Parliament TERROR LOCKDOWN: Car smashes into Westminster gates and cyclists - many injured
https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1003063/Parliament-crash-westminster-police-incident-car-gates

QuoteA CAR has crashed into security barriers outside the Houses of Parliament, injuring a number of pedestrians, and armed police have stormed to the scene in Westminster.
...
Officers have cordoned the whole square and members of the public have been told to move back further as police put up a "Terrorism Act cordon", according to an officer at the scene.
...
Witness Jason Williams told ITV's Good Morning Britain: "Basically I've seen a man driving a vehicle, and he's gone into one of the bollards. There was a loud bang.

"Straight away I thought 'Oh no, this is another terrorist attack' so I just started to run and the police were saying 'get out, get out of the area'."

He described the incident as "very, very scary", adding that he was feeling "very anxious".

Mr Williams added: "The car was behind me. I didn't see anyone else involved. I just saw this one vehicle, so it seems to be deliberate.

"I was very surprised (the police didn't go in straight away). They seemed to be standing back. They were obviously a bit wary, like what's going to happen next?

"I don't know if it was a tip-off, a warning, that this was a bomb. There seems to be maybe about 200 police here now, and it's all happened very quickly in the space of half an hour.'
...
Another eyewitness Ewalina Ochab descrbed the moment she saw the incident unfold.

She said: "I think it looked intentional - the car drove at speed and towards the barriers.

QuotePolice raid addresses in Nottingham and Birmingham over Westminster 'terror attack': British suspect who WAS known to officers but not MI5 'used a Ford Fiesta bought two months ago to mow down 15 cyclists'

Police have raided addresses in Nottingham and Birmingham over the Westminster terror attack after it emerged the suspect who ploughed into 15 cyclists and pedestrians today was known to officers but not MI5, MailOnline can reveal.

The suspect is believed to have lived above an internet café in Sparkhill, Birmingham, reports Sky News. Police have been searching the flat for several hours today.

Officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command are searching another address in Birmingham, where the suspect is said to be known to police, and a flat in the Radford area of Nottingham over the attack, but have not arrested anyone else.

Security Minister Ben Wallace described the 29-year-old suspect as 'a British citizen who came from another country originally' on BBC News this evening.

Roger Godsiff, the Labour MP for Birmingham Hall Green, tweeted earlier this evening to say that the suspect was believed to live in his constituency.

The Metropolitan Police have said the Fiesta the suspect used in the attack travelled from Birmingham to London late last night before arriving just after midnight.

Loukkaantuneita on ilmeisesti 15. Poliisi tutkii tapausta terrorismina.

QuoteREVEALED: 'Sudanese immigrant terror attacker' who drove around London for hours before smashing his car into cyclists outside Parliament leaving 15 hurt

A Sudanese immigrant known to police is thought to be behind another terror attack on Westminster after ploughing his car into 15 cyclists outside Parliament.

Salih Khater, 29, veered off the road careering into pedestrians and cyclists at Parliament Square, after spending the night cruising around London in a Ford Fiesta bought two months ago.

Khater, a British citizen born in Sudan, lives in a scruffy flat above an internet cafe in Sparkhill, an area of Birmingham that has housed jihadi cells linked to terrorist plots at home and abroad.

His rented flat is also just ten minutes from the former home of Khalid Masood, whose murderous rampage 17 months ago appears to have inspired Khater's own carborne attack yesterday.

Police say he drove 115 miles to London late on Monday night and first drove around the Tottenham Court Road area between 1.25am and 5.55am before heading to Westminster and Whitehall at 6am and circled until he struck at just after 7.30am.

This stalking of London streets will raise suspicions that he was looking for crowds and plumped for Westminster after Masood killed six in March 2017.

There were screams as the Ford Fiesta mounted the pavement and mowed people down at up to 50mph at 7.37am before he crashed into a security barrier outside Parliament, narrowly missing two police officers.

(...)

The terror suspect – thought to be a lone wolf – remained strangely calm and utterly silent, offering no resistance as he was handcuffed.

Police found no weapons or explosives.

(...)

The attack was caught on CCTV showing the car swerve the wrong way down the road and veering across a pedestrian crossing through crowds of cyclists waiting at a set of traffic lights.

He hit a female cyclist who was left lying motionless in the road suffering from a suspected broken hip, while other injured cyclists lay sprawled in the road by their mangled bikes.

A man and the female cyclist were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and were later discharged. Robert Nicholson was heading to work and waiting in a 'safe cycling box' near Parliament when the man struck.

He said: 'There were about 15 cyclists there. All of a sudden, whipping round the corner – just from the traffic lights – was this small car and just rammed straight through the group of ten to 15 cyclists that were stood there.'

One cyclist, a management consultant, told MailOnline how he cheated death as the speeding car ploughed past him - knocking down the cyclist next to him.

Kolme kadullaliikkujaa loukkaantui. Syyttäjä käsittelee tapausta terrorismina, joten uusia, kovempia syytteitä lienee odotettavissa tutkinnan edetessä. Khater pysyy vangittuna ja seuraava istunto on 31.8. Old Baileyssä.

Quote from: BBCWestminster car crash: Suspect appears in court (20.8.2018)

Salih Khater, 29, is alleged to have swerved his car into cyclists and pedestrians before driving towards police and crashing into a barrier.

Three people were injured in the incident on 14 August, which is being treated by prosecutors as terrorism.

Mr Khater, from Birmingham, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court charged with two counts of attempted murder.

A UK national originally from Sudan, Mr Khater is charged with one count of attempting to murder persons outside Parliament and a second count of attempting to murder police officers.

Police said his case was being treated as terrorism due to the location, methodology and alleged targeting of civilians and police officers.

Mr Khater, of Highgate Street, was remanded in custody. His next court appearance will be at the Old Bailey on 31 August.

QuoteParliament attack: Salih Khater found guilty of two counts of attempted murder

A STUDENT who drove at cyclists and police officers outside the Houses of Parliament has been found guilty at the Old Bailey of two charges of attempted murder.

Salih Khater, 30, had claimed he was looking for somewhere to buy breakfast when he careered into the gates outside the Palace of Westminster. Cyclists were left injured in the street after Khater drove into them. A jury today found him guilty of two counts of attempted murder.

On August 14 last year he drove into a security lane and crashed into barriers as two police officers jumped out of the way.

The attack was caught on CCTV footage which was played in court.

The Old Bailey heard Khater, of Highgate Street, Birmingham, wanted to cause maximum carnage and it was "miraculous" that no-one was killed.

But Khater claimed he came to London to find the Sudanese embassy to get a visa, "got lost" around Westminster and panicked.

The jury deliberated over two days before rejecting his explanation and finding him guilty of two charges of attempted murder.

Khater made no reaction as he was found guilty of the charges.

Mrs Justice McGowan remanded him into custody to be sentenced on October 7. She ordered pre-sentence reports to help her determine Khater's potential dangerousness.

Jenny Hopkins, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: "It was only quick reactions and good luck that stopped Salih Khater killing anyone when he drove his car into cyclists and police officers outside Westminster.

"His driving was so precise and determined that it was difficult for skilled accident investigators to repeat the manoeuvre he carried out.

"Whatever his motives, this was not an accident. It was a deliberate attempt to kill and maim as many people as possible."

During the trial, prosecutor Alison Morgan QC said Khater's attack was "premeditated and deliberate".

(...)

Ms Morgan told jurors Khater's reason for the attack was unclear but by targeting officers guarding the Palace of Westminster the defendant had a "terrorist motive".

The court heard how Khater was born in Sudan and was granted asylum in Britain in 2010, after claiming he had been tortured in his home country.

In the months before the attack, the defendant showed signs of "paranoia" about British authorities, it was claimed.

Westminsterin sudanilaispakolainen Salih Khater, joka elokuussa 2018 lanasi pyöräilijöitä ja jalankulkijoita ja yritti ajaa poliisien päälle parlamenttitalon luona, sai sitten terroristisessa tarkoituksessa tehdyistä murhan yrityksistä elinkautisen, josta on suoritettava vähintään 15 vuotta. QuoteSalih Khater: Terrorist who ploughed into cyclists and police outside Parliament is jailed for life (14.10.2019)

A copycat terrorist who ploughed his car into cyclists and police outside Parliament has been jailed for life.

Salih Khater, 30, was given a minimum term of 15 years at the Old Bailey on Monday.

Khater, of Birmingham, launched the attack on the morning of August 14 last year.

Mrs Justice McGowan said Khater had deliberately copied other terrorists as she jailed him.

She said: "Your undoubted intention was to kill as many people as possible and by doing so spread fear and terror.

"You replicated the acts of others who undoubtedly have acted with terrorist motives. You deliberately copied those others.

(...)

"Even acting alone, you acted for a terrorist purpose. All the evidence is consistent with that conclusion."

Khater circled Parliament Square four times before accelerating his Ford Fiesta at a group of cyclists waiting at traffic lights.

Leaving several of them wounded on the ground, Khater then rammed his car into a police barrier at a side entrance to the Houses of Parliament as two officers desperately dived out of the way.

Prosecutor Alison Morgan had told the court that Khater, an asylum seeker from Sudan, had wanted to "cause maximum death and injury". But those hurt miraculously survived.
