LONDON (AP) — Details about what prosecutors have called one of Britain's largest-ever modern day slavery rings have emerged with the conviction of eight people originally from Poland.

Prosecutors say more than 400 victims were forced to work for minuscule wages while their masters earned some 2 million pounds ($2.5 million) and lived a luxurious lifestyle. Reporting restrictions were lifted Friday, allowing details to be published.

The group preyed on the homeless, former convicts and alcoholics in Poland and lured them to Britain with false promises of well-paid work. Some ended up being paid less than $1 for a day's work and were held in squalid conditions.

Five men and three women originally from Poland have been convicted of modern day slavery offenses and money laundering.

Jurors in two separate trials at Birmingham Crown Court heard testimony from more than 90 victims, with indications that at least another 350 had been trafficked by the criminal gang.

Syyrialaiskaksikko raiskasi ja ryösti tanskalaisia ilotyttöjä

Tanskassa on ollut kesän mittaan outoja ryöstöjä ja rikoksia, jotka ovat kohdistuneet maan suurimpien kaupunkien bordelleihin. Kaikissa tapauksissa toimintatapa on ollut sama ja poliisilla oli alusta pitäen ollut epäily, että liikkeellä olisi sarjasellainen.
Henkilö on menossa asiakkaana sisälle "liiketilaan". Oven auettua sisään liiketilaan tunkeutuukin kaksi miestä, jotka ryöstävät, raiskaavat ja pahoinpitelevät näitä maailman vanhinta ammattia harjoittavia naisia.

Esimerkkitapauksessa henkilö pääsi Aarhusissa sijaitsevan bordellin "ovisulun" läpi.  Samalla ovenavauksella sisään astui ryöstäjä-raiskaaja-kaksikko. He ruiskuttivat pippurisumutetta ilotyttöjen silmille ja puukolla uhaten raiskasivat ja ryöstivät naiset.

Lopulta kävi kuitenkin huono tuuri ja poliisi yhytti kaksikon miltei rysän päältä. Televalvontatiedot myös liittivät kaksikon muihinkin tekopaikkoihin. Aiemmin ryöstetyistä bordelleista viedyt korut olivat edelleen kaksikon hallussa. Myös varastettuja puhelimia löytyi kaksikon hallusta. Århusin ja Kööpenhaminan poliisit lähtevät nyt teoriasta, että kaksikko on syyllistynyt myös useaan muuhunkin vastaavaan tähän asti selvittämättä jääneeseen ilotaloryöstöön.

Poliisi pääsi siis ketjun jäljille ja vangitsi teosta kaksi 22-vuotiasta Syyriasta sotaa, vainoa ja kidutusta paennutta nuorukaista. He tulivat Tanskaan pakoon vainoa 2015. Nuorukaiset tunnustivat teot osittain. Asia jatkuu Kööpenhaminan ja Aarhusin poliisin tutkintaosastolla.

After the alleged gang rape in Mülheim now another rape case with juvenile suspects has become known. In Herne two young German-Lebanese are said to have made a 14-year-old girl drunk and subsequently raped her. The police are investigating.

The case reported by the "Bild" newspaper is said to have already occurred on May 13th. The boys, 13 and 14 years old, are said to have traveled together with two girls, also 13 and 14 years old. At a kiosk, the youngsters had been sold a bottle of vodka and Red Bull.

In a park, the situation got out of control. The boys are said to have instilled the 14-year-old alcohol against their will and then pulled them into bushes. The 13-year-old testified that she had seen her rape there before she herself ran away in a panic.

As the "Bild" further reported, the 14-year-old had dragged after the act with more than three thousandth in a tram, where she collapsed. An ambulance took her to the hospital.

Allegedly, the two teenagers at the police took action. A mobile phone review should show if the crime was possibly filmed. The school has suspended the two suspects, one of whom was a classmate of the girl.

Joukkomurha saattoi olla kosto sitä edeltäneestä iskusta.

Papua-Uudessa-Guineassa on tehty raaka joukkomurha, jossa on kuollut ainakin 15 ihmistä. Suurin osa uhreista on lapsia ja naisia. Osa naisista oli raskaana.

Joukkomurha tapahtui maanantaina Papua-Uudessa-Guinean syrjäisellä seudulla Karidan kylässä. Kylässä on 800 asukasta.

Eräs asukas kertoo The Guardianille kuulleensa maanantaina aamulla ampumisen ääniä. Sitten hän näki joidenkin talojen palavan.

– Juoksin piiloon pensaiden taakse ja myöhemmin, yhdeksän-kymmenen aikaan, tulin takaisin ja näin paloiteltuja ihmisiä ja palaneita taloja, hän kertoo.

Hänen mukaansa ruumiit oli silvottu niin pahoin, ettei kaikkien uhrien henkilöllisyyttä pystynyt tunnistamaan. Kylälänen uskoo, että joukkomurhassa on kyse eri heimojen välienselvittelyistä.

Ketään ei ole vielä otettu kiinni veriteon takia.

Yli 20 ihmistä on tapettu syrjäisellä alueella Papua-Uudessa-Guineassa muutaman päivän aikana tehdyissä veritöissä. Suuri osa tapetuista on naisia ja lapsia.

Tuorein joukkomurha tapahtui maanantaina, jolloin ainakin 16 ihmistä tapettiin Karidan kylässä. Verityö oli ilmeisesti kosto aiemmasta iskusta, jossa tapettiin ainakin kuusi ihmistä.

Verityöt ovat tapahtuneet Helan maakunnassa eristäytyneellä alueella, jossa asuu keskenään jo pitkään taistelleita heimoja.

Verityöt ovat järkyttäneet syvästi Papua-Uutta-Guineaa, ja pääministeri James Marape on luvannut tekijöiden joutuvan vastaamaan teoistaan. Yhtään epäiltyä ei kuitenkaan ole vielä otettu kiinni

– Tämä on elämäni surullisin päivä, pääministeri kirjoitti sosiaalisessa mediassa julkaisemassaan viestissä.

Marapen mukaan poliisien vähäisyys on johtanut alueella laittomuuksiin.

Cyprus police is investigating a complaint by a young woman who claimed she was raped by Israelis in the coastal town of Ayia Napa.

Out of the 12 Israelis suspected of allegedly raping a 19-year-old British tourist on Tuesday night at an Ayia Napa hotel, three claim to have had sex with her, while 9 claim to have nothing to do with the incident..

The investigation is being handled by Famagusta police which was able to find forensic evidence linking the youths to the scene of the alleged crime, Channel 12 reported. All of the Israelis were arrested at the hotel on Wednesday morning. 

The Israelis are reportedly ahead of their army service and deny the allegations. According to them, the British tourist struck a friendship with two members of the group, with one of the two helping the other with the English to Hebrew communication.

One of the mothers of the Israeli youths told Channel 12 that her son doesn't speak English well and can't understand the legal process he is subjected to. According to her he called her "in tears" and said "I didn't do anything."     

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said they are aware of the investigation taking place against the minors and Counsel Yossef Wurmbrand in Nicosia is in touch with the detained Israelis and their families.

The hotel has many Israeli guests this time of year and other Israelis visiting told Channel 12 that a large group of British people began beating up Israelis whom they thought were close to the room of the 19-year-old British person once news of the alleged crime spread in the hotel.

According to the Israelis, what took place between the young woman and the Israelis happened "with consent and love."

The 12 alleged offenders will be brought before a judge on Thursday.

AYIA NAPA – Nine of the 12 Israelis involved in the suspected gang rape of a 19-year-old British tourist in Cyprus are minors, according to a local police source.

The source added that police found footage of the incident on some of the suspects' mobile phones.

"The matter is under investigation, only at the end of which we will be able to say which charges each suspect is facing," another local police source told Haaretz.

The source added that police are looking for eyewitnesses of the rape and were waiting to collect additional evidence, such as footage from security cameras.

According to another source involved in the investigation, if the alibi presented by the suspects is sufficiently solid, some of them may be released before their eight days of detention end.

All but one of the suspects are from three different groups of tourists, one from Jerusalem, one from Afula and one from Haifa's Krayot suburbs. They are being held in five different locations: One of the suspects is under arrest in Nicosia, three are held in Limassol, two more are detained in Larnaca and two others are in Ayia Napa.

The suspects – aged 16 to 19 – are represented by several groups of attorneys, who have been replaced a few times.

On Thursday, a Cyprus court extended the suspects' remand by eight days. Channel 13 News reported on Thursday that a police representative said during a court hearing held to discuss extending the suspects' remand that the rape continued even after the British tourist asked her attackers to stop.

The police representative was quoted as saying: "After a conversation between the complainant and one of the suspects, they decided to move to the hotel room. The suspect was violent toward the complainant, she asked him to stop and started crying. Despite that, instead of stopping he ignoring her requests and continued to have sex with her against her will."

The tourist said she had consensual sex with one the suspects prior to the rape, but didn't know most of her assailants, according to Channel 13 News. 

The Israelis were arrested in the resort town Ayia Napa on Wednesday.

The court decided on Thursday to extend the men's remand by eight days, while local media reported that the woman is expected to undergo further medical examinations.

During the court hearing, a representative of the local police said the men continued raping the tourist while she resisted them, citing her testimony.

The tourist told the police: "When I entered the room at midnight everybody was drunk, everything is blurry to me now. But I do remember that by 1 A.M., men I hadn't known before raped me."

Channel 12 News quoted on Thursday the court document ordering that the suspects' remand be extended. According to the report, the document read: "At one point suspect 1 invited his friends to enter the room. Then 12 people entered the room and stood around the bed."

According to the court document, the tourist eventually fled the room naked. Israeli news site Ynet reoirted that bruises were seen on the complainant's lower body.

The strange phenomenon of young people licking ice cream and spitting in mouthwash may be more political than you think

Copycat acts followed. Pretty soon, people were swishing mouthwash, drinking tea and spitting it back into the bottles. All in the name of clout or online fame. While it's easy to brush off these 'pranks' as disgusting, asinine acts, it's curious why so many young people are taking part. Of course, there's the obvious answer – for purely anarchistic reasons; a YOLO (you only live once) mentality symptomatic of youth culture. Millennials earn less, save less, and invest less than their parents. Getting a fulfilling job is tough and the likelihood of owning property is near non-existent. Those kinds of frustrations manifest in strange ways, even into something as silly as licking an ice cream and putting it back. Could young folks taking part in these viral trends be making social and political commentary with their defiant tactics?

There's clearly the viral, online outrage factor — people chasing social media fame by doing more and more outrageous things. In this sense, it seems apolitical. But if we include the context in which this happens then we might get a richer picture. A lot of these incidents are happening in large retail chain stores like Walmart. Whether a subconscious effect or an explicitly thought out choice, these pranks could be read as anti-capitalist protest raging against big corporations.


Lukas Slothuus, who is writing his PhD on protest and dissent, tells Metro.co.uk that multiple things seem to be going on at once here. 'Most of these incidents are happening in Walmart- the epitome of American consumerism,' he explains. 'In this sense, there's something political going on. Most people I've spoken to would distinguish sharply between the morality of stealing from Tesco or Starbucks versus stealing from your local independent shop. 'I know plenty of people who think it's fully morally justified to steal from large corporations, particularly those who don't pay their tax. And I think that's actually a fairly easy position to defend from both a philosophical and a practical standpoint. 'Not all defacing of public goods is equal.'


Whether or not the perpetrators intend on making political commentary, this can be a byproduct of their actions. The ice-cream licker – a young black woman – was met with calls for her arrest. Before she was identified as a 17-year-old, Texas police said she could face 20 years in prison on a felony food tampering charge. Many social media users drew contrasts on punitive attitudes towards white and non-white transgressors. They noted that in comparison, Oxford University student Lavinia Woodward famously stabbed her boyfriend and was spared prison, which some argue was a result of white privilege. The black teenager who licked ice cream was immediately met with a barrage of abusive comments. Bameron Nicole Smith, a trans person who spit into mouthwash, was inundated with transphobic comments. Gay Youtuber Larz was the target of homophobic abuse after he scooped out some ice cream with his hand. Lenise Martin III, who was said to have copied the original ice cream licker, spent two nights in jail despite having CCTV proof he had purchased the items. Would accused white people have faced the same severe response? By virtue of existing as a minority and daring to transgress, these figures become political, even if they don't intend to.

One of the people wrongly implicated in the trend is Shiloh Greaves, the Arizona tea spitter. The 25-year-old is a wrestler who had purchased the item before spitting in it for a wrestling promo. He filmed his video months before the ice cream licker and yet was faced with a barrage of abuse when people thought he was part of the movement. Shiloh, a biracial black man, tells Metro.co.uk that he thinks our political and social climate influences these behaviours. 'It leads to people questioning their own self-worth,' he says. 'Everyone wants to be a celebrity now. Everyone wants to be rich. Nobody cares about changing the world anymore. Everyone just wants that higher social status.' He notes a double standard in outrage to minority delinquents in comparison to white pranksters. 'I had a lot of hate mail saying the n-word,' Shiloh says. 'There are people who have done much worse things on camera than I did and nobody calls for them to be locked up for 20 years. Nobody called for them to be murdered. 'I wasn't given that benefit. Even after I gave my explanation saying it was for theatre and was cleared by LAPD, I still wasn't given that benefit.'

Civil disobedience in supermarkets is nothing new. The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement is all about campaigning against goods produced on occupied lands in Israel. The ice cream licking trend doesn't have the same clearly articulated political message as BDS. Instead, it achieves a message through entertainment (outrageousness is still entertaining). Writer Jamie Bartlett tells Metro.co.uk that in this way politics and entertainment are becoming indistinguishable. 'It makes it very hard to disentangle because they follow the same logic of outrage and being on the same platform, politics and entertainment are becoming indistinguishable. 'In the noisy environment we live in standing out is harder, therefore, people need to do ever more outrageous things to get seen and heard. I.e Donald Trump and people who film themselves planing on top of skyscrapers.' Jamie adds that it's not surprising that activism is starting to take this form. 'It is inevitable that people's mode of political protest changes. Professional politics itself is becoming far more performative, presentational, and memeable.' Perhaps the people engaging in the action find it difficult to place the blame for the discontent they feel today. This is just their way of raging against the system. 'Sometimes people don't have the kind of political language available to them that means they can make demands,' adds Research Fellow Lukas. 'So it could be that these people are voicing a more general discontent with the world and society they live in. Sometimes such action happens in an unruly, even irrational way. 'Political action is spontaneous, arises from some inner feeling of being pissed off but without being able to place the blame on anyone in particular. 'In the Middle Ages, you could take a swing at poisoning the king if you didn't like your situation. But today it's harder to identify who's responsible for all the misery and suffering we witness.' Think of that political misery like mental trauma that manifests in the body as physical ailments – it has to surface somehow.

Concerned citizens were worried about the grown man they saw staying at a Palm Bay motel with a young girl when they called police Saturday afternoon.

Police arrived to find 44-year-old Joaquin Olsson of Sweden staying with a young girl over 12 but under 16 years old, according to arrest reports.

Detectives found the girl's luggage as well as used condoms in the trashcan in Olsson's room, police said.

During an interview with detectives, Olsson said he had been communicating with the victim through text messages, Instagram and Facetime for months and had previously flown to the United States to meet her in March, the arrest affidavit says.

Olsson told police he knew he was committing a crime because he had looked up the laws in the United States before his trip. Olsson said that he "decided to chance it' because he "loves' the victim, according to arrest reports.

Olsson was charged with lewd and lascivious battery on a victim between 12 and 16 years old, lewd and lascivious conduct, lewd and lascivious exhibition traveling to meet a minor.

He was arrested and taken to the Brevard County Jail where he is being held without bail.
