2009-05-13 Tanska solmi palautussopimuksen Irakin kanssa

Tanska solmi toukokuussa Irakin kanssa palautussopimuksen, joka mahdollistaa myös ei-vapaaehtoiset palautukset Irakiin. Ruotsi on tehnyt vastaavan sopimuksen helmikuussa 2008, jonka jälkeen maasta turvapaikkaa hakevien irakilaisten määrä tippui kolmasosaan.

Suomen neuvotteluista - jos niitä edes käydään - ei ole kuulunut mitään uutta. Hallituksen politiikkariihen kannanotossa 24.2. "jatketaan valmisteluja palautussopimusten solmimiseksi Afganistanin ja Irakin kanssa". Rahasta/lahjuksista varmaan hiertää, mutta niissä ei kannattaisi pihtailla. Viivyttely maksaa helposti kymmeniä miljoonia.

Denmark signs agreement with Iraq on returns

Denmark has signed an agreement with Iraq to send back to Iraq rejected asylum-seekers from Denmark. The Danish agreement follows the example of Sweden, which has had an agreement with Iraq on returns for many years. The Danish authorities hope that most of the roughly 280 rejected Iraqi asylum-seekers would return home voluntarily, but under the new agreement, they might also be returned forcibly. Many of the Iraqis have live in Denmark for years, some close to ten years, moving from one asylum centre to another without a possibility for work or education. According to the agreement, Iraq has promised to cooperate on the returns and has ensured that the returnees can return home without fear of persecution
