^ Tietenkään ei ole yhteyttä "vallankaappaukseen". Sattui vaan mukavasti samaan aikaan puhdistuksen kanssa niinkuin Kivivuoren Otto-vainaa saattaisi todeta.

Tavallaan on hienoa aikaa kun ei edes tarvitse sanoa "mitäs minä sanoin" suvakkituttaville. Silti tämä jatkuvasti oikeassa olememinen ottaa jostain syystä rankasti kupoliin. Mistähän se johtuu?

Eli EU antoi Erdoganille 6 mrd euroa pelirahaa laittaa geopolitiikka uusiksi.

Näin meillä on se #unelma ...

Tuo oli vain yksi vaatimus. Toinen oli EU-jäsenyys nopeutetulla aikataululla, josta alkajaisiksi viisumivapaus EU:hun. Nerokas suunnitelma oli, että Syyriasta ei anneta pakolaisten tulla, mutta sen sijaan heille oli tarkoitus antaa Turkin kansalaisuus jonka jälkeen viisumivapaus EU:hun.

Kolmas ja kaikkein merkittävin oli painostaa NATO-ilmatuki hyökkäykselle 'turvavyöhykkeen' aikaansaamiseksi Jarabuluksen kaupungin tienoille, jotta sinne olis voitu säilöä pakolaisia, no-flight zonen turvin. Todellinen tarkoitus tottakai oli estää kolmea Syyrian kurdivyöhykettä yhdistymästä, joista kaksi on jo yhdistynyt ja turvata ISIS-huoltoreitit ja öljykauppa - mikä tuskin enää lentokenttäiskun jälkeen on ohjelmassa. Tämä ei tietty toteutunut, koska Venäjä ehti laittaa omat no-flight zonensa S-400 järjestelmällä ensin. Tuo aihe saattaisi liittyä outoon NATOn Merkelin linjaa lobbaavaan kantaan kohtaan viime syksyltä, jota olen kummastellut. Kai siinä oli jotain Erdoganin painostusta taustalla, ja klassinen juttu että taakanjakoonhan nämä liittoumat perustuvat, eivätkä mihinkään myyttisiin arvoihin. Monelle tuntuu kyllä kiistatta oudolta ajatella, että miljoona matua Eurooppaan vanhan ottomaani-valloituksen hengessä - koska jonkun Syyrian enklaavin hallinta. Mutta noin sekopäistä politiikka on, ja vuodessa onkin jo monta käännettä tapahtunut.

Top Turkish Official In Charge Of Campaign Against ISIS Found Dead, Shot In The Neck

By now only the most naive believe the official narrative behind Turkey's Friday coup.

We say that for two reasons: first, as even the EU commissioner dealing with Turkey's membership bid, Johannes Hahn, said when discussing the unprecedented arrest purge in Turkey, "it looks at least as if something has been prepared. The lists are available, which indicates it was prepared and to be used at a certain stage. I'm very concerned. It is exactly what we feared."  He did not exlaborate what exactly he had feared, but one can infer; second, as we caught Turkey's press openly changing the narrative, Erdogan was not even able to figure out who to blame for the "coup attempt" until this afternoon, first accusing the US, then the former Turkish air force chief, before finally deciding on accusing the 77-year-old Pennsylvania resident, Fethullah Gulen, of being the frail mastermind behind it all.

To be sure, the western media was happy to glance over these "changeovers" and to spoonfeed a false story to the masses just to maintain the illusion of the official Turkish narrative.

An example of this is when Erdogan told CNN earlier today that "he escaped death by only a few minutes before coup plotters stormed the resort in southwest Turkey where he was vacationing last weekend. Erdogan's interview was broadcast late Monday. He told CNN that soldiers supporting the coup killed two of his bodyguards when they stormed the resort early Saturday. "Had I stayed 10, 15 additional minutes, I would have been killed or I would have been taken," he told CNN through a translator provided by the presidency."

And yet, less than a day earlier we wrote that even though "Coup Pilots Had Erdogan's Plane In Their Sights" they did nothing, prompting a former military officer "with knowledge of the events" to ask "why they didn't fire is a mystery." So just hours before two F-16 had radar lock on Erdogan and decided not to kill the dictator, troops from the same alleged "coup" were scrambling to get to Erdogan - many hours after the so-called coup had already started - in his resort hotel, and where they would have killed him... had he stayed "10, 15 additional minutes."

We can see why not even the Europeans believe this any more.

Then another example of the media forced - and false - narrative came from the Guardian which earlier today published a piece titled "Military coup was well planned and very nearly succeeded, say Turkish officials" which contains pearls, such as the following:

It was midnight in the Turkish capital, just two and a half hours into the attempted coup, and the group of nine senior ministers who were gathered in a conference room at the prime ministry were convinced that they were all about to meet their end. "They probably will be successful and we will die tonight," said one of the ministers, according to an official who was present at the meeting. "Let us be ready to die. We will all be martyred in this fight."

Such drama... makes you feel like you were almost there.

Not surprisingly, the bulk of the piece by Kareem Shaheen is poor on facts but heavy on florid descriptions, interpretations, hearsay and all those other literary techniques that make for a good piece of fiction. Some more examples:

But as Turkey picks up the pieces after the failed coup, new details are emerging of how it unfolded, and just how close the military intervention came to succeeding. Many observers have labelled the attempt amateurish, but accounts by officials contradict this characterisation, describing it as well organised and very nearly successful.

In Ankara on Friday, the day of the coup, the interior minister had been invited, along with other top officials, to a high-level security meeting in military headquarters that was supposed to take place after 5pm, a ploy that turned out to be intended as a pretext to detain him. He did not go because he was too busy, and later when the coup unfolded he was stuck in Ankara's Esenbo?a airport, setting up a crisis cell there to manage the fallout, protected by crowds that had gathered to oppose the coup.

Again, zero actual facts. Not surprisingly, the author himself catches this tangent of his "story:

Stories emerged of those crucial hours, between the president's address and the successful quelling of the coup by 4am, that are sure to pass into the official mythology of the events. At 1am, officials say the police chief the city of Bursa arrested the local army commander, who possessed a 6-page list that included the names of designated judges and military officials who were to be appointed to various positions in the bureaucracy in the aftermath of the coup. Other pro-coup soldiers possessed lists of secure telephone lines to receive orders.

Why he would give himself up knowing he would most likely face death if i) the coup was real and ii) Erdogan remained in power... well, let's not worry about that.

But then, painfully, we finally stumbled on something which could be factually disproven, i.e. a precious fact. And it may shine a far different light on what happened during the chaos of the staged coup. It was the following:

The top counter-terrorism official responsible for Turkey's campaign against Islamic State did go to a "meeting" at the presidential palace in Ankara. He was later found with his hands tied behind his back, shot in the neck, according to a senior official.

And suddenly so many pieces of the Turkish "puzzle" fall into place, because while the rest of the narrative about the coup is so glaringly fabricated and literally made up on the spot, the death of Turkey's chief anti-ISIS counter-terrorism official being quietly killed, makes so much sense sense for a country where as we first presented back in November, "The Man Who Funds ISIS is Bilal Erdogan, The Son Of Turkey's President" followed by "ISIS Oil Trade Full Frontal: "Raqqa's Rockefellers", Bilal Erdogan, KRG Crude, And The Israel Connection", and of course, "Erdogan Says Will Resign If Oil Purchases From ISIS Proven After Putin Says Has "More Proof."

Having arrested 20,000 people already, Erdogan's witch hunts are just starting. However, it appears he had some very loose ends he had to take care of already on Friday night. One such loose end was the man who fought ISIS on behalf of Turkey, the same Turkey which - incidentally - funded and armed ISIS.

We eagerly look forward to finding out what else will emerge as the fascinating story of Erdogan's getting rid of all loose ends, is finally revealed.

There's more to Turkey's failed coup than meets the eye

Russian President Vladimir Putin did on Sunday what no major western leader from the NATO member countries cared to do when he telephoned his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan to convey his sympathy, goodwill and best wishes for the latter's success in restoring constitutional order and stability as soon as possible after the attempted coup Friday night. (Kremlin website)

The US Secretary of State John Kerry instead made an overnight air dash to Brussels to have a breakfast meeting on Monday with the EU foreign ministers to discuss a unified stance on the crisis in Turkey. The French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault was in an angry mood ahead of the breakfast, saying "questions" have arisen as to whether Turkey is any longer a "viable" ally. He voiced "suspicions" over Turkey's intentions and insisted that European backing for Erdogan against the coup was not a "blank cheque" for him to suppress his opponents.

The US has expressed displeasure regarding the Turkish allegations of an American hand in the failed coup. Indeed, Turkish allegation has no precedent in NATO's 67-year old history – of one member plotting regime change in another member country through violent means. Clearly, US and Turkey are on a collision course over the extradition of the Islamist preacher Fetullah Gulen living in exile in Pennsylvania whom the Turkish government has named as the key plotter behind the coup. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has warned that Ankara will regard the US as an "enemy" if it harbored Gulen. The dramatic developments expose the cracks appearing in the western alliance system. Interestingly, the senior Turkish army officials detained so far include the following:

Commander of the Incirlik air base (and 10 of his subordinates) where NATO forces are located and 90 percent of the US' tactical nuclear weapons in Europe are stored;

Army Commander in charge of the border with Syria and Iraq;

Corps Commander who commands the NATO contingency force based in Istanbul; and,

Former military attaches in Israel and Kuwait.

Most certainly, the needle of suspicion points toward the Americans having had some knowledge of the coup beforehand. Two F-16 aircraft and two 'tankers' to provide mid-air refuelling for them and used in the coup attempt actually took off from Incirlik.

Of course, Ankara has been wary of the US and France establishing military bases in northern Syria with the support of local Kurdish tribes, which it suspected would be a stepping stone leading to the creation of a 'Kurdistan'. (The advisor on foreign affairs to Iran's supreme leader, Ali Akbar Velayati, who is an influential figure in Tehran alleged on Sunday that the US is attempting to create a Kurdistan state carved out of neighboring countries with Kurdish population, which will be a "second Israel" in the Middle East to serve Washington's regional interests.)

Today, the famous Saudi whistleblower known as 'Mujtahid' has come out with a sensational disclosure that the UAE played a role in the coup and had kept Saudi Arabia in the loop. Also, the deposed ruler of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani (who is a close friend of Erdogan) has alleged that the US, another Western country (presumably France) had staged the coup and that Saudi Arabia was involved in it. (here and here) Meanwhile, word has leaked to the media that in a closed-door briefing to the Iranian parliament on Sunday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif hinted at Saudi and Qatari involvement in the coup.

Putin's phone call to Erdogan suggests the possibility that Russian and Turkish intelligence are keeping in touch. The two leaders have agreed to meet shortly.

The timing of the coup attempt – following the failure of the US push to establish a NATO presence in the Black Sea and in the wake of the Russian-Turkish rapprochement – becomes significant. Equally, the signs of shift in Turkey's interventionist policies in Syria would have unnerved the US and its regional allies.

Israel, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have a great deal to lose if Turkey establishes ties with Syria, which is on the cards. Thus, stopping Erdogan on his tracks has become an urgent imperative for these countries. The spectre of the Syrian government regaining control over the country's territory haunts Israel, which has been hoping that a weakened and fragmented Syria would work to its advantage to permanently annex the occupied territories in the Golan Heights. Again, Turkey's abandonment of the 'regime change' agenda in Syria means a geopolitical victory for Iran. On the contrary, a triumphant and battle-hardened Hezbollah next door means that its vast superiority in conventional military strength will be rendered even more irrelevant in countering the resistance movement. Significantly, Israel is keeping stony silence.

Will the US and its regional allies simply throw in the towel or will bide their time to make a renewed bid to depose Erdogan? That is the big question. Erdogan's popularity is soaring sky-high today within Turkey. He can be trusted to complete the 'vetting' process to purge the Gulenists ensconced in the state apparatus and the armed forces. The meeting of the High Military Council due in August to decide on the retirement, promotions and transfers of the military top brass gives Erdogan the free hand to remove the Gulenists

Erdogan has nine lives, survives Gulen's coup


Turkish authorities have just stopped short of alleging that the abortive military coup last night has geopolitical significance. The hints are coming in driblets.

President Recep Erdogan is on record that the coup was masterminded by the followers of Fetullah Gulen, the Islamist preacher operating out of the US. Then, the justice minister repeated the allegation.

The state-run Anadolu news agency since named Colonel Moharrem Kose as the leader of the coup. Kose used be an officer in the Turkish armed forces who was dishonourably discharged in March 2006 for links with Gulen's shadowy organisation.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Melih Gokcek, Mayor of Ankara and a close political associate of Erdogan, came up with a stunning disclosure that the coup's participants included an officer belonging to Gulen's organization who was also involved in the killing of a Russian pilot in Syria last November. Gokcek said:

It was the 'parallel state' that has deteriorated our relations with Russia. It was an incident, in which one of the pilots of this structures has participated, I guarantee it. He was one of the coup's participants. We have not voiced it until now. But I, Melih Gokcek, say that our relations have been deteriorated by these villains.


Of course, a need arises to connect the dots. Gulen fled to the US in 1998 when the Turkish intelligence began investigating his followers who had infiltrated the Turkish state security agencies and the armed forces and the judiciary.

In 2008, Gulen got the 'green card', which was apparently on the recommendation by two top CIA officials. He has since been living in recluse in Pennsylvania and never left the US on a visit abroad.

A former chief of Turkish intelligence Osman Nuri Gundes wrote in his memoirs in 2011 that Gulen's network provided a cover for the CIA to conduct covert operations in the former Soviet republics of Central Asia as part of the US strategy to use political Islam as an instrument of regional policies.

Indeed, from his vast and luxurious estate in Saylosberg in a remote part of eastern Pennsylvania, heavily guarded and out of bounds for visitors, Gulen launched a network of mosques and madresses in the Central Asian countries. (Interestingly, Russia and Uzbekistan banned Gulen's 'schools'.)

Now, the coup attempt in Turkey comes in the wake of the Turkish-Russian rapprochement and nascent signs of a shift in Erdogan's interventionist policies in Syria. Of course, Turkey is a 'pivotal state' in the US' regional strategies and the Turkish-Russian rapprochement comes at a most awkward time for Washington, since:

It is a 'force multiplier' for Moscow's efforts to strengthen the Syrian regime;


It promises to revive the stalled Turkish Stream gas pipeline project (the $15 billion project to transport Russian gas via Turkey to southern Europe) as well as the construction of the $20 billion nuclear power plants in Turkey with Russian reactors;


It blocks the US plans to establish permanent NATO presence in the Black Sea (which requires Turkey's cooperation in terms of Montreaux Convention of 1936 whereby non-Black Sea countries cannot permanently keep warships in those waters);


It may jeopardise the US operations in Iraq and Syria which heavily depend on Incirlik base in Turkey;


It works against the balkanization of Syria;


Turkey's foreign-policy orientation changes on the whole; and,


It works against Israeli, Saudi, Qatari interests in Syria.


Erdogan too is a savvy politician and will keep the Americans guessing. But the Sultan knows that god has given him a fresh lease of life – and make no mistake, he will remain wary of US intentions.

A coup is always a gambit. The plotters of the coup miscalculated that the bulk of the Turkish military would support the overthrow of the authoritarian president who has imposed civilian supremacy on the Pashas. But Erdogan's masterstroke to bring in "people's power" into the streets took them by surprise – reminiscent of Boris Yeltsin's act in putting down the coup attempt in 1990.

Erdogan is a charismatic politician and has survived thanks to his sheer popularity. In the 2014 poll he secured a clear-cut mandate with 51% support of the electorate. Now, the secularists, 'Kemalists' and right-wing nationalists also rally against the coup. That makes a massive support base.

Gulen now becomes a serious issue between Washington and Ankara. There is no likelihood of Washington agreeing to the extradition of Gulen, who is a 'strategic asset'. (Read the riveting piece on Gulen in the Open Democracy entitled What is Fetullah Gulen's real mission?)

Näen hyviäkin puoli tässä coupissa. Jos Turkki lähtee sotajalalle niin meillä Pan-turanisteilla on mahdollisuus hoidella kurdit ja loputkin armeenit. Sen jäljeen Turkmenistan, Azerbaidzhan ja Georgia ovat anneksoitavissa. Lopulta suunnaksi Mongolia. Julistan sen jälkeen Suomen osaksi Pan-turania ja Venäjän viholliseksi.

ISIS on ihan pilipalipuuhastelua mitä Turkki pystyy tekemään. Turkissa tahti on tällä hetkellä kovempi kuin 1933 kun Hitler aloitti valtakunnan muokkaamisen uuteen uskoon. Turkkiin pistetään pystyyn nyt oikeasti sitä kalifaattia josta isis haaveili ja EU katselee peukalo perseessä vierestä.

Minulla on tunne että asiat Turkissa voivat mennä todella nopeasti huonoksi. En tiedä mistä tämä tunne syntyy ja toivon että olen perusteellisesti väärässä. Kenties alitajunta prosessoi Turkista tulevia uutisia ja muodostaa murusista väärän johtopäätöksen. Tai oikean.

Paikalliselta tietoa, saattaa olla osin huhujakin: 36000 opettajan lisenssit poistettu, yliopistoissa meneillään dekaanien puhdistus.
Valtion viroissa olevien lomat peruttu. Ulkomaille ei pääse vihreällä ja harmaalla passeilla.
Somessa presidenttiä vastaan kirjoittaneita pidätetty.

Lomien peruutuksen voin vahvistaa. Voi perse, jos passi rajoitus pitää paikkansa. Niitä on jaettu juurikin sekulaarille yläluokalle, virkamiehille eli kunnon ihmisille ja sillä pääsi Schengen alueelle. Eli ihmisten pelastaminen massamurhilta menee vaikeaksi.

Turkin presidentti Erdoganin yli 50 miljoonan euron vuositulot, supershoppaileva vaimo Emine ja yli 2 000 euroa per rulla maksanut silkkitapetti kylpyhuoneessa. Turkin hallitsijapari asuu 600 miljoonan euron palatsissaan, joka tihkuu kultaa.

Turkki johtaa Etelä-Euroopan ja vähemmän kehittyneiden Euroopan maiden kuten Unkarin ja Romania lapsiköyhyystilastoa. 63 prosenttia alle 15-vuotiaista lapsista asuu köyhyysrajan alapuolella.

Romaniassa 36, Kreikassa 16,5 ja Italiassa 12,4 prosenttia alle 15-vuotiaista lapsista on köyhyysrajan alla.

20 miljoonasta Turkin maaseudulla asuvasta ihmisestä yli kaksi miljoonaa elää köyhyysrajan alla ansaiten vain reilut kolme euroa päivässä.

ISIS on ihan pilipalipuuhastelua mitä Turkki pystyy tekemään. Turkissa tahti on tällä hetkellä kovempi kuin 1933 kun Hitler aloitti valtakunnan muokkaamisen uuteen uskoon. Turkkiin pistetään pystyyn nyt oikeasti sitä kalifaattia josta isis haaveili ja EU katselee peukalo perseessä vierestä.

Tähän kohtaan sopisi Estonian radistin viimeiset sanat ennenkuin koko paska upposi: "Todella paha, todella pahalta näyttää se nyt tässä kyllä."

Onneksi viisumivapaushanke sentään meni tauolle kun paras kesälomakausi alkoi. Nyt ei tarvii ottaa pakolaiseksi ihan mitä tahansa sieltä tulee.

No voi hitto, on siinä kuoppaamista, jos se meinaa kaikki nuo tapattaa. 

Katynin puhdistuksissa Stalin tapatti ja kuopasi 22000 puolalaista n. kuukauden aikana ja ihan perinteisellä niskalaukauksella. Ei tuo kovin suuri operaatio sinänsä ole.
