Inevitably, when you talk about white privilege someone will ask the question, "What about poor white people? What privilege do they have?"

In January 1961, John F. Kennedy was inagurated as the nation's thirty-fifth president. In February 1961, he signed an executive order for a pilot food stamp program, one based on the model previously used during the Great Depression. During his campaign, Kennedy had spent much time in West Virginia, and according to his speechwriter Ted Sorensen, "was appalled by the pitiful conditions he saw, by the children of poverty, by the families living on surplus lard and corn meal, by the waste of human resources.... He called for better housing and better schools and better food distribution.... He held up a skimpy surplus food package and cited real-life cases of distress." Kennedy saw people in need and used his power as president to address their crisis.

Peruskuraa, mutta kommenttiosasto on mielenkiintoinen - "White Guilt" alkaa olla katoava luonnonvara myös liberaalimpien valkoisten keskuudessa, eivätkä standardiväitteet enää mene suoraan läpi.

Samaisessa lehdykässä oli vähän aikaa taksepäin artikkeli jenkkikoulujen uudelleensegrekoitumisesta ja sielläkin kommenttiosasto oli melkoisen nuivaa - yhtenä pointtina siellä(kin) oli se, kuinka fanaattinen "antirasismi" on varakkaiden valkoisten hommaa. Kommenttiosasto siitä artikkelista poistettiin. Ehkä tästäkin pian.

The Nation on siis varsin liberaali jenkkilehti, jossei aiemmin siihen ole törmännyt.

Näköjään kyseinen kirjoittaja on kirjoittanut aika paljon juttuja mustista ja rotuasioista ja lueskelin satunnaisotannalla niitä. Mielenkiintoisesti myöskään osa mustista ei yhdy hänen näkemyksiinsä, kuten esimerkiksi tässä:

Sorry, but these dancers are annoying and invasive (and yes I feel like an old Republican for complaining so hear me out). I'm black and I used to think it was cute when I only saw them every once and a while. But people DO get kicked in the face, arm, legs, back. There is NO regulation of the dancer's competence or training and the amount of dance teams on the subway seems to have exploded in the last few years. I see these teams of teens in the middle of the afternoon, some times when they should be in school, doing dangerous sets on moving subway cars, forcing passengers to become their active audience when all we're doing is trying to go home. We just want to go home!! Is that wrong? I think the NYPD is cracking down because the numbers have exploded as well as the complaints. The roving bands of performers moving between cars in motion needs to stop (all of it). It's dangerous for everyone and feels manipulative.

Stop making this generation of young black males into professional beggars! We are better than that and come from a proud artistic tradition that doesn't have to depend on cheap psychological manipulation, guilt, and spatial tactics to get money. And stay in school! And pull your pants up! God, I feel old!
