EU komissio pyrkii herättämään Dublinin sopimuksen uudestaan voimaan. Tämä tarkoittaisi myös että Kreikan tulisi alkaa noudattamaan Dublinin sopimusta, jolloin muilla EU-mailla olisi mahdollisuus lähettää sopimuksen nojalla notkujat takaisin Kreikkaan. Lähes kaikki EU:hun saapuvat turvapaikanhakijat tulevat joko Kreikan tai Italian läpi matkallaan kohti paremman sosiaaliturvan maita. Kreikka ei ole Dublinin sopimusta juurikaan pyrkinyt noudattamaan vaan päästänyt tp-hakijat kulkemaan maan läpi ilman rekisteröintejä. Vasta Balkanin reitin sulkeminen Unkarin, Itävallan ja muutaman muun maan toimesta johti siihen että Kreikka alkoi rekisteröimään tulijat. Osatekijänä oli Turkin kanssa tehty pakolaissopimus joka olisi avannut Kreikalle mahdollisuuden lähettää hakijat takaisin Turkkiin. Nyt EU vaatii että Dublinin sopimusta on noudatettava ja tällöin esimerkiksi Suomi voisi lähettää valtaosan Suomeen saapuneista tp-hakijoista Kreikkaan.

Kreikan maahanmuuttoministeri Ioannis Mouzalas on antanut haastattelun Spiegel-lehdelle jossa kertoo että heillä ei ole aikomustakaan alkaa noudattamaan Dublin-sopimusta. Hänen mukaansa Kreikalla ei ole mitään mahdollisuutta ottaa vastaan tp-hakijoita muista EU-maista. Mouzalis korostaa että Kreikassa on jo valmiiksi 60.000 tp-hakijaa eikä heidänkään asioitaan saada hoidettua. Muiden EU-maiden tulisikin aktiivisemmin ottaa tp-hakijoita Kreikasta. Spiegelin haastattelija vielä erikseen kysyy että hylkääkö Kreikka kategorisesti Dublin-sopimuksen noudattamisen johon Mouzalas vastaa että kyllä, heillä ei ole mitään mahdollisuutta noudattaa sopimusta ja kaikki vaatimukset sen noudattamisesta Kreikan osalta ovat höpöhöpö-puheita.

Suomalaiset poliitikot petaa itselleen rahakkaita duuneja Brysselistä. Muuta syytä en keksi. Otetaan nyt jälleen kerran esimerkiksi ne vapaaehtoiset mutta pakolliset sisäiset siirrot (joita Kreikkakin tukee..). Sopimusta on noudattanut kaksi maata. Suomi ja Malta. Malta toimii tällähetkellä EU:n kiertävän puheenjohtajuuden hattu päässä. Tässä syy miksi ovat noudattaneet sopimusta. Kun Maltan kausi loppuu kesäkuussa niin sopimusta noudattaa vain yksi Pohjolan Hölmölä.

Rekisteröimisen sijaan Turkista tulleita tulijoita kyydittiin linja-autoilla Euroopan puoleiselle rajalle. Kreikan lepsuus ja EU-johdon politiikka johtivat sitten tulijavirtojen jatkuvaan kasvuun.

Rekisteröintien määrä nousi vasta sitten, kun Makedonia tehosti rajavalvontaansa ja kymmenet tuhannet Keski-Eurooppaan pyrkineet laittomat siirtolaiset jäivät Turkki-sopimuksen jälkeen jumiin Kreikkaan.

Taas ei voi olla miettimättä, miksi Suomen on täydellinen pakko noudattaa kaikkia mahdollisia sopimuksia ja samaan aikaa yhtäällä ja toisaalla sopimuksilla pyyhitään pers..pöytää?

Sepä se. Sisäministeri Orpo perusteli täydellistä kädettömyyttään kansainvälisillä sopimuksilla, kun tulijat olivat Suomessa juuri siksi, että muut EU-maat eivät olleet noudattaneet yhteisten sopimusten velvoitteita.

Jos ei Dublinia, ei myöskään Schengeniä eli Kreikasta poistumaan pyrkiville rajakontrolli takaisin. Sillähän tuo pulma on ratkaistu.

Syrian man carrying asylum papers found hanged at Greek port

A Syrian man carrying asylum application papers has been found hanged at Greece's largest port.

It comes as the country faces a major migrant crisis with more than 62,000 stranded including outside Piraeus in Athens where the body was found.

The man was discovered early on Monday morning near a passenger departure area at the port, local media said.

Hundreds of migrants including young children are camped in tents outside the ferry terminal.

The number of daily arrivals of migrants at Greek islands from the nearby Turkish coast has risen slightly in recent days.

The coast guard said 75 migrants had arrived during the 24 hour period before Monday morning.

Eurooppa nimikin on Kreikkalaisten keksintöä, eli ne ruskeasilmäiset mustatukkaiset ovat niitä eurooppalaisia. Me pohjoiset olemme ihan eri porukkaa.

Vihdoinkin joku Kreikassakin on ymmärtänyt pakolaisten maan taloudelle tarjoaman dynamiikan ja piristysruiskeen:

Kreikassa toivotaan pakolaisista lisäpotkua taloudelle

Kreikassa hallitus ja asiantuntijat toivovat, että maahan virranneet pakolaiset ja siirtolaiset kääntyisivät maan eduksi ja antaisivat potkua pohjamudissa rypevälle taloudelle.

Toive perustuu jo aiemmin koettuun, kun 1990-luvulla ja 2000-luvun alussa maahan saapuneet noin puoli miljoonaa siirtolaista vauhdittivat osaltaan taloutta.

Nyt puolestaan noin 60 000 pakolaista, mukaan lukien monet nuoret Syyriasta, Afga­nis­ta­nista ja Pakistanista ovat jääneet jumiin Kreikan pako­lais­lei­reille sen jälkeen kun tiet muualle Eurooppaan ovat sulkeutuneet monilta osin.

Vaikka työvoimaa olisi tarjolla paljon, Kreikka ei ole vielä onnistunut saamaan saman­kal­taista taloudellista lisäpotkua tulokkaista kuten aiemmin.

Monet niistä 500 000–600 000 siir­to­lai­sesta, jotka saapuivat maahan 20 vuotta sitten pääosin Albaniasta ja Bulgariasta, löysivät nopeasti paikkansa Kreikan yhteis­kun­nasta. Työtä löytyi usein maataloudesta ja raken­nu­sa­lalta.

Zografakis kuitenkin uskoo, että nykyinen, osaltaan käsiin räjähtänyt siir­to­lais­ti­lanne voi kaikesta huolimatta vielä kääntyä maan hyödyksi.

Toivoa tukee muun muassa se, että keväällä 2016 EU-komissio ennusti, että pakolaiset voivat lisätä EU:n brut­to­kan­san­tuo­tetta 0,2–0,3 prosent­tiyk­si­köllä vuosien 2016 ja 2017 aikana.

Lisäksi Kreikan asian­tun­ti­joilla riittää uskoa siihen, että lähtöhaluista huolimatta turismi- ja maatalousalan työt houkuttelevat siirtolaisia kuten aiemmin.

Viranomaisten tilastojen mukaan 1990-luvulla siirtolaiset edesauttoivat talouden kasvun lisäksi myös Kreikan väestökasvua huomattavasti.

Police remanded at least 10 people in custody and are expected to make arrests following a two-hour operation at a migrant and refugee processing center on the eastern Aegean island of Chios.

The two-hour raid at the Souda camp started at 7.30 on Tuesday morning and involved dozens of officers searching residents and tents in the wake of tension between rival ethnic groups staying at the facility.

Police expect to make at least three arrests after the discovery of knives and other objects that could be used for violence.

The crackdown, which also included troops of riot police and drug enforcement officers, was intended to restore order following several outbreaks of violence between Algerian and Afghan migrants at the overcrowded camp.

"No risk, no life," a teenage migrant told me, before jumping on a freight train.

In the village of Ritsona, 50 miles north of Athens, razor wire dissects vineyards on a hillside. Inside the perimeter, crumbling concrete buildings and open fields, long abandoned by the Greek military, are now home to 700 refugees — some of the 50,000 or so trapped in limbo in this debt-ridden country since Europe slammed its borders closed a year ago.

When I enter the camp, a young man approaches, smiling. "My name is Bassem Omar, the King of Ritsona," he says. His Majesty, a 20-year-old refugee from Qamishli, Syria, offers a tour of his realm, and as we walk he's greeted by friends of all ages.

"I'm a good man, I'm reasonable," King Bassem says wryly. "I'm not like Bashar Assad. I told the people, 'I want to make Ritsona great again!' and the people agreed."

Police in Greece have arrested three Pakistani nationals for holding hostage 16 migrants without authorization to be in the country and demanding money for their release.

Police said Sunday that the three were "members of a human traffickers' network" and that 13 of the migrants they were holding were fellow Pakistanis, three of them minors.

Two of the held at a farmhouse outside the northern city of Thessaloniki were from India and one was from Nepal.

Police say all 16 crossed into Greece from Turkey about two weeks ago and that the people holding them demanded 2,500 euros ($2,654) from each to release them.

One of the Pakistani migrants escaped the farmhouse and notified police, who launched an operation Saturday night.

Over 100 people rescued at sea since Thursday

A total of 114 refugees and migrants have been rescued in three separate incidents in the area lying between the eastern Aegean islands of Lesvos and Chios since last Thursday, according to the Greek coast guard.

Meanwhile, 32 refugees and migrants arrived on Samos between Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. According to the latest data, 177 refugees and migrants arrived on islands of the eastern Aegean in the last four days.

Chios saw the lion's share with 107 people arriving since Friday. There are currently 3,183 migrants and asylum seekers on Lesvos, 3,718 on Chios and 1,780 on Samos.

On freight trains, migrants in Greece seek new routes north

It was Mohamed Khaleuf's third attempt to cross the Greek-Macedonian border hiding in a freight train and he had no plans to give up trying.

"I promised myself I would try five times. If I'm not successful, I will try to cross from somewhere else," said Khaleuf, a migrant from Morocco in his early twenties.

Khaleuf is among dozens of migrants, mostly young Moroccans, Tunisians and Algerians, who arrived in Greece in the last year and found shelter in old rusting carriages around a station in the outskirts of Greece's northern city of Thessaloniki.

From there, they monitor freight trains heading to central Europe. Whenever trains stop in the station, the migrants try to sneak into their compartments or jump in between wagons.

If they're lucky, they make it across unnoticed. Some said they plan to get off before the border and continue on foot. Often, they are arrested by Macedonian guards and sent back to Greece. No one can say how many have made it. A Greek government spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

More than a million refugees and migrants arrived in Europe in 2015, landing in Greece from Turkey and then streaming through the Balkans, heading north to Germany or Austria.

But that route shut in March last year following an agreement between the EU and Turkey, stranding about 60,000 people in makeshift and formal camps across Greece.

In the abandoned trains where Khaleuf and others live, conditions are grim, without electricity or running water. For food, they queue up at a nearby camp in a former toilet paper factory.

People come and go, leaving piles of garbage behind. Some carriages burnt down in accidents when migrants tried to warm up in freezing winter temperatures.

"Here we live like animals," said Habib, a 22-year-old Algerian who crossed from Turkey to the island of Rhodes and then hid under a truck on a ferry to Athens.

Together with a friend, he had made an attempt to leave Greece days earlier, leaping onto a train with his blue rucksack. Without documents, the pair were arrested in Macedonia and sent back.

Despite the dire conditions, many migrants choose the carriages over the camps as they can keep an eye on passing trains, they said.

Mustafa, a 32-year-old Algerian who arrived in Greece last October and in Thessaloniki in March, hoped to get out of there soon. "Tomorrow I hope to be in Macedonia!" he said.

Survey shows divided opinions on refugees

Only 5 percent of refugees currently living in Athens want to remain in Greece, with the rest all keen to continue their journeys toward western and northern Europe, particularly Germany, according to survey carried out by Public Issue on behalf of Athens City Hall's observatory for refugees and made public on Wednesday.

The same research showed that most Greeks want authorities to show solidarity to refugees and provide them with schooling and healthcare, but do not want them to stay in the country permanently.

Specifically, 66 percent of Athenians polled by Public Issue said they did not believe the presence of refugees in their neighborhood was a problem, with 57 percent in favor of showing support and 72 percent saying that child refugees should join local schools.

However, the same study found that 44 percent of Athenians regard refugees as a potential threat and 54 percent said they thought they could not be absorbed by Greek society.

A similar proportion, 44 percent, said they opposed long-delayed government plans to build a mosque in the capital.

Of an estimated 18,000 migrants living in the capital, between 2,500 and 3,000 are living in squats with the remainder in state-run facilities. At one of the capital's key reception centers, in Elaionas, downtown Athens, the average age of resident refugees is just 20.

At a press conference on Wednesday, presenting the findings of the research, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis said municipal authorities have already gone beyond the call of duty.

"We found ourselves facing the biggest humanitarian crisis since World War Two without any central planning," he said, with a clear dig at the government.

Raiskausten ja prostituutioon pakottamisen uhrit eivät voi paeta mihinkään, koska he asuvat samoilla pakolaisleireillä kuin heidän hyväksikäyttäjänsäkin. Moni ei myöskään uskalla ilmoittaa rikoksista poliisille. Tämä johtaa osaltaan myös yhä pahenevaan koston kierteeseen.

Eräällä kreikkalaisella pakolaisleirillä yksi pakolaisista oli mennyt naimisiin alaikäisen tytön kanssa ja sen jälkeen raiskannut toisen pienen tytön. Tämän seurauksena muut pakolaiset olivat piesseet miehen pahasti.

Avustustyöntekijät ovat raportoineet pakolaisleireillä toimivista rikollisjengeistä, jotka terrorisoivat ihmisiä.

Harvardin yliopiston raportin mukaan lapsilla ei käytännössä ole pakolaisleireillä yhtään mitään suojaa rikollisia vastaan.

Tuossa on se koko raportti. Käytännössä noista tekijöistä juuri kukaan ei joudu koskaan vastuuseen rikoksistaan, vaan sieltä leiriltä voi jatkaa muualle Eurooppaan muina miehinä. Although direct data on the number of unaccompanied children are not available, estimates can be made based on the referrals recorded by the Greek child protection agencies. Throughout 2016, 5,174 unaccompanied children were referred to the child protection system for services. Boys made up 91 percent of this population, 93 percent of them over 14 years of age. Mitä he kaikki tekevät kokonaan toisella mantereella? Jatkuiko väitetty henkilökohtainen vaino myös naapurimaissa ja kaikissa kauttakulkumaissa?

Between January 2015 and September 2016, over 664,500 migrant children claimed asylum in Europe, a third of all asylum claims made in Europe during the period. Within the first 10 months of 2016, asylum claims in Greece soared to 36,750, with 10,410 claims registered by children. (s. 15)

Annetaan rikollisten vapaasti salakuljettaa satojatuhansia alaikäisiä Eurooppaan ja kerätä tällä bisneksellä ainakin viisi miljardia euroa rikoshyötyä vuodessa. Jokainen riittävän maksukykyinen ja röyhkeä pääsee Eurooppaan. Ei ihme, että tulee ongelmia.

The forced cohabitation of hundreds of migrants of different cultural backgrounds, genders, and ages in inhumane conditions while facing an uncertain future and potential deportation has predictably generated anger, frustration, and hostility—sentiments that often spill over into acts of violence. Because of inadequate protective systems, women and children, who make up almost a half of the migrant population, face a particularly high risk of such violence.

Fights among adult migrants are commonplace, especially in the most overcrowded camps. Volunteers working in these camps report violent outbreaks, deriving from ethnic stereotypes and hostilities, among different nationalities and different religious groups. Several other factors also trigger incidents of violence or rioting. These include frustration with the quality or quantity of food and the method of its distribution, harsh living conditions, physical control over a part of the camp by a certain group of migrants, and acute feelings of despair and uncertainty. Asylum services themselves have occasionally become targets of violence. During these outbreaks, adults attack each other, start fires, and destroy tents and prefabricated containers, indiscriminately jeopardizing the lives of other migrants. (s. 16-17)

Monikulttuurisuutta käytännössä. Eri etniset ja uskonnolliset ryhmät tappelevat keskenään, välillä taas hyökätään henkilökunnan kimppuun tai sytytetään teltat palamaan.

Weak or non-existent protective and legal structures inside camps exacerbate the risk of violence among migrants. Children's inherent vulnerability and dependency on others, places them at a heightened risk for sexual violence. ...  According to the informants, most offenders are male adults who prey on unsuspecting migrant children and take advantage of those without proper adult supervision. They either act independently or as a part of criminal gangs active inside the camps. "The parents are still in disbelief over what happened. A man from one of the 'mafia' groups asked their seven-year-old daughter into their tent to play games on his phone and then zipped up the tent. She came back with marks on her arms and neck. Later, the girl described how she was sexually abused." (s. 19)

Ai seksuaaliseen väkivaltaan keskuksissa syyllistyvätkin juuri toisten turvapaikanhakijoiden muodostamat jengit, jotka sitten joukolla raiskaavat lapsia omissa teltoissaan? No enpä olisi ikinä uskonut.

"Especially in the camps where criminal gangs thrive, people do not want to talk, even though they know who the offender is, because they are afraid that, at night, their kids can become the next victims. This is why, in many cases, it is difficult to identify the offenders," indicates a stakeholder working with children. (s. 20)

Uhrit pelotellaan hiljaiseksi kunnon rauhanuskonnon tapaan.

"They [mafia gangs] take humiliating photos of children and then threaten the children with sending the photos to their families back home. This could be even worse than a violent act itself. Even if children survive physical or sexual abuse at their hands, the prospect of having their families know about this is even more devastating," (s. 22)

Raiskaukset kannattaa toki kuvata, koska kuvien julkaisemisella voi kiristää uhria myöhemmin. Jengi onkin tässä suhteessa erityisen näppärä, koska osa voi olla kuvaustehtävissä muiden painaessa varsinaisia hommia.

"Two identified female adult victims of trafficking have not been transferred to a safe house from the islands for two months now because two very important NGOs could not agree on who will manage the case." (s. 34)

Kaksi suvisorganisaatiota kiistelee siitä, että kumpi hoitaa apua ihmiskaupan uhreille. Uhrit tosin unohtuivat hyvien ihmisten ottaessa matsia keskenään.

At least eight drown as migrant boat sinks off Greece's Lesbos

At least eight people, including a child, drowned when an inflatable boat carrying refugees and migrants sank off Greece's Lesbos island, the Greek coastguard said on Monday.

The United Nation refugee agency UNHCR said the number of dead was at least 12. Citing survivors, it said 25 people were on board. Two survivors, one of whom is pregnant, were taken to the island's main hospital, the coastguard said.

Lesbos was the main gateway into the European Union in 2015 for nearly a million Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans who crossed from Turkey. A deal between the EU and Ankara in March last year has all but closed down that route.

Just over 4,800 refugees and migrants have crossed to Greece from Turkey this year, according to UNHCR data, and about 20 arrive on Greek islands each day. At least 173,000 people, mostly Syrians, landed in Greece in 2016.

Clashes between migrants leave one injured in central Athens

One migrant was injured near Victoria Square in central Athens late Sunday following violent clashes between different ethnic groups, according to reports.

A local cafe was damaged during the unrest, reports said.

Police briefly detained 12 suspects over the incident, reports said.

Migrants in the van - from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iraq, and Iran - are believed to have crossed from neighboring Turkey over a river that separates the two countries.

Tässäkin tapauksessa on kyse ihmisistä, jotka ovat lähteneet matkaann siinä uskossa, että kun vaan saa jalkansa Euroopan mantereelle, niin kaikki hyvä aukenee.  Salakuljettajat tarjoutuvat tietenkin unelmien välikäsiksi.  Mutta miksi?  No, esim. Suomessa pääministerit, niin ent. kuin nykyisetkin, ent. presidentti, piispat, papit, kansanedustajat jne., ilmaisevat suureen ääneen, että tänne saa tulla, eikä ketään saa lähettää takaisin.  Niin onko ihme, että sieltä yritetään tulla kaikin keinoin?  Olisiko nyt Halosella ja kumppaneilla miettimisen paikka, ettei näitä murhenäytelmiä nähtäisi jatkossakin?
