Ruotsin viranomaiset jatkavat irakilaisten käännyttämistä vaikka EU tuomioistuimen mukaan niitä jotka ovat nostaneet kanteen EU-tuomioistuimessa ei saa käännyttää.

Vaikka käännytykset Hollannissa on lopetettu, niin ruotsalaiset edelleen jatkavat.

Ruotsissa on nykyään 170 000 irakilaista, enemmän kuin missään maassa Lähi-Idän ulkopuolella.

Sweden ignores European Court on Iraq

Swedish authorities are continuing to deport people to Iraq, despite a European Court decision saying that Iraqis who raise a challenge cannot be sent back.

Thomas Hammarberg at the European Court says to Swedish radio news that the decision is about human rights, and that they want to test whether it can be safe to deport to Iraq in certain cases - which means that any Iraqi who challenges deportation will now wait for a decision in the European Court.

In Holland the authorities have decided to halt all deportations, but no such decision has been taken in Sweden.

Border police head Sören Clerton says to Swedish radio news that deportations are continuing - as the police are simply carrying out Migration Board policy, and waiting for a new decision.

So far seven Iraqis have been able to stay in Sweden, through appealing directly to the European Court - but not many are aware of this possibility.

There are currently about 170,000 Iraqis in Sweden, the largest number outside the Middle East

30 Iraqi asylum-seekers who were facing deportation from the Netherlands have been given a reprieve. They will be allowed to remain in the country for at least another three weeks.

The Dutch government argues that situation in Iraq is safe enough for them to be sent back to their country. But on October 22, the European Court of Human Rights sent a letter to European governments requesting that they temporarily suspend deporations.

But the Dutch Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Geert Leers, said in a parliamentary debate the deportations would go ahead anyway. After the debate, the Court faxed the letter a second time to the minister.

After a second debate, the minister was forced to back down. Deportations will be suspended for three weeks.

Ruotsin kannalta hyvä että toimitaan järjellisesti edes salaa. Mutta jotenkin luulisi että pohjoismaalaiseen kulttuuriin kuuluisi itsestään selvänä osana asioista puhuminen niiden omilla nimillä. Ilmeisesti tarve loistaa "maailmanparantajana" ylittää tarpeen olla yksinkertaisesti rehellinen.

Sweden's response to the Iraqi refugee crisis has been unique due to its exceptional generosity. In 2006 it granted protection status to more Iraqis than in all other EU states combined. However, Sweden received very little support from fellow European states. In 2005 only 0.1 percent of Iraqis were recognised as refugees, but the total recognition rate including those granted complementary protection was a relatively high 24 per cent. In the year 2006 however, recognition rates leapt to a total of 91 per cent.[2]

The Swedish Migration Board decided in early 2006 that all Iraqi asylum-seekers from Central and Southern Iraq whose claims had been rejected as part of the normal status determination process would nevertheless receive a permanent residence permit, allowing the majority of Iraqis in Sweden to begin the process of fully integrating into Swedish society with a secure legal status.

In the context of the generally low recognition rates for Iraqis in other EU states, Sweden's generosity led to a surge in the number of applications received from Iraqis. Figures increased from 2,330 in 2005 to 8,951 the following year, with a further 1,500 new arrivals per month in the first half of 2007. Most of these persons have joined the existing Iraqi community in Sweden in municipalities such as Malmö and Södertälje, with the scale of the influx to these areas forcing newcomers to live in very poor conditions. Speaking in June 2007, Södertälje's mayor Anders Lago described the situation as being close to breaking point, with the authorities barely able to provide basic services and many newcomers sharing apartments with up to fifteen people.[2]

Taitaa kanvainvälinen suojelu -politiikalla jotain vaikutusta olla tulijoiden määrään. Varsin nopeastikin.

25 Ruotsissa hylsyn saanutta irakilaista on kääntynyt EU:n puoleen ja oletettavasti EU-tuomioistuin saa vielä paljon lisää anomuksia. Luonnollisesti Ruotsi joutuu keskeyttämään näiden henkilöiden kännytykset käsittelyn ajaksi.

Irak haluaa Ruotsin lopettavan irakilaisten käännytykset. Vuonna 2008 Irak ja Ruotsi solmivat sopimuksen jonka perusteella Ruotsi on käännyttänyt 800 irakilaista. Nyt Irakakin suurlähettilään mukaan Irak haluaa, että Ruotsi lopettaa pakkokäännytykset. "Toki haluamme omat kansalaiset takaisin, mutta nyt on vielä turhan aikaista..."

Iraq wants Sweden to end to forced deportations

Iraq is appealing to Sweden to stop forcibly deporting Iraqis who are denied asylum here, reports Swedish Radio news. Despite criticism from the UN Refugee Agency, Sweden is one of a few nations that continues to carry out the forced deportations.

Since Sweden and Iraq signed a "readmission agreement" in February 2008, over 800 Iraqis have been forcibly sent back to their homeland from Sweden.

Al Ameri, the Iraqi ambassador to Sweden, said that Iraq wants its citizens to come back, but that it is too early now. Jobs, housing, schools are lacking, and despite the fact that the violance has lessened, the situation is not secure throughout much of the country.

Samoihin aikoihin Saksassa vaaditaan lisää pakolaispaikkoja irakilaisille kristityille. Vain 2 500 irakilaiselle on anettu Saksassa turvapaikka, tuon määrän voisi nostaa 25 000:een. Totesi Berliinin sisäministeri.

Vuonna 2008 Irak ja Ruotsi solmivat sopimuksen jonka perusteella Ruotsi on käännyttänyt 800 irakilaista.

Suomen ja Norjan turvapaikanhakijamäärän jyrkkä kasvu kesällä 2008 oli suoraa seurausta tuon helmikuun palautussopimuksen solmimisesta. Ruotsissa taas irakilaisten turvapaikanhakijoiden määrä väheni nopeasti kolmannekseen aiemmasta.

Suomen hallitus on tästä tietoinen, vaikkei asiasta julkisesti puhuta, sillä helmikuussa 2009 se asetti politiikkariihessä yhdeksi tavoitteekseen palautussopimuksien solmimisen Irakin ja Afganistanin kanssa, kuten muut pohjoismaat olivat jo aiemmin tehneet. Kahden vuoden aikana hallitus ei ole päässyt tälläkään saralla alkua pitemmälle.
