...Käräjillä jutun voitti äiti, joka perusteluissaan sanoi nimenneen tyttärensä nimen sisältävän merkityksen ja lapsen ulkonäön mukaan. Oikeuden päätöksen mukaan tyttö myös tunnisti äidin antaman nimen omakseen.

Isä vastusti nimeä ja väitti sitä islamin uskontoa pilkkaavaksi. Tämä ei mennyt läpi. Miehen lohdutukseksi tytölle jäi kuitenkin isän sukunimi.

The father is 43 years of age being born in 1968 in Kuwait of Kuwaiti ethnicity.
The mother is 35 years of age being born in 1976 in Canberra of, I understand,
Lebanese ethnicity. Both parties adhere to the Islamic faith, being Sunni
Muslims, the father clearly asserting to be far more religiously devout than the
mother with the mother unashamedly conceding that to be correct.

The father is married. He was married to his wife long before he met the
mother.

Her
mother has named her A and her father has named her H.

At this point, it is also relevant to point out that although the mother clearly
prefers the name '[A]' by itself, she nevertheless proposes the compromise that
the child's name be registered in the hyphenated form of '[A-H]' and has asked
for that order. The father vehemently opposes that. Similarly, he vehemently
opposes the child's name being registered in the reverse hyphenated name of
'[H-A]. In any event, the mother does not want it to be that form of a
hyphenated name either. For the father, it is to be '[H]' alone or nothing. For
the mother, it is to be '[A]' alone or, by way of compromise with the father,
'[A-H].

The mother says that she has looked up the meaning of H and that its
origins are in North Africa and it means "sparkling" or "twinkling".

The father asserts that the word "[A]" means "princess" most particularly when
it is followed by another name. His stated objection to the child being called
"[A]" or "[A-H]" or "[H-A]" is that it is blasphemous in respect of the Islamic
religion.

On the 9 of February 2011 I contacted the Islamic Council of Queensland
to inquire if the name [A] is unislamic and blasphemous. I was referred to
my local Immam [ B ] at [R] Mosque. He advised me that there is absolutely
nothing about the name [A] that is offensive to Islam. I asked him to
provide the court with an affidavit.

I am drawn to the conclusion that the father's
opposition to the name "[A]" is yet another example of his determination to
control the mother and her parenting of these two children.
