Two men were injured with a machete and a metal chain during a wild brawl that erupted at a beauty pageant after-party in Melbourne's south-east early this morning.

More than 1000 members of Melbourne's Sudanese community had gathered at a public hall in Clayton last night to celebrate the Miss South Sudan Beauty Pageant Australia, held the previous day in Springvale....

Police arrived at the scene to find a large group of people fighting in the street.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers were pelted with bottles and were forced to retreat and call for back-up.

It took 12 police units and three dog-squad units two hours to bring the violence under control.

Maribynong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are seeking witnesses to a brawl in Braybrook this morning that left a man and two police members injured.

OC spray was deployed at the crowd after they began to throw bottles at police members and police vehicles... A senior sergeant sustained a facial injury after a bottle was thrown at him and a senior constable was punched to the back of the head.

Some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to settle Christian Sudanese up there, which was working out pretty good. Then some brighter spark decided, because the Christian Sudanese resettlement was working, why wouldn't it work by placing equal pertions of Muslim Sudanese up there.

Siitäkin voisi olettaa jo joitain ongelmia. Kannattaa nyt kuitenkin pitää mielessä, että Sudan oli koko itsenäistyneen Afrikan ensimmäinen valtio, joka hajosi - islamilaiseen pohjoiseen, ja kristillis-animistiseen etelään. Kertoo ehkä jotain siitä, kuinka lämpimät ja hellät heidän välinsä ovat.
