QuoteSomething interesting is happening in Russia.  The recent murder of Givi is attracting A LOT of attention from the main media outlets, much more than any of the other murders of Novorussian commanders.  Furthermore, a majority of the key people invited to express their opinion generally seem to agree on a number of conclusions:
1.Poroshenko is pretty much gone and finished.
2.The Ukronazis have all but officially declared Minsk-2 dead.
3.The Ukronazis have all but officially declared that they are at war with Russia
4.The Ukronazis don't want any negotiated solution
5.The Ukronazis have now decided that an military attack on Novorussia is the only solution

Interestingly, the actual amount of Ukronazi artillery shelling has actually gone down, very significantly, during the last 48 hours, and yet by all reports the Novorussians remain in a state of pre-war.  If the purpose of the murder of "Givi" was to demoralize the Novorussians then it achieved the exact opposite effect: the Novorussians are seething with anger.

[Sidebar: this time around those who criticized me for writing that the murder of "Motorola" is the symptom of a major Novorussian problem and that such a murder could not have happened without local accomplices are keeping a low profile this time around.  This is not due so much to some sense of guilt for being so blind, but to the fact that in Russia and Novorussia the issue of local accomplices is now openly mentioned.  Good – better late than never.  If a recognition that the Novorussian security and counter-intelligence services are in acute need of FSB help can save even a single live, say the one of Zakharchenio (who is now openly threatened by the Ukronazis as being the "next one"), then such a painful admission is well worth making]

Interestingly, the Novorussians also seem supremely confident.  This is rather surprising considering that the Ukronazi forces vastly outnumber them (from 2:1 up to 4:1 depending on how you count).  In interviews Novorussian commanders and frontline combatants all say that while the Ukronazis did use the past months to reequip and retrain, this will not be enough to make a difference.

Members of the Russian Duma have publicly declared that they are fed up with Kiev and that if the Ukronazis attack the Voentorg and Northern Wind spigot will be fully opened.  At least one source reported that a large number of Cossacks had already crossed the border and were deployed inside the DNR/LNR.

Finally, one more theory being regularly mentioned is that the reason why Trump is not telling the Ukronazis to cool it and step back (assuming that this is why Trump tells them, which remains to be proven) is that he wants to them attack and fail and then blame them for rejecting the Minsk-2 Agreement.  This is an interesting theory.  For one, I am not so sure that the Americans did not tell the Ukies to cool it – after all the shelling has dramatically decreased.  This might also be a case of projecting the logic of the Kiev junta on the Americans.  It is well known that Poroshenko loves to send the Nazis death squads (known as the "Dobrobat" or volunteer battalions) to the front lines to have the Russians kill them instead of having to do it himself.  According to this theory, this is a win-win strategy for Poroshenko: he sends the "Dobrobats" to the frontline – either they win and the credit goes to him or they lose (so far, that is what they have been doing) and he gets his most dangerous political foes killed by the Novorussians.  That makes them into martyrs of the "heavenly hundred", Glory to the Ukraine, Glory to the heroes, etc. etc. and Poroshenko can mobilize around that.  Maybe.  Seems a plausible theory to me.

What is sure is that the opposition to Poroshenko (Liashko, Tymoshenko, Semenchenko, etc.) has gone completely mental and that they are pushing for an escalation be it by declaring a state of war in the Ukraine or by backing further Ukronazi attacks against Novorussians.  As for the murder of Givi, it was welcomed by the entire Ukrainian political scene which rejoiced at the murder and even organized opinion polls to see whom the people wanted murdered next.  The only exception to this was, believe it or not, Nadezhda Savchenko (yes, yes, the "Ukrainian Joan of Arc" and "hope of the Ukrainian nation") who accused Poroshenko of trying to unleash a massacre in the Donbass.  The Urkonazis are outraged and the Russians are dumbfounded by Savchenko's political 180.  As for the Novorussians, they position is hyper-pragmatic: "she is a murderer and we despise her, but we will work with her if she wants to work towards peace or even towards exchanges of prisoners".

Yesterday I was listening to a Ukronazi politicians saying that the Russian media is preparing the Russian people for a Russian intervention in the Donbass.  Well, I would not quite formulate it as he has, but I generally agree with his feeling.  While it is not "the Kremlin" who is directing anybody, the general mood in Russia seems to be one of profound disgust, irritation and frustration with the junta in Kiev.  And while I categorically exclude any large scale overt military intervention in the Donbass, I also see that the theory of a Russian peace-enforcement operation is openly floated in Moscow and often discussed.  This, however, would require one of two things to happen first:
1.a Ukrainian attack on Russian, as opposed to Novorussian, forces somewhere
2.a UNSC Resolution authorizing such a peace enforcement operation

With Trump in the White House, there is at least a theoretical possibility that the UNSC might authorize such an operation, especially is that then places upon Russia the burden of re-building Novorussia.  That, in fact, is something which neither Putin, nor most Russians, want.  They are afraid of being tricked into taking Ukrainian territory under Russian control only to find out, as international law clearly mandates, that any occupying force is responsible for the administration of the territory under its control.  The Russians feel that they are not the ones who created this bloody mess and that they therefore ought not to be the ones paying to fix it.  They also know that the comparatively small Russian economy simply cannot shoulder such a financial burden.

There is a distinct possibility that 2017 will see a fundamental and crucial transformation of the war in the Ukraine.  For one thing, whether the final Ukronazi attack every materializes or not, if it does it will be the last "hurray" of a decaying and dying Ukraine.  Whether with or without direct Russian assistance, I predict that the Ukronazis will be comprehensively defeated.  Once the military component is removed, by one way or another, the central question will become "who pays for the mess", with both the USA and Russia pointing their fingers are Europe in general and at Germany especially.  If the final Urkonazis attack never materializes, then the regime will most probably implode internally at which point all key players will have so step in and agree on plan to rebuilt at least the very basic part of the Ukrainian society.  Europe will have no choice but to accept yet another huge wave of refugees.

As for the Russians, it appears that their position is now as follows: the only option the regime in Kiev is to abide by the Minsk-2 Agreement.  That, of course, would mean a "soft suicide" for the Urkonazi regime.  If not, then a "hard suicide",  including a possible limited Russian intervention or the recognition of the independence of the DNR/LNR by Moscow becomes a distinct possibility.  Either way, the Russian/Novorussian patience appears to have reached its limit.

QuoteUkraine's leader warns of power cuts

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko warned Thursday that nationalist protesters blocking a railway to the coal-rich Russian-backed separatist east could cause power outages across the country and job losses as a result.

Ultranationalists have put a stop to a railway line since the start of the year between the coal-producing east and the rest of Ukraine to protest against Kiev trading with the rebels.

Ukraine has declared a state of emergency in the energy sector over the blockade.

Poroshenko called it a "destabilising factor" for the war-scarred and cash-strapped former Soviet state.

The pro-Western Ukrainian leader warned in a speech that the coal delivery stoppage would cause several cities and parts of the capital to "be left without heating".

He said the protest could cost Ukraine "300,000 jobs" because factories will grind to a halt without the required power.

He later told an emergency National Security and Defence Council meeting that Ukraine would temporarily raise its nuclear power reliance to nearly 60 percent from the current 47 to reduce its dependence on coal.

"I am pleased to report that we are sharply raising the share of nuclear energy in our energy balance," he said in a statement.

The blockade has also drawn expressions of concern from the European Union on Wednesday and the United States on Thursday.

"We are concerned by the current disruption to the coal supply from the non-government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Lugansk and its potential impact on Ukraine's energy system, the Ukrainian economy, and the Ukrainian people," the US embassy in Kiev said in a statement.

- Trading with the foe -

The activists blocking the shipments believe Ukraine should not be trading with its foe and that the insurgents are using the freight trains to shuttle weapons and fighters to flashpoints in the war.

Kiev buys a specific type of coal produced only in the eastern self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic to fuel the power plants that provide the country's electricity.

The trade has gone on even as Kiev and the separatists are locked in a 34-month conflict that has claimed more than 10,000 lives.

Ukraine's army and police said that three of its soldiers and one civilian were killed in a new uptick of violence in the war zone.

Energy Minister Igor Nasalyk warned that Ukraine was preparing for a month of possible rolling blackouts and urged consumers to sharply curtail their electricity use.

The country has been beset by problems ranging from a war it blames on Russia to a complete lack of control of its vital industrial east in which rebels have set up their own fiefdoms.

Yet Poroshenko is walking on thin ice because direct condemnation of the protests risks further angering the ultranationalists and turning them against Kiev.

The protesters on Thursday vowed to continue their action.

"All the threats by the corrupt authorities only confirm that we are on the right path and give us strength and inspiration," they said in a statement.

Organisers later announced setting up their first road block to prevent Ukraine and the militias from trading using alternative routes.

QuoteA New Crisis Hits Ukraine: Turmoil at the Eurovision Song Contest

Ukrainian team organizing the event this week quit en masse amid allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

A team of 21 producers, who submitted a letter of resignation, said they had been "completely blocked" from the decision making process and claimed work had "stopped for almost two months" after a new executive was appointed to oversee preparations.

Questions remain about whether public tenders were properly offered, or offered at all, for the construction of the contest's soundstage and visitors' village, and the country's anticorruption body ordered a halt on ticket sales this month after vendors complained that a distributor had not been selected in a transparent way.

The producers' resignation elicited a swift reaction from the European Broadcasting Union, which founded the contest, and Ukraine's prime minister, who promised the show would go on.

Moskovan sisäpiiriin kuulunut poliitikkopariskunta loikkasi Ukrainaan.

Venäjältä Ukrainaan loikanneita entisiä parlamenttiedustajia Denis Voronenkovia ja Maria Maksakovaa haastatellut The Daily Beast -lehti pitää kaksikkoa osana Kremlin entistä sisäpiiriä. Nyt he ovat loikkareita, jotka voivat paljastaa Venäjän johdon salaisuuksia.

Kaksikolle on myönnetty turvapaikka Ukrainasta.

Voronenkov on entinen tiedustelupalvelu FSB:n upseeri.

– Janukovitsh kutsui Kremlin lähettämään armeijan Ukrainaan tappamaan ukrainalaisia. Hän on rikollinen ja jos Putin tukee häntä, minä en tue Putinia.

Maidan dream still burns in beleaguered Ukraine

Three years after carnage in Kiev, war and corruption have not killed hope

Serhiy shifts his weight on his crutch, takes a deep breath, and starts to explain how Ukraine has changed since its pro-western revolution ended in carnage on Kiev's Maidan square three years ago.

"Almost everything is worse," says the former soldier, who was wounded fighting Russian-led separatists near their stronghold of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

"People are too poor to pay their rent and bills. As a veteran with invalid status I get about 1,700 hryvnia (€59), but soon they'll stop paying it and I can't find any work. But I'm not just talking about soldiers – for a grandmother on a pension of 1,200 hryvnia (€42) it's even worse."

Serhiy was among hundreds of servicemen and their supporters who attended a concert near Maidan this weekend, to pay tribute to soldiers killed in February 2015 during a heavy defeat at the strategic eastern town of Debaltseve.

Many of the concertgoers described Ukraine's tortuous recent years – from the Maidan protests and the ousting of Ukraine's Kremlin-backed president Viktor Yanukovich, through Russia's annexation of Crimea and fomenting of a separatist conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk regions – as part of the same, grinding war.

For them and most other Ukrainians, the main enemies of Maidan are still to be vanquished: the "oligarchs" who control the nation's politics and business; corrupt officials, judges and prosecutors who do their bidding; and a Russia whose leader, Vladimir Putin, cannot allow a pro-western, reformist Ukraine to prosper.

"We all supported Maidan, many of us were on the square, and we still support what it stood for," says a former soldier from 12th battalion of Ukraine's territorial defence force, who would only give his nom de guerre, Volk (Wolf).

"But we see oligarchs and thieves still in power, and that's not what we want."

"We don't have any trust in our so-called leaders – none of them have earned the right to be called leaders."

Trumpin hallinnon emämunaus

Mediat ovat kiinnittäneet Suomessa päähuomionsa presidentti Trumpin perättömiin väitteisiin Ruotsissa muka tapahtuneesta terrori-iskusta. Niiden varjoon on aihettomasti jäänyt New York Timesin eilen julkaisema todella sensaatiomainen uutinen turvallisuusneuvonantaja Michael T. Flynnille viikkoa ennen tämän eroa luovutetusta Venäjän talouspakotteiden lopettamista koskevasta salaisesta suunnitelmasta.

Trumpin rooli suunnitelman laatimisessa

Ensinnäkin presidentti Putinilla on ilmeisesti oman asemansa turvaamiseksi kova tarve päästä mahdollisimman nopeasti eroon Venäjää vastaan suunnatuista talouspakotteista. Toiseksi presidentti Trumpilla on ollut kova tarve auttaa venäläistä virkaveljeään tuon tavoitteen saavuttamisessa. Kolmanneksi ongelman äärimmäisen kömpelö ratkaisuyritys huutaa taivaaseen saakka presidentti Trumpin ja hänen tiiminsä kyvyttömyyttä selvitä maan johtamisen vaatimista tehtävistä.

Ukrainan entinen pääministeri on viimeinkin selvittänyt kuka ampui mielenosoittajia.
QuoteThree years ago this week, dozens of people, protesters and police alike, were gunned down in Kiev by mysterious snipers, leading to intensified pressure against authorities and culminating in the Maidan coup. Three years on, ex-Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has compiled his take on the snipers' identity. But Kiev is trying to destroy the evidence.

In a detailed post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, complete with photo and video evidence, Azarov dropped a bombshell, writing that "today we, and investigators in Kiev as well, have reliable information about the fact that the murders on the Maidan were carried out by special groups of snipers from Georgia, the Baltic countries and Poland, under the guidance of instructors from France and Germany."

These groups, Azarov said, "were provided with cover and diversionary actions by shooters from the 'Maidan Self-Defense' group under the direction of [Andriy] Parubiy and [Serhiy] Pashinsky," the former now serving as speaker of Ukraine's parliament, and the latter an MP and former interim head of the presidential administration.

Going into more detail, Azarov explained that "the Georgian group, consisting of 10 people, was placed in the Conservatory building [which overlooks Maidan Square]. The identities of three of them have been confirmed by photographs taken by Ukrainian Security Forces staff, and it has been established that they are Georgian nationals. On February 20, [2014] this group divided into two. One of them fired from the Conservatory Building, the other from the Hotel Ukraine Building."

"However, after three years, even the biased investigators have proven unable to prove the unprovable. 'The blood of the innocent people who died is on the conscience of the criminals who seized power in Ukraine', and this is an indisputable fact," Azarov added.

QuoteTeen 'Suicide Games' Send Shudders Through Russian-Speaking World
Quote
At a hearing on February 16 of Russia's Public Chamber to discuss proposed legislation increasing punishments for inciting suicide, members heard allegations that Blue Whale had been created by "Ukrainian nationalists" as "a professionally prepared campaign that has caught up at least 2 million youths," according to a report of the meeting in the daily Kommersant.

Quote"I want to play the game," an RFE/RL correspondent wrote after creating a fake profile for a 15-year-old girl on the popular Russian social-media site VKontakte.

"Are you sure? There is no way back," responded a so-called curator of the Blue Whale game.

"Yes. What does that mean -- no way back?"

"You can't leave the game once you begin."

"I'm ready." Then the curator explained the rules.

"You carry out each task diligently, and no one must know about it. When you finish a task, you send me a photo. And at the end of the game, you die. Are you ready?"

"And if I want to get out?"

"I have all your information. They will come after you."

The first task assigned to RFE/RL's imaginary Internet user is to scratch the symbol "F58" into her arm. A photoshopped image was sent, but the curator stopped responding.

Over the course of about a week, RFE/RL managed to contact more than a dozen self-proclaimed current and former players and several curators.

"I am your personal whale," another curator wrote, explaining that the game consisted of 50 tasks spread over 50 days. "I will help you take the game all the way to the end. The last day is the end of the game. If you die, you win. If you don't, we will help you. Are you ready?"

QuoteOver the last six months or so, dozens of suicides and attempted suicides in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan have been provisionally linked to the game, although on closer inspection none of them has been found to have a conclusive tie.
Quote
Concern about the game was piqued by a much-criticized article in Novaya Gazeta in May that claimed, among other things and seemingly without justification, that the "vast majority" of the roughly 130 youth suicides in Russia between November 2015 and April 2016 were tied to the Blue Whale phenomenon. The paper published an equally alarming follow-up article on February 16.

Ukraina oli jo ennen sotaa säälittävä maa, minkä väestö oli jyrkässä laskukierteessä. En kyllä ymmärrä, miksi kukaan viitsii Ukrainassa sotia maansa puolesta, kun kuitenkin kaikki nuoret haaveilee maan jättämistä kävi miten kävi.

QuoteUkraine's population decreased by about 170,000 people in 2016, the government reported last month, underscoring a demographic trend that began after the country declared its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, and which threatens to derail the country's political and economic development.

By the end of 2016, Ukraine's population had decreased by about 9.5 million from its 1993 peak of 52,244,100—a net 18 percent drop

The State Statistics Service of Ukraine reported the leading cause of death in 2016 was heart disease (68 percent of deaths), followed by cancer (18 percent of deaths).

According to faculty at the Kyiv National Economic University, the country's persistently high mortality rate is due to low-quality health care, an increase in the number of epidemic diseases, and the widespread abuse of alcohol and drugs.

Also, the life expectancy difference of 10 years between Ukrainian men and women (66 and 76 years, respectively) is the fifth-biggest among all countries in the world, highlighting how lifestyle choices among Ukrainian men, particularly their proneness to alcoholism, contributes to a high mortality rate.

According to a 2012 UNICEF study, 50.7 percent of all married Ukrainian women did not want a child in the next two years. The average ideal family size in Ukraine, according to the report, was 1.9 children.

As a point of comparison, according to a 2013 Gallup poll, Americans said the ideal number of children per family was 2.6.

And for those Ukrainians wishing to start families, many would choose to do so in another country if they could.

Rampant corruption, years of war, and economic and political instability have collectively fostered a pessimistic attitude among many young Ukrainians about their country's future. Consequently, many young Ukrainians, millennials in particular, have moved abroad in search of work, or would choose to do so if they had the opportunity.

"I'd say 80 percent of my friends are already abroad or plan to move abroad," 21-year-old Valentyn Onyshchenko told The Daily Signal.

This correspondent asked a group of high school students in Kyiv if they would rather stay in Ukraine or move abroad. Only one student out of 17 preferred to live in Ukraine—he wanted to be a priest.

According to a 2015 survey jointly funded by the United Nations and the Ukrainian government, 55 percent of Ukrainians aged 14 to 35 said they would choose to move abroad temporarily, or for good.

From 2009 to 2014, the number of Ukrainian students studying abroad increased by 79 percent.

Ukrainian births have continued to decline. There were more than 365,000 births in Ukraine in 2016, down from about 412,000 in 2015, and 466,000 in 2014.

"Since 1991, there have been always more deaths than births in Ukraine," Fedets said.

Ukraine's abortion and marriage rates have both declined since the Soviet Union's breakup, underscoring Ukrainians' reluctance to start families and have children.

Ukraine's marriage rate decreased from 9.3 marriages per 1,000 people in 1990 to 7.8 marriages per 1,000 people in 2015, according to government data.

The reduction in Ukraine's abortion rate has been more dramatic.

In 1990, according to the World Health Organization, Ukraine registered about 1,550 abortions for every 1,000 births—about 7.8 times higher than the average rate that year among countries that would ultimately comprise the European Union in 1993.

The head of the Nikolaev Regional State Administration Alexei Savchenko on the occasion of the termination of powers of the deputies wrote a speech in which he called the area "65% separatist."

It was published in the closed parliamentary group BPP [Bloc Petro Poroshenko -- tr].

In his statement Savchenko describes the conditions in which he has to work, and claims that 65% of the population are "latent separatists."

"Today, I run one of the most important and problematic areas of our state. In it, 65% are latent separatists, and the majority of the population speaks in Russian. The Nikolaev region has always voted for the Party of Regions, and then - for the opposition bloc. Even Kherson is more pro-Ukrainian! " said Savchenko.

According to him, this situation has arisen as a result of total industrial ruin: many large companies have gone bankrupt, business is in decline, the infrastructure is destroyed.

QuoteA December survey by the Kiev Internation Institute of Sociology, Ukraine's top pollster, found that 51 percent of respondents in the country's south, and 57 percent in the Kiev-controlled but restive east continue to regard the revolution that brought the current Kiev authorities to power as an "illegal armed coup." In the more nationalist west of the country, and mixed central regions, from 80 percent to 60 percent regard the Maidan revolt as a "popular revolution."

The long-awaited meeting between Petro Poroshenko and Donald Trump, expected to take place late last month, never materialized. QuoteRecap of the "ugly truth about Novorossiya" from Anton Raevsky ("Nemets"), ex fighter and officer on the "Novorossiya"/anti-Ukraine side. He's a "Russian nationalist" - more specifically he describes himself as a monarchist and imperialist, although he also seems to have some racial and anti-semitic views.

Anton Raevsky became famous early on, I've seen his photos posted in the Ukraine conflict -related threads. He is an example of anti-Putin nationalists who fought in the Ukraine conflict on the anti-Ukraine side. Eventually he had become disillusioned with the "Novorossiya" cause and deserted it. This text will be my attempt of a review and summary of his claims and beliefs. He has recorded many videos explaining his reasons and beliefs, and gave a number of large, detailed interviews in Russian, and so far I've not seen much of it translated properly, so I want to correct that. I'll include some direct translation of his monologues or interview answers, but also a condensed summary of his statements from the longer interviews in the interests of saving time. The latter may have some differences in wording, but I've tried to stay as faithful as possible to what he is saying in his videos ("video blogging") and interviews. The high level summary:
Raevsky hates Putin and Putin's FSB and consider scum scum, anti-Russian, murderers.
He now thinks the idea of "Novorossiya", as it was "advertised", was a lure for nationalists by FSB, nationalists and Right-wing patriots falling into the trap can easily be destroyed there.
He predicted the assassinations of commanders and that Ukrainians are going to blamed.
LNR and DNR - worthless banana republics not capable of anything good. They are completely dependent financially and militarily on Russia, and alone are nothing.
In reality everything that counts is ran by people from Russia, such as commanders and officers who "officially don't exist", such officers and Russian military presence use locals as a cover. In the army, locals are mostly asocial element, scum, worthless drunks and drug users, their discipline and capabilities are very poor.
Much of destruction in Donbass is to be blamed on both sides, it's a complete lie to blame only the Ukrainians.
He feels cheated by "Strelkov"/Girkin and FSB into Putin's scheme. Hurray-patriotic organizations like Barkashov's RNU and others are serving as lures into this pointless killing, bought by Kremlin.
Raevsky says that he changed his mind and doesn't support either side in the war now.

My translator's comments, and occasional personal commentary and explanations, will be marked {in this fashion} to differentiate them from direct speech. When summarizing his ideas as a synopsis, I'll usually just try to explain them in the most concise and comprehensive way possible, while staying as true to the meaning and import of Raevsky's statements as I can. I'll also add some links (e.g. to Wikipedia articles) that provide further info, when it might be helpful.

August 2014. Reaction to the ousting of "Strelkov" from "Novorossiya" and alleged FSB murders.
"Strelkov", who, at the time, had an iconic status for the "nationalistic"/Right-wing supporters of "Novorossiya" was ousted on 14 August, 2014 and then fled Donbass/east Ukraine.

Quote:
Today I've decided, that I am not going back to {the war in} Donbass. I've no desire to fight for Putin's stooges, for "NovoEdrosiya" {derogatory term for "Novorossiya"}. I've fulfilled my duty [...] Basically, now all the Right-leaning, Russian nationalists will be forced to hastily flee the territory of DNR {Donetsk People's Republic}, because not only they'll be ousted from the leadership positions, and from the army, the state structures entirely, but it's also possible that somethng might happen to them that will be similar to the story I wrote about, when ten Russian volunteers were killed by members of the DNR army "by mistake". That was all done "in the FSB line of work" {the wording, context and tone in the video imply that Raevsky blames these deaths on FSB as a deliberate assassination}. In other words here, on the territory of Russian Federation, FSB can't imprison some person, lacks the data-base {on him}... cannot charge this man with anything, cannot eliminate him. But there beyond the border they can liquidate any dissident, undesirable to the Putin's regime. Afterwards, it will be, of course, all written off as something that the Ukrainian army troops did, or some National Guard {Natsionalna hvardiya of Ukraine}. But, in fact, it's done not by Ukrainian soldiers, but the FSB.

Sources: 1 2 3. Some of the commanders killed since then and officially blamed on Ukrainians: Alexandr Bednov ("Batman"), Evgeny Ishchenko ("Baby"), Alexey Mozgovoy, Pavel Dremov, Arseny Pavlov ("Motorola"), Mikhail Tolstykh ("Givi") - from this list.

October 2014. Reaction to the "repressions against Strelkovites".

Synopsis by me:
Judeo-masons grabbed the power in Novorossiya. Many fighters from the Strelkov's period ("Strelkovites") are held captive in the basements, beaten, tortured. Today they are robbed of all heavy armaments and vehicles. This will keep happening, and with ever-more-radical methods. Maybe some have already been killed, liquidated, and it all blamed on the "Ukrops" - the Kiev's soldiers, the Ukrainian army. Tomorrow they'll get to Motorola, to Mozgovoy. So, don't be surprised, if tomorrow you learn, that Mozgovoy died "a hero's death". Or that very same Motorola. That's all coming.

Raevsky implores the "Strelkovites", particularly the commanders like "Motorola", to rise up and turn their weapons on the authorities of LNR and DNR such as Plotnitsky, "before it's too late".
Mozgovoy, indeed, died a "hero's death" on 23 May 2015 - officially blamed on the Ukrainians, but this official version is almost universally not believed. "Motorola" was assassinated on 16 October 2016, reasons and culprits are debated.

March 2016. The interview to "Svoboda".

Quote:
- Despite that you consider Putin an enemy of the people, you went to Donbass to fight for Putin, after all that's his war. Perhaps, you were even ready to give your life, after all you got wounded.

I changed my mind in regard to the war in the south-east of Ukraine (after all, no matter how you look at it, it is the territory of the south-east of Ukraine). I believe that the war was unleashed by politicians and intelligence agencies of both countries, not only the Russian Federation. Girkin-"Strelkov" {Igor Girkin} was fulfilling the order of Moscow. That there was such activity in Slavyansk {the early Slavyansk phase of the war}, this nice label {facade}, revival of the tsarist autocracy, orthodoxy, and everything else - it was all merely a lure {trap} for Russian patriots of the right-wing, to bring them into the ranks, lure them to the south-east of Ukraine, in this fratricidal war grind them all down into mince-meat. It was a pure trap organized by the secret services. So my attitude towards this war has completely changed. Not that I began to take a pro-Ukrainian position, no, I'm more neutral, I'm not for that and not for this side right now. I believe that we need to stop this war, so that there would be peace. I am for peace.

Synopsis of other claims and ideas in the interview:

RNU of Barkashov - totalitarian, heretical, pseudo-Christian sect, where Barkashov simply uses the young people for his purposes, playing on their nationalist feelings. {it was also one of the groups recruiting or, as Raevsky puts it "luring", nationalists from Russia to the war in Ukraine}
Raevsky is sure that various explosions and acts of terror, officially attributed to Chechens, were actually false flag operations of Putin's FSB.
Raevsky became disillusioned with Igor Girkin / "Strelkov", now thinks of him as a chekist, because of Girkin's recent associations with reds / leftists and general disillusionment with "Novorossiya" cause.
During his latest "hitch" at Donbass, Raevsky was shocked by rampant alcoholism everywhere, use of drugs and awful discipline. Officers, from the locals and from Russian Federation, are also affected. According to Raevsky, this causes murders of civilians, looting, deserting and other problems. It's impossible to maintain the discipline even for the"advisors" from Russia, because the current ranks of these insurgent "armies" are a-social element, scum. Many are ex-convicts.
To think that these people are fighting for some ideas or would achieve some victories over Kiev, on their own, is ridiculous.
All units are effectively commanded by "grey cardinals" by career officers from Russia (who officially "aren't there"), the local "people's commanders", whose image Putin's media creates, are just a cover for the Russian army regulars - those people are the ones actually commanding, running things and achieving real military objectives.
Opinion and attitude of many locals towards the armies of "people's republics" has changed strongly for the worse.
Raevsky is sure that Mozgovoy, Bednov ("Batman"), Dremov were killed by "their own side" and blamed on Ukrainians, he believes it's the work of FSB.
Hurray-patriotic organizations like Barkashov's RNU, Limonov's Natsbols, Russian imperial movement are bought by Kremlin and are luring people to Donbass, to get killed or maimed.
LNR and DNR are banana republics, that are living completely at the expense of Russian Federation, their own economy is close to negligible. Best people, the educated, have fled, asocial element and pensionaires have stayed. Everything is ruined.
It wasn't just Ukrainian artillery that has turned everything to rubble - that's a complete lie {related: Who, really, is shelling Donbass - kungurov}. Raevsky says it's artillery from both sides, it's all two-sided, and, knowing what kind of people are in the "people's republics" armies, he's not surprised that they are hitting residential sectors, industrial complexes of Donbass. Raevsky has no idea how to fix all this destruction - it will require decades to restore things.
Source (full interview in Russian)

February 2016. The interview to Denis Kazansky / vlada.io.

My synopsis of what Raevsky says in the interview:

Raevsky about the crucial difference between pro/anti Ukraine nationalists: "I am imperialist, they are anti-imperialists - that's the fundamental difference". (a valid observation)
Even back in Slavyansk fighting, there was Russian military presence. It's a fairy tale that there was just a "local militia". They are creating this beautiful legend, that poorly trained, poorly armed "militia-men" are holding back the Ukrainian army. There was a Russian military presence - it's a fact. They were bringing down the helicopters using some kind of weapon systems Raevsky has never seen.
Raevsky: it's only now that I understand "Strelkov" was a chekist. He was saying nice-sounding words: fighting for the restoration of monarchy and so on. They needed a precedent. A lure for patriots, that there is fighting for "Orthodox Christianity". FSB just played on this. Created a pretty image.
Units like "Vostok" were cowards and preferred looting and marauding, robbing local businesses to the frontline fighting.
The inflow of idealists, the passionate, the nationalists has dried up. Good people don't join the armies of the "people's republics". The convicts who are unemployable, asocial people, alcoholics and drug users - that's who joins. And even after that there is a deficit of people. If Ukrainian army advances at the area of the front Raevsky was at, he believes it will fall in hours. Half will run immediately. {of course, the reaction from the Russian army regulars that would follow is another question, but it's not discussed in the interview}
The idea of "Novorossiya" is completely screwed. There won't be a large advance - the people's republics' army is demoralized and not ready. Negative attitude to Russian Federation growing. Everybody is sick of war.
Raevsky: Dremov and Mozogovoy were killed on FSB orders.

June 7th, 2015. "Lack of national ideology" - an interesting blog post.
Raevsky speculates about some of the reasons for the failures of "Novorossiya".

Quote:
Thinking aloud.
June 7th, 2015

Ethnic Russians don't have a national ideology.

"Crimea is ours", "the grandfathers have fought" {cult of the Soviet victory} and Putin - this is the ideology of "Sovki" {"mentally Soviet", people of Soviet mentality and identity{. About what Novorossiya can we talk about, when there is no national ideology in erefiya {a negatively colored term for Russian Federation or, simply, modern "Russia"}. And where would it even come from? Novorossiya will undoubtedly lose, or more precisely have already lost to Ukraine. I have a strongly negative opinion of the admirers of Bandera {he is referring to the Ukrainian nationalists who often romantize Bandera, although that's somewhat of a stereotype}, but I am forced to admit, that in the fire of this civil war a national Ukraine is being born, and it's already not just a few Western regions of it {he is referring to the outdated concept that the Ukrainian nationalism is localized in a small area in the West of Ukraine and the rest are "pro Russian" or fence-sitters easily converted to such}.

What national ideology can we, Russian nationalists, give to the ethnic Russian people of Donbass-Novorossiya {Donbass - the area in east Ukraine partially taken over by the anti-Ukraine insurgency} ? Propaganda built on nothing but just hatred towards ethnic Ukrainians, vengefulness and fairy-tales about the bright "Soviet future" {he is referring to the sovietophilia, Soviet mentality, desire to make the future a return to that "good past" - sentiments widespread in Donbass} - this is not an ethnic Russian national ideology. This is the ideology of Kremlin, or more precisely, the Jews.

Russia, or more exactly erefiya, is doomed. If ethnic Russian nationalism is not there to confront {or oppose, as an alternative} the ethnic Ukrainian nationalism, then Surkov {Vladislav Surkov, allegedly the Kremlin's overseer of the "pro Russia" insurgents in Ukraine} & co won't even need to destroy Novorossiya. The USSR 2.0 will destroy itself. And the {bigger} problem is, after {losing} Donbass will come the turn of Crimea, and already Transnistria {Transnistria aka PMR - part of Moldova currently held by "pro Russia" forces} is ripening up for something similar. And later the breakup of erefiya.

[...]

Strelkov and his team made the first steps on the way of creating ethnic Russian National state - Novorossiya, on the positions of Orthodox Christianity and Monarchy, but they were forced out. Other more intractable activists of the Russian world were either shot or deprived of any influence, for example, Pavel Gubarev {Gubarev}. Those who survived and currently are is in RF {Russian Federation}, unfavorable fate awaits them too: who will be framed and imprisoned, or killed by the "Ukrainian commandos" {he implies assassination like that of Mozgovoy, officially blamed on the Ukrainians; indeed, something like that happened to some people and there were other "peculiar deaths" and imprisonments of such people in Russia}. Do you remember Rokhlin, Troshev, Budanov {he is referring to the deaths of other renown military leaders and heroes like Lev Rokhlin and Yuri Budanov} ... ? And Strelkov is still alive. The question: will Strelkov end up like Budanov or Kvachkov? And, believe me, better this way than to end up like Lebed {Alexander Lebed}.

QuoteUkraine Has Lost Billions On The Trade Agreement With The EU In Year One

The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) between Ukraine and the European Union, which came into force on 1 January 2016, was aimed at helping the East European economy to recover; however, the results after the first year fell far short of Ukraine's expectations. The former Soviet Republic lost €2.2 billion more than it lost in 2015 on trade with the EU. While imports from the EU have surged, exports have barely grown.

As Polish media reports, the European Union has flooded Ukraine with goods, which is contrary to the aim of the free trade agreement: the document assumed the asymmetric openness of the markets in Ukraine's favour.

According to the Eurostat data, EU's exports to Ukraine grew in 2016 by 17.6%, from €14bn to €16.5bn, whereas Ukraine's exports to the EU increased by 1.9%, i.e. from €12.8bn to €13bn. As a result, Ukraine's trade deficit with the EU has surged from €1.2bn to €3.43bn!

It seems that the Ukrainian economy was absolutely unprepared, especially in times of war in Donbass, to compete with Western enterprises. The GEFIRA team explains the problem of the destruction of Ukraine's economy in the latest GEFIRA Bulletin. It is going to take years until Ukrainian businesses, particularly small- and medium-sized, are prepared to switch from Russian to Western orientation and it is going to be very costly if not lethal to Ukrainians.

QuoteOn March 16, representatives of the political party Svoboda, Right Sector, and the National Corpus (i.e. the Azov batallion's political wing) gathered to sign a National Manifesto.

We, Ukrainian nationalists, understanding the catastrophic state of our country and with the goal of acquiring and developing a great national state, capable of securing the prosperous existence of Ukrainians and a future for Ukrainian children, are uniting our efforts on the basis of fundamental, unambiguous, and unchanging principles and goals, and thereby offer a concrete plan of action that we can embark upon straight away for the achievement of these goals.
1.Define as a priority of state policy the realization of Ukraine's national interests.
2.New vector of Ukrainian geopolitics – orientation not to the West or the East, but the creation of a new European unity – that of the Balto-Black Sea Union.
3.Recognize the Russian Federation as an aggressor state... break diplomatic relations, blockade the occupied territories, end Russian business activities in Ukraine, sanction Russian capital, goods, and services.
4.Recognize [the LDNR] as occupied territories and develop a real plan to liberate Crimea and Donbass. Immediately embark upon economic, informational, and reconaissance-sabotage actions in furtherance of these goals.
5.Return the right to recreate a nuclear weapons capability as a foundation of national security in light of the violation of the Budapest Memorandum.
6.Create a high-tech professional contract army, and a reserve army, based on the territorial principle.
7.Legalize the right to armed defense and gun ownership.
8.Eliminate hostile propaganda from the Ukrainian information space. Cultivate traditional values, strengthen national consciousness. The Ukrainian language should be the only state language.
9.Carry out a real lustration... strengthen criminal punishments for corruption.
10.Introduce a workable procedure for impeaching the President and make a law about the recall of deputies of all levels and judges.
11.Introduce elections for judges and certain categories of local bureaucrats.
12.Liquidate the oligarchic system: Return subsoil ownership to the state, as well as strategic objects and enterprises, illegally privatized after 1991; liquidate private monopolities, end capital flight to offshore havens.
13.Guarantee the labor rights of Ukrainians and create conditions for an effective labor union movement.
14.Create a new socially just tax code, which will encourage the development of small and medium businesses.
15.Encourage the development of national atomic and alternative energy as a foundation of energy independence.
16.Ban the trade of Ukrainian strategic resources, such as agricultural lands.
17.Introduce real self-government by creating self-sufficient territorial units with a large degree of authority.
18.Rationalize immigration law, including effective provisions against illegal immigration and the creation of conditions for the return of Ukrainians to the motherland.
19.Restore positive dynamics in the national demographics; strengthen the traditional family, strengthen national-patriotic education, and place our bets on the young generation.
20.Encourage the creation of a single local church based in Kiev.

Ukraina on pikkuhiljaa menossa siihen suuntaan, että siellä ei ole paljon sijaa maan venäjänkielisellä "vähemmistöllä" - joten Putin saanee paljon slaavilaisia maahanmuuttajia ennen pitkää. Tosin onhan Putin jo tähän asti saanut 2,5 miljoonaa maahanmuuttajaa Ukrainasta sodan alettua + 2 miljoonaa Krimistä + 3 miljoonaa Donbassin kapinallisten alueillta = 7,5 miljoonaa.
