Mä huomasin sellaisen jännän asia, että Putin on katoamassa venäläisestä propagandasta. Sitä ei enää mainita niin usein kuin joku aika sitten tai vaikka länsimaisissa tiedotusvälineissä.

Tällä hetkellä se mainitaan RT:n ja Sputnikin etusivuilla kummallakin kerran ja vain Sputnikilla jaksetaan jatkaa vanhalla tyylillä. RT:llä se on lähinnä jotain, mikä haittaa Navalnyn toimintaa.

Venäjän kohukansanedustaja yllättää: "Talvisota tunnustettava miehityssodaksi – suomalais-ugrilaisia kieliä opetettava Venäjällä"

Venäjän pahamaineisen homopropagandalain isänä parhaiten tunnettu kansanedustaja Vitali Milonov on antanut viime aikoina useita huomattavan Suomi-myönteisiä lausuntoja.

Vitali Milonovin ensimmäisestä yllättävästä esiintulosta kertoi Regnum-uutistoimisto marraskuun alussa. Uutistoimiston mukaan Milonov ilmoitti olevansa huolissaan siitä, että Suomea vastaan käyty talvisota ei ole saanut Venäjällä asiaankuuluvaa arviointia.

Milonovin mukaan olisi jo aika tunnustaa, että kyseessä oli itse asiassa miehityssota.

– Me häpeilemme siitä puhumista, arastelemme tunnustaa, että se oli itse asiassa Suomen miehittämistä. Vuonna 1939 Mainilan kylässä suomalaiset eivät aloittaneet hyökkäystä, vaan neuvostojoukot sen vuoksi, että Stalin niin halusi, Milonov sanoi Regnumin mukaan.

Puolivälissä marraskuuta Milonov jatkoi pohdiskeluaan suomalais-ugrilaisista kansoista kolumnissaan, jonka hän oli kirjoittanut Realnoje Vremja -sivustolle. Kirjoituksessa Milonov toisti ajatuksen, että puolet venäläisistä on suomalais-ugrilaista alkuperää.

– Keski-Venäjä (Moskova, Kostroma, Jaroslavl, Vologda ja muut) on aluetta, jolla suomalais-ugrilaiset asuivat alkujaan. Puolet Venäjän Euroopan-puoleisesta osasta ja alueet Uralin molemmin puolin ovat myös suomalais-ugrilaisten aluetta, Milonov kirjoitti.

Milonov kertoi kolumnissaan olevansa itsekin suomalais-ugrilaista alkuperää, sillä hänen esi-isänsä isän puolelta kuuluivat jo kadonneeseen merjalaisten kansaan.

Samaisen Regnum-uutistoimiston toimittaja Darja Aleksejeva kommentoi muutaman päivän päästä Milonovin talvisota-analyysiä ihmettelemällä, miten patrioottina esiintyvä kansanedustaja saattaa suhtautua niin kevytmielisesti Venäjän alueelliseen koskemattomuuteen.

– Milonovin aloitti keskustelun, jollaista ei osattu odottaa. Kun hän kehotti tunnustamaan neuvostoliittolais-suomalaisen sodan Suomen alueen miehittämiseksi, hän jätti avoimeksi kysymyksen, pitäisikö sitten tarkastella uudelleen sen sodan lopputulosta, Aleksejeva paheksui.

Aleksejeva muistutti jutussaan, että Suomi menetti talvisodan seurauksena noin 11 prosenttia maa-alueestaan Neuvostoliitolle. Milonovin puheet miehityssodasta ovat Aleksejevan mukaan kuitenkin vaarallisia siinä mielessä, että ne voivat käynnistää "uuden syytösten puuskan, jonka mukaan Neuvostoliitto olisi ollut ennen toista maailmansotaa miehittäjän roolissa Länsi-Ukrainassa ja läntisellä Valko-Venäjällä, Baltian maissa ja Suomessa".

– Milonovin ei pitäisi vitsailla tällaisilla asioilla, koska nämä vitsit voivat uhata satojentuhansien tai miljoonien ihmisten elämää ja hyvinvointia ja Venäjän alueellista koskemattomuutta, Aleksejeva varoitti.

An Analysis of Zhirinovsky's Program

Bearing this in mind, it is worthwhile to take a closer look at Zhirinovsky's 2018 program:

Here is what Zhirinovsky is promising to do for russkie, in the sense of ethnic Russians:

-Give passports to all Russians. Defend Russians abroad, do not allow foreigners to take children from Russian families.
-Russia, its environment and its democracy – for everyone: For Russians, and the other peoples of the country.
23. Add the following preamble to the Constitution: "We, Russians and the other peoples of Russia..."
24. Create an Institute of the Russian Holocaust of the 20th Century

In Russian Nationalism 101, I mentioned three things that virtually all Russian nationalists agree on: An end to mass immigration from Central Asia; no more prosecutions for "hate speech"; and the liquidation of regional autonomies. Zhirinovsky's program is a "tick, tick, tick" so far as all of these are concerned.

The program has a strong patriarchic slant, and is strongly targeted towards siloviks:

21. Do not allow more than 10% negative information on TV and radio.
65. Encourage men to go into the education sector.

However, there are otherwise few specifics on foreign policy, apart from the general policy of defending Russians abroad:

We need to finish things up in the Middle East. Reorient foreign policy to the South. Alliance with Iran, Turkey, Iraq, Syria. This is 400 million people, technologies, resources, armies.

There is a strong pro-natality element.

50. Pay women to avoid abortion, the child will be raised by the state.
51. Create a Ministry of Demographics and offer free fertility treatments.
53. Promote a cult of the family.
54. Pay 20,000 rubles per month to people who adopt orphans.
55. Stimulate fertility in regions where deaths exceed births.

t's worth noting that #55 is basically codeword for ethnic Russian regions.

That said, this is far from a grim document propounding unremitting authoritarianism, militarism, xenophobia, and ultranationalism.

In some respects, it would also increase the civil liberties of ordinary people.

1. Build a country without Communism, Nazism, racism, or authoritarianism.
12. A one party regime doomed the Empire, and the USSR.
17. Name the mistakes of the Soviet leadership, publish the archives, condemn perestroika.
22. Remove the political Article 282 from the criminal code.
29. Replace all the judges.
30. Conduct free and fair elections.
31. Develop local self-government.
42. Political and criminal amnesty. Humanize the Criminal Code.
73. Easen the processs of getting European visas, remove all sanctions.
74. Make life easier for disabled people: Accessible accomodations, more ramps, freedom from having to pay utilities fees.
91. In Russia, the economy, and democracy, was always offered "from above." Everything was decided by bureaucrats. The people weren't allowed to decide anything.

On the one hand, there are the "developmental" policies, e.g. high infrastructure spending, the repatriation of offshore capital, and a reduction of regulations on business along lines that one can imagine even institutions like the IMF approving of.

4. Intense development of road networks, trains with speeds of 400km/h.
10. Attention to the fight against corruption. Bribe-taking bureaucrats should be fired and have their assets confiscated. A businessman should compensate anything stolen by a multiple of three.

However, many of Zhirinovsky's policies are to various extents statist, populist, or just plainly badly thought out; are of dubious efficacy; and would have the general effect of raising spending on social welfare, restricting individual autonomy, increasing state control of the economy, and increasing general inefficiency.

33. Import substitution, sell finished products, not raw materials, abroad.
37. Cancel the principle of equity construction. The state must build and sell housing.

68. Minimum wage of no less than 20,000 rubles.

86. Remove Russia's foreign currency reserves from US Treasuries.

A Conspiracy Around the Romanovs' Murder Has Alarmed Russian Jews

Jewish groups in Russia are on edge this week after a prominent Russian bishop gave life to a conspiracy theory that Tsar Nicholas II and his family were murdered in a "ritual killing."

The uproar came after a conference in Moscow on Monday, summarizing the findings of two separate investigations into the execution of the Romanov family — one led by the Russian Orthodox Church, and the other by Russia's Investigative Committee.

Several theories were under consideration, Father Tikhon Shevkunov — a priest widely rumored to be President Vladimir Putin's spiritual advisor — said at Moscow's Sretensky Monastery. But "a significant part of the Church commission has no doubt that this was a ritual murder."

The comment hit a nerve among Jewish groups, who say the conspiracy has anti-Semitic roots. Even more concerning, they say, is that an Investigative Committee representative said that it too would be examining the validity of the claim.

What happened?

In July 2018, Russia will mark the centenary of the murders of Tsar Nicholas II and his wife and their five children, who were executed by Bolshevik revolutionaries in Yekaterinburg.

After canonizing Tsar Nicholas II and his family in 2000, the Russian Orthodox Church pushed for a fresh investigation into their deaths in 2015. With the centenary of the deaths approaching, their significance in Russia has again taken on meaning.

Marina Molodtsova, a spokesperson for the committee, said at the conference that the investigators would conduct a "psychological-historical examination" of the claim that they were killed in a ritual killing.

What is the conspiracy?

On Tuesday, Father Tikhon Shevkunov elaborated on the theory in an interview with the state-run RIA Novosti news agency.

"Quite a few people involved in the execution," he was cited as saying, "saw the killing of the deposed Russian emperor as a special ritual of revenge."

He added that Yakov Yurovsky, a Jew who participated in the executions, later boasted about his "sacral historic mission."

The purpose was to "ritually and symbolically end the 300-year Romanov dynasty," Shevkunov added.

Vladimir Solovyov, who for 14 years investigated the murders for the Investigative Committee, spoke about the conspiracy with Ekho Moskvy editor-in-chief Alexei Venediktov in early October.

Supporters of the theory, Solovyov said, believe a local Jewish sect "burned the bodies [of the Romanovs] and drank the ashes with tea."

During the conversation, Solovyov tried to put the matter to bed. "There are no grounds for believing that it was a ritual murder," he said.

The conspiracy's roots

The head of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia Alexander Boroda denounced the theory immediately after it resurfaced on Monday. "The accusation of Jews in the ritual murder is one of the most ancient anti-Semitic slanders," he said.

Speaking to The Moscow Times, Oleg Budnitsky, a historian focused on World War II at Moscow's Higher School of Economics agreed, saying that the theory is "total nonsense."

"It comes from an old myth that Jews used the blood of Christians in ritual killings," he said.

On top of that, some of the leading Bolsheviks of the revolution, including Yurovsky — one of the Romanov family's executioners — were Jewish, which has helped the conspiracy theory flourish.

Theories of a Jewish conspiracy have circled among fringe anti-Semitic groups for a century, but many are surprised to see them given credence in official circles.

While Shevkunov and Molodtsova — the bishop and investigator — did not explicitly connect the "ritual killing" with Jews on Monday, Budnitsky, the historian, said "everyone" knows that the theory has anti-Semitic roots.

What to read into it?

It is unclear why the conspiracy was brought up in official circles a century after the murders, the spokesperson of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, Boruch Gorin, told The Moscow Times on Wednesday.

Noting that anti-Semitism has long been a running undercurrent in Russia, Gorin said that the re-emergence of the theory was "shocking."

But, he said, it signals a strong anti-Semitic current in the Orthodox Church and at the highest levels of government, unless the Kremlin denounces it.

"If the government doesn't strongly denounce this, then it shows that at any moment anti-Semitic propaganda can come back into full force like during the late 1970s in the Soviet Union," he said. "This can blow up anti-Semitism very forcefully."

But on Wednesday, the Kremlin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov was cited by state media brushing the controversy aside.

The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation for the first time publicized average monthly salaries of employees of federal state bodies, including the majority of ministers, RBC informs. The data provided cover 2016.

The data refer to the salaries of employees with state positions. They include the president, the chairman of the government and his deputies, federal ministers, the chairmen of the State Duma and the Federation Council, deputies and senators, the Head of the Accounts Chamber and its auditors, federal judges and chairmen of higher courts. In ministries, there is only one public office - the minister himself. According to sources of RBC, deputy ministers are employed as civil servants. Thus, the data of the Ministry of Finance reveal the monthly salaries of each of the ministers.

According to published data, Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov received the highest salary in 2016 - 1.73 million rubles ($29.9 thousand) a month. According to the official's anticorruption declaration, this amount was 22% of his annual income. The Ministers of Economic Development and Energy received 1.27 ($22 thousand) and 1.16 million rubles ($20.1 thousand) a month. The post of Minister of Economic Development was occupied until November 2016 by Alexey Ulyukayev, who was sentenced to 8 years of strict regime in December for taking the bribe.

The Head of the Ministry of Emergency Measures in 2016 received 954 thousand rubles ($16.5 thousand) a month, and the Minister of industry and trade - 921 thousand rubles ($15.9 thousand). The top ten ministers with the highest salaries also featured the Heads of the ministries of justice, sports, foreign affairs, health and education. They received from 497 to 634 thousand rubles ($8.6-10.9 thousand) a month. The data published by the Ministry of Finance lacks salaries of the Heads of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as secret services of the FSB and SVR. There is also no information about the salary of the Russian president.

It is noted that the salaries disclosed by the Ministry of Finance include only payments that are "not part of the financial allowance". Salaries of most ministers and vice-premiers consist of fixed remuneration and monthly and quarterly rewards, the amount of which is set individually for each official by the President of Russia.

Suurin osa venäläisistä on myös sitä mieltä, että Neuvostoliiton hajoaminen olisi ollut vältettävissä. Vain 29 prosenttia vastaajista piti Neuvostoliiton hajoamista väistämättömänä.

Sosialististen neuvostotasavaltojen liitto lakkasi olemasta noin 26 vuotta sitten. Käytännössä kaikki alle kolmikymppiset eivät ole kokeneet oman muistin tasolla aitoa neuvostomeininkiä sekä hyvässä että pahassa. Tästä johtuen heidän on pitänyt muodostaa mielipide muilta kuulemansa ja lukemansa perusteella.

Venäläiset kuolevat keskimäärin nuorempina kuin länsimaissa asuvat, elinikäodote on venäläisnaisilla tällä hetkellä noin 77 vuotta ja miehillä noin 67 vuotta. Tämä tekijä selittää luultavasti sen, että vanhusväestön nostalgiakaipuu ei selitä mielipidetutkimuksien nousevia lukuja. Ei mene enää ajallisesti kauaa siihen, kun noin puolet venäläismiehistä on siinä iässä, että heillä ei ole mitään omakohtaisia kokemuksia neuvostokommunismista.

Olennaisempaa olisi kysyä, miksi ihmiset haikailevat sosialistis-kommunistisen Sosialististen Neuvostotasavaltojen muodostaman liiton perään? Onko tämä haikailu ainoastaan venäläisten yksinoikeus? Luulisin, että Baltian maissa ja monissa muissa entisissä itsenäistyneissä entisissä neuvostotasavalloissa tätä kaipuuta ei ole, mutta olenko väärässä?

Muistelevatko ihmiset lainkaan neuvostoajan köyhyyttä? Teknologista jälkeenjääneisyyttä, jatkuvaa talouslamaa, puolueen yksinvaltaa ja kaikkia muita huonoja puolia? Ilmeisesti he muistavat pääosin seuraavat asiat: elämän ennakoitavuus, varma työpaikka, halvat peruselintarvikkeet, turvallisuus, propaganda siitä miten seuraavan 5 vuoden aikana kaikki muuttuu paremmaksi ja jne.

Jotenkin en kuitenkaan usko, että vallankumousta neuvostovallan palauttamiseksi tultaisiin toteuttamaan tai edes vakavasti suunnittelemaan yhtään kenenkään toimesta vielä vuosiin, vaikka prosentit kasvaisivat tuosta edelleen.

Presidenttiehdokas yllätti toimittajat suorassa lähetyksessä - Putinin haastaja ei säästellyt sanojaan.
Kommunistien yllätysehdokas Pavel Grudinin saattaa lohkaista 20-30 prosentin äänisaaliin Venäjän presidentinvaaleissa.
Pavel Grudinin on karismaattisen näköinen, esiintymiskykyinen 57-vuotias yritysjohtaja ja poliitikko. Hän on luonut "Leninille nimetystä sovhoosista" Venäjän oloissa menestyneen mallitilan, jonka työntekijöillä kerrotaan olevan suorastaan erinomaiset ansiot, palvelut ja asunnot.

Yleisesti odotettiin, että Grudininista tulee samanlainen muodollinen vastaehdokas kuin mitä Zjuganov on ollut jo monissa vaaleissa. Venäjän poliittinen eliitti on kuitenkin yllättynyt tavasta, jolla Grudinin on ryhtynyt arvostelemaan Venäjän nykytilaa.

Joulun aikaan Grudinin oli Venäjän valtiollisen ykköstelevision suorassa lähetyksessä studiovieraana. Toimittajien ilmeiseksi yllätykseksi hän kritisoi suorin sanoin Putinin luomaa järjestystä, jossa Venäjän superrikkaat "oligarkit" vievät omaisuutensa veroparatiiseihin eivätkä investoi kotimaahan. Hän arvosteli viiltävästi myös maansa köyhyyttä ja tuotannon yksipuolisuutta.

Grudininin mielestä ei maasta tee suurvaltaa se, että se tuottaa paljon panssarivaunuja samaan aikaan kun eläkeläiset joutuvat elämään kädestä suuhun. Suoran tv-lähetyksen juontajille tuli ilmeisenä yllätyksenä, että Grudinin antoi ymmärtää, että Venäjä ei ole suurvalta, koska se tuottaa vain 3 prosenttia maailman bruttokansantuotteesta.

- Suurvalta on sellainen, jossa eläkeläiset ja invalidit elävät hyvin eikä sellainen, jossa on paljon aseita, Grudinin sanoi.

- No sittenhän Luxemburg on todellinen suurvalta", yritti valtiollisen tv-kanavan juontaja puhua Grudininia pussiin.

- Kyllä, presidenttiehdokas vastasi häkeltymättä.
Sen jälkeen seurasi vielä jotain, jonka täytyi nostaa isänmaallisten juontajien verenpainetta:

- Onko se nyt laitaa, että menemme me mihin tahansa, niin näemme, että sodassa hävinneet elävät paremmin kuin me, jotka kuulumme sodan voittajiin!

Jos Grudinin pystyy mobilisoimaan tyytymättömyyden kannatuksekseen, hänellä on venäläisten tarkkailijoiden mukaan hyvät mahdollisuudet saada jopa 20 - 30 % äänistä. Sen keräämistä tosin häiritsee hylätyksi tulleen ehdokkaan Aleksei Navalnyin kampanja vaalien boikotoimiseksi.

Russia Attracting Ever Fewer Immigrant Workers, New Study Says

Russia is attracting ever fewer immigrants from CIS countries and almost none at all from beyond their borders, a new study by the Moscow Institute of Social Research says; and if Moscow doesn't adopt new policies, the country's economy will soon begin to suffer and its population to decline still more rapidly.

            The 55-page study, entitled "Migration Policy: Diagnostics, Challenges and Proposals," by Ye.B. Deminttseva and N.V. Mkrtchayn of the Higher School of Economics and Yu.F. Florinskaya of the Russian Academy of Economics and State Service (csr.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/20180126_Report-Migration-Web.pdf) is attracting widespread notice.

            Current trends suggest, the authors say, that the CIS countries will soon exhaust themselves as sources for immigrant workers for Russia and that by 2024, there will no longer be a net inflow of such workers, a development that will place enormous constraints on the economy and push down the country's total population.

            The number of Central Asians arriving is falling by double digit percentages and that of Ukrainians and Moldovans even more because the latter can now go to other countries where salaries and wages are even higher.  That pattern is unlikely to change anytime soon, the report says, unless Moscow takes dramatic action.

            The Russian government, they say, needs to put in place a consistent policy rather than constantly changing it, something that increases uncertainty and thus drives away workers. It must also improve the path to legalization and promote the integration of foreign workers into Russian society.

                If but only if those steps are taken, the new report says, will Russia be able to attract 400,000 to 500,000 gastarbeiters annually over the next decade and do so without sparking new social tensions within Russia.

Venäjällä syntyi 200 000 lasta edellisvuotta vähemmän – Putin syyttää Neuvostoliiton kaatumista
Venäjällä syntyvyys laski viime vuonna alhaisimmalle tasolle sitten vuoden 2007. Maan tilastoviranomaisen Rosstatin mukaan vuoden aikana maassa syntyi 1,9 miljoonaa lasta, mikä oli yli 200 000 vähemmän kuin edellisvuonna.

Pääsyy syntyvyyden vähenemiselle on synnyttävän ikäluokan pienuus. Presidentti Vladimir Putin on syyttänyt tästä Neuvostoliiton kaatumista vuonna 1991, mikä ajoi maan talouskriisiin ja romahdutti syntyvyysluvut.

Parantaakseen syntyvyyttä Venäjä on lisännyt valtion tukea tuoreille vanhemmille. Venäjän työministeriö on arvioinut synnytysiässä olevien naisten määrän vähenevän yli neljänneksellä vuoteen 2035 mennessä.

Venäjän väkiluku on laskenut yli viidellä miljoonalla Neuvostoliiton kaatumisen jälkeen.

Janus Putkonen Kyllä tälle idealle varmasti tilausta olisi, ehkäpä pieneksi suomalaiseksi karjalaiskyläksi saakka... olen jo oppinut venäläisen hallintokulttuurin jotta tällainen aloite voisi saada valtion ja Karjalan tasavallan tuen, koska Donbass on itsenäisyydestään huolimatta kiinteästi venäläinen alue... Arvostettuine patrioottisine suhteineen.

Mutta kuten jo aiemmin sanoin, voin ainoastaan edistää ideaa ja sen puolesta hengessä toimia - ainakaan toistaiseksi mikään ei viittaa siihen, että Donbassin kansantasvallat haluaisivat työpanoksestani luopua... olen luvannut Zakharchenkolle palvelevani lojaalisti. Täällä.

Mutta kuten olen elämässäni oppinut, kaikki voi muuttua yhdessä yössä ja jos tähän siirtokunnan perustamiseen löytyy tahtotilaa, saamme varmasti kokoon tarvittavan työryhmän. Mutta ideoidaan nyt ihan ensin.

Minun on myönnettävä, että tämä idea pohjaa jo aikaan jolloin perustin patrioottien Kilvenmaa-yhteisön Alajärvelle ja erityisesti, kun selllaisen pyörittäminen osui kaikkiin mahdollisiin hankaluuksiin, osoittautuen myös mahdottomaksi miehitetyn ja ylihinnakkaan Suomen ympäristössä. Jo tuolloin ajattelin ääneen, että ehkä tällainen suomalaisuuden suojelemisen hanke onnistuisi paremmin Venäjän Karjalassa, jossa ympäristö olisi varmasti ystävällisempi ja sijainti karsisi jo olemassaolollaan asiasta todella ymmärtämättömät.

Harkitsen nyt esitetyn idean eteenpäin saattamiseksi "Takaisin Karjalaan" -ryhmän avaamista, jotta idealle saadaan keskustelua ja ajatuksia aiheesta voidaan vaihtaa.

Nämä on syytä avata sekä Vkontakte -palveluun että Facebookiin, eikä ainakaan täysin avoimina ja vapaina ryhminä kaiken maailman isoveljen NATO-trollien ja nettipoliisien takia. Heille kun kaikki patrioottinen ruohonjuuritason isänmaallinen ja alueellista vakautta, multipolarismia ja Suomen perustuslakia kannattava on "vihamielistä ryssien propagandaa"

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch Foreign Minister Halbe Zijlstra admitted on Monday that he lied about hearing Russian President Vladimir Putin make comments about plans for a "greater Russia."

While election campaigning two years ago, Zijlstra said that in 2006 he had been at Putin's dacha when he heard the Kremlin leader speak of plans for a "greater Russia" which would include some of Russia's neighbors.

"I was tucked away back in the room, but I could clearly hear Putin's answer to the question about what he considered greater Russia," Zijlstra told a gathering then of his People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, which heads the new Dutch government.

"He said this included Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and the Baltic states, and, well, Kazakhstan would be 'nice to have'," he said in his speech which was recorded on video.

But on Monday he acknowledged he had never been at the meeting with Putin and had heard of the comments second hand.

"The discussion did take place and someone who was there told me what President Putin said about greater Russia," Zijlstra said in a statement after admitting the lie in an interview with the Dutch daily De Volkskrant.

Etelä-Venäjällä useita ihmisiä on saanut surmansa ampumisessa kirkon luona.

Venäläismedian mukaan asemies avasi tulen, kun ihmiset olivat tulossa ulos kirkosta. Hyökkäys tapahtui Kizljarin kaupungissa Dagestanissa Pohjois-Kaukasiassa lähellä Tšetšenian rajaa.

Kuolonuhreja oli heti ampumatapauksen jälkeen neljä, mutta venäläisten uutistoimistojen mukaan viides ihminen on kuollut sairaalassa. Tämän hetkisten tietojen mukaan kuolonuhrit ovat kirkosta poistumassa olleita naisia. Lisäksi useita ihmisiä on haavoittunut, heistä ainakin kaksi hyvin vakavasti.

Venäläiskanava RT:n mukaan (siirryt toiseen palveluun) Venäjän sisäministeriö on vahvistanut ampumavälikohtauksen. RT kertoo myös, että ampujalla oli metsästyskivääri.

Venäläisen Interfax-uutistoimiston mukaan ampuja oli vuonna 1995 syntynyt paikallinen mies. Sekä uutistoimisto TASS että venäläiskanava RT kertovat ampujan kuolleen tämän yritettyä paeta paikalta.

Uutistoimisto AFP:n kertoo, että hyökkääjän uskotaan olleen ääri-islamisti.

Dagestan on alueena levoton ja yksi Venäjän köyhimpiä. Siellä asuu useita kansallisuuksia ja sen asukkaista vain kymmenisen prosenttia on syntyperältään venäläisiä. Dagestanin asukkaista enemmistö on muslimeita.

Aleksandr Dugin on venäläinen politologi, filosofi ja eurasianismin puolestapuhuja. Eurasianismin juuret juontavat slavofiiliajattelijoihin, jotka Nikolai Trubetskoin johdolla kehittelivät ajatusta Venäjästä, joka ei olisi itämainen mutta ei länsimainenkaan. Varhaiset eurasianistit katsoivat, että Neuvostoliitto tulisi ennen pitkää kehittymään uudeksi kansalliseksi, ei-eurooppalaiseksi ja ortodoksikristilliseksi yhteisöksi, jättäen taakseen proletaarisen internationalismin ja militantin ateismin. Neuvostoliiton romahdettua Aleksandr Dugin nousi uudelleen määritellyn eurasianismin johtavaksi esiintuojaksi. A court in the central Russian city of Cheboksary has drawn attention for ordering a prisoner to remove Nazi tattoos from his body.

District court Judge Vladimir Mitrofanov ordered a 1,000-ruble fine ($18) against R.R. Gabidullin -- an inmate at the No. 6 federal prison colony -- and for his tattoos to be "confiscated...in the form of self-removal [from] his body two images similar to Nazi symbols."

Although there have been several cases in Russia since 2014 -- when the law was tightened against the display of "extremist" symbols -- of prisoners being fined for having Nazi symbols tattooed on their body, this appears to be the first case in which the prisoner has also been ordered to remove the offending images.

Aleksei Glukhov, a lawyer in Russia's Chuvash Republic who specializes in human rights issues, tells RFE/RL that he sent a letter to Chuvash chief prosecutor Vasily Poslovsky urging him to appeal the February 8 court decision.

"If you believe the press release of the court [decision then]...the convict must remove the two tattoos himself," says Glukhov, who has represented dozens of people at the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg. "But I believe that the court is not entitled to demand this from the convict and also does not have the right to order, as punishment, the confiscation of the tattoos."

Russia's Nazi Furor

As in many prison communities around the world, tattoos are popular among Russian inmates, and it is not uncommon to see Nazi symbols, including swastikas despite Russian pride at having defeated Adolf Hitler's army in what Russians call the Great Patriotic War, on convicts.

"Before 2014, no one in Russia would have thought of penalizing prisoners for having swastika tattoos," Glukhov says. "But since November 2014, the wording of Article 20.3 of Russia's Code of Administrative Offenses was changed and now you don't have to be trying to promote Nazi ideology [with the symbol], you only have to display it in order to be prosecuted."

He adds that "now you can technically be prosecuted in Russia even for showing a swastika in a historical photo from World War II."
