Police identify London stabbing suspect

A terror suspect who was shot dead on London Bridge Friday has been identified as 28-year-old Usman Khan, Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said in a statement.

Khan had been residing in the Staffordshire area in England. Police are carrying out a search at an address in the county of Staffordshire.

Khan was known to authorities having been convicted in 2012 for terrorism offenses and released from prison in December 2018 on license, according to the statement.

Migrants Arrested for Alleged ISIS Salutes at Strasbourg Christmas Market

A year after the terror attack at the Christmas market in Strasbourg, police have arrested two Chechens at the market for making signs of allegiance to the Islamic State.

The men allegedly took selfies at the market with their index fingers pointed to the sky, a gesture often used by Islamic State members to represent Allah as the one true god. The acts were witnessed by police who then arrested the suspects, broadcaster RTL reports.

Police confirmed they charged the pair with apologising for terrorism, saying that one of the men lived in Strasbourg while the other lived outside of the Alsace region.

Asia migrant smuggling gang busted

Italian police on Tuesday busted an Asian migrant smuggling gang that brought thousands of Pakistanis, Indians and Bangledshis into Italy and other European countries illegally.

The gang was broken up by Turin flying squad police helped by French border police and Europol.

In Italy, eight arrests were made and two other detention orders, while one arrest was made in France.

It is estimated that in two years the organisation managed to move more than 1,000 immigrants with profits of over one million euros.

Dozens of Nigerian Mafia Arrested in Europe-Wide Operation

Police in several European countries have arrested dozens of suspected Nigerian mafia members as the crime organisation spreads across Italy and the wider continent.

Authorities in Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Malta conducted the international operation, which was directed at two major Nigerian mafia groups. Police accuse the gangs of people-trafficking, drug trafficking, extortion, and prostitution, Agenzia Giornalistica Italia reports.

According to the news service, arrests in Italy took place across the country in Puglia, Sicily, Campania, Calabria, Lazio, Abruzzo, Marche, Emilia Romagna, and Veneto.

The District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Bari Prosecutor's Office has described the Nigerian mafia as "tribal and ruthless". It noted that the Nigerians have managed to expand significantly in northern Italy and even in the south and Sicily, where they now compete with traditional mafia groups.

The two main groups in Italy are the Supreme Eye and the Black Ax, the latter of which is also becoming more influential in countries like Sweden, according to a report from October.

Nigerians have lived in Italy since at least the 1980s, and the first arrest of a Nigerian for drug dealing occurred in 1987. Since then, the Nigerian mafia has rapidly grown and established major presences in areas like Palermo and Cagliari.

The mafia is also known to use "juju" — a form of voodoo practised in Nigeria to better control drug traffickers and prostitutes, most of whom are imported into Europe from Africa using counterfeit documents or illegal migration.

Stop and Search -valtuudet, jolloin poliisi määrää tarkkarajaisen maantieteellisen alueen sekä aikaikkunan, jonka aikana kyseisellä alueella poliisi voi tutkia myös ilman kohtuullista epäilystä kenet tahansa ja minkä tahansa ajoneuvon etsiäkseen toisen vahingoittamiseen soveltuvia esineitä ja aineita. Nämä voivat olla mitä tahansa ampuma- ja teräaseista syövyttäviin happoihin ja astaloihin, jotka luokitellaan nk. offensive weapon -kategoriaan. Normaalitilassa poliisilla pitää olla perusteltu epäily voidakseen suorittaa henkilökatsastuksen. Section 60 voidaan julistaa joko jo tapahtuneen vakavan väkivallanteon jälkeen lisäuhrien välttämiseksi tai sitten jo ennalta, jos poliisi uskoo vakavan väkivallanteon olevan odotettavissa. Määräyksen voi antaa poliisipäällystöön (ACPO) kuuluva poliisimies.

Police have released a list of their most wanted suspects

As part of their crackdown on violence crime, the police released the details of these 19 people on Wednesday (December 11).

Their details have been shared online and they will also be displayed on the sides of vans and driven across London, with the hope that they will be recognised and can then be located.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "We want to hear from anyone who has information as to the whereabouts of these people so we can locate them as part of our effort to tackle violent and priority crime in the capital."

Wanted people are individuals who are being searched for in connection with crime. They might be suspected of committing or being involved in a specific incident, they might have breached bail or probation conditions or not turned up for court for example and the police need to find them.

A former beauty contestant and the ex-girlfriend of a professional footballer has been found guilty of funding terrorism.

Amaani Noor, 21, was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday of donating $45 USD, around £35, to organisation The Merciful Hands via Paypal on May 23 last year knowing it would or may be used for the purposes of terrorism.

Noor, who the court heard had married an Islamist fighter online and planned to join him in Syria, sobbed in the dock as she was found guilty by a majority of 10 to 2 following three hours and 38 minutes of deliberation.

The former Miss Teen GB semi-finalist, who wore a black hijab and black coat with faux fur collar, claimed she gave the money believing it would be used to buy food for women and children in Syria.

She began discussing extremist organisations with people she met on the internet following a failed marriage to a Muslim preacher, who she had married at her home in Cinema Drive, Wavertree, and had planned to move to Saudi Arabia with.

The former performing arts student accepted some of the views she expressed in them appeared "harder" than views of so-called Islamic State (IS).

The court heard she married her husband, who communicated with her on the Telegram app using the name Hakim My Love, in a video-link ceremony on her 20th birthday.

She said he described himself as an "independent" fighter in Syria and she believed he was fighting for Islam and Sharia law.

She had planned to join him, she said, and on the day police searched her house had tickets booked to Turkey.

If the heart has been punctured, Metcalf told me, they may need to call a surgeon down to open up right then and there – around two minutes of cutting, a scalpel for the incision then scissors to get through the muscle wall. "Then the heart's right there," said Metcalf.

Part of what makes St Mary's major trauma centre unique is its lack of indecision. "You can normally save them if you're quick to get the chest open," said Metcalf. "Most things aren't time dependent, but with bleeding and trauma it is. Stabbings of chests are critical in terms of timing. Everything is quick and fast. There's no hanging around."

In the old system, said Metcalf, a lot of stabbing patients used to die "because no one has the skill or inclination to open up their chest. You've got to have the training to do that. You only need a scalpel and scissors, but it takes balls."

Yet the wound to Oscar November's rear left was losing too much blood to merely be patched, even temporarily, and so was filled with medical foam – a technique first used in warzones and now coopted for the war against knife crime.

"A lot of what we do now has been learnt from Afghanistan, managing limbs and blood. It is like a military campaign, really," said Metcalf. Many of his trauma doctors now have direct warzone backgrounds. "My old professor used to say you always need a good war to learn your trade as a trauma surgeon."

This time last year, working the 12-hour weekend shifts, Metcalf was getting around 15 stabbings a night. Recently, he said, the police have clamped down by using stop and search, so it's calmed down a little. But a few most days is average. As victims get younger, I'm told, trauma units are also seeing more in the mornings and in the mid afternoon: when children are walking to and returning from school.

The majority of stabbings remains gang-related, but there are exceptions. The worst, Metcalf said, occurred a few years ago, when two youths on mopeds went around mugging then stabbing people, seemingly for fun. "That was terrible. I was doing trauma that night. I must have had 50 [victims]... all stabbings. They were going around and basically at the drop of a hat just slashing and stabbing people really badly. And it wasn't even like, 'Give me your phone' and you fight them. It was really demoniacal what they were doing. Three an hour of bad ones, all over the place, just innocent people being stabbed in the street.

Metcalf has seen his fair share of horrific injuries, the kind that don't require scans to tell the doctors what's wrong: the time someone arrived with the top of their skull taken off by a samurai sword, for instance; or the person from the traveller community who had been grabbed and his arms and legs sawn off as he watched.

The worst in terms of potential arterial damage are so-called "zombie knives" (machetes essentially). They were banned in 2016 but injuries from them continue to show up in Metcalf's trauma room. "A lot more of the wounds now are far more ferocious," he said, "and the zombie knives are terrible. Those big knives, I mean, they're just horrific."

The very worst are neck slashings – "They can kill someone so easily" – yet even here St Mary's has had success in saving lives. One of Metcalf's first cases after setting up the new trauma centre was a police officer whose throat had been slashed in Ealing, West London.

But the gangs, he said, "are getting wise" to the advanced pinhole procedures that leave little mark. "They like to leave a stigmata from the stab. So what we're seeing now is a 'shanking' in the buttock. And the reason they do that is they want to rupture the sphincter muscles of the bum hole. Because it's a very complex muscular system in the rectum."

"Yes, the wounds have got worse," Metcalf told me, "more targeted to cause harm, to cause long-term disability. It's terrible really." Stabbing in the rectum, I'm told, is not only popular for the humiliation: in a crowd, stabbing from below means you don't expose yourself as much to being stabbed back.

Security was beefed up a few years ago after the gang violence from outside increasingly began to spill in. One stabbing would see the victim of a retaliation stabbing wheeled in not long after. Often, two more from the same fight would find themselves in the same trauma room. Sometimes, Metcalf told me, "hundreds congregate. It's really scary for staff."

And so, the older, old-school security guards, hangovers from the previous era of A&E ("They were a bit like Dad's Army," Metcalf said), were phased out and "big, beefy guys" were introduced. "They're great because they punch first and ask questions later," said Metcalf.

Even in surgery, security is required. Some gang members have been known to go looking for their victims in the wards with knives. Others, while they're being operated on. "We had that recently," Metcalf said. "Someone tried to get into the operating theatre to finish someone off." Sometimes, gang members will walk straight into the ward and ask, "Where is he?"

A HOMELESS ALGERIAN national has been jailed for the oral rape of a drunk man he found lying unconscious on the ground after a night out drinking with friends.

Brahim Maddi (36) pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to sexual assault and oral rape at a place in Dublin on a date earlier this year.

Maddi went up to the victim and took €5 from his back pocket. He rubbed the man's buttocks through his clothes, then lay on top of him and began to rub himself on the man.

He began masturbating and then left. He came back a number of times and on the fourth occasion he orally raped the victim.

They found the victim lying face down, unresponsive but breathing. He was brought to hospital. The court heard that when he woke up his trousers were down and his behind was sore.

Sixteen men including a police officer have been charged with historical sex offences against children aged between 13 and 16.
West Yorkshire PC Amjad Ditta, also known as Amjad Hussain, 35, has been charged with sexual touching.

He and 15 other men are charged with offences against three girls in the Halifax area, dating from 2006 to 2009.
The allegations include several counts of rape, sexual assault, supplying drugs and trafficking.

In the aftermath of the attacks on 9/11, Newsweek reported that three of the hijackers had the addresses on their driver's licenses listed as being at NAS Pensacola. Two police officers have been killed after two Islamic terrorists launched a New Year's Eve attack in Russia.

Mikail Miziyev, 18, and Akhmed Imagozhev, 22, attacked a police checkpoint in Magan, near the border with Georgia, shortly before the clocks struck midnight.

Zelemkhan Kokorkhoev, 34, a married father of four, died after being run over by a Lada Granta driven by the two men and then stabbed.

His partner, officer Zurab Daurbekov, was then attacked and stabbed to death.

CCTV captured the moment the men launched their attack, speeding towards Kokorkhoev as he stood on the sidewalk before striking him.

The men can then be seen jumping out of their car and running towards a nearby police patrol car where Daurbekov is sitting.

The officer is pulled out of his vehicle and then stabbed to death as he lies on the pavement nearby.
