Christian Democrat leader Maxime Verhagen on Monday said the multicultural society has failed. He was speaking during the recording of tv show Nova College Tour, reports the Algemeen Dagblad.

Verhagen told the programme the Dutch no longer feel at home in their own country and immigrants are not entirely happy here either.

The minister wants the Dutch to be prouder of their country like people in the US where they first say they are American and then where they originally come from, says the paper.

He follows his European colleagues in declaring multiculturalism a failure. German chancellor Angela Merkel, British prime minister David Cameron and French president Nicolas Sarkozy have all said the same, the paper states."

Semmoinen pieni korjaus, ettei Verhagen ole Hollannin kridejä. CDA on nimestään Christen Democratisch Appèl huolimatta sama kuin Hollannin kepu. Tosin Hollannin keup ei ole samalla tavalla skandaaleissa ryvettynyt kuin Suomen kepu, mutta muuten ovat aika samaa DNA:ta omaavia puolueita. Hollannin ChristenUnie-puolue olisi lähimpänä Suomen kridejä.

Sisäministeri: Monikulttuurisuus saa mennä

Hollannin valtio tulee hylkäämään monikulttuurisuusmallin ja sisäministerin mukaan aloitetaan uusi integraatiopolitiikka. Uudessa integraatiossa hollantilaisen yhteiskunnan arvot tulevat olemaan keskeisessä roolissa.

Jatkossa maahanmuuttajat ovat itse vastuussa hollanninkielen oppimisesta. Vaatimukset ovat oikeutettuja, koska samoja asioita vaaditaan myös maan omilta kansalaisilta.

Multiculturalism must go: Donner

Dutch society and its values must take precedence and integration policy should go, home affairs minister Piet Hein Donner told parliament on Thursday evening during the presentation of his integration bill.

Donner spoke of a 'change of direction' in which the government 'will distance itself from the relativism contained in the model of a multicultural society'. Society changes, he said, but must not be 'interchangeable with any other form of society', according to press reports.

Ample opportunity

It is not the government's job to integrate immigrants, he said. General policy on schooling, jobs and housing gives them ample opportunity for integration.

Dutch government says goodbye to multicultural society

THE HAGUE, June 17 (Xinhua) -- The Dutch government will abandon the model of a multicultural society.

In a letter to parliament on Thursday Minister Piet Hein Donner of Internal Affairs states that the Netherlands will start a new integration policy.

"The government shares the social discontent that exists on the multicultural society," read the letter published Friday. "In the new integration, the values of the Dutch society play a central role. With this change, the government steps away from the model of a multicultural society."

The new government wants more demands on immigrants. They should be responsible themselves for ensuring that they learn the Dutch language.

Maahanmuuttajien on ruokittava itsensä.

Vähemmistöjä tukeva politiikka on taakse jäänyttä aikaa. Tulevaisuudessa maahanmuuttajien tulee olla vastuussa itsestään ja integroitumisestaan. Sisäministeri Piet Hein Donner haluaa lopettaa antillilaisten, turkkilaisten, marokkolaisten ja muiden vähemmistöjen eritysikohtelun.

Monet turkkilaiset ja marokkolaiset järjestöt ovat kritisoineet ministerin ehdotuksia. Muslimien kattojärjestö puolestaan pitää hyvänä politiikkaa jonka mukaan maahanmuuttajien tulee olla itsenäisiä.

Maurice de Hondin kyselytutkimuksen mukaan 3/4 hollantilaisista kannattaa hallituksen uutta integratiopolitiikaa.

Lisäksi 83% kannattaa naamahuivien kieltämistä.

Three-quarters of the population supports the government's new policy on integration, according to a poll on Sunday by Maurice de Hond.

A large majority of voters for the governing parties VVD and Christian Democrats and alliance party PVV is in favour of the change of direction. But two-thirds of Socialist party voters and half of voters for Labour, D66 and GroenLinks also welcome the change.

The poll also shows that 83% of voters are in favour of a ban on the burka.
