NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley spoke candidly about the problems facing the black community when appearing on a Philadelphia radio station, accusing "unintelligent," "brainwashed" African-Americans of keeping successful ones down.

"Unfortunately, as I tell my white friends, we as black people, we're never going to be successful, not because of you white people, but because of other black people. When you're black, you have to deal with so much crap in your life from other black people. It's a dirty, dark secret; I'm glad it's coming out."

Barkley said that young black men who do well in school are accused of "acting white" by their peers. "One of the reasons we're never going to be successful as a whole, because of other black people. And for some reason we are brainwashed to think, if you're not a thug or an idiot, you're not black enough.

Väite on totuuden mukainen, mutta hyvin hienovarainen. Mustat ovat myös itse este omalle menestykselleen. Vain valkoisten tavoin käyttäytyvä musta voi menestyä. Pätevyyden, uutteruuden ja rehellisyyden myötä mustakin muuttuu valkoiseksi. Ja päinvastoin, valkoinenkin muuttuu mustaksi, jos laiskuus, rikollisuus ja oppimattomuus kiinnostavat enemmän kuin aiemmin mainitsemani arvot.

Former NBA star Charles Barkley recently called Ferguson looters "scumbags," praised police officers who work in black neighborhoods, and said he supports the decision made by the grand jury not to indict officer Darren Wilson in the Michael Brown shooting.

"The true story came out from the grand jury testimony," Barkley said, adding that he was made aware of "key forensic evidence, and several black witnesses that supported Officer Darren Wilson's story..." He continued, "I can't believe anything I hear on television anymore. And, that's why I don't like talking about race issues with the media anymore, because they (the media) love this stuff, and lead people to jump to conclusions. The media shouldn't do that. They never do that when black people kill each other. "

Regardless of the feedback he gets on his Ferguson comments, Barkley made it clear on the Philadelphia radio show that he will continue to share his thoughts on the Ferguson decision and on race in America, telling listeners, "I ain't shutting up and I ain't backing down."
