Sixteen people with suspected links to an international terrorist group and thought to be planning an attack in Germany were arrested on 1 February in multiple pre-dawn raids in the cities of Frankfurt, Offenbach and Wiesbaden (all Hesse state). Around 1,100 police officers were involved in the raids on more than 50 properties, including private residences, business and mosques. A Tunisian man suspected of involvement in the 2015 Bardo Museum attack in the Tunisian capital Tunis was among those taken into custody. The arrests highlight the continued threat posed by Islamist militancy across Western Europe.
