TWO people have been killed and seven are injured after a knifeman went on stabbing rampage in France today.

The country's anti-terrorism police have launched an investigation, according to local reports.

Four people are said to be in serious condition after the attack is said to have started in a tobacco shop in the southeastern town of Romans-sur-Isère.

The knifeman is said to have attacked the manager and two customers before continuing their rampage on the street, according to France Bleu.

A man has been arrested, but the motive is unknown. He told investigators that he is Sudanese, born in 1987. Police are verifying his identity as he was not carrying papers.

At least one of the injured is described as being in "critical" condition and several others "serious", officials said. The investigation is being handled by criminal police for the time being. It has not been handed over to counter-terrorism prosecutors.

Poliisi otti puukotuksista epäillyn miehen kiinni aamupäivällä. Le Parisien -lehden mukaan epäilty ei ollut voinut todistaa henkilöllisyyttään, mutta oli kertonut poliisille olevansa 33-vuotias ja kotoisin Sudanista.

Teon motiivista ei ole vahvistettua tietoa. Silminnäkijöiden mukaan epäilty olisi hyökätessään huutanut Allahu akbar eli arabiaksi Jumala on suurin.

Terroristin kotoa löytyi tekstejä, joissa valitetaan mm. "vääräuskoisten maassa" asumisesta.

Hänen kerrotaan rukoilleen arabiaksi polvillaan jalkakäytävällä sen jälkeen, kun oli puukottanut ihmisiä. Hän oli kuulemma pyytänyt poliisia tappamaan hänet. Jossain päin somea näin myös väitteen siitä, että Ahmed-Osman olisi kysynyt ihmisiltä ovatko nämä muslimeja ennen puukotusta.

Romans-sur-Isère: France launches terror probe after knife attack

French police have launched a terrorism investigation after two people were killed and five wounded in a knife attack in south-east France.

The attacker entered a tobacconist shop in Romans-sur-Isère, near Grenoble, and stabbed the owners and a customer.

He then attacked more people at two other shops before being arrested.

Prosecutors said the suspect was a Sudanese refugee in his 30s who lived in the town. Two other people have also been arrested, police said.

At the time of his arrest on Saturday, the man was "found on his knees on the pavement praying in Arabic", prosecutors said.
