Interview with artist known for Mohammed 'turban bomb' drawing gets last minute cancellation from German TV station

German national public television station ZDF has chosen to pull a scheduled televised interview with Danish artist Kurt Westergaard, claiming the programme in question was 'not a suitable platform for an exchange of opinions' on the Mohammed cartoon crisis.

Westergaard is known for his depiction of a man with a bomb in his turban that was printed along with other drawings in Jyllands-Posten newspaper in 2005 under the caption 'Muhammeds ansigt' ('The Face of Mohammed').

According to news bureau Ritzau, the interview was to take place today on the popular 'Markus Lanz Show' and include discussions about the Mohammed cartoon crisis. ZDF's management indicated in a press release that the subject was not appropriate for an 'entertainment' programme, but added that it has aired several shows featuring the issue in the past and would continue to do so.
