachi's son, Abdelrahman Ayachi, was killed in action while commanding an Islamist battalion affiliated with Free Syrian Army rebels against the Syrian regime.

QuoteFrance arrests cleric accused of sending fighters to Syria

A 71-year-old Islamist cleric who is believed to have helped funnel dozens of fighters to Syria and Afghanistan has been arrested in Northern France.

Bassam Ayachi, a French-Syrian citizen who moved to France in the 1960's, had spent several years in his homeland before returning to Europe. French police arrested him last week in the latest twist in a long-running battle between the veteran figure and law enforcement.

He has been named "The Godfather of Belgian Jihad" for his time founding, Belgium Islamic Centre in the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek – a heartland of extremism in western Europe. It rose to international prominence after it emerged that several of the jihadists involved in the Paris attacks of 2015 had been radicalised there. He served as the centre's imam for two decades, during which time he is believed to have facilitated the travel of dozens of radicalised Belgian recruits to Syria and Afghanistan.

In 2013, he travelled to Syria alongside his son Abdelrahman Ayachi, who was killed in 2013 fighting with the Islamist group, Suquor Al Sham in Northern Syria's Idlib province. In 2015, the older man, who had joined the same group, lost an arm in an airstrike.

He had been mentioned in some 40 cases in Belgium, but never charged or convicted. Following his arrest last week, French prosecutors charged him with conspiracy in a terrorist and criminal organisation for his time in Syria.

Mr Ayachi had previously been arrested in Italy in 2009 when he was caught with a young French-Muslim convert hiding illegal immigrants in a camper van. He was accused of involvement in a network facilitating international terrorism, though released three years later on appeal. It was shortly after this release he fled to Syria.

QuoteBulgaria to extradite Moroccan man on terror charges

A Bulgarian court has ordered the extradition of a Moroccan man wanted at home for terrorism charges over his alleged involvement with Islamic State militants.

The district court in the southern town of Haskovo said Thursday that Nofal Rashid Zahri, 35, wanted by Interpol on terrorism related charges, will be extradited to Morocco. The decision cannot be appealed.

Zahri was holding a fake Syrian passport when he was caught illegally crossing the border from Turkey on Jan. 13 with a group of migrants. The arrest warrant issued by Morocco alleges he is a "loyal member of the Islamic State militant group."

Zahri has admitted he worked for IS as an accountant, but says only to support his family.

If found guilty by a Moroccan court, he could get 20 years in prison.

QuoteKymmenen terroristia vankilaan iskusuunnitelmista Barcelonaan: Jihadistisolun johtaja oli ehdottanut "vääräuskoisen" mestaamista ja teon videoimista

Espanjalainen terrorisimirikoksia käsittelevä tuomioistuin langetti tiistaina vankeustuomiot kymmenelle henkilölle, jotka kuuluivat samaan "jihadistisoluun". Joukon kolme johtajaa saivat 12 vuoden tuomiot ja seitsemän muuta tuomittiin kahdeksaksi vuodeksi vankeuteen, espanjalaismedia kertoo. Tuomiot tulivat terroristijärjestöön kuulumisesta.

Tuomituista neljä on espanjalaisia, viisi marokkolaisia ja yksi brasilialainen. He olivat valmistautuneet tekemään terrori-iskuja Espanjassa tai liittymään terroristijärjestö Isisiin.

Hänen kotoaan löydettiin muun muassa baskien separataistijärjestö ETA:a ja Saksan äärivasemmistolaista Punaista armeijakuntaa käsittelevää kirjallisuutta.

QuoteFrance Detains Six Linked to Islamic State Killings

A French official says three men and three women have been detained in the investigation of the 2016 slaying of two police officers in their home in the name of the Islamic State group.

A judicial official said the arrests on Monday were aimed at determining the roles, if any, that the individuals may have had in the killings of the couple at their home in Magnanville, west of Paris.

The official refused to confirm French press reports that one of the women detained in the sweep in Les Yvelines — where Magnanville is located — and the Val d'Oise is herself a police officer. The official was not authorized to speak publicly.

Larossi Abballa stabbed the couple before police killed him. The couple's 3-year-old son survived.

Poliisi on pidättänyt Saksan Saarlandissa kolme syyrialaista miestä, joilla epäillään olevan yhteyksiä terroristiryhmiin. Kahden näistä epäillään kuuluneen ISISiin Syyriassa ja yhden rekrytoineen jäseniä Ahrar al-Shamille.

Kaikki kolme ovat punahilkkoja eli tulivat Saksaan turvapaikanhakijoina vuonna 2015.

QuoteGerman police arrest three terror suspects

Three Syrian men have been detained in the German state of Saarland on suspicion of terrorist links. Two are thought to have been members of the jihadi group "Islamic State" in Syria.

Three Syrians have been arrested in the western German state of Saarland after half a year of investigations into their suspected links to terrorist groups, police and state prosecutors said on Friday.

Investigators say one of the detainees had tried to recruit fighters from Germany via the internet to take part in the civil war as members of the banned extremist group Ahrar al-Sham. The group belongs to the Salafist scene and wants to establish an Islamic state in Syria based on Sharia law. The others were said to have been members of the terrorist group "Islamic State" (IS) in Syria.

Two of the men are on a list of those people German police consider to be a terrorist threat.

Investigators said, however, that there was no information of any concrete plans for an attack.

Looking at evidence

Officials said police secured large amounts of evidence in connection with the arrests, including mobile phones and computers.

The three men, who all live in the Saarlouis region, came to Germany in 2015 as refugees from Syria's civil war and applied for asylum.

The investigations into the men were triggered by an employee of a refugee center outside Saarland who reported having seen a video in which one of the men was seen with hand grenades and other combat weapons while dressed in combat uniform.

Ranskassa on menossa terrorismioikeudenkäynti viittä miestä vastaan, jotka matkustivat Syyriaan tai yrittivät rekrytä muitakin sinne. Kaikki ovat kotoisin Lunel-nimisestä eteläranskalaisesta pikkukaupungista, josta on lähtenyt Syyriaan eniten jihadisteja väkilukuun nähden. Miehet pidätettiin tammikuussa 2015 Charlie Hebdo -iskun jälkeen.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/13/world/europe/paris-trial-lunel-ihadist-cell.html (13.4.2018)

QuoteParis Trial Shows Faltering Evolution of a Jihadist Cell

Besides having gone to Syria, or having encouraged others to go, according to prosecutors, the five men who stood trial on terrorism charges this week in Paris all had one thing in common: They came from Lunel.

Whitewashed, sunstruck and Mediterranean, and hard hit by mass unemployment, Lunel, a southern town of about 25,000, earned the dubious distinction of having sent more recruits per capita to Syria than any other at the height of the jihad that washed over France. It became a symbol of the peril that France suddenly found lurking within.

The trial this week became a symbol of a different sort, underscoring how much France is still dealing with the aftermath of that peril, even as the courtroom spectacle offered a murky window on the faltering evolution of a jihadist cell.

By turns defensive, rueful and apologetic, two of the defendants who testified either covered their tracks spectacularly well or were as they appeared: struggling young men imbued with a deep sense of failure, discrimination and exclusion.

"I wanted to seem like a know-it-all," one of the defendants, Jawad Salih, 34, told the judge, Céline Ballerini. "Really, I was nothing."

The trial of the Lunel cell is one of dozens of anti-terrorist cases have been prosecuted in France in recent years — some 200 since 2012, according to Sharon Weill, an expert on terrorism trials at Sciences Po in Paris.

The French law under which the Lunel defendants are being prosecuted — "conspiracy of wrongdoers with a terrorist aim" — is "very broad," Ms. Weill said.

(...)

All of the men were arrested in January 2015 in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo killings in Paris.

"The radicalization I was in was very violent, very deep," Mr. Salih said.

The investigators had heard him telling a friend, "Those guys at Charlie Hebdo, right on," Mr. Salih said. "You cut their throats. Of course, my brother. They insulted the Prophet," he was heard saying.

"I went from a middling kind of Islam, to Salafism" — a strict orthodoxy present in many French mosques — "to this tendency of which you are speaking," said Mr. Salih, bending his head.

He spoke fluently and without hesitation, and appeared more like an aging university student than a dangerous radical.

"I'm not in the least proud of what I was in that period," Mr. Salih said. "I was astonished at what I had become. Really, I was someone who was always known for being quite helpful."

There were repeated references to close psychiatric counseling following his arrest.

"I had started to educate myself about what was going on in Syria," Mr. Salih said. "It all happened progressively."

Divorced, childless, jobless, "your life was empty, sad," one of the judges remarked. So why had he not gone to Syria himself?

Mr. Salih stood before the judge and began to snuffle quietly. "It was because of my attachment to my country," he said. "I am French. I really feel French. And so, I was torn."

QuoteTeenager sentenced for terrorism offences

One of two brothers who was part of a group planning to travel to Syria and fight alongside the terrorist organisation Daesh has been jailed at Woolwich Crown Court.

[D] Ahmed Alsyed, 20 (25.09.97) of west London was sentenced on Wednesday, 18 April to four-and-a-half years' imprisonment after pleading guilty on Thursday, 11 January to collection of information, contrary to the Terrorism Act 2000; preparation of terrorist acts and dissemination of terrorist publications, both contrary to the Terrorism Act 2006.

His brother [C] Yousif Alsyed, 18 (14.08.99) also from west London, pleaded guilty on Thursday, 11 January to preparation of terrorist acts and dissemination of terrorist publications, both contrary to the Terrorism Act 2006. He will be sentenced on a date to be confirmed.

Three of their associates had already been sentenced - including two who were given custodial sentences that totalled six years and 10 months - after pleading guilty to numerous terrorism offences.

Detectives from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command began their intelligence-led investigation into the group's activities in spring 2016. They identified that an unknown individual was using the encrypted messaging app Telegram to send messages relating their aspirations of travelling to Syria to "become a martyr".

The individual, who in one message said he was waiting for the "green light to travel", was using the moniker 'Abu Ibrahim'.

Through their enquiries, specialist digital forensics officers established that Yousif Alsyed was the individual posing as 'Abu Ibrahim'.

On 10 August 2016, police officers at Heathrow Airport stopped the Alsyed brothers under schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 after they arrived on a flight from Egypt, where they had been holidaying.

Detectives seized their mobile phones and analysed them, recovering a significant quantity of Islamic extremist propaganda material. They also recovered Telegram conversations between the brothers and an individual in Yemen discussing plans for travelling to Libya or Syria for the purpose of joining Daesh.

Libanonin viranomaiset ottivat Khayatin kiinni tämän tehtyä useita reissuja maahan. Terrorisuunnitelma paljastui kuulusteluissa.

QuoteSuspected Sydney plane bomb plot ringleader and Australian IS terrorist captured in Iraq

An Islamic State (IS) commander suspected of hatching a plan to blow up a flight from Sydney last year and an Australian IS fighter allegedly connected to the country's most notorious terror cell have been captured in Iraq.

Senior Australian officials have told the ABC that Islamic State commander Tarek Khayat and his Australian relative, Ahmed Merhi, were detained in Iraq earlier this year, but their arrests have been shrouded in secrecy because of diplomatic sensitivities surrounding the cases.

The two men kept in close contact with some of Australia's most notorious terrorism suspects from their positions in Syria, but appear to have shifted to Iraq when IS was routed from its territory in both countries last year.

Mr Khayat, a Lebanese citizen, is allegedly responsible for one of the world's most serious airline bomb plots, which came so close to carnage in the skies above Australia last year that it left the global intelligence community shaken and Australian counter-terrorism authorities in damage control.

The Australian Federal Police say Mr Khayat directed his Sydney-based brothers, Khaled and Mahmoud Khayat, to blow up an Etihad flight from Sydney to Abu Dhabi on July 15 last year with 400 passengers and crew on board.

The plot went undetected by Australian authorities and was only foiled by chance by an Etihad check-in officer at Sydney Airport, according to a court dossier prepared by the Lebanese military prosecutor on the case and obtained by the ABC.

Defence Minister Marise Payne confirmed an Australian had been arrested in Iraq, but would not comment on the details of the arrest.

"We are very clear that we expect those who have joined the conflict, and those who are in breach of Australian laws — and, indeed, international law — to be dealt with according to justice," she said.

Senator Payne said the Government was yet to seek extradition.

Lebanese prosecutors allege the sophisticated plot was hatched by Mr Khayat from inside Islamic State's former Syrian stronghold of Raqqa to exact revenge on the west for the deaths of two of his teenage sons in the Syrian war months earlier.

It is alleged Mr Khayat connected two of his Sydney-based brothers, Khaled and Mahmoud Khayat, to a senior Islamic State controller in Syria who instructed them on how to make sophisticated self-timed bombs.

According to the Lebanese tribunal documents, the bombs were hidden in a meat grinder and a Barbie doll which were put in the hand luggage of a third Sydney-based brother, Amer Khayat, who was travelling to Lebanon via Abu Dhabi to visit family.

Dr Seth Jones, a former senior Pentagon adviser who briefs international counter-terrorism agencies on the threat posed by Islamic State, said the flow of foreign fighters to the Middle East remains significant.

"There are a number of Australians as well as other westerners still in Iraq and Syria," he said.

While Australian authorities can decide to seek Mr Merhi's extradition in order to face charges, Tarek Khayat is more likely to be tried in Iraq. Mr Khayat is a citizen of Lebanon, which rarely seeks the extradition of terror suspects.

"I think the other step that Australia must take is to think through extradition and ultimately prosecution and whether that would take place in Australia or in a third country depending on citizenship," Dr Jones said.

If the men do face the Iraqi courts, there are concerns that as IS militants they would not get a fair trial, Jacinta Carroll director of national security policy at the ANU said.

Floridalainen Harlem Suarez postaili nettiin kasapäin ISIS-propagandaa ja hankki heinäkuussa 2015 pommin kahdelta agentilta, joiden hän luuli olevan ISISin kannattajia. Suunnitelmana oli räjäyttää reppuun kätketty pommi jollain Florida Keys -saarten rannoista.

Suarez tuomittiin elinkautiseen vankeusrangaistukseen.

QuoteKeys bomb plotter Suarez gets life in prison

Harlem Suarez, the 25-year-old convicted of buying a bomb and plotting to blow up a Florida Keys beach in allegiance to the Islamic State, deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.

"The offense is such a serious offense that people need to know that you can't do that," Judge Jose Martinez said in U.S. District Court in Key West after an hour-long sentencing hearing. "He was talking the talk. He was walking the walk and was in possession of what he thought was a weapon of mass destruction."

Suarez has the right to appeal but the federal system has no option of parole. Suarez was sentenced to life for attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and an additional 20 years, to be served at the same time, for "providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization."

After declaring Suarez "inept" and not even a decent speaker of his native Spanish language, Martinez called the young man's actions in buying what he thought was a bomb after amassing two handguns and an AR-15 rifle "just nutty."

"It's too much," Martinez said as Suarez sat quietly beside two language interpreters and his parents watched from the back of the courtroom.

"I do think he could have done this," the judge said after saying he had considered giving Suarez 50 years in prison.

In July 2015, Suarez, who lived with his parents in a Stock Island apartment just north of Key West, met with undercover federal agents he believed were ISIS sympathizers and purchased a backpack bomb. The bomb was inert but Suarez didn't know that, prosecutors pointed out. A jury took 47 minutes to find him guilty as charged earlier this year.

"He posted a ton of pro-ISIS propaganda including graphic videos and photographs," Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Anton said during the hearing. "When told the shrapnel would rip through people faster than bullets, he smiled and said, 'Great, great.' This defendant has shown no remorse. He has demonstrated no sense of responsibility."

Russian secret services swooped on two cities hosting the World Cup and arrested suspected terrorists in armed raids.

Seven suspects accused of being in touch with a terrorist recruiter were targeted in St Petersburg - close to where the England team will be based for the competition.

And in the Rostov-on-Don region the leader of an alleged ISIS cell detonated an explosive device and died while being detained.

Three others were arrested.

A dramatic law enforcement video shows the raid in St Petersburg.

Several suspects were wearing just underwear when they were held by a team including a rapid reaction Interior Ministry force and FSB security service agents.

Two 21-year-old men from central Asia were charged with preparations for participation in a terrorist organisation's activity in the city, said law enforcement sources.

Investigators will apply for the others to be held pending a probe.

None of the detained were named.

The group is accused of communicating with a terrorist recruiter using the Telegram messenger app which Russia is in the process of blocking.

They were expected to be sent for training for terrorist attacks, said officials.

Earlier in the Rostov-on-Don region - just 290 miles from Volgograd, where England will play their first qualifying game against Tunisia on June 18 - an alleged ISIS cell was ambushed by FSB officers and police.

"The cell's leader detonated an explosive device and died while being detained, but three other perpetrators were apprehended," said a FSB statement.

A spokesman added: "The Federal Security Service (FSB) has exposed a clandestine cell of the Islamic State international terrorist organisation - outlawed in Russia - whose members were following orders by IS emissaries based in Syria."

They were "planning to use firearms and improvised explosive devices to carry out high-impact terrorist attacks in the Rostov region."

Firearms, a homemade explosive device and munitions were seized from the three detained members of the IS cell, as well as means of communication and electronic data storage devices containing terrorist propaganda materials.

Bosnialais-serbialainen jihadisti Semir Mujovic suunnitteli iskua Amsterdamin punaisten lyhtyjen alueelle Casa Rosso -nimiseen mestaan.

QuoteBelgian called off attack for IS on the Red Light District

A 22-year-old man from the Belgian town of Zonhoven is suspected of making plans for an attack against sex club Casa Rosso. the erotic theater is considered one of the biggest attractions on the Amsterdam ramparts.

The suspect with Bosnian-Serbian roots, Semir Mujovic, was thrown into cuffs last Saturday after his messages were intercepted. In it there was an attack against Casa Rosso, a real monument in the red light district of Amsterdam. That 'erotic theater', as the case that has existed since 1969 itself, offers not only striptease but also sex acts. There is room for 180 spectators and besides the usual audience on the ramparts, there are also often companies on bachelor's party.

Action

"It is not yet clear whether the suspect was planning to take the action himself or to encourage someone else to do so," according to a source involved in the investigation. "But he explicitly declared himself ready to die for the jihad." However, signs that he already had explosives or weapons would not exist. Mujovic had only been released since January, after being sentenced last year because he helped with the translation and propagation of Islamic State propaganda.

Yet he was already active on closed jihadist channels on the messaging app Telegram. There he was mainly in contact with kindred spirits from the Netherlands. Whether it was someone who brought him to the plan for an attack in the Netherlands is not clear. not. But the target does match his horror for the unrest in the West. He danced with Omar Mateen, the American follower of Islamic State who killed 49 people two years ago with a shooting in a gay club in Orlando.

Mujovic has also been on the OCAD list for at least three years as someone who could leave for Syria. That suspicion was explicitly confirmed in November 2015 because there were signs that he was saving to pay the trip. After the bloody terror of November 13, 2015 in the French capital Paris, he expressed his praise. The fact that 130 people were killed in these attacks did not prevent him from regretting that the massacre remained "limited in scope."

In another case in the Belgian Limburg surrounding terrorism, severe sentences were pronounced yesterday. Nine Syria fighters and runners from the Maaseik region got up to ten years in prison because they sent at least fifteen people for the jihad.

Pivot figure

The pivotal figure was Khalid Bouloudo (43), a man of Moroccan descent who was convicted in 2006 for terrorism. He was then part of a Belgian cell within the 'Groupe Islamique Combattant Marocain', which in 2004 caused a bloodshed with 193 deaths in the Spanish capital Madrid.

Bouloudo himself did not manage to leave for Syria, but the investigation showed that he was in contact with a senior IS officer in the war zone. It is about Abdelkader Hakimi (52), one of his co-defendants on the trial in 2006. That left Belgium in 2013 to the Syrian front and when the US Army reported in December 2015 that it had killed Hakimi with the aid of a drone, it was called. who is an important member of the section within IS that plans attacks in the West.

QuoteISIS terrorist plotted bombing of local security service HQ in Russia, killed by FSB

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has killed an ISIS terrorist who plotted an attack on its local HQ and an administrative building in Stavropol. Agents recovered a firearm, IED components, and an ISIS flag from the scene.

The FSB operatives attempted to arrest the suspected terrorist in the southern Russian region of Stavropol on Saturday. The perpetrator, however, resisted and engaged in a firefight with law enforcement, receiving a fatal wound, the FSB press service said.

The terrorist plotted an attack on a local office of the FSB and a Stavropol government building, "using firearms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs)."

The agents recovered a sawed-off 16-gauge shotgun, a large knife, IED components, and an Islamic State flag (IS, formerly ISIS). A written pledge of allegiance to IS and plans regarding the government and FSB HQ buildings were also found at the scene.

The FSB did not provide any details on the terrorist's identity, stating only that an investigation was underway.

In a separate development, a large-scale counter-terrorism operation was staged in the town of Derbent, in the Russian republic of Dagestan. A group of militants was reportedly blocked by FSB and police operatives in a residential building, while other reports suggested that another militant group was intercepted while travelling across Derbent in a car. Nine militants were killed during the operation, Russia's Anti-terrorism committee confirmed. One special operative was slightly wounded during the gun battle as well.

The counter-terrorism operations came only a few days after another major terrorist cell was busted by the FSB in Rostov Region. Three IS-linked terrorists, who plotted gun and bomb attacks, were captured. The leader of the cell, however, blew himself up with a homemade bomb when law enforcement tried to detain him.

QuoteNew Jersey Man Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison for Conspiracy to Provide Material Support to ISIS

Samuel Rahamin Topaz, 24, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, was sentenced today to eight years in prison, to be followed by a lifetime of supervised release, for conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization.

The announcement was made by Assistant Attorney General for the National Security John C. Demers, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito for the District of New Jersey and Special Agent in Charge Gregory W. Ehrie of the FBI's Newark, New Jersey Division.  Saadeh previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton to an information charging him with one count of conspiring with others to provide services and personnel to ISIS.  Judge Wigenton imposed the sentence today in federal court.

According to documents filed in this and related cases, and statements made in court:

Topaz admitted that prior to his arrest by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force on June 17, 2015, he planned to travel overseas to join ISIS and saved money for that purpose.  Topaz discussed plans to join ISIS with Nader Saadeh, Alaa Saadeh and Munther Omar Saleh, and he admitted that at various times each of them indicated they wanted to join ISIS.  Topaz also admitted that he and the other defendants watched ISIS-related videos, some of which depicted the execution of non-Muslims and individuals regarded as apostates from Islam.

On May 5, 2015, Nader Saadeh departed the United States with plans to travel overseas for the purpose of joining ISIS as part of the conspiracy.  Topaz admitted that he and others planned to travel overseas separately, meet up with Nader Saadeh, and then travel together to join ISIS. After Nader Saadeh left the United States, Topaz met with Munther Omar Saleh and contacted Alaa Saadeh to discuss those plans.

Topaz admitted knowing that ISIS was a designated foreign terrorist organization, which he knew to be taking over territory overseas, expelling non-Muslims from their homes, and executing individuals who did not obey ISIS' commands.

Nader and Alaa Saadeh both pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to ISIS.  Alaa Saadeh was sentenced to 15 years in prison on May 10, 2016.  Nader Saadeh was sentenced to 10 years in prison on April 30.  Saleh and Mumuni both pleaded guilty to related charges brought by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York.  Saleh was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Feb. 6.  Mumuni was sentenced to 17 years in prison on April 26.

Assistant Attorney General Demers and U.S. Attorney Carpenito credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Ehrie in Newark, and the Newark Joint Terrorism Task Force with the investigation.  The JTTF is comprised of agents and officers from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Investigations, Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, New Jersey State Police, Paterson Police Department, and NYPD, among other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dennis C. Carletta and Francisco J. Navarro of the District of New Jersey, with assistance from Trial Attorneys Justin Sher and Robert Sander of the National Security Division's Counterterrorism Section.

QuoteTexas teen charged with plotting IS-inspired shooting at mall

A 17-year-old boy in Plano, Texas, has been arrested and charged with plotting a mass shooting inspired by the Islamic State at a shopping mall, law enforcement agencies said on Wednesday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and police said high-school student Matin Azizi-Yarand had planned the attack for mid-May and had sought to recruit others for the shooting. Authorities also said he had drafted a "Message to America" justifying his planned attack.

The FBI and local authorities in Collin County, Texas, said that at the time of his arrest, Azizi-Yarand had sent "more than $1,400 to others" to buy weapons and tactical gear.

In an affidavit, investigators said Azizi-Yarand began communicating online with an FBI "confidential human source" last December about his desire to travel abroad or to conduct an attack in the United States.

He compared himself to other recent "lone wolf" attackers, investigators said. "Look at all the other lone wolves// What training did they have yet they simply killed the kuffar?" Azizi-Yarand told the FBI source, using the Arabic word for "disbelievers," according to the affidavit.

Prosecutors say Azizi-Yarand told the FBI source: "The brothers in Europe the brother in Spain the brother in New York? Had no military training//it's not about numbers it's about getting a message across to these taghut countries," using an Islamic term denoting a focus of worship other than Allah.

Later in the discussion, investigators say, Azizi-Yarand told the FBI source he wanted "to put America in the state that Europe is in which is having to have soldiers deployed in streets."

In other conversations, investigators say, Azizi-Yarand talked about his interest in traveling to Pakistan and then crossing into Afghanistan where he could join the Islamic State. At another point, he told the FBI source he knew a person in India who had information on jihadi activity in Libya, and who invited Azizi-Yarand to travel there with him.

In one conversation, Azizi-Yarand said that he had converted to Islam, in part because of "fighting."

"When I first became Muslim fighting was a big part of why I came to this religion," he said. "I saw men facing so many tribulations but remained steadfast and believed in Allah. That's one of the Core things that led me to convert seeing the strength the Muslims had."

In numerous online conversations, investigators said, Azizi-Yarand shared multiple forms of Islamic State propaganda. At another point, he sent the FBI source a document authored by one of the 1999 shooters at Columbine High School in Colorado containing detailed instructions for building pipe bombs.

The suspect also discussed various possible targets for a domestic U.S. attack, including a school. Later still, Azizi-Yarand discussed with an undercover FBI employee the possibility of attacking a shopping mall during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and at one point sent the FBI employee three pictures of a mall near Plano called the Stonebriar Centre.
