Israelin armeija tulitti mielenosoittajia, koska nämä olivat armeijan mukaan yrittäneet turmella Israelin ja Gazan välillä olevaa turva-aitaa.
Ainakin kahdeksan palestiinalaista mielenosoittajaa on kuollut marssilla Israelin armeijan iskussa Gazassa, kertoo uutistoimisto Reuters. Tulituksessa loukkaantui Palestiinan Punaisen ristin mukaan lisäksi yli 350 ihmistä.

Ei näemmä tullut vielä tarpeeksi kansainvälistä huomiota, sillä rajalla hihkuminen on jatkunut taas (tosin toukokuullehan asti tuota olikin tarkoitus jatkaa, yleensä puhti loppuu lyhyeen) renkaiden polton ja peilien roudaamisen merkeissä:

Russian and Iranian news services reported that two Israeli F-15 war planes carried out the strike, which a conflict monitor said killed 14 people. The Russian military said the planes had approached from the Mediterranean Sea before firing from Lebanese airspace. Syria's air defense systems shot down five of the eight missiles fired, according to the Russian news agency Interfax.

Yaser Murtaja, 30, was the 29th Palestinian killed in the week-long protests in Gaza. Photos showed Murtaja lying wounded on a stretcher wearing a protective vest marked 'PRESS' in large black capital letters. He was shot in the side of his abdomen and later died from his wound in hospital.

At least nine Palestinians were killed and 491 others injured in the second mass border protest in eight days.

Jostain syystä Ilta-sanomat nostaa esiin tämän tunnetun jutun, että palestiinalaisten arabien koulukirjoissa on rasistista propagandaa. Tarkastaja Jenny Sjöberg teeskentelee, että ei olisi tiennyt arabien rasismista.

Suomen valtion tuki palestiinalaishallinnon opetussektorille on vuosina 2016–2019 noin 13 miljoonaa euroa. Lisäksi Suomi maksaa EU-hankkeen kautta Palestiinalaisalueen opettajien palkkoja sekä YK:n palestiinalaispakolaisten apujärjestön UNRWA:n kautta perusopetusta.

Suomi siis maksaa vuosittain miljoonia euroja lunnaita, jotta arabirasistit eivät tekisi terrori-iskuja Euroopassa. Muulla tuota ei voi perustella, miksi Suomi rahoittaa noin massiivisesti yhden vieraan valtion opetustoimintaa.

Käytännössä Suomi ja muu EU rahoittaa suurilla summilla antisemitististä propagandaa ja toimintaa Palestiinassa. Suomen hallitus on rasismin ja antisemitismin massiivinen tukija ja rahoittaja.

Natalie Portman, one of the most famous Jewish celebrities on the planet, just announced she was boycotting a major Israeli event.

Portman was scheduled to travel to Jerusalem to receive the Genesis Prize, a prominent award sometimes referred to as the "Jewish Nobel." On Friday, she abruptly canceled her visit, writing that she "did not want to appear as endorsing [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu" in an Instagram post explaining her decision. It's not yet clear what's happening to the $2 million in prize money that comes with the award.

Celebrities deciding to avoid Israel on political grounds is not all that uncommon. Hollywood is left-leaning, and many celebrities are outspokenly pro-Palestinian. Netanyahu's government is one of the furthest right in Israeli history, particularly when it comes to the conflict with the Palestinians. Tensions are to be expected.

But Portman is an altogether different case. She is an Israeli citizen, born in Jerusalem, though she was raised in America and currently lives in France. In the past, Portman has been an outspoken advocate of Israel — as an undergraduate at Harvard, she worked on a prominent book defending the Jewish state against its critics. She speaks fluent Hebrew; in 2015, she wrote, directed, and starred in a Hebrew-language adaptation of Israeli author Amos Oz's memoir.

So Natalie Portman turning down a visit to Israel in protest is not business as usual, and Israeli politicians are not treating it as such. Oren Hazan, a member of Israel's parliament from Netanyahu's Likud Party, called for Portman's Israeli citizenship to be stripped. A member of the cabinet, Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz, said her decision "has elements of anti-Semitism."

This is not a marginal controversy, some kind of celebrity sideshow. It is a leading indicator of the rising tensions between liberal American Jewry and the increasingly right-wing Israeli government. Portman is the canary in the coal mine, warning Israel that its policies on the Palestinians and African migrants are putting it increasingly at odds with its most natural friends abroad.

This transcript of an Israeli General on an Israeli radio station (begins 6.52 in) defending the latest killing by Israeli army snipers of a 14 year old boy who posed no threat of any kind, is much more powerful if you just read it than any analysis I can give.

Ron Nesiel: Greetings Brigadier General (Res.) Zvika Fogel. Should the IDF [Israeli army] rethink its use of snipers? There's the impression that maybe someone lowered the bar for using live fire, and this may be the result?

Zvika Fogel: Ron, let's maybe look at this matter on three levels. At the tactical level that we all love dealing with, the local one, also at the level of values, and with your permission, we will also rise up to the strategic level. At the tactical level, any person who gets close to the fence, anyone who could be a future threat to the border of the State of Israel and its residents, should bear a price for that violation. If this child or anyone else gets close to the fence in order to hide an explosive device or check if there are any dead zones there or to cut the fence so someone could infiltrate the territory of the State of Israel to kill us ...

Nesiel: Then, then his punishment is death?

Fogel: His punishment is death. As far as I'm concerned then yes, if you can only shoot him to stop him, in the leg or arm – great. But if it's more than that then, yes, you want to check with me whose blood is thicker, ours or theirs. Nesiel: But we were taught that live fire is only used when the soldiers face immediate danger.

Israel is widely believed to possess nuclear weapons, with an estimated arsenal of up to 400 warheads; which would make it the world's third biggest arsenal. Its first deliverable nuclear weapon was allegedly created in December 1966; which would make it the sixth country in the world to have developed them.

However, Israel has never officially denied nor admitted to having nuclear weapons, instead repeating over the years that it will not be the first country to "introduce" nuclear weapons to the Middle East. Israel has also refused to sign the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) despite international pressure to do so, saying that would be contrary to its national security interests.

Additionally, Israel has made extensive efforts to deny other regional actors the ability to acquire their own nuclear weapons. The counter-proliferation, preventive strike Begin Doctrine added another dimension to Israel's existing nuclear policy. Israel remains the only country in the Middle East believed to possess them.

Israel started investigating the nuclear field soon after it declared independence in 1948 and with French co-operation secretly began building the Negev Nuclear Research Center, a facility near Dimona housing a nuclear reactor and reprocessing plant in the late 1950s.

The first extensive details of the weapons program came in October 5, 1986, with news coverage of information provided by Mordechai Vanunu, a technician formerly employed at the Negev Nuclear Research Center. Vanunu was later kidnapped by the Mossad and brought back to Israel, where he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for treason and espionage.

In 1968, CIA Director Richard Helms was presented with a disturbing National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) stating that Israel had obtained atomic weapons, a dangerous development that occurred earlier than the CIA had anticipated.

It was particularly dangerous because just the year before, the Six Day War had marked the beginning of open hostilities between the Israelis and Arab nation states. To prevail, Israel had launched preemptive air attacks against Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq at the start of the conflict. Considering that violent backdrop, Helms immediately arranged a meeting with President Lyndon Johnson to inform him of this troubling milestone.

The man who had prepared the NIE and gave it to Helms was the CIA's chief science and technology officer, Carl Duckett. After Helms met with Johnson, the CIA Director told Duckett about the President's rather odd reaction. LBJ did not get upset, and he did not order an investigation into how it happened. Further, he did not tell Helms to let both the Defense Department and State Department know about it so they could establish intelligence inquiries or consider sanctions.

Instead, Johnson did the opposite. He told Helms to keep the news secret and specifically told the Director not to let the secretaries of State or Defense know about it.

Helms obeyed the orders of his Commander in Chief, but he decided to talk to the FBI about how this development had occurred earlier than expected. Thus begins Roger Mattson's Stealing the Atom Bomb: How Denial and Deception Armed Israel, the riveting story of duplicity, betrayal, cover-ups and deceit.

As the book shows, the cover-ups and duplicity did not just come from Israel and its agents in America. The deceit also came from men inside the American government who, for whatever reasons, decided to cast a blind eye on what was really happening under their jurisdiction, even after they had been alerted to it.

The legislation, which comes after multiple attacks inside Syria widely believed to have been carried out by Israel, makes it much easier for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare war. Although the new law restricts the use of that power to "extreme circumstances," it has provoked domestic criticism for concentrating it in the hands of just two people.

The law is "nothing less than insane," said Ofer Shelah, a legislator from the centrist Yesh Atid party, which sits in opposition. "I am deluged with calls from experienced security officials who are shocked, and rightfully so," he wrote on Twitter.

The measure, an amendment to the Basic Laws that serve as Israel's constitution, passed Monday night by a vote of 62-41 in the 120-seat Knesset. The vote was initially overshadowed by Netanyahu's dramatic, televised news conference the same night in which he presented evidence that he said proved that Iran had been lying about its efforts to build a nuclear weapon.(...)

Mitä Israelin ydinaseeseen tulee, en nyt edes hiukan puoliksi alkuun ymmärrä siihen liittyvää kitinää. Suomellakin olisi hyvä olla ydinase, niin ei tarvitsisi olla niin russocuck (käytiX mä tätä oikein?).

Jos huhuttu Samson-suunnitelman foliohattuversio (jossa iskujen kohteena olisi mm. Keski-Euroopan suurkaupungit) pitäisi paikkansa, tätä voisi kritisoida. Muuten kitinä on naurettavaa. Israelilla on suurimman osan ajastaan ollut hyvin merkittävä ydinarsenaali, eikä se ole käyttänyt sitä vihollisiaan vastaan. Demokraattisesti hallittua ja sekulaaria Israelia voidaan pitää hyvin vastuullisena ydinasevaltiona, mitä taas ei voida sanoa vaikkapa Iranista.

On pelkästään oikein, että ympäröivät vihollisvaltiot miettivät kerran tai kaksi, että kannattaako juutalaisia sittenkään ajaa mereen. Meinaten ydinkärjet voidaan lähettää vielä tämän jälkeenkin hyökkääjän niskaan ja tehdä tarvittaessa koko alueesta asuinkelvoton.

JERUSALEM (AP) — The latest on tensions between Israel and Syria (all times local):

1:30 a.m.

Israel's military says Iranian forces based in neighboring Syria fired about 20 projectiles at Israeli positions in the Golan Heights.

It says Israeli defense systems intercepted "some" of the incoming rockets and damage on the Israeli side was minimal. There were no Israeli casualties.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus says Israel views the incident "with severity" and has responded.

Israel has been on heightened alert in recent days, anticipating a possible Iranian retaliation. Iran has vowed revenge after blaming Israel for a series of deadly airstrikes on Iranian positions in Syria.

Pro-Syrian government media and activists reported earlier that missiles had been fired toward Israel from southern Syria late Wednesday targeting Israeli positions in the occupied Golan heights.

The sirens went off shortly after the Syrian state news agency and activists reported rocket fire from Israel into southern Syrian just before midnight Wednesday.

The Israeli army says it is investigating and has no further details.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says aircraft flew over the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, adjacent to southern Syria. There are no immediate reports of airstrikes.

Israel's military has been on heightened alert in recent days, fearing an attack from Syria. Syria and Iran have accused Israel of carrying out a series of airstrikes on Iranian targets in Syria in recent weeks. Israel has not confirmed or denied involvement.

Iran forces launch missiles at Israel from Syria, IDF says

Iranian forces based in Syria fired approximately 20 rockets toward Israeli positions in the Golan Heights, the Israeli military said late Wednesday.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its Iron Dome missile defense system had intercepted "some" of the incoming rockets. No injuries were reported.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, a military spokesman, said Iran's Al Quds force had fired the rockets at several Israeli bases, though he would not say how Israel had determined the Iranian involvement. The incoming attack set off air raid sirens in the Israeli-controlled Golan.

Israel "views this Iranian attack very severely," Conricus told reporters. He said Israel had responded, but did not provide details.

"This event is not over," he added.

In a statement to Fox News, the IDF asked residents of the Golan Heights to remain in special "safety zones" for the time being.

Syria's state news agency said early Thursday that Syrian air defenses had intercepted "hostile Israeli missiles," and Syrian media later said the missiles were fired over southwestern Damascus.

The pro-Syrian government Al-Mayadeen TV said more than 50 missiles had been fired from Syria toward Israeli forces in the Golan Heights.
