31-vuotias nainen hakkasi 10-vuotiasta tyttöä 45 minuutin ajan teräksisellä liemikauhalla.

Järkyttävän pahoinpitelyn syy oli brittiläisen Daily Mail -lehden mukaan se, että 10-vuotias ei ollut lukenut kyyliksi Koraania.

Pahoinpitelijä, entinen ammattitanssija, vangittiin perjantaina.

Nainen puolusteli tekoaan sillä, että hänen hormonitasapainonsa oli järkkynyt paaston seurauksena.

Lapsi sai pahoinpitelyssä 57 erilaista vammaa.

31-vuotias oli lehden mukaan myös uhannut tappaa uhrinsa ja lähtenyt hakemaan keittiöstä veistä.

Tällöin tyttö oli paennut.

Poliisi löysi lapsen harhailemasta kadulla aamuyön tunteina

'The girl was praying from the Koran and Ms Parveen accused her of lying about how many of the verses she had read,' said Tom Nicholson, prosecuting.

'She was 10 at the time. Ms Parveen took a metal spoon about 10 inches in size and the Crown's case is that she hit the child with it repeatedly, causing extensive bruising over both arms, her legs and head.

'The Crown's case is that Ms Parveen said she was going to kill the girl and ran to get a knife from the kitchen.
