Ensimmäisenä epäiltynä pidätetty Driss Oukabir on tunnustanut eilisessä oikeudenkäynnissä, että hänen terroristiveljensä Moussa oli kertonut tälle jihad-aikeistaan ennen hyökkäystä ja että Moussa yritti piilotella radikalisoitumistaan hyökkäystä edeltäneinä viikkoina. Moussa Oukabir oli alkanut rukoilla enemmän ja pukeutua "uskonnollisemmin" eikä käynyt paikallisessa moskeijassa, koska pelkäsi turvallisuuspalveluiden soluttautuneen sinne.

Moussa oli yksi viidestä Cambrilsissa ammutusta muslimiterroristista.

Spain attacks suspect 'had given jihad warning to brother'

Teenager Moussa Oukabir avoided his local mosque for fear it had been infiltrated by the security services, say reports in Spain.

A suspect in the Spain terror attacks told his surviving brother he "had to do jihad involving war" before carrying out the rampages, according to reports.

Driss Oukabir, whose name the van that mowed down pedestrians in Barcelona was hired in, made the confession to a judge on Friday.

He admitted his younger sibling, Moussa, who died in the second attack in Cambrils, tried to hide his radicalisation in the weeks before the assaults, El Pais said.

Oukabir claimed he noticed his brother praying more but avoiding their local mosque for fear it had been infiltrated by security services.

The 18-year-old Moroccan also downplayed his own role in the attacks, saying he had unknowingly rented the van used on Las Ramblas as a "favour".

Oukabir made the comments at a release hearing, which was subsequently denied.

Judge Fernando Andreu told him he must have been "fully aware" of his 17-year-old brother's extremist views.

Moussa "would have suffered a religious exacerbation" reflected in his dress, hair style and religious habits, Judge Andreu said.

And he was accompanied to collect the van on a 60 mile trip by the "hardest core" of the terror cell - thought to be made up of 12 people.

Moussa was one of five men killed in Cambrils, their second target on the night of August 16.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the dual attacks that left 17 people dead and over 100 injured.

Espanjan poliisi on pidättänyt jälleen yhden ihmisen, jota se epäilee terroristiyhteyksistä ja yhteydestä Barcelonan elokuiseen terrori-iskuun.
siasta kertovat muun muassa espanjalaiset El Pais ja El Mundo turvallisuusviranomaisilta saatujen tietojen perusteella.

Epäilty pidätettiin Vinarozin kaupungissa, joka sijaitsee parisataa kilometriä etelään Barcelonasta Espanjan itärannikolla.
Pidätetty on poliisin mukaan marokkolaistaustainen, Espanjassa asuva 24-vuotias mies. Espanjan sisäministeriö kertoo, että hänen epäillään avustaneen terroristien hallussa olleiden räjähteiden valmistuksessa käytettyjen tarvikkeiden ja kemikaalien ostossa. Hänen epäillään myös avustaneen räjähteiden kuljettamisessa.

edit. En ole vielä nähnyt kommentteja, missä kauhistellaan miten tämä voi lisätä ihmisten antipatioita marokkolaisia kohtaan. Nimittäin marokkolaiset eivät ole olleet Espanjassa kovassa huudossa. Aurinkorannikolla tapahtui muutama vuosi sitten sattumus, jossa marokkolainen raiskasi ja tappoi  Fuengirolassa ruotsalaisen tytön ja haavoitti tämän kaveria. Myös marokkolaiset jengit ovat tehneet rikastaneet maata pitkään. Aikanaan Halmeen Tony pisti nippuun reilu kymmenen (neljä sairaalakuntoon) rikastajaa Barcelonassa, kun yrittivät viedä lompakon. Suomessa Halme olisi saanut syytteen pahoinpitelystä, mutta Espanjassa ei tullut sanktioita ja miestä pidettiin yleisesti sankarina.

Tutut puhuvat noista marokkolaisista erittäin nuivaan sävyyn. Ne perinteiset tummahipiäiset piraattilaukkujen kaupustelijat eivät herätä lähellekään samanlaista antipatiaa.

A police helicopter is said to have been mobilised to help in the search for the stolen truck, a white Nissan Cabstar, and the cannisters.

Respected Spanish daily La Razon said 1,843 canisters had been reported missing, although another report put the total number of canisters taken at 1,600.

Spain is currently on terror alert level number four.

More than 250 suspected jihadists have been arrested in Spain since the start of 2015 - most of them since it raised its anti-terror alert level to four on a scale of five on June 26 2015.

Cell Behind Barcelona Attack May Have Had Sights on Eiffel Tower

In the weeks before they carried out an attack in the Spanish city of Barcelona last summer, a cell of jihadists inspired by the Islamic State traveled repeatedly to France, where they bought a camera and recorded footage of the Eiffel Tower.

That video, as well as the stunning quantity of precursor chemicals used to make explosives which were recovered from the safe house they used, has led experts to conclude that the terrorists were plotting something much larger and more catastrophic. The materials they left behind suggest that their plan involved packing vans with explosives and attacking targets not just in Spain, where the group killed 16 people and injured 140 others in August, but also possibly in France.

"The existing evidence indicates the terrorist cell had planned a far more ambitious and potentially more deadly operation," Fernando Reinares and Carola García-Calvo of the Program on Global Terrorism at the Elcano Royal Institute in Madrid wrote in a study published on Wednesday.

"Considering the lethal resources assembled by the terrorists and their lethal intent, the death toll could have reached hundreds had they not accidentally blown up their bomb factory," said the report, which appeared in the CTC Sentinel, the publication of the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point. It is based on interviews with investigators, a review of court proceedings and an analysis of videos, images and other materials recovered at investigation scenes.

The group's plans were derailed on Aug. 16 when a maneuver inside the abandoned house in the Spanish town of Alcanar where they were drying explosive powder caused the mixture to detonate. The earthshaking explosion demolished the building, entombing two of the 10 members of the cell and injuring a third, according to the study.

That prompted the other cell members to move up the timing of their plans and to improvise attacks over the next two days that would amount to the deadliest attack in Spain since the 2004 bombings in Madrid. The assailants used a van to crush pedestrians along the popular Las Ramblas boulevard in Barcelona and nine hours later, they used another car to careen into tourists on a promenade in the seaside town of Cambrils.

Three Detained in Southern France over 2017 Barcelona Attacks

The French prosecutor's office says three people have been detained in France in connection with August's deadly attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.

The arrests were made in the southern French regions of Tarn and Gard Tuesday after a decision by a French judge last month to launch a full inquiry into the Spanish attacks, which left 16 dead during the peak tourist season.

The three individuals are being held over the inquiry into "attempted murder as part of a terrorist enterprise" and "criminal terrorist association." The identities and nationalities of the three have not been disclosed.

No charges have been made.

The French prosecutor's office said the three are in the network of one of the attack suspects in Spain but declined to elaborate.

La RAZON accesses the videos of the preparation of the attacks of 17-A. The jihadists recorded in Alcanar how they made the explosives: "This does a lot of damage"

From the rubble of Alcanar, the Mossos d'Esquadra recovered a Canon IUX 180 camera. From the interior they extracted a memory card of 16Gb in which they found images and videos of those responsible for the attacks "manufacturing explosive devices, as well as carrying out proclamations that demonstrate that the commission of the attacks was motivated by their ideological militancy in Salafismo combatant ». In the SD memory 98 files were located of which 80 are images, 16 videos and 2 illegible files. In the sequences that were recorded they are seen constructing the bombs, laughing, celebrating the deaths that they were going to provoke and even being proud of how well an explosive belt sat on one of them. Conversations in which the use of Arabic is interspersed with that of Spanish and Catalan. While they do it, they look at the camera, smile and work on the pumps. Just a few days after recording these videos, its protagonists would sow panic in Barcelona and Cambrils and cause the death of 16 people. These are some of the audios that accompany the videos, which work in the summary and to which LA RAZÓN has had exclusive access:

In another of the passages you hear the following:

Hichamy: This (teaches part of an artifact) costs nothing, the only thing you need is faith and hate the infidels. This (again show it) budget has not exceeded 15 euros, between 15 and 20.

Youness: Ha ha and it hurts.

The presence of explosives, screws and cylinders is constant. In this other passage they speak of a hand grenade made by themselves:

Hichamy: This is an impromptu hand grenade, but it does its job. The budget of each, I do not know how much it is because everything we have I have brought from my job and I worked there in front of your allies, who saw me as I did, that is, with your money (refers to to your salary), we prepare to kill you, so the problem is yours and not us. Thus they were for days in Alcanar, preparing the attacks between jokes, appeals to Allah to open the doors of Eden and references to Al Bagdadi (leader of the Daesh). In all the files appear both the material author of the events, Youness Abouyaaqoub and the rest of the terrorists.

Siihen ei mitkään tosiasiat vaikuta. Nähtiinhän se Filatovinkin kohdalla kun aito imaami kertoi suorassa lähetyksessä koraanin määräyksiä homojen käsittelystä.

Spanish investigators have not found any signs that the Islamist cell which is suspected of carrying out last year's jihadist attacks in Barcelona and a nearby seaside resort had international connections, a senior investigator said Thursday.

"We have not found to date in any of our lines of investigation evidence of a reliable external catalyst for the attacks," Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Vazquez of Spain's Guardia Civil police told AFP.

The Guardia Civil, along with Spain's National Police and Catalonia's regional police force, the Mossos d'Esquadra, are carrying out the investigation into the August 2017 attacks.

A total of 16 people were killed when a van drove into crowds on the popular Las Ramblas boulevard in the heart of Barcelona and in a knife attack in the nearby resort of Cambrils.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Trips to France and Belgium by members of the cell -- allegedly made up of an imam and a group of youths from the town of Ripoll located about 100 kilometres (60 miles) north of Barcelona -- raised suspicions that they may have had connections with Islamist cells in those countries.

"We are developing more information lines in France and Belgium, but the reality is that, while it is true that the Barcelona terrorists were in France and Belgium, we still need to determine exactly why they were there," Vazquez said.

His statements contradicted Spanish media reports that the mastermind of the attacks is still on the run, and that when the attacks took place he was in a central European country.

"We have not found any evidence to indicate this," Vazquez said when asked about the reports.

He added that there is a suspected jihadist in jail who has said there is "a cell in France that is very similar to the one in Ripoll" but "beyond this, we have found nothing".

Eight members of the cell suspected of carrying out the attacks died -- six were shot by police and two others, including the imam, were killed the day before the Barcelona attack during an accidental explosion while making bombs.

Two others are in jail awaiting to be tried in Madrid while another two were released on bail before their trial.
