Two oil company customers in the independent neighbourhood of Christiania are cut off after attacks on Statoil workers

Oil company Statoil has boycotted the neighbourhood of Christiania after service employees were attacked on two consecutive days when called out to repair a boiler, reports Politiken newspaper.

According to Statoil, when one of the company's service cars went to the call-out on 3 February, the driver was subjected to 'threatening behaviour' from a large group of people near the main thoroughfare of Pusher Street.

The situation escalated the next day when the car was subject to an unprovoked attack where it was 'bombarded with bottles, boxes and other projectiles', according to a letter Statoil wrote to the resident who had called the service technician.

The car sustained significant damage and while the driver was unhurt, he later had to seek counselling because of the attack.

Statoil's head of communications Per Brinch confirmed that the accounts of both Christiania residents who do business with the company have been cancelled as a result of the attacks.

When asked if it was fair that the customer accounts had been cancelled, Brinch said probably not, but that it wasn't right that employees were attacked.

'The safety of the employees comes first in this situation,' he said.

Varmaan kannatti hillua noinkin kovasti.

QuoteFor the last 15 years the government has not allowed construction in Christiania. This is now being enforced as a zero-tolerance policy with the help of a massive police presence. This is regarded by Christiania community as a government strategy to undermine the collective self-government of Christiania. They believe the government is planning to sell out building rights to private enterprises, in an attempt to force the freetown to accept the paradigm of private ownership and market capitalization of private property. The 900 or so inhabitants of Christiania have staked a claim for collective rights of use to all of Christiania, but this has been ignored by the government.
