HUNDREDS of hospital staff reacted with fury yesterday after being barred from getting into work by an illegal camp of ­French ­gypsies "on holiday" in their car park.

They vented their anger on social ­networking sites – but one of the gypsies shrugged off the fuss saying: "We will not stay long – this is a holiday. We live in Nice and Paris and will go home soon."

Senior management diverted staff to ­alternative car parks after they were prevented from driving into the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, South Wales, when ­travellers took 65 out of 300 spaces.

Staff were able to walk back to the hospital but executives are now taking legal advice after a failed bid to persuade the ­gypsies to take their caravans off the site immediately.

One member of staff said: "Finding a parking space is bad enough normally without this ­happening first thing.

"I find it infuriating this situation can be allowed to continue until the families decide to move themselves on. There are doctors and other medical staff who work on ­emergency cases around the clock. They are being forced to park some distance away."

Hospital visitor Terry Jones, 64, added: "Someone could suffer because a doctor is late for their shift.

"It just shouldn't be allowed to happen."

About 14 caravans were moved on to the car park, which serves 3,400 staff at the 750-bed hospital, over the weekend.

The gypsies also brought a fleet of luxury cars including two Mercedes, a BMW X6 and Volkswagen.

A hospital spokesman said management had acted swiftly to minimise disruption and that security was available from 6am to 10pm.

The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, which runs the hospital, said on its website: "There was nothing we could do to stop this happening.

"But we are taking legal advice to resolve the situation as soon as possible."

Viranomaiset olisivat voineet kehottaa asianomaisia poistumaan välittömästi ja sen jälkeen pidättää jokaisen, joka ei käskyä tottele. Ei se sen monimutkaisempaa ole.

Nykyään se, että joku pelkästään on joko mustalainen, muslimi, neekeri tai yleensä ulkomaalainen jostakin haistapaska -maasta saa viranomaiset ja poliittiset päättäjät imemään peukaloaan ja taantumaan täysin toimintakyvyttömäksi.

Psykologisessa mielessä mielenkiintoinen pelkoreaktio, yhteiskunnallisessa mielessä hävettävää kyvyttömyyttä.
