Muslimeja siellä, terroristeja tuolla, mitähän helvettiä...

ISIS saattaa tehdä iskuja Karibian turistikohteissa, sillä sinne on palaamassa terroristeja Syyriasta/Irakista. En oikeasti ollut edes tajunnut, että tuolla-kin asuu musulmaaneja Syöpä on levinnyt joka paikkaan.

Trinidad ja Tobago on erityisen altis näille iskuille. Siellä nimittäin 1,3 miljoonan väestöstä jopa 104 000 on muslimeja. ISISin riveihin on lähtenyt maasta vähintään 130 tyyppiä, joista moni on noussut korkealle järjestön riveissä. Koko Karibian alueelta on lähtenyt viime vuosina yli 200.

HOLIDAY WARNING: ISIS training jihadis in Caribbean tourist hotspots to target Westerners

THE barbaric Islamic State (ISIS) will train jihadis in Caribbean tourist hotspots when fighters are forced to return home from Syria and Iraq where the terror cult has been smashed.

Fears are growing Western holidaymakers will be targeted in terror attacks by depraved terrorists who have travelled back to Trinidad and Tobago from the beaten caliphate.

So much so, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is currently taking measures to prevent fighters from returning to the islands, located southeastern from the United States, into a platform from which terrorist attacks can be organised.

When quizzed over the risk of jihadis returning, Minister of National Security of Trinidad and Tobago at the CARICOM replied: "It is not a matter of yes but when."

The warning comes amid fears fighters will be able to travel between most of the Caribbean islands without a visa, meaning reaching the Bahamas would leave any terrorist just a step away from Florida.

John Estrada, a former US ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, warned militants from Trinidad and Tobago have been well received by ISIS.

Describing the islands as the terror group's "unthinking seedbed", he told New York Times: "Per capita, Trinidad has the greatest number of foreign fighters from the Western Hemisphere who have joined the Islamic State."

"Trinidadians do very well with ISIL.

They are high up in the ranks, they are very respected and they are English-speaking. ISIL have used them for propaganda to spread their message through the Caribbean.

"The Islamic State uses them as propaganda to spread their message in the Caribbean."

According to the Caribbean Crime and Security Implementation Agency (Impacs), more than 200 people have travelled from the Caribbean in recent years to join ISIS.

Particular concern exists in Trinidad and Tobago, which has the highest proportion of Islamist radicalisation throughout America.

With 1.3 million citizens and a community of 104,000 Muslims, at least 130 people have travelled to Syria to live and fight under the flag of ISIS, according to figures revealed by the Government of Trinidad between 2013 and 2014.

Islamic radicalism is not new in Trinidad and Tobago.

In 1990 there was a failed coup by a radicalised Muslim group, but it was in 2007 when this country and neighbouring Guyana planned an attack against fuel tanks at JFK airport in New York.

The terrorists were sentenced to life in prison in the US in 2012.

Brittiläisen Doncaster Free Pressin mukaan Karibialle palaavat ISIS-terroristit aiheuttavat turvallisuusuhkan saarilla vieraileville turisteille.

Paradoksaalisesti turvallisimmat lomakohteet taitavat olla nykyään vahvoja totalitäristisiä valtioita. Niissä on omat negatiiviset puolensa (tyypillisesti on pidettävä turpansa tukossa joko politiikan, seksin tai alkoholin suhteen), mutta yllättäen sillä onko kyseessä muslimimaa ei ole vaikutusta asiaan. (No, ainakaan länkkärimiehenä.) Samaan aikaan esim. perinteisesti edistyksen vetureina nähdyissä länsimaissa ajatellaan että terrori-iskujen toteuttajilla on suurempi oikeus elämäntapansa toteuttamiseen kuin niiden uhreilla. Surukseni olen tässä parin viikon aikana totalitäristisistä maista Suomeen palattuani toistuvasti hyvin pian Helsingissä todennut että turvallisuudentunne siellä virallisen agendan mukaan kehnommassa maassa oli kyllä parempi, ja että asukkaissa ei ollut kasapäin ulkomaalaisia maailmanomistajia "kaupunkitilaa haltuunottamassa." Se aika saisi palata tännekin, vaikka se tarkoittaisikin vihervasemmiston ideologiahegemonian heikentymistä asioista päättämisen suhteen.

USA:n armeija auttoi Trinidad ja Tobagossa viranomaisia nappaamaan neljä ekstremistiä, joiden epäillään suunnitelleen iskua paikalliseen karnevaalitapahtumaan. Ilmeisesti nämä henkilöt ovat kytköksissä terrori-iskuja suunnittelevaan verkostoon.

US military helps thwart Trinidad carnival terror attack

US troops participated in anti-terror raids Thursday in the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago helping to capture four "high value targets," two US military officials told CNN.

The officials said US military personnel from US Southern Command, which oversees US military operations in the region, advised and assisted local Trinidadian security forces in apprehending the four extremists who are believed to be part of a network engaged in plotting terror attacks.

The US troops did not participate in any direct combat.

In a news conference Thursday, a Trinidad and Tobago police official, Michael Jackman, said police uncovered a threat to disrupt the Carnival activities and detained "several persons of interest."

The nation's police and defense forces are working together to ensure a safe and secure environment for the Carnival, Jackman said in video provided by CNN affiliate CNC3 Television.

"The public, as usual, should remain vigilant," he added while not elaborating on whether the threat was terror-related.

The US Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago issued a security alert Thursday evening saying that a terror plot has been thwarted but also said that "US government personnel are advised to exercise additional caution and increased situational awareness if they participate in Carnival events," out of an "abundance of caution." The United Kingdom's Foreign Office also issued an advisory and cautioned "an attack is still possible."

Trinidad and Tobago has long been an area of concern for the US military and intelligence communities as it is assessed to be home to ISIS sympathizers with officials saying that some of its citizens have traveled to Iraq and Syria to join extremist groups.

In April 2017, US Navy Admiral Kurt Tidd, the commander of Southern Command said "some of the individuals who left Trinidad-Tobago" have shown up "on film engaged in terrorist acts" and have committed murders in Syria.

An October report by the Soufan Group, a security consultancy that tracks foreign fighters, said that approximately 130 Trinidadians have traveled to Iraq or Syria to become foreign fighters.

Cops thwart Carnival attack: Suspect being quizzed at Belmont Police Station

Four men including the son of a popular radio personality have been detained after a series of raids across T&T, police confirmed.

According to reports Tariq Mohammed, 35 of El Socorro was detained at his home by heavily armed police officers and taken to Riverside Plaza where he was questioned for several hours.

Mohammed, the son of radio personality Shamoon Mohammed was later moved to the Belmont police station where he was expected to be kept for further interrogation. Police sources revealed that Mohammed's detention was as a result of intelligence information that he may be involved in alleged terrorist activities. The father of two has denied all allegations leveled against him.

An emergency press briefing was held at the Police Administration Building on Sackville Street today in which Ag ASP Michael Jackman confirmed reports that persons were held in relation to a plot to disrupt Carnival activities but would not disclose the identities of the persons or the nature of the suspected attack.

Jackman said the police service will continue to partner with other national security agencies to combat all threats and urged the public to do their part by reporting any suspicious activities.

Police yesterday returned to do searches at the Mohammedville, San Juan home of one of the persons who was detained in Thursday's investigations concerning a plot to disrupt Carnival.

This was confirmed by official sources as well as Mohammedville residents. But up to 8 pm there was no official word of the release of those who were held on Thursday - or of charges being filed.

Investigations continued yesterday following police searches at homes in the Mohammedville area in the early hours of Thursday, when several people were detained. The Nur-E Islam masjid was also searched.

Police Service Information officer ASP Michael Blackman later revealed police had unearthed "credible information" of a threat to disrupt Carnival. He confirmed the individuals planned to engage in criminal conduct to disrupt Carnival activites.

Those detained included Tariq Mohammed, son of radio announcer Shamoon Mohammed and a member of the Mohammed clan. Mustapha Khan and Fawaz Ali, both of El Socorro, were also detained.

Yesterday there were indications that another person - from Enterprise - was detained. Official sources confirmed that "a lot of operations are going down......"

Mohammed was an Islamic studies student at the University of Medina, Saudi Arabia. When he and his family returned home in 2015 he was interviewed by Special Branch police. After that, on the family's return to Saudi Arabia he was detained for 16 months over 2015-16, again being questioned by Saudi authorities on suspicion of being linked to terrorism. He claimed to have been subjected to torture and denied any link to terrorism

Mohammed was released and returned home in December 2016. He recently was involved in paramedic studies, his family said.

Another detainee is a Muslim cleric who also studied in Saudi Arabia years ago. He teaches in El Socorro areas, colleagues said

After the men were taken to Riverside Plaza they were separated. Mohammed was moved to Belmont Police Station where he remained yesterday.

Nur-E Islam has nothing to hide

The Nur-E Islam mosque, which was searched by police at 4 am on Thursday - and to which some of the detainees are affiliated - said it was awaiting evidence for the police's actions. In a release mosque leadership stated: "We co-operate as much as possible with the authorities for the good of our country. In this regard we acknowledge the professionalism displayed by police officers who conducted a search of the masjid's premises on Thursday at 4 am.

"Our (congregation) adhered to the laws of the country and have nothing to hide. At the same time we're concerned about alleged abuse of members of our congregation at their private homes, resulting in serious injuries to at least one person."

The statement added, "The police have made certain allegations and have detained though not arrested, some Muslim brothers. We await the evidence of their actions.

"As Muslims we don't condone any of the immoral activities associated with Carnival, but it's not within Islamic principles to attempt to take matters into our own hands and attempt to disrupt Carnival by causing destruction, harm or injury to people or places. If there was really was such a plot, we totally condemn it. We hope this is a misunderstanding with the Muslims and look forward to justice, honesty and integrity."

Islamic Front: 'Why single out Muslims?'

The actions of the police on Thursday are being condemned by the Waajihatul Islamiyyah (The Islamic Front) as flagrant and wanton disregard to further oppress and target Muslims of this country.

The Islamic organisation questioned why no other religious places of worship were searched by police. And it insisted that claims of a terrorist threat aimed at disrupting Carnival activities were false.

"Why is the state targeting Muslims in this country by disrupting Masjids and Muslims communities by making false claims that there is a plan a foot that Muslims are planning to disrupt Carnival celebrations? Why single out Muslims?" stated the release signed by its leader Umar Abdullah.

It stated that Muslim communities and Jamaats have been targeted as officers claim to have averted a terrorist threat aimed at disrupting Carnival activities.

The Waajihatul Islamiyyah (The Islamic Front) stated that the Masajid (Mosques)-Nur e Islam, Munroe Road, Sangre Grande, Bamboo and Laventille jamaats were searched on Thursday.

The searches, the release stated, "were juvenile, baseless, and a clear indication of the vendetta and dislike of the state towards Muslims in this country, not to mention the disrespect and abuse meted out to a number of Muslim men from various parts of the country, who the Waajihatul Islamiyyah (The Islamic Front) understands is being detained in a number of several police stations throughout the country for a few days now."

The group added that the move was an attempt by the State and TTPS to persecute Muslims in this country, and under the guise of "raids and searches" disrupt the Muslim communities.

The Islamic organisation questioned why searches were conducted at reputable masjids for "devices".

"Explain why there was a so called search for "devices" from these Masjids? And why wasn't such searches conducted in other denominational or public places of worship? Why wasn't "searches for devices" conducted in well-known hot spots such as Beetham, Sealots etc.?" it stated.

The release stated that persons also were being held for more than 72 hours.

"Why is the state persistent on attacking and disrupting the peaceful practice of Islam in his country?" the group asked.
