Reportaasi: Bosnian ja Kroatian rajalla haaveillaan Saksasta ja Italiasta

Välimeren reitin vaarallisuuden takia on Balkanin reitille tullut jälleen enemmän pakolaisia ja siirtolaisia. Bosnialaisen Velika Kladušan kaupungin liepeille on syntynyt telttaleiri, jonne toiset ovat juuttuneet yrittäessään pohjoiseen, toiset taas on palautettu Kroatiasta tai Sloveniasta.

Tunnin ajomatkan päässä Karlovacista käännymme sivutielle, jota reunustavat Jugoslavian hajoamissotien aikaiset hautakivet ja luodinreikien täplittämät talot. Tie vie syrjäiselle raja-asemalle. Lyhyet muodollisuudet, ja olemme siirtyneet Kroatiasta Bosniaan, Velika Kladušan kaupunkiin.

Velika Kladuša on vain paikka kartalla, jos ei muista, että vuosina 1993–1995 se oli lyhytikäisen Länsi-Bosnian tasavallan pääkaupunki. Tämä alue kapinoi Bosnian keskushallitusta vastaan ja sai tukea Serbian ja Kroatian asejoukoilta.

Viime vuosina Velika Kladuša pääsi takaisin uutisiin, kun kaupunkia ympäröivillä alueilla kerrottiin olevan Isisiä sympatisoivien salafistimuslimien yhteisöjä.

Mutta nyt Velika Kladušasta on tullut etappi tuhansille Balkanin reittiä kulkeville pakolaisille ja siirtolaisille. Täältä he – turhaan – yrittävät päästä Kroatiaan ja sitten Italiaan tai Saksaan.

Lähellä kaupunkia, viljapeltojen toiselle puolelle on noussut telttakylä, jonne on majoittunut arviolta 1 200 pakolaista. Toiset ovat juuttuneet tänne yrittäessään pohjoiseen, toiset on Kroatian tai Slovenian poliisi palauttanut. Ihmisiä majailee myös metsässä, parkkipaikoilla ja hylätyissä rakennuksissa. Jotkut ovat päässeet paikallisten asukkaiden luokse.

Pahimmat vammat ovat kuitenkin Kroatian poliisien aiheuttamia. Aukealla tulee vastaan ihmisiä, joilla on käsi tai jalka kipsissä tai ihossa tupakan polttamia haavoja. Kroatian puolta vartioi suuri joukko poliiseja tukenaan helikoptereita ja koirapartioita.

Palautetut kertovat, miten heitä on hakattu. Jokainen vahvistaa, että heidän puhelimensa on rikottu, jotta ei olisi kuvia ja gps-tietoja kertomassa heidän käännyttämisestään. Toiset kertovat, että rahatkin ja henkilökohtaiset tavarat on viety.

– Ymmärrän, että jos joku saapuu maahan ilman papereita, hänet lähetetään takaisin. Mutta minun pitäisi päästä Italiaan, siellä on 15-vuotias tyttäreni. Vaimoni on nyt mennyt uusiin naimisiin, mutta en välitä siitä, minä haluan vain elää, tehdä työtä ja pitää tyttäreni turvassa, sanoo 42-vuotias marokkolainen Iflah.

Iranilainen Babak on juuri saapunut vaimonsa ja kolmen lapsensa kanssa. Babak kertoo, että he ovat jo kaksi kertaa yrittäneet kulkea "viidakon" läpi. Tämän nimityksen pakolaiset ovat antaneet Kroatian ja Bosnian raja-alueella sijaitseville metsille.

– Mutta emme ole päässeet läpi. Haluaisimme päästä Saksaan, jossa veljeni asuu, kertoo Babak.

Punjabista saapuneiden muslimien seurassa on myös Nanak, joka on sikhi. Hänellä on iso musta turbaani päässään.

– Minulla on linja-auton ajokortti. Haluaisin Roomaan. Minkälainen on tilanne Italiassa nyt? hän kysyy.

Illan saapuessa Velika Kladušan epäviralliselle telttaleirille kuuluu kaupungista muezzinin rukouskutsu. Bosnian lippu liehuu telttojen keskellä, Adis ja kumppanit keräilevät päivän aikana käytettyjä materiaaleja. Leirin sisäänkäynnin luona sijaitsevaa generaattoria hoitava kaupungin työntekijä istuu skootteriinsa ja lähtee kotiin. Muutama pakistanilainen poika on kyhännyt jonkinlaisen onkivavan, ja he yrittävät saada kalaa leirin vieressä olevasta mutaisesta joesta.

Iflah etsii isompaa selkäreppua.

– Ensi yönä yritämme taas. Nyt meitä on viisi. Viime kerralla onnistuimme pääsemään 20 kilometrin päähän Italiasta ennen kuin poliisi pysäytti meidät.

Me jätämme jälkeemme Velika Kladušan, jonka ottomaanien aikainen linna ja minareetit kohoavat taivasta vasten. Palaaminen Kroatiaan on yhtä helppoa kuin sieltä tänne tuleminenkin.

Ei tarvita muuta kuin eurooppalainen passi.

Makedonia­ssa on löytynyt 44 rekassa salakuljetettua matua. Viranomaisten mukaan ihmissalakuljetus on lisääntynyt viime kuukausina.

Bulgaria ei suostu tekemään kahdenvälisiä sopimuksia muiden EU-maiden kanssa sen kautta kulkeneiden "siirtolaisten" palauttamiseksi.

The Latest: Macedonian police find 44 migrants inside truck

Macedonian police say they have found 44 migrants hidden in a truck on a highway in center of the country.

Police said Friday they had pursued the vehicle late Wednesday until the driver stopped the van near a highway tunnel. The 44 migrants — 10 Syrians, 20 Pakistanis, 12 Afghans and two Indian — were found inside the vehicle, while the driver fled and evaded arrest.

The migrants were detained for questioning in southern Macedonian town of Gevgleija, near the border with Greece. Police gave no other details of where the migrants had traveled from.

Authorities say migrant smuggling has increased in a recent months.

Bulgaria is rejecting signing bilateral deals with other European Union countries to readmit migrants who entered the EU through the Balkan country.

Backed by a vast majority of legislators across party lines, Parliament on Friday approved a resolution barring the government from signing readmission agreements and proposed reforms to the EU's asylum rules.

Currently, migrants are supposed to be returned to the countries where they first entered the EU and applied for asylum, but such regulations have been rarely enforced.

Bulgaria, which has sealed off its border with Turkey with a barbed wire fence to prevent the country becoming the new gateway to Europe, is now calling for the closure of all external EU borders to migrants and for setting up refugee camps in Libya and Turkey.

Mass Migration Activists Warn Croatian Police to Stop Protecting Border

Accusing Croatian police of violence against illegal immigrants, mass migration activists have demanded officers disobey orders relating to border protection or else face increasing pressure from foreign NGOs.

Local media reports the Welcome initiative, representing hundreds of groups involved with assisting asylum seekers in the Balkan nation, claimed that while border patrol officers enjoy support from the public for their work minimising illegal immigration, police are carrying out a campaign of abuse towards third world migrants.

While border patrol officers have been praised for their work monitoring Croatia's frontier with Bosnia and pushing back illegal immigrants, with both endeavours enjoying wide public support, the NGO claims the people it unfailingly describes as "refugees" suffer persecution, physical and psychological violence at the hands of authorities.

"There is no doubt that Croatian police have perpetrated physical violence on refugees, and sexually harassed them," the open borders group asserted in a statement, claiming: "This has been confirmed by testimonies and reports from domestic and international NGOs.

"Attempts to play down such practices by claiming that allegations against border police [of unacceptable behaviour] are a clear indicator that the force wishes to keep the truth of its systematic abuse of migrants suppressed," it said.

In order to improve the force's image, the Welcome initiative said officers must begin refusing to carry out orders related to border protection, so as to "expose the injustice and absurdity of policies aimed at shutting out people who are in need of security".

On Tuesday, Slovenian interior minister Boštjan Šefic urged Croatia to step up its border security, stressing that the figure of roughly 1,000 third world migrants crossing into its territory after entering the newest EU member state was unacceptable.

Noting that Slovenian police discovered a group of around two dozen illegal immigrants on Monday, Šefic warned his government would be forced to "take [border control] measures which would not only make things difficult for ourselves, but also for other [EU nations]".

Bosnia Fears Becoming New Calais as Migrants Surge Across Border

More and more migrants have been surging across the border into Bosnia in recent months, hoping to cross into European Union via Croatia. The influx may be fueling prior tensions between ethnic and religious groups in the country.

The Bosnian town of Bihac and the nearby village of Izačić have become a hub for newly arriving migrants, with an estimated 4,000 currently living in the town which boasts a population of only 60,000, Liberation reports.

Around 50 migrants arrive in the area every day, according to reports and NGOs, and others say they are not fully equipped to deal with the numbers and that tensions are rising among the migrants.

"This place is not safe at night," a Kurdish migrant living in the area said, adding: "There are fights, knives circulating. The police refuse to intervene."

The president of the majority-Serbian autonomous Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, labelled the influx of migrants, the majority of them Muslims, an "invasion".

"In Republika Srpska, we do not have space to create centres for migrants," he said.

Suhret Fazlic, mayor of Bihac, claimed that the Republic of Srpska was directly expelling the migrants from their territory and sending them to his town, noting that several Republic of Srpska towns also lie within close proximity to the Croatian border.

"We are afraid to become Calais, to be submerged," he said, referring to the French city on the English Channel, which has become a launchpad for thousands of often violent illegal migrants seeking passage to the United Kingdom.

Two migrants shot dead in Serbia: police

Two migrants were shot dead on a road in Serbia near the village of Dobrinci, around 45 km (28 miles) northwest of the capital Belgrade, police said on Wednesday, giving no details of their deaths or identity.

Hundreds of thousands of migrants passed through the so-called 'Balkan route' from the Middle East, Africa and Asia passed on their way to the West in 2015 but it was shut in 2016 when Turkey agreed to stem the flow of people in return for EU aid and a promise of visa-free travel for its own citizens.

Migrants still arrive in Serbia, however, mainly from Turkey, via neighboring Bulgaria. Frequently they use smuggling networks.

There are as many as 3,600 migrants in government-operated camps in Serbia, officials say.

Rights activists say hundreds of others are scattered in Belgrade and towns along the borders of Bosnia, Croatia and Hungary as they try to enter the European Union.

Serbian authorities have arrested dozens of people smugglers but incidence of violence involving migrants are rare.

Official of Security Police in Sofia Detained for Driving Migrants

Plovdiv, Southern Bulgaria, August 7 (BTA) - A 29-year-old policeman of the Security Police of the Sofia Regional Directorate of the Interior has been detained for driving migrants, as part of a pre-trial proceeding conducted by the Karlovo, Southern Bulgaria, Regional Prosecution Office, Plovdiv District Prosecutor Roumen Popov told a news conference Tuesday.

On the evening of August 5, driving a Mercedes car the detained official, along with the drivers of three other cars, went to take 16 migrants from near Bourgas, on the Black Sea, and drove them to Sofia on August 6. The detainee went back for another six migrants. On the way to Sofia he did not stop when asked by traffic policemen. The driver headed to Karlovo where he dropped the six passengers and their belongings, but kept some of their more valuable items. The police chased him and he was stopped in Pirdop, Central Bulgaria.

The 16 migrants were found in a flat of the detained official in Sofia. All of the migrants are male. Fifteen are adults, one is a child of about 10. The six migrants left in Karlovo are between 16 and 29 years old. They identify themselves as coming from Afghanistan and being headed to Western Europe. An investigation is underway to see how they entered Bulgaria.

The detained policeman said that he was supposed to be paid 2,000 leva for the two trips and that he had been asked to make them "incidentally". Popov said, however, that initial information indicates the existence of an organized crime group.

Dozens of Migrants Caught Crossing from Bosnia to Croatia to Slovenia

A 50-year-old Serbian national was caught transporting 38 western Europe-bound Pakistanis, who were crammed into a van, through Croatia and he was intercepted By Lika-Senj County police on Tuesday in the village of Bunić near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The police filed charges against the van driver for having illegally entered Croatia and for using wrong Slovenian plates on the van.

On Monday, the Slovenian police reported that in the previous four days they had caught 34 irregular migrants near the border crossings of Metlika and Črnomelj.

The Slovenian law enforcement authorities have warned about a rising number of migrants coming via western Bosnia and passin through Croatia on their way to western and north Europe.

Police in Croatia say they have intercepted a group of 10 migrants in a dense forest, and another two who had apparently died en route.

Police in the central town of Karlovac said Sunday the group who entered the country illegally were found after a tip from locals. Police say they have opened an investigation about the deaths, and did not specify any of the migrants' nationalities.

Local media say they likely were killed in a landslide in a rugged terrain after they crossed from neighboring Bosnia.

Several thousand migrants remain stuck in Bosnia as they aim to reach the wealthy nations in Western Europe. Migrants often first try to cross to European Union member Croatia.

The Latest: Dozens in Bosnian town protest migrant arrivals

A few dozen people have gathered in the northwestern Bosnian town of Bihac to protest the government's response to an unprecedented influx of migrants from the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Protesters who assembled Monday in a square in the center of Bihac accused the state government of intentionally sending migrants to their town without identifying and registering them or providing them with proper accommodation. They reject the claim that Bihac is an obvious gathering place chosen by migrants because of its proximity to the border with Croatia, a member of the European Union.

Thousands of migrants are staying in squalid, makeshift camps in Bihac and the surrounding towns, relying on limited support of the local Red Cross and a couple of international aid agencies.

Over 9,300 migrants have entered Bosnia so far this year.

The lucky ones escaped with only their mobile phones smashed. Those less fortunate say they were beaten with sticks, taunted or attacked with dogs. Many allege they had large sums of money stolen.

According to the testimony of migrants and monitoring groups, the Croatian police force is engaging in a systematic campaign of violence and theft against migrants and refugees attempting to find a route to western Europe through the country.

The Guardian spoke to dozens of men in the Bosnian border towns of Velika Kladuša and Bihać, who said they had been subjected to violence at the hands of Croatian police after crossing into the country. Most women interviewed said they had not been targeted, but had witnessed attacks on men in their groups, although a minority of women said they had been beaten or strip-searched.

Many people had mobile phones with mangled charger sockets and cracked screens, damage caused by the Croatian police, they said. Others said police had stolen their phones and large sums of money. In all cases, Croatian police drove people back to the border in the night and pushed them back to Bosnia.

"Ten days ago they took all our money," said Chouaïb, 30, from Algeria, who like others gave only his first name. "More than €1,000. They ripped up my passport, and then started beating us with batons. You risk your life in the hills. You don't sleep. Maybe you die. OK, the police catch you and send you back, that would be normal. But why do they beat us? Why do they humiliate us?"

Karolina Augustova, a volunteer with the NGO No Name Kitchen in Velika Kladuša, who has been taking testimonies from people deported back to Bosnia by Croatian police in the past two months, said there were between 50 and 100 people pushed back per week, and that is just in the vicinity of Velika Kladuša.

"The vast majority have been robbed or had their phones damaged, and between 60 and 70% of them report police violence," she said. In recent weeks, the NGO has documented  that appear to have been inflicted with police batons.

Last year, there were fewer than 1,000 migrant arrivals to Bosnia, but this year the Balkan country has seen at least 9,000.

Serbiasta Bosniaan pyrkinyt 15 laittoman siirtolaisen ryhmä yritti ylittää Bosnian ja Serbian rajajoen Drinan Zvornikista alajuoksulle päin, kertoo serbialainen B92. Vesi oli kuitenkin niin korkealla, että yritys epäonnistui ja laittomat siirtolaiset juuttuivat pienelle saarelle.

Sekä Bosnian että Serbian rajavalvojat tarkkailivat tilannetta maanantaina, ja kun veden pinnan korkeus oli pudonnut riittävästi, laittomat siirtolaiset otettiin kiinni ja palautettiin Serbiaan.

"We Too Were Refugees" – in a Bosnian Field, a Helping Hand

An hour's drive from the Croatian town of Karlovac, down a side road lined with tombstones and houses pocked with bullet holes, there is a desolate border crossing between Croatia and Bosnia. Beyond lays Velika Kladusa, a place that seems to exist only on the map.

Between 1993 and 1995 it was the capital of the self-declared Autonomous Republic of Western Bosnia, the fiefdom of Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) businessman Fikret Abdic, known for the pacts he made with the Serbs and Croats against his fellow Bosniaks in Sarajevo during Bosnia's 1992-95 war.

Today, it is a transit point for thousands of migrants and refugees from the Middle East, Africa and Asia trying to enter the European Union via Croatia en route to Western Europe.

In a field not far from the town a tent city has sprung up as temporary home to some of the 1,200 migrants and refugees who find their way forward blocked by heavy-handed Croatian police.

Some nurse wounds from their attempts to cross the border and slip past the police. Some sleep in the woods, others in parking lots or abandoned buildings.

The lucky ones are put up by generous locals, of which there are many. Restaurants offer free meals and drinks, supermarkets offer discounts, local firms offer casual work.

The town-centre restaurant 'Kod Latana' has turned into a soup kitchen, offering two free sit-down meals a day.

"We too were refugees," said 64-year-old the manager who only gave the first name, Asim.

"What we're doing is not charity, it is a requirement of our history and our humanity that we help and respect every human being, especially those in difficulty."

With the help of migrants and refugees, Adis erects wooden planks and hangs eco-friendly plastic sheeting as curtains. Insect bites torment those sleeping in the weeds and mud, but the most difficult wounds to heal are those inflicted by Croatian police – broken limbs, cigarette burns.

Croatian authorities deny using violence towards those trying to enter, but international rights watchdogs such the evidence is overwhelming.

Migrants and refugees frequently return with their mobile phones crushed, money and personal belongings seized.

Montenegro authorities have stepped up checks and surveillance of the border with Albania, from which over 2,800 migrants have entered the country since January.

Local media report that for the past week divisions of the Montenegro army have been deployed on the border with Albania to support police forces and prevent further arrivals of migrants and refugees.

Over the past few months, a new 'Balkan route' has been activated by migrants from the Middle East, Turkey and Greece, a flow that instead of heading towards Macedonia and Serbia - as occurred during the 2015-2016 crisis - seek to reach Western Europe through Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina. From there they try to cross into the European Union by entering Croatia or Slovenia to then reach Austria, Germany or Italy.

Croatian police violence and looming Bosnian elections add to migrants' woes

They call it "the game", and its risks and rewards can be life-changing.

For thousands of migrants now gathered here in northwest Bosnia, winning the game means reaching Italy or Austria – a promised land of safety and prosperity – after crossing Croatia and Slovenia undetected.

Losing means being sent back to a squalid Bosnian border camp at Velika Kladusa, or a derelict dormitory in nearby Bihac, which mark the start of this level of the game; for many it also brings robbery and violence and, for a few players, death.

Bosnia has recorded the arrival of 11,000 migrants this year, after registering only 755 in 2017. The "Balkan route" by which more than a million people reached the EU in 2015 has thereby taken a new turn to avoid tighter border controls.

About 4,000 migrants are currently in Bosnia at any one time, with hundreds arriving each week through Montenegro and Serbia and moving on into Croatia, through thickly wooded hills around Velika Kladusa that they call "the jungle".

People keep coming here from the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa, despite the appalling conditions and mounting reports of Croatian police violence, as they race to complete the game before autumn rain and cold weather hit Bosnia.

Another growing threat

As the travellers huddle over smart phones to study Google Maps and chat groups full of tips and warnings for the way ahead, they may be unaware of another growing threat – the anti-migrant messages now being peddled by some Bosnian politicians ahead of national elections on October 7th.

He says he once watched helplessly as Croatian police severely beat four Pakistani men with whom he was travelling; back in Bosnia, a people-smuggler stole €2,000 from him at gunpoint.

For several months he rented a flat in Velika Kladusa until the owner told the family to leave.

Now they are living in this desperate outpost of ragged tents and crude shelters, pitched in a dusty clearing beside a dog shelter and a fetid stream. There is a makeshift washing area and a few rancid portable toilets, but most people just use the woods. On recent days the temperature has climbed towards 40 degrees, while during summer storms, rainwater and raw sewage flood the camp.

Bosnian police intercept 50 migrants on cargo train

Bosnian police stopped about 50 migrants from Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan trying to cross from Serbia in a cargo train overnight on Friday as authorities step up patrols of the border.

Bosnia had not been on the well-trodden migrant route through the Balkans to European Union nations until earlier this year when arrivals jumped. About 11,000 people from Asia and North Africa have been registered as arriving so far this year.

Still recovering from a devastating war in the 1990s, Bosnia was bypassed in 2015 and 2016 when more than a million migrants and refugees passed through the Balkans. But as borders have closed elsewhere, Bosnia has become a new transit route.

"Migrants are crossing the River Drina (the border between Serbia and Bosnia). They pay between 250 and 300 euros to smugglers to take them over the Drina," said a police source who asked not to be named.

The cargo train carrying coal was stopped near the Bosnian border town of Zvornik on the banks of the River Drina. As the train was brought to a halt, some of the migrants onboard jumped out and started running, some back to Serbia, said a Reuters photographer who witnessed the operation.

A group remained on the train and were then turned back to Serbia, the photographer and police said. Local police did not give further details.

Croatia has an important role in the protection of the European Union's longest external border and in prevention of a new migrant crisis, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said in an interview which Die Welt released on Saturday.

In his interview for the German national daily newspaper published by the Axel Springer SE publishing group, Plenković refuted criticism that Croatian police forcibly stopped migrants along its borderline. "The Croatian police implement national and European legislation and rules, including the Schengen Borders Code and the Dublin Regulation," the prime minister said.

This is essential for efforts to prevent the recurrence of uncontrolled migrations such happened in 2015 or occurence of irregular migrations along new route, he explains.

This past Tuesday, Plenković was received in Berlin by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and migrations was one of the topics on the agenda of their talks. In the last month there has been an increase in migratory pressure on the Bulgarian-Turkish border. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Krassimir Karakachanov. For 40 days, 222 illegal migrants were not allowed on Bulgarian territory. At this stage, there is no need to increase the military presence along the border, but the state is ready to react even when large masses of migrants appear, Karakachanov pointed out.

Deputy PM Karakachanov Pleased with Seamless Coordination between Interior, Defence Ministries in Border Protection

Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Krassimir Karakachanov joined members of the media and local government officials to watch a Special Forces demonstration of deterring an influx of illegal immigrants into Bulgarian territory, Karakachanov's Ministry said in a press release.

"Both the Border Police and the Bulgarian Armed Forces are protecting the border on a 24/7 basis. We take this mission extremely seriously," Karakachanov said in Malko Turnovo (Southeastern Bulgaria, near the border with Turkey).

In his words, the army will remain at the border as long as the Border Police will need assistance and as long as Bulgarian society will need protection. Plans have been drawn up and, if necessary and in case of a large migrant influx, the Border Police can be reinforced by up to 2,700 personnel and nearly 500 units of equipment, the Defence Ministry said.

FYROM police detain 120 migrants crossing from Greece

Police in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia say they have detained 120 migrants, in two separate cases, who illegally entered the country from Greece, as the number of illegal crossings has significantly risen in recent months.

Police said on Sunday that a border police patrol discovered 37 migrants in southern FYROM, near the frontier with Greece. They were detained, but police gave no more details about their nationality.

In a second case, 83 migrants, 11 of them minors, and most of them Pakistanis (76), were discovered packed in a truck coming from Greece. The truck driver was detained and the migrants transferred to the reception center in the southern town of Gevgelija.

FYROM police say they have turned back about 6,600 migrants attempting to cross the border in the first half of 2018.

Balkanilla Bosnia-Hertsegovinan ja Kroatian rajalla laittomien siirtolaisten aiheuttama paine on ylittämässä kriittisen pisteen.
Kroatian poliisi odottaa Bosnia Hertsegovinasta "hyökkäystä ennen talven tuloa". Hyökkääjät, laittomat siirtolaiset, puhuvat "pelistä". Pelin tavoitteena on päästä Euroopan unioniin.

Hyvin harva hakee turvapaikkaa Balkanilta, sillä siellä ei ole heille mitään tarjolla. Vuonna 2018 tähän mennessä 13 184 ihmistä on saapunut laittomasti Bosnia-Hertsegovinaan, mutta vain 1 000 turvapaikkahakemusta on jätetty viranomaisille.

Bosnian police have detained two migrants from Syria and Algeria and found hidden weapons during a raid in the capital Sarajevo, the police said on Monday.

"During the raid of several locations, the police found a rifle, four pistols, gun silencer and ammunition," Sarajevo police spokeswoman Suvada Kuldija told Reuters, adding the raid took place on Sunday evening. She declined to provide details.

Kroatian kovakouraisen maineen hankkinut rajavartiosto saa apua EU-rajaviranomaiselta Frontexilta rajan suojelemiseen.

Tästä tuli mieleen äskettäinen (18.9.2018) tapaus Kroatian rajalla. Kärsimättömiä Saksaan haluavia "pakolaisia" täynnä oleva auto päätti ylittää Kroatian rajan väkisin. Kroatian rajavartijat ampuivat kohti autoa ja takana istunut tyttö loukkaantui luodeista. Tyttö tietysti jutun kuvassa surullinen ilme kasvoilla... nyyh. Ja taas nousee säälin sijasta mieleen ainoastaan inho vastuuntunnottimia vanhempia kohtaan. Kroatian rajavartijat toimivat minusta niinkuin sellaisessa tilanteessa pitääkin.

Juttu on maksumuurin takana, joten siitä ei saa enempää irti. Odottelin silloin muiden lehtien tarttuvan nyyhkyjuttuun, mutta mikään toinen media ei kiinnostunut syötistä.

Croatian police have discovered 70 illegal migrants in a truck operated by two Bulgarian citizens, reported BGNews.

The two Bulgarians aged 19 and 29 are detained near the town of Vinkovtsi in the eastern part of Croatia. The 70 migrants were found in the search of their truck. All of them were without identity papers. Among them was a child aged 13-14. All of them are transferred to the police station in Vinkovci.

The two Bulgarians were detained and handed over to the investigation. They have been charged with illegal human trafficking and will stay on the territory of Croatia. Croatian judicial authorities have launched an investigation to clarify how illegal migrants entered their territory.

Illegal migrants will be returned to the country they came from, says the police message. The incident happened on Monday at 23.00 local time.

Serbialaisessa Loznican kaupungissa kuohuu, kertoo Wochenblick. Facebookiin laitetussa videossa näkyy, kuinka siirtolaiset juoksevat alushoususillaan ympäriinsä pitkin hautausmaata, leiriytyvät sinne, peseytyvät suihkulähteessä ja käyttävät hautausmaata WC:nä.

Video on levinnyt sosiaalisessa mediassa myrskyn lailla ja kirvoittanut kitkeriä kommentteja.

– Mitä jos me menisimme heidän hautausmailleen alushousuissa ... tuo sama alkaa kohta kirkoissa, sielläkin on vettä, eräs näkemästään järkyttynyt kirjoitti.

Toinen, Liljana M. vahvisti, että video on aito mutta ihmetteli syvästi, miksi tällaisen sallitaan jatkuvan. Kolmas puolestaan vaati kansalaisia toimintaan, sillä "valtio ei auta kuitenkaan."

Laittomien siirtolaisten liikehdintä alueella ei ole uusi asia

Hautausmaalla on ollut laittomien siirtolaisten liikehdintää jo pitkään. Asukkaiden valituksista huolimatta viranomaiset eivät ole pystyneet korjaamaan tilannetta.

Videon julkaisemisen jälkeen 20 asukasta vaati viranomaisia tekemään asialle viimeinkin jotain. Lopulta suihkulähde suljettiin, laittomien siirtolaisten pääsy hautausmaalle estettiin ja alueelle järjestettiin videovalvonta.

Massiivinen kahakka maahanmuuttajaleirillä Bosnia-Hertsegovinassa

Bosnia-Hertsegovinassa lähellä Kroatian rajaa sijaitsevalla maahanmuuttajaleirillä useiden eri väestöryhmien välillä puhkesi massiivinen kahakka. Väkivaltaiset maahanmuuttajat hyökkäsivät myös poliisin kimppuun.

Taistelua käytiin Bihaćissa sijaitsevalla maahanmuuttajaleirillä iranilaisten, afgaanien ja muiden maahanmuuttajien välillä, kertoo Total Croatia News. Taistelu kesti useita tunteja, ja myös poliisin ja leirin vartijoiden kimppuun hyökättiin. Taistelun aikana myös poliisiauto vaurioitui.

Tilanne lähti eskaloitumaan, kun kahden iranilaisen välisessä kahakassa toinen sai vakavia vammoja. Vartijat soittivat poliisin, mutta samaan aikaan ruokajonossa puhkesi massiivinen taistelu.

Poliisin vahvistusjoukkojen saavuttua paikalle tilanne rauhoittui hetkeksi, mutta poliisin kuulustellessa iranilaisia silminnäkijöitä, toinen maahanmuuttajaryhmä hyökkäsi poliisin kimppuun. Poliisi sai tilanteen hallintaan vasta ammuttuaan varoituslaukauksia.

Poliisi tutkii edelleen tapausta. Ennen maahanmuuttajien hyökkäystä poliisin kimppuun, tapausta todistaneiden kuulusteluissa ehti selvitä , että afgaanit olivat kohdelleet muita maahanmuuttajaryhmiä kaltoin päivittäin.

Romania­ssa on löydetty eilen turkkilaisen kuljettamasta rekasta 47 matua (irakilaisia, iranilaisia, turkkilaisia), joiden epäillään yrittäneen päästä maan kautta Länsi-Eurooppaan. Suurin osa näistä oli jo hakenut turvapaikkaa Romaniasta.

Poliisi epäilee kuskia ja apuria ihmissalakuljetuksesta.

The Latest: 47 migrants found in truck at Romania's border

Romanian border police say they suspect 47 people found hidden in the back of a truck were migrants trying to reach a country in Western Europe.

The Border Police General Inspectorate said officers discovered the group on Monday at a crossing in western Romania that borders Hungary.

The inspectorate says the passengers - 25 men, 12 women and 10 children - were Iraqi, Iranian and Turkish citizens and most had applied for asylum in Romania.

The border police say the truck had a Turkish driver and carried boxes of porcelain that hid its human cargo.

Police are investigating the driver and a companion on suspicion of human trafficking.

Kroatia­n Slunjissa lähellä Bosnia-Hertsegovinan rajaa sotaharjoitus sai yllättävän käänteen, kun yhtäkkiä sotilaiden edestä pusikosta ryntäsi 20 pelästynyttä "siirtolaista". Alueen metsissä on asustellut laittomia matuja jo pitkään.

Kroatiassa laittomat siirtolaiset pakenivat armeijaa

Kroatialaiset sotilaat kokivat yllätyksen sotaharjoituksessa Slunjissa, kun etenevien sotajoukkojen edestä pensaikosta kaksikymmentä laitonta siirtolaista ryntäsi yhtäkkiä täyteen laukkaan. Siirtolaiset ilmeisesti luulivat Kroatian armeijan ajavan heitä takaa.

Kroatian Slunjissa lähellä Bosnia-Hertsegovinan rajaa 1 100 sotilaan ja 80 asejärjestelmän (tankkeja, miehistönkuljetusvaunuja, heittimiä, helikoptereita, lentokoneita) sotaharjoitus sai yllättävän käänteen, kun etenevien sotavoimien edestä pensaikosta lähti yhtäkkiä täyteen laukkaan kaksikymmentä laitonta siirtolaista.

– He olivat säikähtäneitä. He luulivat, että ammumme heitä. Heitä oli noin 20. Luovutimme heidät sotilaspoliisille, kertoi eräs sotaharjoitukseen osallistunut sotilas.

Laittomia siirtolaisia asunut metsissä jo pitkään

Alueen metsissä  on asustellut laittomia siirtolaisia jo pitkään. Kroatian sisäministeriö on seurannut tilannetta rajalla ja aikoo ryhtyä toimenpiteisiin parantamalla laittomien siirtolaisten majoitusolosuhteita. Ministeriö aikoo myös parantaa rajavalvontaa.

Paikalliset asukkaat ovat valittaneet, että heidät on jätetty yksin taistelemaan laittomien siirtolaisten hallitsematonta virtaa vastaan.

Serbia­laisen oppositiopoliitikon Dveri Srđan Nogon mielestä pääministeri ja presidentti tulisi hirttää, mikäli Dublin-palautuksia koskeva asiakirja allekirjoitetaan. Maahan saatettaisiin hänen mukaansa palauttaa tämän myötä jopa 1,2 miljoonaa matua.

Serbialainen oppositiopoliitikko uhkaa hirttää pääministerin ja presidentin, jos hallitus suostuu pakolaisten Dublin-palautuksiin

"Jos pääministeri allekirjoittaa pakolaissopimuksen, laittakaa hänet roikkumaan presidentin viereen". Näin vaatii serbialainen oppositiopoliitikko Dveri Srđan Nogo.

Serbialainen oppositiopoliitikko Dveri Srđan Nogo ei hyväksy maan hallituksen kaavailemaa pakolaisten Dublin-palautusta koskevan asiakirjan allekirjoittamista, kertoo serbialainen B92. Nogo pelkää, että jos asiakirja allekirjoitetaan, Serbiaa uhkaa Dublin-palautuksina jopa 1,2 miljoonan pakolaisen tulva, tällä kertaa toisesta suunnasta kuin vuonna 2015.

– Olen sanonut sen julkisesti, hänet [pääministeri] pitäisi hirttää Terazijelle [Belgradin keskusaukio], Nogo painotti.

Nogon uhkaus perustuu käsitykseen, jonka mukaan Serbian pääministeri Ana Brnabić on aloittanut menettelyt, joiden tavoitteena on pakolaisten Dublin-palautus maahan. Dublin-sopimuksen perusteella palautettavia pakolaisia saattaa Nogon käsityksen mukaan olla jopa 1,2 miljoonaa.

Oppositiopoliitikko Nogo ei välitä siitä, että hänet saatetaan haastaa oikeuteen tiukan lausunnon vuoksi.

– Kuulkoon Alexander Vucic [presidentti] ja Ana Brnabić tämän: jos hän allekirjoittaa sopimuksen, Ana Brnabić pitäisi välittömästi hirttää Terazijella. Välittömästi, ja Alexander Vucic siihen viereen. Menkööt julkiseksi tämä mitä sanoin, Nogo päätti.
