A majority of Czechs (63 percent) believe that foreigners based in the country should adapt themselves to the Czech ways of life as much as possible, according to a CVVM agency's poll released Monday.

The rest mostly said the foreigners need to adapt partly. Only 4 percent had the view that foreigners should be free to live as they like, according to their own habits.

One half of Czechs consider the number of foreigners living in the country too high. Ten percent would not grant long-residence permits to foreigners and 80 percent would agree with this only under certain conditions

Of the national minorities living in the Czech Republic, the survey found that Czechs dislike Romani people the most and have for years; this March a total of 79 % of respondents found Romani people "unlikeable" or "very unlikeable". "Almost half (47 %) chose the response 'very unlikeable', while sympathy for Romani people was expressed by only 4 % of respondents"
