BREAKING: Eight men guilty of sexual abuse in Rotherham

A ROTHERHAM child abuse investigation has seen eight men found guilty of sexually abusing three girls.

The eight men were found guilty of offences that took place between 1999 and 2003.

Sageer Hussain, Mohammed Whied, Ishtiaq Khaliq, Waleed Ali, Asif Ali, Masoued Malik, Basharat Hussain and Naeem Rafiq will be sentenced on November 4.

The month-long trial at Sheffield Crown Court heard how the men "sexualised" their victims and, in some instances, subjected them to acts of a "degrading and violent nature".

One girl and her family told police, their MP and the then home secretary David Blunkett about the abuse and eventually moved to Spain to get away from the men.

The jury retired to consider verdicts on October 11 and today convicted all eight gang members on all counts after deliberating for almost 18 hours.

Ringleader Sageer Hussain, 30, of Clough Road, Rotherham, was convicted of four rapes and one indecent assault.

Mohammed Whied, 32, of Psalters Lane, Rotherham, was found guilty of one count of aiding and abetting rape.

Ishtiaq Khaliq, 33, of Cherry Brook, Rotherham, was found guilty of one rape and three indecent assaults.

Waleed Ali, 34, of Canklow Road, Rotherham, was found guilty of one rape and one indecent assault.

Asif Ali, 30, of Clough Road, Rotherham, was convicted on one rape.

Masoued Malik, 32, of Bridgewater Way, Rotherham, was found guilty of one rape, one count of conspiracy to commit indecent assault and one of false imprisonment.

Basharat Hussain, 40, from Goole, was convicted of one indecent assault.

And Naeem Rafiq, 33, of Clarendon Road, Rotherham, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit indecent assault and one of false imprisonment.

They were remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.

The court heard that the victim who eventually fled to Spain had gone to the police in 2003, saying she had been repeatedly raped by Sageer Hussain when she was 13.

Michelle Colborne QC, prosecuting, told the jury the girl, now in her late 20s, and her family withdrew the allegations due to threats.

But the court was also told that police lost the girl's clothes without carrying out any forensic analysis.

The family tried to get help from social services as well and took the girl out of school before eventually moving abroad.

An official inquiry into exploitation in Rotherham in 2014 by Professor Alexis Jay concluded that 1,400 children had been raped, trafficked and attacked between 1997 and 2013 by gangs of largely Asian men, and that the victims were effectively ignored.

Ms Colborne said the court case was about three victims "who were sexualised and, in some instances, subjected to acts of a degrading and violent nature at the hands of these men".

She said Hussain played a "key role" and was "instrumental in befriending young girls who were flattered that he and his friends spent time with them".

They were then exploited by Hussain, his friends, older brothers and associates.

2016-12-01 National Police Chiefs´ Council: Around 350 victims have come forward to report child sexual abuse within football clubs

Following ongoing and widespread publicity surrounding allegations of child sexual abuse within football, many police forces across the country have received a significant number of calls, both reporting further allegations and offering information.

Current figures, collated from information supplied by forces to Operation Hydrant and including referrals from the NSPCC helpline, suggest a total of around 350 victims have come forward to report child sexual abuse.

National Police Chiefs' Council Lead for Child Protection, Chief Constable Simon Bailey said,

"It is important to note that this is an indicative figure only, and that information is still being collated, numbers will, therefore, continue to change.

"We are working closely with the Football Association to ensure that the response to this significant and growing number of victims, at all levels of football, is coordinated effectively.

2016-12-21 West Midlands Police: Five men convicted of child sexual exploitation

Five Coventry men have been convicted of a string of sexual offences and human trafficking against young girls after a six week trial at Leamington Justice Centre.

The jury returned a unanimous verdict today (Wednesday 21 December) after hearing how the gang, led by 24-year-old Waqaar Khan, used social media over a period of months to contact teenage girls and groom them before arranging to meet them with the promise of gifts and shopping trips.

Six teenage girls, five of them under the age of 16, gave evidence to the court detailing how they had been targeted which included being picked up by taxis and taken to parties, or just dropped off at car parks where the men would ply them with alcohol and drugs.

All five have been found guilty of 18 charges against two of the girls, including human trafficking, sexual assault and rape.

The defendants were found guilty of the following charges:

Waqaar Khan, 24 − Two counts of human trafficking and three of rape
Kadeem Bourne, 23 − Two counts of human trafficking, one of sexual assault and one of rape
Marcus Woolcock, 22 − One count each of human trafficking and sexual assault
Zahid Choudhary, 20 − One count of human trafficking
Kenan Kelly, 18 − One count of human trafficking, one of sexual assault and two counts of rape

Sentencing will take place on 20 January 2017.

BBC Coventry: 'Evil' men raped and trafficked teenage girls in Coventry

West Midlands Police described them as "brazen, calculating and evil".

The uncle of one of the girls described them as "despicable rats". He said: "They're out there prowling through social media acting on vulnerable girls and abusing the life out of them for their own satisfaction and videoing them for their gratification - they're just treating them like pieces of meat."

The sentencing marks the end of a series of three major trials after the Jay Report on child sexual exploitation (CSE) in Rotherham.

Professor Alexis Jay's report, in 2014, provoked a wave of shock when she described how more than 1,400 children had been groomed, trafficked and raped in the town over a 16-year period.

The investigation that resulted in Thursday's sentences, called Operation Thunder, is the last into CSE in Rotherham to be led by police.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) has taken over all historic Rotherham CSE investigations with a team of more than 100 working on over a dozen inquiries.

Last year, the NCA said it had engaged with 133 victims and survivors but investigators were confident that Prof Jay was right when she said in her report that the total was around 1,400.

Child sex ring jailed for 81 years for "vile" abuse of two Rotherham girls

SIX men who sexually abused two "naive and vulnerable" young girls in Rotherham more than a decade ago have been jailed for a total of 81-and-a-half years.

Three brothers and three other men were sentenced for 19 "vile" offences committed against two girls including rape and false imprisonment at Sheffield Crown Court today.

Five of the men were convicted at Sheffield Crown Court last Wednesday of sexually exploiting two young girls at flats on Fitzwilliam Road in Eastwood, while another admitted before the trial to sexually abusing one of the victims.

Brothers Basharat Dad (32) of Eldon Road, Eastwood, Nasar Dad (36) of Cranworth Road, Eastwood, and Tayab Dad (34) of St Lawrence Road, Tinsley, were convicted of 16 offences between them.

Basharat was jailed for 20 years after being convicted of six counts of rape, five of indecent assault and one of false imprisonment.

Nasar was jailed for 14-and-a-half years  for one count of rape, inciting indecency with a child and false imprisonment and Tayab will spend 10 years behind bars for rape.

Matloob Hussain (42) of Doncaster Road, Thrybergh, and Mohammed Sadiq (40) of Oxley Grove, Broom, were both found guilty of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13.

Hussain and Sadiq were both jailed for 13 years.

Amjad Ali (38), of Worksop, admitted before the trial to sexual intercourse with a girl under 13. He was jailed for 11 years.

Rochdale grooming gang are facing deportation to Pakistan after immigration judges rejected their plea not to strip them of British citizenship

Four members of a child sex grooming gang are facing deportation to Pakistan after immigration judges rejected their appeals against their British citizenship being revoked.

Ringleader Shabir Ahmed, Adil Khan, Abdul Rauf and Abdul Aziz, all from Rochdale, had their cases thrown out.

The men had appealed against moves by the Government to strip them of their British citizenship.

But their claims were dismissed on all grounds by the Upper Tribunal of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber.

The ruling paves the way for the men, all of Pakistani nationality who acquired British citizenship by naturalisation, to be removed from the UK.

Ahmed was convicted in 2012 of being the ringleader of a group of Asian men who preyed on girls as young as 13 in Rochdale, plying them with drink and drugs before they were 'passed around' for sex.

He was given a 19-year sentence at Liverpool Crown Court in May 2012 for a string of child sex offences, including rape.

He was also jailed for 22 years, to run concurrently, in July 2012 for 30 rapes against another victim.

Taxi driver Rauf, 47, a father-of-five, was released on licence in 2015 after serving half of a six-year sentence for trafficking a girl, aged 15, in the UK for sex, and for having sex with the youngster himself.

Handing down the judgment, Mr Justice Bernard McCloskey, president of the Upper Tribunal, said the cases were 'of some notoriety', and described the men's crimes as 'shocking, brutal and repulsive'.

He dismissed five different grounds of appeal - including an argument advanced by three of the men that the Government had failed in a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of their children.

The ruling also dismissed a complaint of a 'disproportionate interference' with the men's rights as EU citizens and rejected claims concerning human rights laws.

Despite the ruling, the legal battle to deport the men could drag on for some time.

There are further steps the Home Office must complete and the men will be able to appeal at later stages in the process.

The four can apply for permission to appeal against Thursday's decision.

Applications can only be made on a question of law, and permission is granted in less than 10% of cases.

Ahmed, known as Daddy, previously took his case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) claiming that his all-white jury was biased – a breach of Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, guaranteeing a fair trial.

But judges in Strasbourg unanimously threw out his case, insisting that there was 'simply no proof' jurors acted improperly.

Earlier this week Justice McCloskey, Britain's most senior immigration judge has criticised taxpayer-funded lawyers of being 'cavalier and unprofessional' in helping them in their bid to stay in the country.

He launched the damning attack in response to the appeal against their deportation, ordered by then-Home Secretary Theresa May in 2012.

Justice McCloskey made the comments about the gang's solicitors, Nottingham-based firm Burton and Burton, in an immigration tribunal.

Justice McCloskey said: 'The conduct of these appeals has been cavalier and unprofessional. The rule of law has been weakened in consequence.'

The judge also threatened the legal team with disciplinary action, warning them their actions could be in contempt of court.

He added: 'Scarce judicial and administrative resources have been wasted in dealing with repeated unmeritorious requests by the Appellants' solicitors for an adjournment.'

2017-03-23 West Yorkshire Police: 29 Defendants Charged With Non-Recent Child Sexual Offences

Police in Kirklees have charged 29 people with numerous offences including Rape, Trafficking with intent to engage in sexual exploitation, sexual activity with a child, child neglect, child abduction, supply of Class A drugs and possession and making of indecent images of children.

The allegations against the defendants are non-recent sexual offences, having occurred between 2004 and 2011 and relate to 18 women. The offences were committed against them as children in the Huddersfield area and are alleged to have taken place while the women were aged between 11 and 17-years-old.

The defendants have been released on police bail and they will appear at Huddersfield Magistrates Court on 12 April 2017.

2017-03-28 Thames Valley Police: Child sexual exploitation warrants executed – Banbury

Approximately 120 uniformed officers executed the warrants at 10 properties in Banbury and one in Birmingham this morning and a total of seven men have been arrested in connection with child sexual exploitation offences.

The offences relate to three female victims in Banbury between 2008 and 2015.

2017-03-30 Thames Valley Police: Child sexual exploitation warrants executed – Oxford

Around 80 uniformed officers executed the warrants at six properties in Oxford this morning and a total of six men have been arrested in connection with child sexual exploitation offences.

The offences relate to three female victims between 2008 and 2015.
