Free flights for east Europe homeless
Eastern European immigrants are being offered free flights home in a £150,000 project funded by the taxpayer.

The scheme, known as the National Reconnection Service, is being trialled in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, and Boston, Lincolnshire, which have both seen a large influx of migrants from eastern Europe.

Many of the new arrivals have fallen victim to the recession and have found themselves homeless and destitute, with no access to most income-related benefits.

The project is expected to cost £150,000.

Boston-based organisation Crime Reduction Initiatives (CRI) assesses homeless applicants and if they are not eligible for benefits will pay for a one-way ticket back to their home country.

John Rossington of the CRI said: "We are encouraging them to come forward so we can establish their situation.

"If we can't help them we are giving them the option of a ticket back to their home country."

He added: "These are people who have no money and are extremely vulnerable, especially if they are living outside in the cold weather.

"If they end up offending or become ill they are likely to cost teh taxpayer more than a cheap one-way flight to eastern Europe."

Monet laman aikana saapuneet ovat huomanneetkin joutuneensa kodittomiksi ja rahttomiksi. Nyt 150 000 punnan projektissa tarjotaan Itä-Euroopan kodittomille ilmainen lentolippu kotimaahansa.
