Paris stabbing: Postman stabbed in throat in rampage hours after seven attacked in city

A PARIS postman has been stabbed in the throat by a scissor-wielding attacker just hours after seven people were stabbed in the French capital when a man went on a knife rampage.

The man tried to attack other passersby in the 11th district of the French capital on Monday morning.

The suspect was reportedly tasered by police and arrested in Rue de la Roquette, a historic suburb in the eleventh arrondissement of Paris, on Monday morning.

He is currently being questioned by police, according to local TV news channel, France 3 TV.

The condition of the postman and passersby is currently unknown.

It comes just hours after an Afghan man attacked seven people, two thought to be British tourists, who were left with chest and head injuries last night in the Quai de la Loire district of the city.

According to French police, the attack is not being deemed terror-related at this stage following the man's arrest.

A man arrested after a chase on the tarmac at Lyon airport

Air traffic was totally interrupted this Monday after a chase between a man and police on the slopes of Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport. He shouted "Allah Akbar", according to a police source, and claimed to be "God's envoy" when he was arrested.

A man was arrested Monday late in the morning by the police when he had entered the Lyon Saint-Exupery airport with his car, reported the prefecture. Without injury, he broke two glass doors on the left of the main entrance of Terminal 1 of the airport.

He shouted "Allah Akbar", according to a police source, and claimed to be "God's envoy" when he was arrested. Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport has been closed. All flights were diverted to Geneva. Some have even been canceled, according to AFP. The airport said the traffic was "interrupted until further notice" on Twitter.

The vehicle had previously been reported traveling at high speed and against the road for several tens of kilometers from the Ain, the A46 and A42, according to police sources. He was driving aboard a Mercedes registered in Luxembourg. Police in Italy and the UK have arrested a gang of people smugglers who modified documents acquired from Italian citizens to smuggle Albanian nationals into the UK.

A 42-year-old Albanian man and his wife were arrested in Kent, south-east England, by the Metropolitan Police as part of an operation led by Italian police and codenamed 'Tower Bridge.'

For a fee of £8,500 (€9,500), the racket's leader and his 37-year-old Slovakian wife, who coordinated the British side of the criminal gang's operation, allegedly facilitated illegal entry into the UK of several Albanian migrants.

Half a dozen Italian citizens were also complicit, according to a statement by Italy's police.

Police said the Italians illegally supplied their passports, which were then modified with a photo of the person trying to enter the UK, for a fee of between €500 and €2,000. Once the Albanian nationals had illegally entered the UK, the documents would be returned to the Italian owners.

Nimes Feria terror: Driver shouting 'allahu akbar' ploughs into crowd in south France (14.9.2018)

POLICE in France have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after he ploughed his car into a crowd while shouting "Allah Akbar".

The 32-year-old suspect mowed down two suspects who have been rushed to hospital following the shock incident at 1am in Nimes, southern France, where bystanders had gathered in preparation for the region's annual grape harvesting festival.

The man was reported to have sped the car towards a crowd of 50 people outside the L'Instant T bar.

Witnesses said the man had tried to flee the scene but had been stopped by bystanders before being arrested by police at 1.30am.

The victims had been standing behind barriers when the car hit them.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital in a stable condition having suffered injuries to their lower limbs.

A source told French publication Midi Libre the man was not known to police for suspected radicalisation.

The region's public prosecutor Eric Maurel said the suspect was in a state of mental confusion" during his arrest, which followed him being roughed up by the crowd of witnesses who tried to restrain him.

A police spokeswoman said she had no information about the man's motives but noted that the investigation is being handled by regular police, not anti-terror investigators who step in when terrorism is suspected.

As the man charged in the death of 13-year-old Marrisa Shen made his first public court appearance on Friday in downtown Vancouver, sign-waving protests alongside an emotional vigil were taking place outside the courthouse. Ibrahim Ali, a 28-year-old Syrian refugee, was charged with first-degree murder after his arrest on September 7, more than a year after Shen's body was discovered in a park in the suburb of Burnaby in July 2017.

Near the courthouse, anti-immigration protesters and members of Canada's Syrian community and others worried about backlash in the wake of Ali's arrest gathered, lighting candles and holding placards. Supporters of the Shen family carried signs and banners reading "No Bail No More Victims", "We Want Justice" and "Comprehensive Security Screening Now." They mingled with people fearful of a backlash against immigrants and Muslims. Among them were Duncan MacLeod and Daniyah Shamshi, who said they were concerned about the division Ibrahim's case might create.

"As part of the social justice committee from the St. James Church, I've worked with a lot of Syrian refugees because I'm an Arabic-speaking person," MacLeod said. "I will tell you they are concerned, and they're also showing compassion to the girl and her family." Shamshi said the murder charge against Ibrahim may allow people "to take advantage of the situation by pitting multiple marginalised groups against each other".
Shamshi, a Canadian citizen born in the United Arab Emirates, said she worried that Shen's murder would give rise to white nationalist and racist sentiments. "I'm a Canadian citizen with Muslim roots, and despite having all the privileges of being a citizen, I can still experience part of the backlash just due to the colour of my skin," she said.

Ali arrived in Canada several months before Shen was found dead in Burnaby's Central Park on July 19, 2017. The daughter of Chinese immigrants, she had been reported missing just hours earlier, after failing to return to her nearby Burnaby home.
Ibrahim reportedly lived with his family not far from Central Park and had come to Canada in March 2017 with the help of a community group and a church.
Superintendent Donna Richardson of the Vancouver homicide investigation team said after the arrest that the case involving Ali, a permanent resident of Canada, was "not related to religious ideology". The brief hearing on Friday, during which a defence lawyer was appointed, was delayed multiple times as the court awaited the arrival of an Arabic interpreter.
Behind glass, Ali stood wearing a pink shirt and red pants, his arms folded behind his back. He has yet to make a plea in the case, and faces a mandatory life sentence if convicted. Some of the protesters outside the courthouse hurled criticism at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has promoted Canada as tolerant and accepting of asylum seekers.
"This is a Trudeau failed policy," shouted Laura Thompson. "Why isn't [Ibrahim] being immediately being sent back to his own country?" After the hearing, Ali's newly appointed lawyer, Danny Markovitz, said his client was "holding up ... but confused by the process". "I received particulars today, and I haven't had a chance to review them in any depth," Markovitz told reporters. "I do want to say my heart truly goes out to the child's family." Ali's family, Markovitz said, are "puzzled and they're horrified by the allegations". Ali's next court appearance is set for October 12. Said MacLeod, outside the courthouse: "Both sides are seeking justice ... Canadian justice."

A big U.S. meatpacker has agreed to pay $1.5 million to 138 Somali-American Muslim workers who were fired from their jobs at a Colorado plant after they were refused prayer breaks, a federal anti-discrimination agency said Friday.

Cargill Meat Solutions, a division of Minnesota-based agribusiness company Cargill Corp., also agreed to train managers and hourly workers in accommodating Muslim employees' prayer breaks at its Fort Morgan beef processing plant, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said.

Wichita, Kansas-based Cargill denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation, the federal agency said. The dispute dates back to the firings of the workers in late 2016 after management rescinded policies allowing Muslim employees to take short breaks for prayer.

In 2017, the agency found that the workers had been harassed and discriminated against for protesting the unannounced policy change that denied them opportunities for obligatory prayer. Hundreds of Somali-Americans work at the plant in Fort Morgan, northeast of Denver.

In a related announcement, a Teamsters union local that was supposed to represent the workers will pay them $153,000 to settle discrimination complaints.

The federal agency said it determined that Teamsters Local Union No. 455, based in Denver and in Fort Morgan, failed to advocate for the Muslim workers in their dispute with Cargill and even harassed them because of their race, religion and national origin. The workers were dues-paying union members.

Moroccan Muslim Migrant Investigated After Beating Daughter for Acting 'Too Western'

A Moroccan migrant living in Italy is facing charges after allegedly brutally beating his own daughter because he felt that she was acting and dressing "too Western".

The 58-year-old is said to have repeatedly beaten his 16-year-old daughter at their home in the municipality of Soresina in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, Il Giornale reports.

According to initial investigations by the Carabinieri, the 58-year-old had grown angry that his daughter wanted to dress and act like the Italian girls around her and was opposed to the fact that she had made efforts to fit in with their local community rather than adhere to Islamic traditions.

The Carabinieri had been called over several domestic abuse allegations at the family home in the past and in the most recent call, they found the 16-year-old girl heavily bruised, particularly on her face. The victim told the officers that her father had hit her and slammed her into a wall. The father was then reported for violence and is currently under investigation.

A 21 year old Thai woman went to Pattaya police yesterday to say that she was handcuffed and had her mouth covered in duct tape. Then she had her head shaved and was raped by her Iranian ex husband. She had split up from the man two weeks ago after being together with him for a year.

He is a prominent businessman at the resort with interests in condo rentals and car hire and has many associates. She fears for her safety. "Neung" went with a foreign friend to report the crime to Pol Captain Niwat Phangkhaen last night. She said that on Wednesday at 4am she was in Walking Street when her ex tried to force her onto his motorbike.

Some tourists came to her rescue but they were warned off by friends of her ex who said it was none of their business. Threats were made and the tourists backed off. She said she was driven to a condo in Jomtien where she was handcuffed and had her mouth covered in duct tape.

She was threatened with a knife then had her head shaved and was raped twice. This calmed down her ex who then begged her to come back to him. She pretended to agree to the proposal then asked if she could go and get her clothes from another location before moving back in with him.  She was allowed to leave then after consulting with friends went to the police.

Police took the report and sent the victim to hospital for checks. They are now investigating her claims as a matter of urgency.

48 years for gang plotting to sneak Albanians into the UK on jet skis

A GANG of "alarmingly amateur" people smugglers, who plotted to bring migrants across the English Channel on jet skis, were jailed for a total of more than 48 years yesterday. The seven men included Kent based trafficking criminals and their Albanian "travel agents", the Old Bailey heard.

At least 18 Albanian migrants were taken from Calais to Dymchurch in Kent in 2016, using an overcrowded inflatable boat designed for six.

When it got into trouble and ran out of fuel, the plotters decided on a three-person jet ski for their next mission.

However, a surveillance operation, led by the National Crime Agency, put a stop to the unlikely plan.

The men were arrested and convicted of conspiracy to breach immigration law.

Judge Mark Dennis QC sentenced Leonard Powell, 66, from Dartford, Kent, to nine years.

His son George, 42, from Farningham, Kent, was given six years and nine months.

They were described as the "organisers and controlling figures".

Powell senior's other son Alfie, 39, of no fixed address, was said to have held a non-organisational role and received a six-year jail sentence.

They were joined in the dock by Sabah Dulaj, 24, of south-east London and Artur Nutaj, 39 – said to be "leading figures" in the plot.

Dulaj was jailed for seven years while Nutaj was jailed for seven-and-a-half years.

Co-conspirators Wayne Bath, 39, of Sheerness, and Albert Letchford, 42, of Dartford, received six years.

The judge said: "The execution of the operation at times proved to be alarmingly amateur and could have resulted in tragic consequences."

Ihmissalakuljetus­verkoston pomo Rekawt Kayani on saanut Ranska­ssa 7 vuoden vankeusrangaistuksen ja 100 000 euron sakot. Hänen kerrotaan salakuljettaneen satoja ihmisiä Iso-Britannia­an matukriisin ollessa kuumimmillaan vuosina 2015-2016. Kayani pidätettiin toukokuussa 2016.

Myös seitsemän muuta ihmissalakuljettajaa tuomittiin 18 kuukauden - 7 vuoden vankeusrangaistuksiin.

People smuggling crime lord is jailed for seven years in France for helping hundreds of migrants reach the UK

A crime lord who headed up a criminal network that smuggled hundreds of people into the UK has been jailed in France.

Rekawt Kayani, 36, was arrested by National Crime Agency officers at his home address in the Normanton area of Derby in May 2016, as part of a joint operation being run with the French police.

He was involved in numerous smuggling runs during the peak of the refugee crisis.

In June 2015, 68 people from Afghanistan, China and Vietnam were found inside four lorries at the Harwich International Port in Essex.

Investigators also found Kayani orchestrated runs from Dieppe in northern France to Newhaven on the East Sussex coast. 

In January 2016 seven migrants were found crammed inside a concealed compartment in the back of a van. Five were from Vietnam and two were from Iraq.

Following his arrest, which was carried out using a European Arrest Warrant, Kayani was extradited to France to face trial alongside a number of others.

At a court in Lille on Monday he was sentenced to seven years in prison and given a 100,000 euro fine.

After he is eventually released from custody he will be banned from entering France for life.

Seven other members of the gang were also convicted and sentenced to between 18 months and seven years in prison. Kayani received the longest sentence.
