Vuonna 2008 Norja tiukensi turvapaikkapolitiikkaansa, tiukennuksen seurauksena turvapaikanhakijoiden määrä on laskenut 50%. Afgaanien kohdalla laskua on peräti 80%.

Fewer asylumseekers to Norway

The government's tightening up of its asylum policy in 2008 has resulted in a 50 per cent reduction in the number of asylum seekers arriving in Norway over the past two years.

In the group of asylumseekers from Afghanistan, the number has been reduced by 80 per cent, Aftenposten writes.

- Our main concern is to provide protection for those who really need it. This means that we must return those who do not really need international protection, says state secretary Pål Lønseth of the Justice Department.
